Megan Miranda sure knows how to churn up a good thriller. She has you hooked from page one. This story does the same. Ruby Fletcher comes back to Hollow's Edge and you already know that there are going to be secrets, and affairs and killings and you can't wait to know more.
We see the story unfold from the POV of Harper who stays at Hollow's Edge and who's housemate is Ruby Fletcher. We see the lives of the people staying there through her eyes and can I just add that this one creepy place.
I love the ominous tension which the author builds from the start. The story is pacy enough to keep you engaged and the characters are built up well.
I don't want to give away too much so I'll just say that this is definitely a book you want to read.
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited to read this book, and the first 100 pages really reeled me in. But then when I realized it wasn't a true thriller OR a true drama, I really lost interest.
A lake community where you think you know everyone, and then a double murder takes place. Someone gets convicted, but 14 months later, she's released on a technicality, and comes right back to the neighborhood where it all began. No one knows who to trust, and who is guilty, innocent, wrongfully convicted, or not convicted at all.
While I loved the first 200 pages, the last 100 lost me. But I think it's a great recommendation for people who love a casual mystery!

You know how you know a book is really good? I just realized the answer to that question after reading this book - holding your breathe while reading. I caught myself doing just that A LOT during this book. I could not, for the life of me, figure this book out. Just when I thought I had it all worked out, the author went and threw me a curve ball. This was my first book by Megan Miranda, and I loved it. I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future. The story follows Harper, a resident of Hollow’s Edge, and how her life is turned upside down after her old roommate, Ruby (who just happened to be convicted of murder), gets the murder verdict overturned and returns home. Oh, and did I mention that the residents of Hollow’s Edge were the ones that put Ruby behind bars with their testimonies? Yeah, that happened. It was a wild ride. The writing was fantastic, I was sucked in from the first page. I am a fan of stories that start the plot line right away, and this book delivered. Trust me when I say this…. READ THIS BOOK. You will not be disappointed.

Wow, Megan Miranda has really delivered with Such a Quiet Place. This slow burn of a novel had me flipping the pages fast entire way through. It is intelligently written and has so much mystery and suspense...I loved this whodunit and was surprised by the reveal. Mary Kubica is a master at dropping clues, some that have you scratching your head and some that hit you right in the face...but they are all so darn well placed. You need to be on your toes to try and put together your own theory and mine was completely wrong...I love when a book can do that. This is my first book by Ms. Miranda and it definitely won't be my last. I highly recommend.

3-word summary: Karens gone wild!
⏰ 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫: Hollows edge is cray, y’all! So a couple was murdered and Ruby Fletcher was convicted. She’s the roommate of protagonist Harper Nash, divorcee, and now Ruby is back after 5 years on an overturned conviction. All the Karens have their eyes out the windows while Ruby saunters in like all is peachy. Harper is caught in the middle. Did Ruby kill their neighbors? Or is there still a sinister killer hiding among the neighbors?
💡𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: Dude. Remind me not to move into THIS ‘hood. Everyone is in everyone’s business and when Ruby returns, it’s like everyone lights up and the abandoned pinball machine of a neighborhood comes alive. This is my 4th Miranda book and what she does well is weave - she weaves characters. She weaves a plot web. The woman must have sore fingers! The first half was focused a lot on Ruby and Harper - your close friend went to prison for killing someone and now she’s in your house? It made me truly ponder - what would I do?
What I enjoyed most was that this seemed realistic - who wants to live in a house (or near it) where someone was killed? And how fast neighbors turn on one another? Pfft! I’ve heard so many stories of back-stabbing neighbors, (which is probably why this past 2 years we’ve seen lots of books about neighbors - we were stuck by em’ thru COVID!)
Protagonist Harper was a bit of a weak lead for my taste, never taking control or even finding a voice; she’s a character who lets things happen rather than MAKING them happen. But in the same token, I could understand her because I KNOW this person - the I’m-stuck-in-the-middle person. I wish I could have sprinkled her with more assertiveness.
Recent neighbors-who-make-you-go-hmmm books I also liked: Suburban Dicks, The Hunting Wives, Good Neighbors (Sarah Langdon)

😍𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨: Oh if you wanna relish is some horrible neighbor muck. It’s kinda fun!
🙅♀️ 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨: if you can’t tolerate a female protagonist who is too quiet.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for my advanced copy in exchange for my always-honest review and for making me side-eye some neighbors and making things kinda awkward.

Great thriller. I knew who’s side I was on but wasn’t quite sure who to trust. Perhaps no one. Plenty of twists to keep me guessing.
Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for the copy.

