Thank you to NetGalley for granting this ARC, super cute and fast read. The illustrations were adorable and the story was cute.
This is cute! A RABID idol fan tries to save her favorite's life and is accidentally transported into his body when God sends them both back to earth. Shenanigans ensue when they continue to switch back and forth into each other's bodies seemingly at random, and very inconvenient times.
Imagine becoming the idol you adore; well, that's what happens in this cute manga. I liked the spin on the gender-swapping genre that is often seen in manga. I am looking forward to the next manga in the series.
This is a classic story of hijinks and misunderstandings! I love the freaky Friday aspect of this book! This is definitely your book if you love celebrity and fan romance with some body switching. Definitely a series to re-read with great art!
Star-Crossed! it's a classic body-switching comedy with opposites as characters. A story about a fangirl -Azusa- who attends to a concert and saves her idol -Chikashi- from dying just to find out that insted of him, now she is dead, but for some reason God allows her to comeback. Of course that this triggers the body-switching part where now Azusa is in the body of her crush and viceversa. It was a fun and light reading, Azusa didn't come across as some wacky fan and the portrayal of the conflict was really fun to read. Since it's a first volume there's still room for more development but overall I enjoyed reading Star-Crossed!
While the premise would totally be my jam on a regular day, the "idol" element put me off a little bit. If I had read this maybe 6 or 7 years ago, I might have enjoyed it more. That being said, if you ARE an active fan of any idol group, this might be your thing.
Absolutely adorable character designs and great action shots that really made me feel emotionally connected to the characters.
The basis plot of the manga seemed fun and refreshing but it was a disappointment for me. I have watched many soul swapping dramas but this book just didn't do any justice to the trope.
The art was ok and I hope the other volumes are fun.
I really enjoyed this manga! It's super cute and funny! It's a cute twist on freaky friday except with idols. I highly recommend for libraries to get if they have teens who like shojo, romcoms and idols.
I don't think I've ever seen this trope before in manga or anime. But I'm here for this Freaky Friday situation.
I was really sure that I would hate this initially, so certain that I almost put this down because I found Azusa just so annoying.
But I am glad that I didn't put it aside because once we get into the plot, Azusa's obsessiveness tones down and becomes a genuinely good piece of humor that I didn't find myself cracking a smile to.
I will definitely be continuing with this manga.
While I enjoy the body switching!au as much as the next (fanfic reading) person, this was a miss for me. An obsessed fan switching bodies with her idol is just too much possible chaos for my liking,
It doesn't usually take me this long to complete reading a book (or as in this case, a 'manga') and/or posting a review of it. But if it does, then of course there's something wrong.
My primary reason for requesting this arc was the author. I have read and watched the anime version of Junko's previous work 'Kiss him, not me' and enjoyed it immensely. I was curious to see what she would do with this one. Although it is a classic body-switch comedy, it is between an idol/singer and his fan. That twist gives it enough of a freshness in my view.
The problem arose when it couldn't held my attention past few pages. So maybe its me and my 2-second attention span. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But I really wanted to love it. In fact, I may ditch a book but it is rare for me to dnf a manga.
I will come back and try it again later.
Azusa is a loyal fan. She loves Chika-kun so much to the point that she dies for him in order to safe his life. However, they both die and after their death they are told that there is a chance of going back to their lives on Earth. However, when they wake up, they find out that their bodies are switched so that each one's soul is in the body of the other. Now, they have to figure out how to live this way until they return normal again.
This was hard for me to read. It was very humiliating. The characters were silly. Everything was just bonkers!!
Trigger warning: There is a bad representation and cursing of God ( this can be very humiliating for a religious person to read.). This was so disrespectful.
I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
It is a good title, about an idol and a crazy fan and how "God" messed up with them ( God : My Bad, My Bad ). They switch their bodies due to some undisclosed triggers and it gets a little funny there.
It was decent for the first volume, and could get a lot better in the coming volumes.
Was very impressed by this series! The art is crisp and the comedic timing is spot on. While bit predictable, the events were so exciting and kept me interested. I am looking forward to the next volume!
This is a lighthearted story about Azusa, an obsessive fan, who magically switches bodies with her favorite boyband member Chika. It is definitely tropey, cheesy, and hella dramatic. Nonetheless, I picked this manga up cause I'm a huge fan of Junko's other works. such as Kiss Him, Not Me and I enjoy their art style. I did find it a tad too heavy on the tropes. Plus the slap stick style comedy didn't really appeal to me as a Western reader.
I really liked this! The art was very cute an sparkly. As for the plot, it was relatively average. However, I was very intrigued by the switch between Chika and the main girl. It was interesting because their lives are so different. I'm sure it's very odd to be in the body of your idol, and vice versa too. Perfect for fans of the 2003 film Freaky Friday, "Star-Crossed" is a fun and lighthearted manga on switching bodies, and learning to adapt to new situations.

I absolutely LOVED this manga volume!!! Star-Crossed!! Volume 1 by Junko is a hilarious and entertaining ride about what happens when a pop idol and his biggest fan switch bodies by accident, and I thought it was great. The girl lead seems a little cray-cray to be honest, but I'm hoping there'll be some growth there and the idol character actually seems pretty down to earth and cool, which is a win. Overall, I am super looking forward to continuing the adventure that is this series.
It was fun and it manages to put a twist on the "we just changed bodies" trope. I also appreciated how it shows the dedication of fans and how well they know idols, they weren't just presented as obsessed crazy people.
It's a light and fun read, and I think that having this animated with music would be amazing.
Spoilers ahead:
However, I did think that Azusa being so popular and perfect in high school was unrealistic and farfetched, probably a device to make it more natural to have them together in high school, so that their classmates would think "of course if he chooses anyone, he'll choose her".
We follow the two main characters, Azusa - a high school student who is crazy for Chikashi - a member of a popular boy idol group. Due to some interesting circumstances they end up switching bodies and the story takes off from there.
Reading this was honestly such a weird, fun and funny experience. The potential for the rest of the volumes with these characters is so exciting and I can’t wait to get to know all the band members more. The potential romance between Chikashi and Azusa seems like it’ll be a really cute slow burn romance, and I am here for it.
The only downside that I had was that I honestly felt like it was too short to really get emotionally attached to anyone. I am so excited by the ending of this volume and the potential for the rest of this series, so I will definitely be picking up the second volume!
