I really enjoyed this book, it was cute and fun while also touching on important topics. I loved the dynamic between Kate and Drake and seeing Drake's family's involvement. Zander and Ryker were by far the funniest and best characters (I would love to see them get their own stories one day)!
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for this review.
This story is about Kate Sweet, a super successful and hyper organized event planner and Drake Matthews, a super famous writer who is know for his horror stories. Kate gets thrown into planning Drake's launch party for his newest book by her BFF and sparks fly.
This book came across just a little too cheesy at some points and a little on the nose for me personally. I wish they would have cut out the entire B plot with Kate, her family, and an award Kate is trying to win in favour of more time spent building up the tension and the romance between her and Drake. I think it would have benefited greatly as the romance sets up the shot but doesn't totally hit it out of the park.
That said, this was a nice light, fluffy book. The characters are unproblematic and easy to like. The disastrous meet-cute between the two at the beginning really checks all the boxes. I would definitely recommend this as a nice easy and overall enjoyable read.
Wow! This was such a slow burn romance! I loved that the male lead Drake was a horror writer. I feel like it made him more interesting. I also loved watching him let go of his past and get the girl. Kate was also a wonderfully clumsy female lead who was so relatable and strong-willed. This book was filled with laughs and love. The smut scenes were minimal and done at just the right moments.
This book was written in the 3rd person which usually hard for me to love as much as a 1st person perspective. But this book broke that for me, I absolutely loved it just as is!
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a cute romance, if you love Halloween then you should also definitely pick this up.
Summary:
Event planner Kate Sweet is famous for creating the perfect happily-ever-after moment for her clients’ dream weddings. So how is it that her best friend has roped her into planning a bestselling horror writer’s book launch extravaganza? But the second Kate meets—or rather, accidentally maims—the drop-dead-hot Drake Matthews, her well-ordered life quickly transforms into an absolute nightmare.
Drake Matthews is tired of the spotlight and tired of his reputation as the Knight of Nightmares. He's a nice guy! But he’s not prepared for Kate, a fearless agent of chaos in steel-tipped stilettos, or for that sweet sting of attraction he feels for her. She’s inspiring him to take his writing in a whole new direction—one that no one expects. Because now Kate and Drake are changing up the rules, and this plot twist might just surprise everyone . . . including themselves.
My Thoughts:
So cute and adorable. That's what I felt when I finished reading this book!
Kate was the epitome of femme fatale- lovely, charming, go-getter, honest and witty. Drake is such a nice guy even though his claim to fame is " knight of nightmares" he is a romantic at heart. This is such an adorable, light-hearted rom-com that also showcases the character's inner fear of failing, trust issues, and being judged. There are also a lot of moments that truly laugh out loud.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Forever/ Grand Central Publishing for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.
This was definitely a super SWEET read! It was quick, fun, and overall entertaining! An impressive debut! I’d definitely pick up more books in this series. Hopefully, we get the brothers’ stories. Way to go Dylan Newton!
Here’s what I loved:
Great characters - Drake and Kate are both professionals thrown together (literally) for a job. I enjoyed getting to know them
Funny moments
Super fun secondary characters
Great storyline
So why the missing star? They way these two meet is a train wreck. It skirted just a smidge past funny once the hits kept coming. The writing was surprisingly good for a debut, but there were a few odd phrasing choices. And the wrap up with “bad guy” just didn’t fit, IMO. Mind you, these are all personal preferences and highly subjective opinions.
At the end of the day, the book is well written and super engaging read. I really enjoyed it and would recommend to readers looking for a sweet romance!
4 solid stars
I love this book! It’s so unlike anything I’ve read before. A horror writer meets a wedding event planner. Not the typical meet cute. But ends up being super SWEET!
Kate is an event planner who loves to make an “Awe” moment is asked by her best friend Imani to help with a book launch for horror author the Knight of Nightmares Drake.
•
This was such an enjoyable read! I really like the characters, Drake is hot and quirky and Kate is beautiful and very driven. Right from the start you could see chemistry that Kate and Drake have. I did wish that there was a couple more steamy moments.
