Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a fun little read. Easy to dive into and follow along. It was different in its perspective and I appreciated that. Overall enjoyable summer read.
I've read and enjoyed the authors previous works and this one was no exception. I loved the small town feel and how everyone felt like they were watching from a distance waiting for something to happen. The twists and turns left me reeling! Highly recommend.
This is a first for me by Megan Miranda. I enjoyed the book, the story line and ultimately how it all came together at the end.
Normally this would be my exact type of suspenseful novel but I must admit it did take me longer to get into than usual. Im glad I pulled through the first half and encouraged myself not to give up on it, as it came around and I ended up satisfied with it in the end.
I think this could make for a great book club book, a lot to discuss within it as the story unfolds.
Hollow's Edge was a beautiful suburban community with lakes, beautiful homes and neighbours who knew each other well and many worked together at the University. But, 14 months ago the community was rocked to it’s core. When Harper was out and about she followed a barking dog and discovered Brandon and Fiona Truett dead, killed by carbon monoxide poisoning. Apparently someone left the car running in the garage, the poisonous gas easily seeping into the house and killing the Truetts. Ruby Fletcher was convicted of the murders, based on outdoor camera footage and testimony of the neighbours. Were they telling the truth? Fourteen months later, Ruby has returned to the scene of the crime, and her conviction has been overturned. Who is really responsible for the Truetts' deaths? Even though she has been released, the neighbours still suspect her and close rank against Ruby and Harper.
It takes a bit for the story to get moving, but it was enjoyable to get to know the characters involved. Throughout most of the story, I was not convinced that Ruby wasn't guilty, which kept me on edge. We all know how social media can exacerbate a situation, or even rile people up, well, the Hollow’s Edge Community website does both. There is back stabbing, innuendo, ignoring people and making comments that would not be made in person, all that caused an undercurrent in the neighbourhood. As the story moves forward and we were still not sure who the murderer is, someone else ends up dead. Harper begins to piece things together and also begins to receive threatening notes. With the slow reveal of secrets, we are led to the unpredictable conclusion that was totally unexpected. This was more of a slow burn mystery than a gripping thriller, but the characters, the red herrings, the secrets, and the lies, all added to my enjoyment of this story. If you enjoy a slow burn of a mystery with some twists and atmosphere, then pick this one up.
Another winner from Megan Miranda!
I had no clue the entire time who to expect - every chapter was a new corner and new information to consider. I loved how much this book kept me on my toes!
The story of a couple who are found dead in their home, in a small private neighbourhood ended up being so much fun. Lots of drama between several characters which I enjoyed too.
Definitely one I recommend!
I absolutely love everything by Megan Miranda. She writes a very captivating story that always keeps me guessing right until the very end and this was no exception!
Always such a joy to read Megan Miranda, and this book was no exception!
It was bit slower paced than I'm used to for her novels, but very enjoyable and thrilling nonetheless. If white picket fences and close-knit communities give you the heebie jeebies, this read won't disappoint.
I really enjoy this author and this story was another win. It was a little slow in the beginning but about a 3rd of the way the story picked up and I flew through it to the end. Loved the ending and how everything was linked together.
This book started off a little slow for me, with a long introduction of characters that was at times confusing. This book was very up and down for me, as I found some parts were very interesting, and others didn't interest me at all. It This is a typical domestic drama, but I feel like it didn't pack as much of a punch for me as Miranda's books usually do.
Fourteen months have passed, and no one has forgotten the murders of Brandon and Fiona Truett in Hollow's Edge. Their once idyllic neighbourhood was shook, especially when one of their own was found guilty.
This devastating crime created a wound in their community, and just as the scab is starting to form the decision gets overturned. The boogeyman has been released and is heading home.
Ruby Fletcher has always maintained her innocence. Stubborn and willful, she has nowhere else to go but to the house she lived in before her conviction, with the woman she considers an older sister.
