A good story from Abigail Owen. Somehow i missed the first two books in the series, but i will be going back to them. This was Meira and Samael's story. They had sparks, but also a good story. Too many books in this genre forget the story is the reason we read, but not in The Warrior King!

I accidentally read The Warrior King out of order (it's #3) but it didn't really matter. I enjoyed Meira & Samael's story. They were both misfits of sorts. Meira was quiet, smart, and happy to stand in the background behind her sisters who were both more comfortable in the spotlight. Samael was lowborn in his clan but rose to the top of the ranks under a king that never treated him as less than. A perfect match! Of course, they both tried their darnedest to mess things up. ;) I enjoyed how things worked out between the two of them and I reveled in the excitement of dragon politics, intrigue, and battle. Bonus? Gargoyles! LOL I'm starting The Blood King (book #2) now!

This was not anything special. It had some non cannon issues where it did not follow the world parameters set in the first two books. The romance was a little forced. And she forgave him way to easily but other than that it was a quick fun read for the summer

I enjoyed this book more than the last one. It was entertaining, had great characters, a strong plot, it was never dull or slow, and the conflict was engrossing. I liked the surprises along the way; it had high and low emotional tension that kept me turning the pages. Meira and Samael's struggles with duty and fate made for a great story.  They are both torn in two because she has promised herself to Samael's king in order to take down their enemy. Samael is his king's Captain of the Guard and later Beta (second in command) and he knows she is his mate but cannot do anything about it because of his loyalty to his king, who is like a father to him.  When they are stuck together alone trying to figure out who faked the king's death, sparks fly (obviously), and when they find out the king isn't dead, they have to face the consequences. I very much enjoyed their story and look forward to the last sister’s story, I think Airik is going to put up a fight and Angelika has her work cut out for her.

Fun quick read, I also for some reason was just so tickled that Meira's power literally burnt up the king I don't know why but I. cackled.

I would certainly read other books in this series!

One word for THE WARRIOR KING is WOW! Author Abigail Owen can spin a story, twist it, turn it around and give an amazing happily ever after.

The action and drama in this book exceed the others in the series and those were fantastic page-turners.

Another solid Inferno Rising book.
When I requested The Warrior King I didn't realize it was the third installment so I had to binge the first two and I really love that each book gets the perspective of a different sister and her mate. While I rooted for Meira and Sam to accept each other, I didn't fully connect like I did with Kasia and Skylar, who were just kind of there. The whole will they wont they was done beautifully.
I wished that Meira got to use more tech, but seeing her going from a lover to a fighter and become the queen she was meant to be was inspiring. Her ability to spy/travel through mirrors and water proved vital in the war against the Rotten King. Being and empath, she knows to maneuver tricky conversations.
The battle between the dragons had my eyes glued to the pages. Every time a fight breaks out I know it's going to be as epic as the last.

After reading the epilogue I am dying to read the next book from Angelika's POV!!!

Sweet, sexy read, with a great storyline and character build up. I enjoyed the mention of the other factions, the tie in with the Phoenix sisters and just how well the book flowed. Definitely will be on the look out for the next sister.

4.5 Stars

An exciting, action packed read, The Warrior King is the third installment in Inferno Rising. The story is compelling the character dynamic and engaging, and a must read for lovers of this genre. Abigail Owen is fast becoming a auto buy author for me and if you haven’t tried her books you are truly missing out.

Third book of this series and the third phoenix - this should be easy and predictable, right? Wrong! This book was surprising and had me unsure of any happy ending here, but don't worry, we get a solid, rewarding ending with some breadcrumbs to the next book.

Meira and Samael are an unlikely pair. Meira may have surprised Samael (and his dragon) in the mirror when they first "met" but it's been even stranger since then. Meira, in some attempt at helping the entire dragon race, agreed to mate with Samael's king, sealing their alliance. The evil red king has been up to no good and needs to be stopped, but that doesn't make this any easier for anyone involved. That gets even harder when things turn upside-down and they end up on the run.

Through this story we watch the timid Meira somehow become a queen in more ways than one. We also get to watch Samael step up and accept the responsibility that his king and his people lay at his feet. It was good to watch the chaos somehow end up resolved into a step forward (maybe a single step, but still a step) into the final battle we expect. It was sad, but satisfying. I can't wait to see where the story takes us next!

This was a story that I was interested in seeing. I mean, you thought for use that the guy she sees in the mirror will be her mate, but then she pledges herself to someone else not realizing that that person is the guy’s king and mentor. Then as she spends time with her intended, and ultimately spends time with the guy she’s actually drawn to, you can’t help but cringe as she goes through the mating ceremony in front of the entire black clan. I felt so bad for Samael to have to witness this “marriage” when his dragon is literally clawing and screaming inside to be let out and claim what’s his. There’s some other stuff that happens, but I don’t want to ruin the story for you.

I just really liked Meira and Samael as characters. Samael was not a royal born dragon. So to many fellow dragons he would be considered nothing. However, when the king took him under his wing and gave him the chance to bet he commander of the fleet, he’s been able to build up his status and gain the support of his fellow dragons. So, when Samael realizes that his mate is the woman who has pledged herself to his king, he does everything he can to fight the pull her feels for her. He buries it down deep, and does his job. Meira is someone who has always been a bit shy and always complies with those around her. However, throughout this story we see her start to stand her ground and stand up for herself. Plus, we realize that her power is a huge asset in a battle. She knows what her duty is, and even though she is drawn to Samael, she will not back down from the path she has chosen.

Watching these two suffer and battle against their mating pull was rough to witness, but it really showed their true character. I respected both of them for being able to put their duty above their feelings. Not only is this story about them fighting against their feelings, but the high king has something up his sleeve and it seems like every time these characters feel like they’re able to catch their breath, another dragon battle ensues. Which is one of the things that I enjoyed about this story… all the epic battle scenes. There was always something going on to where we got to see these dragon fighters in action. It was highly engaging.