•
I really liked how descriptive Dylan was I could easily picture various scenes which made reading much more enjoyable! I also liked that there wasn’t the typical long period of time there was a misunderstanding that could have been resolved if they had just spoken.
•
I am keeping my fingers crossed there is a series made!
The book started off really well, I was liking it though the book had a narrative style of both the POV's(narrative books don’t work for me much). . I think this is why I couldn’t really feel a lot, and the storyline was dragged. I put this book down quite often. I tried to read a little more but I couldn’t. The plot though was really different, it had a touch of horror

When the Queen of Happily Ever After has to plan an event for the Knight of Nightmares, what could possibly go wrong? Kate is an Event planner with a capital E. She plans big ticket, complex events and specializes in over-the-top weddings. Her best friend is a publicist for massively popular horror author Drake Matthews. Drake's book launch is in need of an event planner to make the event spooktacular - and Kate is just the woman for the job.
Drake and Kate are adorable together - although disaster seems to follow Kate around at an alarming rate for such a successful planner. I would have liked more time together. We get one extended date in the second half of the book - and that is about it. The rest is more descriptive of Kate working or the two of them separately.
Overall - this is a sweet, quick read with some very funny moments.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
How Sweet It Is by Dylan Newton was an adorable story between event planner Kate Sweet and broody author Drake Matthews! Thank you to Forever Publishing for making this full title available as a Read Now on NetGalley!
Kate Sweet typically plans extravagant weddings and is known as the Queen of Happily Ever Afters, while Drake Matthews writes horror novels and is known as the Knight of Nightmares. Kate lands the opportunity of a lifetime to plan his mainstream book launch. This could finally be the event that gets her the attention to win the highly coveted EVPLEX award. Drake stands to gain something from this too, he's fascinated by Kate, and she quickly becomes his muse for a new secret book he's writing...
If you're a fan of romcoms, I recommend you pick this one up when it hits shelves on July 13. Kate and Drake have the most hilarious meet-cute, I'm still laughing about it!
"So, I panicked. I scaled him like a freaking koala on a eucalyptus tree!"
I liked the premise of this book, horror writer who wants to write a love story but facing writers block meets event planner extraordinare who is planning his book release. I thought the pacing was pretty good and the book was light and very PG.
I liked the Drake & his brothers and their back story, but I felt like the getting together part was rushed in terms of everything happening in the span of 3 weeks.
If you are looking for a cute and not overly deep rom com read, this might meet your need.
I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK! It was such a great read and gave me the warm fuzzies that I love to have while reading a romance novel! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down and it was hard not to enjoy. An event planner who is known for her happily ever afters meets a horror author who is known as the "knight of nightmares", and the two are a very interesting but compatible mix! You can't help but fall in love with the characters and want them to both be successful and happy! I loved Kate and Drake, and you definitely will too! If you like any kind of romance with a cute, fun twist, then this is the book for you!! Thank you to @authodylannewton, @readforeverpub and @netgalley for an advanced copy of this book! I am SO glad I got the chance to read it! Looks like I have another favorite author to add to my list!
"HOW SWEET IT IS" By Dylan Newton****
This is a cute story of an EVENT planner and a horror novel author who ended up falling for each other. These two had a meet cute that tops all of those I have read about lol. This book made me laugh it had me at the edge of my seat at one point and it even made me emotional in another point! The author has such a beautiful way of writing that I never got bored of it. It was easy to read and get invested in the story. I am definitely looking forward for more from this author 🥰. I got the privilege of getting an ARC via @netgalley
Great laugh out loud, exhilarating rom-com!
An absolutely sweet event planner Kate as like her last name wants to help her best friend Imani to organize the tempting horror author Drake Matthew’s book launch with bunch of creepy/ exaggerated ideas like author’s appearance in a coffin surrounded by fog bombs resembling reincarnation of Dracula!
But unfortunately their first pitch meeting with the author doesn’t go as it’s planned!
