Megan Miranda is up to her old tricks and by that I mean delivering one of the best thrillers of the year. In her own unique take on the locked room mystery, Miranda sets this novel in the exclusive and idyllic neighborhood of Hollow’s Edge. To the eye this looks like the perfect place to live but there are secrets and tensions seething beneath the surface- some of them deadly.
A year ago Ruby killed her neighbors and now after being released from prison on a technicality she is back in Hollow’s Edge. Why is she there? As her neighbors wrestle with the fears and questions brought about by Ruby’s return, there is a powder keg about to be ignited in this small idyllic community. What long buried secrets is Ruby’s return about to reveal?
Miranda is the master of characterization. She takes her time in the first half of the novel allowing the reader to get to really know the inhabitants of this enclave. This allows the suspense to build in an organic manner and when the secrets begin to be revealed the reader is hugely invested. I love that Miranda takes a neighborhood and turns it into a locked room mystery- the modern day equivalent of the country manors of Agatha Christie’s whodunits. What a completely brilliant idea! This also imparts a sense of claustrophobia and paranoia to the novel that I found very effective. If you are looking for the perfect summer thriller, this is it !!!
Thank you to @netgalley and @simonandschuster for this advance copy in exchange for an honest and fair review
Thank you so much to @netgalley for a copy to read and review. I love Megan Miranda books!
14 months ago Ruby was convicted of killing fellow Hollow’s Edge residents Brandon and Fiona. Now her conviction has been overturned and she is back in town living with Harper, much to Harper’s dismay. Harper had always been there to help Ruby but at the trial she didn’t know what to believe. Soon Harper starts receiving threatening notes, is it time for her to do her own investigating!
Honestly this book didn’t live up to the others I have read. The first half moved a little slow and I didn’t love the mystery part of it. I still enjoyed it and got through it fairly quickly. Overall it was good just not as good as her other books.

Recommended to readers who like a good whodunit where EVERYONE has a motive and opportunity,
Sipping thoughts: I love a book that has a cast of characters that are not too hard to follow behind, each have a decent background to understand them and they ALL are suspects in a murder or crime. This is what Such a Quiet Place gave me. I don’t think any of the neighbors in this book were likable at all which added to the layer of mystery and intrigue. I loved how Miranda tied up the storyline and the reveal of who actually committed the crime. This story brings up the question-what happens when everyone has evidence to a crime but not everyone is willing to be honest and forthcoming!
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @SimonAndSchuster and @meganlmiranda for an advanced copy of @SuchAQuietPlace

thank you net galley and simon & schuster for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. such a quiet place kept me on my toes. all the plot twists were so unpredictable for me personally. the characters were phenomenal. some of the characters were meant to be unlikeable and they achieved just that. the premise to this book was just so interesting. such a quiet place kept me guessing. i will definitely be reading more from megan miranda.
Thanks NetGalley for my first Megan Miranda read but definitely not my last!
Wow! This book totally had me hooked! It also made my very glad I don’t live in a neighborhood! Such a Quiet Place begins with the return of Ruby Fletcher, fresh out of prison. She’s come back to her roommate, Harper Nash’s, home even though she’s not quite welcome. Ruby had come into Harpers life right when her fiancé left her. Ruby was convicted of killing their next door neighbors- Brandon and Fiona Truett but then released 14 months later. This tight nit neighborhood is not happy she’s back. They all seem to watch each other’s every move while putting on a friendly face. Harper isn’t quite sure Ruby was guilty. And Ruby seems to have an underlying motive for being back. Why else would she return to the scene of the crime & to a neighborhood of people who think she’s guilty?
The beginning of this story had a slow build but I knew I was gathering as much info as I could to try and figure out what happened. Everyone seems suspicious to the reader. What really happened in Hollows Edge? How could Ruby be falsely convicted if every move is noticed on this street? Who is sending some neighbors creepy notes? Who can be trusted?
