I really enjoyed this book, I’ve read the previous ones in the series! I like that Meira is getting her story. A great read if you’ve read the series but can also be a standalone. A great read!
Meira wants revenge for her parents murder, so marrying an ally seemed like the right choice. Samael is a solider under King Gorgon of the Black Clan, and pledged his life and loyalty to him. One look at Meira and his heart is hers. After finding out she is to marry his king, he is forced to accept that this woman and potential mate of his, will never be his. That is until she burns the king and he must choose between love and duty.
I loved Meira and Samael's story and the build up to their relationship. I thought it was interesting how one kiss to Gorgon burned him, but not Samael. The concept of the story was interesting and at least held my interest until the end.
The plot was chaotic and felt scattered at times, going in different directions or diverging from the main story. There was also a lack of emotion in this story. These characters should have had a full range of emotions, and it felt like everything was stagnant with no ups or downs in emotional range.
I really came into this with high hopes, maybe that was the problem. I dreamed out so many ways this book could go but I never thought it would turn out this bad. The main characters Sam and Meira, do not even talk to each other for the three months before the story starts even though they are in close proximity. He already suspects that she is his mate and allows her to go along with the wedding to the dragon king he serves.
Why?
Because Meira has chosen the king and even if it's the wrong choice well, its her choice. But when she ends up killing the groom on their wedding night all bets are off and he dedicates himself to pursuing her until she gives in.
There was practically no romance, just straight lust and it just felt wrong like the king never mattered at all even though Sam was forever loyal to him.
The end was even worse because it felt like two strangers were able to hook up. I had no heart for this and am extremely disappointed.
Must admit that I started reading the other books too because I became such a fan of it. I like the way Abigail Owen writes. It's nice and suits the main character. Sounds a bit weird but it really felt as if the main character was actually the author.
Man I love these dragon clans! Samael and Meira are so stubborn that I wanted to smack them a few times throughout this book. This book was full of war and death, broke my heart a couple of times. Thank goodness I've already got the next book, otherwise I'd be going crazy right about now.
MY FAVOURITE OF THE SERIES!!!!
I am literally obsessed with everything Abigail writes but my god this really snuck into my number one spot. Samuel Veles of the black clan has my heart!!! This story follows Meira Amon who is brilliant with technology and feels such an obligation to her sisters that she offers herself up for marriage to the King of the Black Clan.
Samuel Veles is the fiercest warrior of the Black Clan and he has pledged his life to protect his clan and his kingdom, but when he sees Meira he finds is loyalty tested.
The tension, the angst? Oh everything about this book was just incredible!!!! I can't recommend this series enough!
Oh wow! Spicy and sweet at the same time! Definitely going to continue the series and look forward to seeing where this goes!
Finished another Inferno Rising installment and this time around I'm a liiiitle bit disappointed unfortunately.
I really liked this world from the get go in book 1, and how it all expanded throughout book 2. The set up of the story-line and development of everything like among other things the politics, the action, the character developments, combined with some smutty romances throughout all books was overall well done... The set of characters is to die for and I can't get enough of them all.
So I was super duper excited to read this story of Sam and Meira after having loved the first 2 books in the series. But despite how hard the author tried to put down a believable set of MC's and developing romance between them, I just didn't 100% 'feel it'. Up front, I had a feeling that Sam and Meira's romance development could've been the best in the series so far, so I'm really bummed out that it wasn't entirely working for me.
Some small developments here and there related to their romance development also didn't really line up with me, and seeing the romance is quite a big part of the story I just wasn't really able to rate it any higher than 3 stars.
I did enjoy being present in this world again, though. The story development in general keeps being interesting so I'm definitely planning on reading the next book in the series when it comes out.
Even though I wasn't entirely IN LOVE with some things in this book, it was overall a fast paced read and the author's writing style is something I enjoy as well as the fact that I love the dragon(shifter) elements in this series. If you like paranormal romance that has dragon shifters, this series is definitely one I'd suggest picking up. These books are ones that are just easy to lose yourself in and experience an enjoying read.
I was given an e-arc by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for me leaving an honest review.
Wow! I mean you think as a series goes on that the books can’t get better than the one before, but I have to tell you this series just gets better and better. This book is so full on nonstop action. Adrenaline running through you from the very first chapter.
Another Phoenix....Meira is about to make a very clinical decision. One that is necessary in winning this war. But deception changes the fates. Now in a race to save everyone, she must find the missing one.
Samael is sworn to protect. Protect the one his heart and soul desire, but are not aloud to have. Fated to watch in agony as his heart is stripped away. But then the hands change and fate has a new path to follow.