Such a Quiet Place
By Megan Miranda
Thoughts:
Not all books can be 5 stars. I have enjoyed Megan’s previous books, but this one had me feeling like I was in a spin-off of All My Children. There was not enough character development for me to get invested in. Plus, there were too many side characters that were more distracting than necessary for the plot. This book was too much soap opera and not enough mystery.
ARC FROM NETGALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.
Thank you, Netgalley and Simon & Schuster, for the opportunity to read before publication.

A once tranquil lake community Hollow’s Edge is shocked by two horrible deaths. A presumed killer is found and convicted with witness statement from the community. The conviction is thrown out a little more than a year later. As the accused killer returns to live in the community, its residents are extremely uneasy. Can they trust each other ? Can they trust what they think they saw ? Door cameras play a big role here but can you trust the grainy picture ?
At the same time the show must go on, since this book is set on and around the Fourth of July holiday weekend a neighborhood party and barbecue gets planned - things come to a head …
Intriguing reading, eerily set in a small New England college town, slow building suspense with a dark sense of dread as you turn the pages, entertaining thriller > Such A Quiet Place by Megan Miranda ! Coming July 13th !
Thank you to @netgalley and @simonandschuster for providing me with this eARC in exchange for an honest review !

Welcome to Hollow's Edge, a tight knit community that lives perfect lives. Well that's how it appears until two neighbors are killed. Everyone is casting suspicions around and secrets are about to be revealed,
This was a great thriller. The beginning is a bit slow but builds the back story. However once the plot starts moving, you will not want to put the book down.

Hollows Edge used to be a great and idyllic place to live with a wonderful sense of community until the Truetts were murdered over a year ago and one of their own Ruby, was convicted of the crime. Now Ruby is back with her conviction overturned sparking a huge upset in the neighborhood and everyone is on edge.
The first half of this book was a total slow burn kind of deal, which isn't always my favorite but it when it picked up I couldn't stop reading! The characters really shine in this book with even the smaller side characters feeling very real and fleshed out. I was completely engrossed in trying to figure out what was really going on and trying to decipher past events as well.
This is truly a book I'd recommend going into blind like most mystery/thrillers. Such a Quiet Place really kept me guessing and I definitely did not anticipate the big twist. If you like a classic kind of "Whodunnit" type mystery that's not too graphic this is the book for you!

"Such a Quiet Place" is set in the peaceful neighborhood of Hollow's Edge. Everything about this quiet community seems perfect - until the deaths of two neighbors. Now, everyone is on edge and suspicious of each other. Once you reach the second half of this thriller, good luck putting it down!

Miranda has written another tight thriller. One where memory, secrets and friendship play a pivotal role. One thing that added a lot to the story was the use of third-person plural. Primarily first person narrative but occasionally, Miranda uses "we" to link all the characters together and add that sense of unity that has such an impact on an event in the past. I'd recommend for anyone who loves thrillers. Great book.

This book was given to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. 14 months ago, Ruby was convicted of the double murder of her neighbors. Now her conviction has been overturned and she is back in the neighborhood. Suspicion and tensions mount as everyone who is convinced she is a killer tries to keep their distance. This book was okay for me. There wasn't really any intense moments, just a lot of "what is going to happen?" It shows how people who were once so close can suspect everyone else. Thank you NetGalley, Simon & Schuster and Megan Miranda.

Ruby is released from jail after 14 months, her conviction overturned, and returns to Hollow’s Edge where everyone believes she’s guilty (or isn’t 100% convinced she’s innocent) of killing a couple in the neighborhood. The neighbors know each other well but are afraid to speak up and be blunt with one another; they all desire to be part of the community but have their own secrets and are trying to fend for themselves at the same time. How will Ruby’s return affect them?
I was eager to get to the end and find out ‘who dun it’ but along the way I would say I became more and more underwhelmed by the how the story evolved.
I found the pace great to start but it got a little bit dramatic and then started to be a bit meh. I was hoping for the thrill, a twist, a turn, nothing really shocked me, many parts were predictable. The last chapter I thought was a bit of overkill and I would’ve preferred the ending without it.
The characters weren’t very likable which is something I struggled with. The only thing I did like about a character relationship was the minimal inclusion of Harper confiding in her brother.
I was able to relate a lot to the neighborhood vibe in general; the message board, the complaints and gossip of the neighborhood. I did like the concept that one small secret from many people in a small community can have a large affect on the outcome of a person’s life. Have you ever stopped to think about how a secret you are keeping to protect yourself could have more of an impact on someone else’s life? All it takes is one secret but many small ones combined could mean everything!
Overall I would say it was ok. I’d recommend you to pick up her other books before this one!