I couldn’t get to the ending fast enough to find out who was hiding what and why. Although so many neighbors, maybe even our narrator Harper, are hiding things. I loved the fire under Harper as she made it her mission to find out all that really happened. She was very relatable which made her a great main character. I kept finding myself wondering if I would do the same as her.
I really enjoyed this thriller! I can’t believe I’ve never read one of Miranda’s books before! 4.5 stars!
Thank you Simon & Schuster and Netgalley for an e-ARC of Such a Quiet Place! This book was a highly anticipated summer release for me and I could not wait to get my hands on it! Such a Quiet Place was a slow burn neighborhood thriller. I enjoyed this new book by Megan Miranda and am looking forward to more. I was able to guess the "twist" pretty early on but still enjoyed reading this one to see if I was correct. Looking forward to more by Miranda!
Hollows Edge is a lovely lake side community with tight knit neighbors all looking out for one another. Or are they?
"Truth by mob, death by fiction."
The neighborhood is shaken with the death of Brandon and Fiona Truett. Even more shaken when it appears that Ruby Fletcher is responsible. After serving 14 months of her sentence she is released on a technicality.
Ruby decides upon her release that she's going to return to Hollows Edge to right some wrongs. More specifically she returns to Harper Nash, her roommate, before her arrest. Harper is shocked to see her standing in her home but what is she supposed to do? She feels at least she can keep an eye on her this way.
The rest of the neighborhood isn't happy with Ruby's reappearance. Some of them may even be down right frightened. Who actually killed the Truetts? You'll have to read this to find out.
This book is a slow burn with a good size cast of characters that took me awhile to warm to. I had trouble keeping up with which neighbor was which but eventually I was able to figure out who all the players were. While this was slow it was compelling and intriguing. Ruby and her brashness definitely kept me on my toes and I very much wanted to find out what happened to the Truetts and who was actually to blame.
Then the reveal is made and all I could think was "All of THIS because of THAT?" The ending was so lackluster. I'd love to rant on this one more but it will spoil everything for future readers. Just know this....I didn't buy it!
So, I liked this for the most part but the ending did have me drop a star! 3 stars!
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for my copy.
This book left me skeptical and disappointed. The ending didn’t seem plausible, as if the police and investigative team didn’t do their job properly. Even the main character was frustrating for me at times. I won’t give up on reading Megan Miranda’s books, but I hope her others are better than this.
Megan Miranda is one of my favorite mystery-thriller authors. She has a way with building atmosphere, and a slow, delicious pace to her stories.
Such a Quiet Place was a fast, thrilling read that posed several ethical questions about who decides how the truth (or lack thereof) comes to light, who decides justice, and who gets to be judge and jury. Questions about neighbors and secrets.
This was a great read, and I really enjoyed the entire story. My only qualm was my confusion about the last chapter. There wasn't a neat wrap-up with all questions answered, and I'm okay with that. I can't wait to read Megan Miranda's next thrilling adventure.
First of all, thanks to @simonbooks and NetGalley for this e-galley! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It was fast paced, loved the character development and how the story ended up being resolved. I literally did not see it being resolved as it did. Loved this book!! Great summer thriller to binge! #SuchAQuietPlace #MeganMiranda
What a good story! 4.5 stars. This author is new to me so I had no expectations going into it, but will definitely look up her other books now.
Where we choose to live can determine an awful lot about how our lives are lived. This neighborhood, so quiet in appearance, hides the fact that many are living in fear. One couple died, one neighbor was convicted of murdering them. Now that the conviction has been thrown out on a technicality that neighbor is back and the fear has ratcheted back up to fever level. The doorbell and over door cameras are back to recording and so are the neighborhood watch patrols.
The now ex-con is not the most likable and seems to enjoy provoking people, but why come back to the people who helped convict you? Why is there so much secrecy from each other? Who can be trusted and who is not?
The characters were all real possibilities for trusting and for having ulterior motives so what is a person to do? Maybe searching hard for answers will settle it or maybe it will get you killed.