The moment she steps through Harper's door the rumours in Hollow's Edge start to spread. Nobody wants anything to do with Ruby and Harper by extension. Why would Ruby return to the possible scene of her crimes, unless she thinks she knows who's responsible.
This was a genuine page-turning potboiler of a thriller, with finger pointing and misleading evidence aplenty. I had a blast trying to figure out what really happened to the Truett's.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for this review copy.
Megan Miranda might be the best at slow burn drama in isolated living arrangements. Very niche but sometimes it does the trick. I really liked the plot of this one, suspected murderer returns to the community she was accused of murdering a member in and how people treat her after. I like the viewpoint of what happens in between being accused and conviction and what that might look like for some. Lots going on though I wish there was a few chapters early in the book that explained why they thought she might be guilty to set up her return a little better.
I found this one really interesting. The story flowed well and kept my attention. I really enjoyed the writing style and the twists and turns. I’ll definitely be continuing to following this author to see what other ones they have written! I would recommend this one to a friend.
I started this book 📕 but couldn’t get into reading it at this time. Maybe I will try reading it in a few months and other books she has written have like the last house guest was a book a I couldn’t put down , Sorry Miranda 🙂
Miranda does it again!! This author is quickly becoming one of my favourites and I absolutely adored this novel!
Gripping, tangible, and absolutely unputdownable!!
I absolutely loved this one! I was immediately drawn in to this thriller and held strong right to the very end. My wandering brain didn't even stroll away once from this book. My curiosity was piqued right from the very start and thought the neighbourhood mystery was fabulous. This is exactly what I needed a fast paced, plot-driven thriller with a writing style that I found riveting.
Thank you so much to Simon & Schuster Canada, NetGalley and Megan Miranda for the opportunity to read the e-ARC.
A quiet, friendly neighborhood. A place full of friendly gatherings, where neighbors look out for one another. And then a murder happens.
But what if the convicted murderer has her conviction overturned. And what if she moves back into the neighborhood?
This was a great read! I would have liked to know a little more about the different characters, but overall I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.
I gave this book 3⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
This was a great summer read, I read it while travelling on vacation and it kept my attention. The storyline was full of suspense regarding this sketchy group of neighbours who are far too interested in what one another is up to.
When Ruby returns to the neighbourhood of Hollows Edge after being released from prison, the neighbours cannot believe that she has come back., Harper most of all is shocked when Ruby shows up with her bags intent on picking up right where their roommate relationship left off. The neighbours all believe her guilty, even though she got out on a technicality.
As we see Ruby’s interactions with the neighbours, Harper believes she knows by she is back, revenge. The action leads up to a neighbourhood party when one of the guests ends up dead.
The ending was well written and I really liked this book.
Will definitely check out more books by this author.
I received a free copy of this book.
This was my third book by Ms. Miranda and it’s, unfortunately, my least favourite to date.
For one, the supposed closeness of the neighbours, the arrival of the prodigal lass who was, said she, wrongfully sent to jail and the main character who seemed a bit stupid at time even though she’s an educated woman.
In my opinion, many things were a bit too far-fetched like someone not changing the lock after some traumatic event like what appears to be a murder next door and not locking one’s door when home even during the day.
My first read by Ms. Miranda was All the Missing Girls and it sucked in as did The Perfect Stranger but this one didn’t.
Nonetheless, it was a good story and it was worth reading it.
Thank you so much for the review copy of Such A Quiet Place! Megan Miranda is a well loved author in the thriller genre and I am always interested in her releases. Unfortunately, her books always seem to fall a bit flat for me. I'm always wanting just a bit more, but can't really put my finger on it. I like this author's writing style and feel like she is great for people just dipping their toes into thrillers. Maybe I've just read too many dark books haha!
I received this book as an arc through NetGalley. I did not like this book. I found it really hard to get into. The first half of the book was repetitive and it dragged in some of the spots. I did enjoy the second half of the book and how the story ended. There are some moral parts that I would get from this book, such as we are always being watched. I could see this happening in any neighbourhood.