As soon as she sets foot on the entrance of his creepy Victorian mansion rumored filled with ghosts, she finds herself climbing on Drake just like a chimpanzee, giving quiet satisfying view to the neighbors! But her intentions were so innocent. She just wanted to protect for herself from Drake’s giant dog which is actually a puppy but it’s still intimidating enough for her not to climb down from him!
And one thing leads to another catastrophe: poor Kate finds herself under passing out Drake lying on the floor as her best friend Imani accompanied by Evan Everstone who is one of the judge of prestigious EVPLEX awards she’s dying to win as a milestone of her entrepreneurship, enters the living room to find them!
We learn that Evan and Drake have a long time beef related Drake’s soul sucking ex who betrayed his trust! As soon as Drake wakes up he fires trio urgently.
Kate gets panicked and she gathers her wits to form up a plan to win Imani’s client back!
When she returns back to his mansion to apologize, Drake decides to give her a second chance with the pressure of his family. But he also wants her help his last novel research. Actually it seems like win-win situation because meeting with Kate already helped him to fight against his writer block and gave him inspiration he needed so badly.
He plans to do something so risky, keeping it secret from everyone including his family: he’s working on a romance novel and Kate already became his muse.
As two starts spending more time together, they discover some many things about each other including Kate’s entire family put pressure on her to become a doctor like them.
Overall: Kate was lovely, honest, selfless, creative, witty character I truly loved. Also I enjoyed to see Drake’s inner romantic who tries to learn who to create awww moments like Kate.
It’s easy to read, enjoy! The chemistry of the duo was good enough. Some parts are truly funny like romantic appointment at the tomb ruined by bats.
I’m rounding up 3.5 stars to 4 sweet, sassy, laugh out loud, glittery stars!

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. How Sweet It Is, is a very sweet light read and enjoyed the romance of forced proximity between Kate, an event planner and Drake, a horror fiction writer. The two collide when Kate is hired to plan a book launch. Some good laughs and hilarious moments.
Reccomend this book for anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!
This book was a very cute, romantic comedy about an event planner and a horror book author, but unfortunately it wasn’t for me. I was hooked at first with the disastrous meet-cute, but lost interest pretty quickly because of the insta chemistry. I loved the premise and the main characters, but I just had trouble getting into it. However, if you like sweet romantic comedies with a lot of fluff, this is probably the book for you.
This book isn’t a romance that just calls itself a Rom-com, it’s a legit romantic comedy. As in, I laughed (okay, I cackled) a lot!
This debut book was sweet, like the main character Kate Sweet, an event planner known for her magical weddings. Kate is tasked with creating an epic book launch for famous horror writer Drake Matthews, the Knight of Nightmares. In order to get what they both want, these two seemingly different people need to trust each other and work together.
Complete with a trip to the mausoleum, a spandex tin man suit, and an epic meet cute that leaves Drake maimed by a shoe, this book entertains.
I read this in one sitting, and although there was nothing in the plot that surprised me, it was just the escape I needed. I’m looking forward to reading more from Drake Newton, and I already miss the characters and charming setting.
Thank you to @netgalley and Forever Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wonderful, well-written, and sweet! This book had me hooked to the very end. Thanks NetGalley & the publisher for the e-arc.

CW: cheating (past relationship), family tensions
I would recommend this one if you're looking for (SPOILERS)
-m/f friends to lovers
-work place romance
-a hilarious meet cute
-party planning galore
-a lot of fangirling over a famous author
-sloooow burn
This book was adorable and a fun romcom read. I really enjoyed the push and pull between Kate and Drake as they got to know each other. I loved the twist of Drake being an author of horror books and all of the activities that he and Kate went on. Their sexual tension was sweet and slow-burning. A great story of two people learning to trust the other person.
The dark moment was a bit unnecessary and resolved quickly but this was a very low angst enjoyable read.

This book was perfectly sweet with just the right amount of steaminess! It was a delightful story about two charmingly different characters falling in love. I was captured from the beginning, and was not disappointed. I loved the idyllic Upstate New York setting, it was a perfect setting to fall in love. I can not wait to read more by Dylan Newton!