Great reading. Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest opinion.
Although I felt this book, Such a Quiet Place, got off to a slow start, it made up for it with the turn of each page as the story developed! This book was a true page turner for me, and I found it difficult to put down.
The neighborhood of Hollow’s Edge and the personalities of each resident were well developed by author, Megan Miranda. It was easy to picture how the plot unfolded as it did. I was thoroughly intrigued.
This is my first read by author, Megan Miranda, but will not be my last!
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the ARC in return for my honest review. All the thoughts above are my own.

A bit disappointed with this one. So much potential with this plot but the execution was terrible. This wasn’t a suspenseful book AT ALL. In fact I was bored most of the time. It had some decent parts so I’d still give it a 3/5 but I wasn’t blown away whatsoever. And the ending..seriously?! so lame.
ALL THE MISSING GIRLS will forever be her best novel and I’m convinced nothing else she writes will ever top it.
Thank you @netgalley for the ARC
“If you see something, say something” is a dangerous phrase. On the one hand, we need to watch out for each other. There are plenty of stories that serve as evidence that a sharp eye and willingness to speak up have saved lives. On the other, sometimes we speak up when we’re not sure we’ve actually seen something. This dilemma lies at the heart of Such a Quiet Place, by Megan Miranda. This book takes place in a small community that, a year before the book opens, was the scene of the surprising death of two long-time residents. There was enough evidence to convict one of their own of the deaths. Now, a year later, the conviction has been overturned and everyone is very uncomfortable that the person they all firmly believe is a murderer has returned.
Harper, one of the residents of Hollow’s Edge and one of several who testified at Ruby’s trial, spends the entirety of this novel twisted in anxious knots. She’s always wondered if she was right to speak up at Ruby’s trial, even if she didn’t say anything particularly damning. Her anxiety isn’t helped when Ruby sneaks up on Harper in her own home. (Ruby was her former roommate, until her arrest and conviction.) We quickly learn that Ruby is a mercurial person. I’m not sure if her personality rubbed people the wrong way before the deaths of the Truetts. Ruby certainly does now that she’s come back, especially since she’s determined to prove that she’s innocent and wreak some kind of revenge on the people who sent her to prison.
Throughout the novel, Harper and the other residents confer about what they will and won’t say. Everyone—except doubtful Harper—wants to stick to the story they all agreed on. With Ruby back and doing her own investigating, Harper decides to start asking questions, too. She also thinks back on the night the Truetts died and starts to wonder if she really saw what everyone thinks they saw. What about the fact that the cop who lives in their neighborhood is now facing scrutiny at work for railroading Ruby? What about all the others in Hollow’s Edge who clam up when Harper tries to ask deeper questions? And what about Ruby herself? Did she through up enough red flags with her behavior and criticism of others that she might really be a murderer? And if it wasn’t Ruby, who killed the Truetts?
In addition to asking questions about the balance between being too suspicious and watching out for each other, Such a Quiet Place also makes us take a good look at the lengths some people are willing to go to in order to preserve appearances. Before the Truetts and Ruby and the trial, Hollow’s Edge was an exclusive community. The residents created their own unofficial homeowner’s association to make sure that everything stayed respectable—or at least protected each other’s secrets enough to avoid scandals. I could easily imagine the residents of Hollow’s Edge, four hundred years earlier, taking justice into their own hands. Ruby is just the kind of person who would’ve been accused of witchcraft, too.) Although we don’t light torches and swing pitchforks anymore, Such a Quiet Place makes us wonder if we’re really all that different from our ancestors.
So how well do you really know your neighbors? Harper’s next door neighbors were killed 14 months ago and her roommate Ruby was put in jail for the murders. Now Ruby is out on a technicality and is living in Harper’s house again. Ruby claims she is innocent and someone is going to pay.
I love Megan Miranda’s previous books and this one is no exception. You are thrust into this exclusive neighborhood where the residents know each other well, because they not only live together, but they also work at the university.
