What another great book by Megan! I loved it! I was hanging on by a thread until the very end! The "who did it" vibe was perfect and she sure had me fooled!
Such A Quiet Place by Megan Miranda did not disappoint! The book has sort of a Big Little Lies Vibe, but not so much that it feels like you’ve read it before... Ruby has just been released from prison after winning an appeal and heads back to the scene of her crime.... Hollow’s Edge. The neighbors in the Hollow Edge community don’t know what to make of her return. Nobody knows why she’s there or how long she’s planning to stay, not even her former roommate, Harper. One thing’s for sure tho, everyone is on edge and secrets and mysteries abound!
I was truly surprised by the way this played out. I kept thinking I had it figured out and then had to rethink everything I thought! Great read!
When you try to quiet your mind grab a good book and snuggle down. #suchaquietplace #meganmiranda did NOT disappoint. Whoa. This is my first by this author but definitely not my last. When someone in the neighborhood does of mysterious circumstances and then your roommate, fellow neighbor is arrested. How are you supposed to feel? What if she just walks back in like nothing happened? Released from her prison sentence? The events that follow next will blow your mind. #netgalley #simonandschuster #reesewitherspoonbookclub #bookstagram #readersofinstagram
Hollow’s Edge used to be a tight-knit community, until the death of two of its residents changed everything. When Ruby Fletcher, the young woman convicted of their murder, was later found to be innocent of the crime, will truth be brought with her return?
Having read other books by author Megan Miranda, I was excited when I settled in to read this latest novel. Unfortunately, I was not ultimately enamored with the story or its charaSlcters. The pacing was slow and the premise itself flawed. The reader must suspend belief that the police would not look past circumstantial evidence to see the truth that was right in front of them. The biggest problem with the book was that it started after the crime and readers were not given a reason why the residents turned on Ruby. Not knowing her history, except for small bits and pieces, did the book a real disservice. For these reasons, I would be hesitant to recommend Such a Quiet Place to other readers.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of Such a Quiet Place by NetGalley and the publisher, Simon & Schuster. The decision to review this novel was entirely my own.
Small towns, and particularly close-knit neighborhoods, can be so creepy. Hollow's Edge isn't even a gated community but the secrets and lies abound in this small neighborhood where the residents don't just live near one another but many of them also work at the local college. As Harper notes that it is almost an extension of campus - a dormitory for adults. I felt the cliquish behavior and shifting loyalties felt more like high school.
A tragic death and one of their own was convicted, uncovers the double lives they are living. The one where they are chummy friends, throwing parties together and helping one another out - just like family. And the other, darker, life lived behind closed doors. And the realization everyone is watching everyone else so that their own secrets stay safe.
They had settled into a new normal - on the surface, the neighborhood seemed to be healing, but the suspicion that they could turn on you ripples beneath the surface. And then Ruby is released from prison, her conviction overturned. New evidence has come to light that the investigation was tainted from the start. She could have gone anywhere but she has spent fourteen months thinking of nothing else but what really happened so she returns to the neighborhood, to the house she shared with Harper.
If the residents were on edge before her return, Ruby's presence sends them over the edge. If it wasn't her, then who was it?
Every character has secrets and I was constantly questioning who was telling the truth and who was lying. What secrets were they hiding, who were they protecting, did Ruby really do it? These questions had me riveted to the story.
While my neighborhood isn't as chummy as these residents are, it very well could have been my neighborhood. The story felt so realistic. And while we all hope that truth will come out in the end, we know that sometimes an investigation fixates on one person the suddenly all the evidence points to their guilt. And because some of the characters didn't tell the whole truth for fear of their own secrets being discovered, the evidence pointed more directly to one person.
Such a Quiet Place is one of the best books I've read this summer. I'm pretty sure it will be in the top 10 best books I read this year. If you want a book you can't put down, then this is the book for you.
My review will be published at Girl Who Reads on July 29 - https://www.girl-who-reads.com/2021/07/3-summer-books-and-yummy-summer-dessert.html
Okay, I love any kind of book in which it feels like something happens in a small area. Trapped in a house, on an island, and in this case, a very close-knit neighborhood. It always feels like people can't leave (even if they can) and that everyone is in danger if they can't figure out how to get out.