The Red King claims to have mated a Phoenix. Now he is going to take back the clans. But what weaves the deception could be the downfall. Black magic and evil controls the other clans and the evil plan gets closer and closer to fulfillment.
Will the true Phoenix come to pass as prophecy has predicted?
I am so in love with this dragon series. It’s hot and thrilling. They are dangerous and keep readers on the edge of their seats. Each one has more challenges and danger than those before them. An amazing lineup of characters, each strong and worthy of their story.
Overall this book was a fast paced read. It was a roller coaster ride of emotions in every way possible. Danger lurking around every corner. Huge challenges and obstacles to overcome with each chapter. I cannot wait to see what happens next. A truly highly addictive read!
Dragons, hellhounds, and gargoyles oh my…yes, this book has it all, and I loved it so much. Actually, I love and am very addicted to the entire series. I will be re-reading this series over, and over, and over. One of my all time favorites..
The Warrior King is a steamy, intense/suspense filled forbidden romance with dragon politics, epic battles and heart breaking moments. I cannot wait to see what happens next. A truly highly addictive read!
Really good! It took me sometime to get into it but once I did I could wait to see what would happen next. If you like spicy books this is the book for you.
This is the third book in a series. I didn't realize that when I requested it, so there is some back story that was confusing. So, this is definitely a series that you need to read in sequence in order to grasp the over-arching plot. That being said, this was still a fun book and I liked the magic and fantasy elements. The sexual tension between Meira and Sam is good. I don't want to give the plot away, but there are some twists that make their relationship really interesting. There is a bit of a cheese factor with some of the lines that brought the rating down a bit for me. But overall, this is an interesting world with an interesting fantasy system that urban/paranormal fantasy lovers will like.
Another good paranormal romance by Abigail Owen.
Great world building, interesting and fleshed out characters, a gripping plot.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

My Rating: 3.5 stars
Library recommendation: Recommended for public library paranormal romance collections.
Warning: Hereafter, you chance spoilers. I will try never to reveal major plot points, but to review any book, you must reveal some parts of the story.
________________
Number of titles I have read by this author: 4
Love story speed: Medium burn
Relationship dynamics: The Dragon Shifter Captain (H) / The Phoenix Empath (h)
Physical descriptions: Samael: Bronzed skin, black hair and “mercury eyes” (if descriptions of the other black dragons holds true from him, as his eyes aren’t described) ; Meira: Strawberry blonde hair, ice blue eyes that change colour. I wouldn’t call the author’s descriptions of the main characters very vivid.
Sexual content: Some; romantic, on-page and explicit
Triggers: Major supporting character death
Grammar/Editing: My ARC had a fair few typos, omitted words, etc.
Review: Set primarily in an alt reality Europe, this third book in the Inferno Rising series is quite consistent in terms of the world Owen has built across her dragon shifter novels. I also had the opportunity to confirm the accuracy of the technical specs featured in this book with a computer scientist, and he informed me that the information was pretty good, if a little dated.
The main characters in this installment are Meira and Samael. The focus of their relationship is very much based in the concept of self-sacrifice, which I found to be quite heavy-handed on both sides. Meira’s development as a character also depends much on the reader’s knowledge of the previous books, so I wouldn’t jump into this series anywhere but in book 1 (see my review of the first installment here and the second here). Unlike with the main characters in the previous books in this series, I didn’t find anything terribly exceptional about these two or their relationship. Indeed, I found that my focus was on returning series characters and the interesting twists and turns they experienced in this book. I am also more interested in the main characters of the next book, who have intrigued me since I read the first.
Full disclosure: I received a free advance review copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
“We want to know, who the World’s Worst Boyfriend is. Are you dating him? Or is your best friend dating him? Be sure to sign up at the link on our website.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars!
This was such a happy surprise of a book! It got my attention from the cover and when I read the description, I thought “why not?”.
After being stood up for a nap, Saidy has had enough. As much as she cares for her boyfriend, Fletcher, he’s too unreliable. So she enters him in a World’s Worst Boyfriend contest only feeling mildly bad about it. She doesn’t expect to win, of course, but then she does. And then he finds out, but there might be things Saidy doesn’t know and it may change everything about their love.
Wow so this book is definitely everything it advertises and more! I did not see some of these twists coming and I haven’t laughed like this in a while!
So no spoilers as always, but starting with Saidy. She is a hilarious narrator, a penchant for being over dramatic and hilarious. She was incredibly empathetic, sweet, smart, and sassy. A huge part of what made this book so fun!