If you’re in the mood for a paranormal romance revolving around dragons, I would pick up this series. I have really enjoyed not only the pairings that have popped up, but the story as a whole. There was never a dull moment during these stories and I really look forward to the next story in the book.

Third book in the series this is a paranormal romance involving phoenixes and dragons. The battle against the evil false red king continues in this instalment. This time we follow the third sister as she marries for duty to the black king but ends up on the run with the fierce low born warrior (whom also is her fated mate but they are both in denial!) The sense of loyalty and duty felt by Samuel to his leader the black King, which makes their mutual love such a slow burn and such angst! It was duty over love for both of them. I loved the gargoyles guardians and the animal companions - especially Vincent Van goat! Overall a very enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own honest thoughts.

This is book three in Owen's Inferno Rising series. I will say that you need to read the first two books in this series before reading this one. Because if you don't you will be totally lost. However, there are so many references to what happened in the previous books. I enjoyed the overall story even though the interspecies mating between dragons and phoenixes kind of boggles the mind. It's a captivating fantasy romance nonetheless. I liked how Meira and Samael overcome the odds and find their HEA. There was enough action to keep me engaged, and the sex scenes were slightly steamy, however I did not fall in love with the characters or the overall story enough to continue with the series.

I wasn’t really hooked by the heroine without being able to understand why. She seems likeable, she’s determined without being stubborn, she doesn’t rush headlong, and she fights for her couple when the hero decides alone what’s best for her (in his narrow mind). However, in spite of the example set by her sisters, she still doesn’t believe in fated mates, and she needs time to accept her feelings of Samael.

The hero never feels good enough for the heroine because of his low birth, but at a push that would be okay if he didn’t do something I really don’t like: decide for the heroine without talking to her. He’s emotionally closed for a long time, even if he desires Meira from the start and knows quite fast she’s his fated mate.

In a series all the volumes can’t be at the same level, and I found this one was the weakest. There are good moments and other less good, and I wasn’t hooked by the couple. I found their story was too lukewarm for too long. The plot progresses, but I didn’t feel like Meira and Samael had a lot to do with that when the previous couples were much more at the center of the action. In spite of that the story goes on nicely, with surprises and of course the very visual battles of dragons I so love.

The next volume will be about the last sister, who’s supposed not to have any power. I can’t wait to know more. See you soon.

*I received this book free from the author.*

Abigail Owen has me completely entranced with her world of Dragon Shifters. The Warrior King is more proof to that fact. It is emotional, suspenseful, and filled with a conflict between sworn duty and desire that will have you loving and hating it at the same time.

“Fight for your people, fight for your king. But I need you to fight for me, too. For us.”

Meira is the third phoenix to find her mate. After seeing her two other sisters mated to dragon kings she intended to do the same in order to get justice for her parents. What she didn’t expect was being drawn not to the king she’d pledged herself to, but to his Viceroy of War. She couldn’t go back on a promise she’d made, but lucky for her their mating ceremony didn’t go to plan.

Samuel had undying loyalty to his king, even at the cost of his own sanity. Every day around Meira drove his dragon insane with longing, but he refused to give into temptation. When he was placed with her safety it made it more difficult to ignore, and yet he still managed…barely. However, the moment he found out he was next in line to be king both Samuel and Meira gave into what they both wanted. Each other.

“Gives a whole new meaning to ‘release the kraken,’ don’t you think?” ~I completely laughed out loud at this part of the book!

Their decision turned out to be premature, which caused an entire set of other problems. There is a fine line between loyalty and betrayal in this book. It all comes down to perspective. In the end, everything works out as fate intended between Meira and Samuel. That being said…the war between all clans has officially started and Pytheios is using every dirty mind trick in the book. Can’t wait to see what comes next.

P.S. Can Rune please have a mate?!?!

This is the third story in the Inferno Rising series and I couldn’t wait to read it! It is another action packed, suspense filled romance in which Meira Amon is the third of the phoenix sisters to mate – eventually!

Two of Meira’s sisters found their true mates but she doesn’t believe in them. She’s the most logical and analytical of the fou

r sisters and proposes to King Gorgon of the Black Dragon Clan as she believes their union will help in the fight against King Pytheios, who is currently High King and who earlier murdered her parents. However, she was astounded when she used her ability to view other locations through their mirrors and was spotted by Samael Veles, the chief warrior of the Black Clan. No one can usually see her unless she actually wants them to. The two don’t acknowledge their attraction to each other but when the mating ceremony results in King Gorgon disappearing and a substituted red dragon turning to ashes, Sam has no choice but to protect her, not only from his clan but also from himself and his dragon!

The robust world building continues in this fantastic addition to this series. The story is aflame with drama, love, suspense and danger. There are new allies to make, new battles to fight and love to be found. It is an enthralling page turner that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and I can’t wait to discover what happens when the fourth sister and her mate finally get together – let’s hope with all four phoenixes with mates they’ll be able to thwart the despotic King Pytheois and overthrow him and his allies! Look out for the kraken references, too – absolutely hilarious!

Thanks to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

I really liked reading Meira and Sam's story. It was also interesting to see one of the quieter and naturally more gentle sisters come into her own voice with her own power (as opposed to Skylar's much louder approach XD) I also loved the fact that I feel like Abigail Owens went into a little more depth into the dragon world and the politics and traditions that govern their communities in this book--this even comes into play in the reasons behind Sam and Meira resisted their mating for so long. Overall a nice continuation of the series! I'm very grateful to the publisher for giving me an advanced copy. 3.5 out of 5 stars!