This is the type of slow burn book that builds up suspense in a way that you're sitting on the edge of your seat biting your fingernails. Of course, this may not be for everyone - it has a slow start that may be hard for some readers. But once the momentum picks up, you're in for a wild ride.
Did Ruby kill her neighbors? Did she get off on a technicality? Or did something else happen that evening, another killer who framed Ruby and is now out for more blood?
And just when the tension can be cut with a knife... someone else dies. And soon, it feels like you can't trust anyone.
What happens next will shock you.
After being convicted of murder then released after the charges were dropped, Ruby has returned to Hollow’s Edge, leaving everyone in the neighborhood literally on edge. Not only did she return to hollow’s edge, but she’s decided to return to her former roommate, Harper’s house specifically. Now, Harper is housing a potential neighborhood threat, while hiding secrets of her own. It seems every person in Hollow’s Edge is hiding something and Harper suddenly begins to question if Ruby was the actual murderer or if someone else in this quiet neighborhood is to blame.
I like this slow burn of a thriller. The characters of this quiet neighborhood. I was surprised by the ending I enjoyed the way the author told this story. The big 4th of July party is where everything gets really interesting and from there, there are twists after twists.
I would recommend this book to people who like thrillers. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher for an honest review.
This book was provided to me from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I would give this a solid 3.5 stars. It’s very hard to give a review for a thriller without giving any spoilers away. I will say I really enjoyed this boom. I read it while being sick and it kept me entertained and turning the pages all day. It was full of clues, mystery and you trust no one. I had suspicions but I was never really sure and I love that in a book! I do wish the ending was a little stronger, but overall a good solid thriller that will keep you turning the pages to get to find out who done it!
It took me awhile to get into Such a Quiet Place. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was going to keep me fully engaged. I’m so glad I continued reading as I ended up becoming very intrigued with where the author was taking the story line. My advice to anyone reading this book….don’t give up, keep on reading!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
Unfortunately I did not get a chance to read this book before it archived. That said, I have heard wonderful things and look forward to reading it soon!
I fell in love with Megan Miranda's writing way back in 2012 when Fracture came out. Miranda has a way of pulling you right into a book with her heartpounding stories. Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me.
This is a slow burn mystery, and not quite what I was expecting. This one was definitely a pacing thing for me. The story itself wasn't bad, but it seemed to take forever to get to "the good stuff". It took at least half the book for me to even care about what was happening. I know the first half was a lot of setup and backstory, but I just couldn't get into it. By the time it picked up, I was already half out the door on this title.
I honestly didn't care about Ruby or Harper at all.... The synopsis makes this big deal about Ruby "coming back", but that was so uneventful. I was expecting so much more. I felt like all the side characters (neighbors) were more interesting. There were a lot of things that were left undone that could have been left completely out. There seemed like a lot of filler that just went nowhere, that along with the slow burn is what killed this one for me.
Thank you to Simon and Schuster and Netgalley for a copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.
Special thanks to @netgalley and @simonandschuster for the ARC in exchange for an open and honest review!
Such a Quiet Place by Megan Miranda
Genre: Thriller

Review: Unfortunately, this was a miss for me. I finished the book because I was holding out hope to add half a star for a good twist at the end, but that twist never really came. It was slow building and the drama/secrets seemed kind of lame. I def wanted to like this one more.
My Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️/5 I would have bumped it up to a 3.5 rating if the twist at the end was better. I just think it fell flat for me! Let me know what you thought of this one in the comments and if you are interested in trying it out yourself, Such a Quiet Place is out now!
Hollow’s Edge used to be the perfect neighborhood, a quiet serene little paradise with a tight-knit community and where nothing bad ever happened. That is, until two of its residents, Brandon and Fiona Truett, were murdered, and a third resident, Ruby Fletcher, was convicted of their murders and sent to prison. The loss of their neighbors is painful for most of the residents, as is living with the guilt that many of them testified against Ruby and sent her to prison. With the shadow of those murders and the still-empty Truett house hanging over it, Hollow’s Edge has become a place no one wants to live. Tanking home values, however, have made it nearly impossible to sell their homes, so the residents are trapped. Being stuck in Hollow’s Edge is bad enough, but it takes an even worse turn when Ruby gets out of jail and returns to the neighborhood after her conviction is overturned. Why has she come back? Is she truly just looking to start over or does she have revenge on her mind?