Fletcher’s narration from the beginning of their relationship was the biggest twist and such a game changer for me! I had no idea what I was getting into but it was awesome! I can’t give anything away, but when this book says it has a dash of adventure to it, believe it.
I also really love Fletcher and Saidy from the beginning, it’s funny how bad Fletcher is, but he’s so charming from the start. They have amazing chemistry and you really want to root for them.
I also love that I’ve never quite read a book like this. Where they just fight and the beginning and spend so much time apart, but not apart. It’s almost like a second chance romance, with less tension. It almost feeling like enemies to lovers with the way these two are with each other. It’s fun and a bit unique.
TL;DR: This is a hilarious sweet romance with a fair amount of kick to it! You’ll laugh, be surprised, and have an amazing time.
I had a bit of a hard time following along with this storyline. It was a bit scattered and while I like a book where you never know what happens next I was just barely understanding what was happening.
There are a whole lot of characters introduced some have meaning and others don’t and it’s hard to remember them all.
These sisters are special and the bond they have is so creative to read about. Their special powers or skills they have inherited are wonderful to read about.
I would have loved to read more dialogue between the characters and less in my head thoughts. That seems to slow down the pace of the book for me.
Overall, great characters and settings.
Phoenixes and Dragon Shifters and Fated Mates = I"m gonna love all over this book.
The world-building in this series is superb and there's just enough steam with the romance to keep it interesting. Get your well-crafted PNR fix here!
A dragon and a phoenix as a mate?
This latest from the Inferno Rising series is actually my first story to read. I find it interesting especially both characters are fiery.
I love the fantasy, adventure and magic involves here. Samael is such a cute name too. I hope the next one will be good too.
Thank you Entagled: Amara and Netgalley for the ARC!
4/5 stars
POV: Meira and Samael
Pacing: quick read
Steam: Instant attraction, slow burn with open door scenes
Tropes: Forbidden love, fated mates
Synopsis:
Meira is a more introverted character that loves computers and used to living in a castle with gargoyles. She offers herself as phoenix queen to help her sisters and their kings ally with the black clan against Pytheios. Samael is a black dragon, close to the black dragon king and unfortunately believes the woman promised his king he's sworn to protect is his true mate. When the black king goes up in flames after the mating ceremony, so does everything else and sends the black clan in turmoil.
Overall:
I really enjoyed the third story in this series! Meira and Samael had such a good slow burn chemistry that had a bit of forbidden love trope. There was instant attraction, but because she was promised to another, they were both trying to suppress that attraction. I enjoyed how they slowly became lovers which doesn't happen a lot with the fated mates trope. The world building itself was well done just like prior works in the series! I loved reading about the gargoyle's castle and their world which we only received glimpses of before. Overall, I really loved this story and the chemistry made it one of my favorites in this world so far!
*Thank you so much to Entangled Amara publishing and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Warrior King is book 3 in a series called Inferno Rising by Abigail Owen. I have never read her before, nor any of the other titles in the series. I became interested in this book because a friend who’s an avid reader like myself gushed about Blood King another book in that series. This book falls in the paranormal, Psy, action and action and adventure romance. The first thing that caught my attention was that the book is written in a third person perspective and that is almost for all the characters encountered. Book 3 tell the tale of Meira Amon, the quiet and shy computer hacker sister out of four Phoenix sisters. We find out from the go that she is an empath who can teleport through mirrors who agrees to mate the black dragon king Gorgon to further solidify them as allies. We get to discover that she also believes in life mates so you the reader want to root to have it all turn out good for her.
Her hero, Samael is a born commoner who rose through the ranks by sheer will, strength, and skill to lead his King's warriors. Throughout the book, we see his respect, love and dedication to King Gorgon as the extension of him that it is and why it makes him such ruthless asset to Gorgon. I haven’t read the other books but Meira is so super sweet that you cringe a bit until more and more of the action and thrills of the book unfolds. I felt that I was missing much because our heroine Meira defers so much to her sisters and follows them almost blindly that I will be getting my hands on book 1 and 2 to understand them and what is the cause of this dynamic. So many characters are found in this book as well that it’s clear that this is a continuation that I personally felt like they should be read in order instead of stand-alone books so far.
Without giving the plot away I will say prepare yourself to go through a myriad of emotions as the couple head to the HEA because they are tested through the entire book from start to finish in not only epic action and adventure situations, but in deep emotions requiring tissues as well. I cannot wait to read the other books and the one that follows this one because loyalty can truly blind some people to the rottenness of others. I need to see what happens with the rotten King cause thus far I need him 6 feet under is what I will give away guys.