I have read prior books by Megan Miranda and this one caught my eye. To me the released scorned prisoner returning to the world has always intrigued me. Such a Quiet Place is so much more then this. The story takes place in the neighborhood of Hollow's Edge where the neighbors are unable to get free of the past the haunt them. The neighborhood holds it's share of dark secrets and dark past including the murder-suicide of one of the neighbors which later becomes a suspected murder by the released prisoner. Unexpectedly the claimed murderer, Ruby, returns to Hollow's Edge.
As you can imagine all hell breaks loose. Neighbors receive threatening notes and images and Harper, the prior roommate of Ruby, is in the midst of it all. Harper is left confused and in fear of the fact she may be now living under the same roof as the suspected murderer. Despite this she still can't help wondering if Ruby actually did murder her neighbors and suspects there is more to Hollow's Edge then she previously realized.
Such a Quiet Place reveals the dirty secrets and the unspoken knowledge of a neighborhood. It leaves you suspecting the suspected murderer and then makes you suspect someone else. Of course though in true Megan Miranda fashion not all is what it seems and the end is the twist you didn't see coming.
Hollow's Edge could be any quiet neighborhood where the neighbors are involved and familiar with each other. That is where the novel gets you because you can relate to the idea that this could happen where I live. The characters in the book could easily be your neighbor next door. Needless to say this book kept my interest and kept me wondering where the twist would come and what would happen next. I look forward to seeing what Miranda comes up with next. Until next time, happy reading!

It was fun escaping into the drama and intrigue of Hollow’s Edge, an upscale suburban community that was recently plagued by a double homicide case. In true domestic thriller fashion, every character has secrets and ulterior motives, making it hard to determine who is truly guilty. There is an underlying sense of menace that keeps the book suspenseful even when there isn’t much happening. It definitely has a high readability factor and I found myself quickly flying through the chapters. Yes, there are some plot holes and events that don’t seem realistic, but overall it is a solid addition to Megan Miranda’s repertoire. Those looking for suburban drama mixed with murder will be sure to enjoy this one!

I thought this book was great! It kept me on my toes guessing who had killed the couple in the neighborhood. The book is focused on the main character Harper. Harper is part of a close-knit community whose roommate, Ruby was convicted of killing a couple in the community. Ruby goes to court but the convicted ends up getting overturned and she comes back to stay with Harper in the small community. Everyone is on edge and wondering why she is back but Harper says the killer is still out there! This one had mostly the POV of Harper, Ruby’s roommate which I thought was a good point of view to narrate through. The only community just seemed to be close-knit and the relationships of them didn’t seem believable that’s why I’m giving it the rating I am. Overall this book was a great fast paced thriller! This one hits the shelves July 13th and you're gonna wanna get your hands on a copy for your beach tote!

The neighborhood of Hollow's Edge is supposed to be idyllic. But Ruby has shown up after being released from prison. No one wants her there, but she sure is trying her hardest to make her presence known. Harper is having a hard time with her back in the house, especially because Harper isn't an assertive person, and saying no comes hard for her. As things escalate in the neighborhood, tensions are running high amongst the neighbors. What more could go wrong?
Miranda writes the story leisurely, slowly building tension and questions for her readers. Focusing on the characters, you get a real feel of life in this close-knit community. Harper was a tough character to follow. She didn't make the best decisions, and I didn't care for how weak she was. However, I enjoyed the slow unraveling of the story and the pacing switch over halfway through. It worked well for a slow-building suspenseful read; nicely done. Thank you, Simon & Schuster, for sending this along.

I have been a fan of Megan Miranda since "All the Missing Girls" and she remains an extremely impressive thriller writer and longtime followers of her books might be slightly disappointed in this one. It was such a slow burn, which isn't a bad thing as long as it pays off in the end. Unfortunately for me, it didn't pay off. I still enjoyed reading the book, and I read it fairly quickly because I was still always interested in finding out what was gonna happen next. I just didn't get that twisty ending I'm used to from Miranda. The character were rather bland and the actions of the characters just felt fake to me. Not unrealistic, just as if I was constantly realizing that I' reading a book, not immersed into a sneaky, sinister world while reading.

Hollow's Edge is a quiet close knit neighborhood until tragedy strikes. When the Truett's are murdered and Ruby Fletcher is convicted of the crime, the neighborhood is forever changed. A year and a half after going to jail, Ruby returns to the neighborhood and back to being Harper's roommate. Harper cannot believe that Ruby is back and just waltzes back into their lives. If Ruby didn't kill the Truett's then who did and is the neighborhood safe? This was a good thriller with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