That’s the basic premise of Megan Miranda’s latest thriller, Such a Quiet Place, and it’s a riveting one. I was glued to the pages from start to finish, trying to figure out what exactly Ruby’s motivation was for returning to the scene of the crime. She has maintained her innocence throughout so it seems odd for her to return to the place where so many people betrayed her. The story is a bit of a slow burn in terms of the suspense and the mystery, a little too slow for my liking at times, but I really enjoyed watching all of the paranoid neighbors trying to figure out what Ruby was up to and if she was out to get them. Not only that but it starts to become clear that Hollow’s Edge was never really the idyllic setting its residents made it out to be. Seems like everyone has at least a secret or two that they’re trying desperately to keep buried.
Ruby’s interactions with her former roommate, Harper Nash, were especially fascinating to me. When she returns to the neighborhood, Ruby shows up on Harper’s doorstep as if she expects to pick up where they left off before the murders. She tells Harper she has nowhere to go and Harper feels sorry for her and lets her move back in. Ruby practically takes over the place, eating Harper’s food, wearing her clothes, borrowing her car without asking, etc. It’s almost like she’s trying to push Harper as far as she can push her, even as she professes gratitude to Harper for letting her stay there. Harper starts to become as paranoid as the rest of the neighbors in thinking that Ruby is just biding her time before she makes someone pay for ruining her life.
I don’t want to give anything away about Ruby’s true motives, but I’ll just say that the story has plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and it really gets wild starting with the neighborhood’s big Fourth of July bash. If you enjoy a slow burn mystery, with lots of secrets, lies and drama, you’ll have fun reading Such a Quiet Place.
Megan Miranda does it again, delivering another tense thriller. In Such a Quiet Place, Miranda delves into the culture of mob rule. In this instance, the "mob" is an insular community of academics and administrative personnel who live across a lake from the college where they are all employed. The town is called Hollow's Edge, and a little over a year ago, resident Ruby Fletcher was convicted of murdering a couple by means of carbon dioxide poisoning. The case against Ruby was put together with the aid of Hollow's Edge residents who all contributed footage from their home webcams and Ring doorbells to place Ruby in the vicinity of the murders. Most of the residents even testified against Ruby, being united in the stories by one resident, Chase, who happens to be with the police. There were things that might have exonerated Ruby, but Chase convinced the residents of Hollow's Edge to 'keep things simple' by sticking to a single narrative. Luckily for Ruby, Chase's actions became known, and the verdict was overturned as the investigation was deemed to be unfair.
Now Ruby is back in Hollow's Edge, and she wants revenge. One day after being released, Ruby shows up at the home of Harper Nash, with whom she had been living prior to the trial. The neighborhood, of course, is incensed, and the community message board is on fire. Harper had been the only one to testify on behalf of Ruby, but still, no one, including Harper, ever thought she'd come back to Hollow's Edge, and everyone is nervous. It's soon obvious that not everyone told the whole truth about the night of the murders, and soon certain residents, including Harper, begin receiving threatening notes slipped beneath their doors. Harper becomes determined to learn the truth about the murders and to learn whether or not Ruby was really guilty.
Miranda is a terrific writer, and she does a great job of developing her characters. My one issue with Such a Quiet Place was that there were just too many characters, and it was hard to differentiate one from another. Nonetheless, I had fun working with Harper to dig into the neighbors' stories and discover whether Ruby was a killer or whether another neighbor had been hiding in plain sight.
Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for providing me an eGalley in exchange for an honest review. Such a Quiet Place was a fun ride.
**4.5-stars**
The private neighborhood of Hollow's Edge has always been a desirable place to live. It's close to the local private college and a lot of the residents actually work there together. Because of that, and many other reasons, Hollow's Edge offers that bougie upper-class feel that many people seek. It's a solace from the outside world of sorts for the people who live there.
That is until the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett. A murder for which one of their own, Ruby Fletcher, was sent to prison. But Ruby wasn't really one of them, was she? She didn't own a house in Hollow's Edge. She was just staying there with Harper Nash after Harper's fiance moved out. Ruby was younger than everyone else, not as settled. She was known to raise a few eyebrows from time to time.