This is misdirection at its best. Even though Harper is our narrator, we get to distrust if we are getting the truth from her in addition to wondering which of her neighbors are trustworthy as it seems they all have a secret or two to hide. Then after another event in the neighborhood, the stakes become even higher for Harper.
If you haven’t read a Miranda book, this is not a fast paced book. She spends time setting the neighborhood and developing the relationships of the characters. Knowing the neighbors is a big part of the story unraveling. While there isn’t really anything to dislike about Harper, she is a little mousy, letting things happen to her and not really stepping up and directing her part in things. I was really intrigued by Ruby. You have the guessing whether she committed the murders, you just can’t figure out how shady she is now and what her motives are.
This is one of my favorite books of the summer and I highly recommend it for twisty thriller lovers.
I loved everything there was to love about this book! I have always been a sucker for a good whodunit kind of story and this was exactly up my alley. This is the book that finally helped me over come my reading slump. A nice quick read due to not being able to put the book down. I finished in a day! This has become one of my favorite reads of the year and I highly recommend everyone pick up a copy.
I want to thank Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for giving the me the opportunity to review and read this amazing book.
Harper lives alone in a house at Hollow’s Edge, a tightly-knit neighborhood in which a couple was found killed in their own home, but when her former roommate Ruby, who was charged and tried for the murder, returns to live with her again, Harper is forced to uncover the truth about her neighbors and what happened that night.
---
This is a locked room or closed circle mystery focusing on the people and families who live inside eight houses on an idyllic street. And I must say, the beginning of this book blew me away! I LOVED the way the author introduced Harper, the neighborhood and the mystery surrounding what happened to Brandon and Fiona Truett, the couple who were found dead in their own home. I just thought it was incredibly intriguing and well-written.
Besides what I thought was an outstanding beginning, the setting was so vivid and alive that it truly felt like another character. I felt the claustrophobia and paranoia of this lone street, tucked behind a lake, peppered with a row of houses that all seem to be monitoring each other - from the security cameras outside of the homes to the neighbors inside of them, peering out from their windows. And it played around with the idea that ugliness can exist just underneath the most idyllic facades.
Ruby, Harper’s former roommate, was a stand-out character! After being indicted for the murders but not convicted due to a technicality, she returned to live with Harper, and her behavior made it impossible to tell if she was a guilty woman willing to kill again or an innocent woman who was wronged and perhaps seeking revenge.
I also loved the neighborhood message board, which was something like the Nextdoor App for Hollow’s Edge. It was fun to see characters communicate with each other publicly on the board, then erase certain messages due to fear. It helped make the setting feel even more like a fishbowl.
I will say that the tension that built so beautifully in the first half of the book, for me, was deflated a bit by something that happened around the midpoint. This meant that I wasn’t quite as engaged or on-the-edge-of-my-seat reading the second half of the book.
Still, I REALLY enjoyed this latest from Miranda. It’s a slow-burn mystery with a good amount of psychological suspense, and an all-around great summer read for those who love mysteries & thrillers!
It’s out now!
Thank you Simon & Schuster for the ARC!
Megan Miranda has written yet another interesting book I like to read from her! Such A Quiet Place is her new book due out any day! Still catching up on my reviews. I read #suchaquietplace a while ago (while finishing up a second masters, taking exams, and an internship— 2021 has been so busy!) Like all of her others, this one did not disappoint! @meganlmiranda is masterful at character development, and twists and turns, keeping the reader guessing. When a former resident of the quiet, close-knit community of Hollow’s Edge shows up unexpectedly, everyone is suddenly on edge and questioning how well they really know their neighbors, especially when someone ends up dead and everyone has a secret to keep? I absolutely loved this book and all of riveting twists! I am super thankful that I received an #arc from @simonandschuster and @netgalley and since this book hit shelves this week, make sure to add it to the top of your #tbr ! #bookstagram #nyu2021 #readingismyhappyplace #catchinguponbooks