Now a year and half has passed since the Truett's tragic deaths. Ruby has been released from prison on a technicality and guess where she ends up? Right back in Harper's house. Harper is horrified. There is a possible murderer living under her roof. A murderer who is most likely quite peeved that her friend's testimony may have helped put her away in the first place.
It doesn't take long for rumors and suspicions to begin circling around Hollow's Edge, sowing seeds of contention amongst the remaining residents. It's clear to Harper that Ruby is up to something, although she's not sure what. She knows Ruby is hiding things from her; the scariest of which may be her intentions. Is Ruby seeking revenge, or something else?
Such a Quiet Place is pure entertainment. It kicks off very quickly and the suspense really never lets up. I though Miranda did a great job building the tension over the course of the story. I was completely enthralled by it the entire time; wanting to know the truth about the Truetts and Ruby Fletcher.
For me, this is a super solid Domestic Thriller. It had red herrings, twists, reveals, unlikable, judgemental characters and a steady, nail-biting pace. I love stories set in insulated neighborhoods. Stories that portray the often dramatic interactions between neighbors and friends. It's amazing the sort of secrets that can be found in such places.
I was really looking forward to this title and I had a ton of fun reading it. Completely engaging, beginning to end. Thank you so much to the publisher, Simon & Schuster, for providing me with a copy of this to read and review. I can't wait to see what twisted things Megan Miranda comes up with next!!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
Megan Miranda’s Such A Quiet Place is a satisfying, quick read of a neighborhood harboring secrets and the death of two residents. With enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, there is a clear answer to whodunnit by the final scenes. That said, it is a good break from the popular “too good to be true marriage” suspense thriller.
If you enjoyed any of Miranda’s other novels, you’ll like this one.
This was an amazing thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat! Once again, Megan Miranda had me suspicious of everyone!
A definite must read for any thriller fan.
Such a Quiet Place is a wonderful whodunnit. Small towns seem to hold the most interesting secrets, and that's no different here. Years after being accused of a double murder, Ruby is released and heads right back to the town that convicted her. Now she's determined to find out the truth, while everyone else is determined that she did it. At times the book felt very slow to me, but ultimately it was worth it. Full of twists-and-turns, you definitely will not be bored.
4/5 Stars

The perfect read for a summer evening!
Harper Nash lives in a quiet lakeside neighborhood, but the close-knit community is shaken when two of their neighbors are murdered and Harper’s roommate is convicted of the crime. Now, 14 months later, Ruby Fletcher has been released from jail when her conviction was overturned based on new evidence. Ruby returns to Hollow’s Edge and moves back in with Harper, who is unsure about Ruby’s motives, or her innocence. Ruby’s homecoming soon has the neighborhood spiraling out of control as distrust builds and everyone wonders if things aren’t really as they seem.
This novel started a little slowly for me, but the second part of it was SO suspenseful—I had trouble putting it down! I enjoyed how it kept me guessing and suspecting new people with twist after twist as Harper discovers new information. I have enjoyed all of Megan Miranda’s other books, but I think this one is my favorite yet!
**Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for providing me with an ARC to review!
Hollow’s Edge is such a quiet place. Or it used to be. Until Ruby was sentenced to 20 years for the murder of her neighbors, the Truetts. Set free on a technicality after serving 14 months, she appears on Harper’s doorstep, her old roommate. Most of her neighbors thought she was guilty and testified against her. All except Harper, who isn’t so sure.
Ruby’s appearance in the neighborhood has everyone abuzz on the community chat board. Is she back for revenge against those who testified or is she willing to let bygones be bygones? Everyone is on edge.
The first half is atmospheric, setting the perfect tone for the small-town feel of the neighborhood with the gossip and speculation in the chats, which opens each chapter. I thought this was a fun aspect of the story. No one is particularly likable and no one was trustworthy. I had fun speculating who was the guilty party, and was happy to find out I was wrong.
Some readers find the beginning slow but I enjoy a character-driven mystery where the mood is set and the tension slowly builds. The tension ramps up after the 4th of July neighborhood party when a neighbor turns up dead. Kudos to the author for surprising me with the final reveal. This was my first Megan Miranda novel, and it won’t be my last.
