I think what brings me back to Megan Miranda’s books time and time again is the character and atmosphere building in her novels. Hollow’s Edge in this novel reminded me of Wisteria Lane from Desperate Housewives. Nosy neighbors but everyone also has their own secrets they don’t want getting out.

I wasn’t really a fan of the way the book ended. There was this really great build-up to the reveal or “twist” and it was sort of a disappointment. While reading it, I even said out loud, “Wait, really?”

Overall, I love reading her books every time they’re release since they are a quick and mostly enjoyable read. I can’t wait for her next one.

This was another wonderful book by Megan Miranda. She continues to be one of my favorite thriller/mystery writers. She continues to excel at writing a slow burn. This time, the setting that takes front and center is a private neighborhood that grapples with its grizzly past and tumultuous present. At the forefront is the relationships forged from proximity and how well do we ever know those closest to us in location. The story is gripping and as usual, I could not put it down and loved the ultimate big reveal.

Unlike Megan Miranda's previous novels, the pace was considerably slower in Such a Quiet Place. It was certainly a slow build, but the ending had a twist that could challenge even the more seasoned mystery lovers to guess right. Overall, an enjoyable summer read.

“Such a Quiet Place” was given to me as an ARC and everyone needs to go ahead and get it on their list!! We have all heard the cliche about not judging a book by its cover, well, what if the same applies to not judging a neighborhood and those who live in it the same way! Set in a beautiful suburb, Hollow’s Edge seems to be the ideal place to live and raise a family, until the unthinkable happens. And then, something even more unthinkable happens. It’s a mystery/thriller you won’t want to put down!!

Such a Quiet Place is a slow-burning murder mystery that explores the idea of innocent until proven guilty when a woman who is accused of murdering two neighbors gets her conviction overturned and returns to the very neighborhood that turned on her years ago. It doesn’t take long for simmering secrets to get revealed and it to become clear that not everyone told the truth years ago. This picturesque neighborhood isn’t so perfect in the end, now is it? If you enjoy Megan Miranda, you’ll be pleased with her latest novel. Readers who enjoy relatable plots with neighborhood mysteries will want to check Such a Quiet Place out.

This was a slow burn. I have been reading it off and on for awhile because it just didn't hook you like I wanted it to, but it was still a good story that I would go back to in between other stories. Overall the suspense was there, it just wasn't as thrilling as I had anticipated from the author's previous books.

No one thought Ruby would come back, to the house next door to where the murders took place to be exact. The town had been almost at a stand still, not able to move on, no going back. Then Ruby comes back home, released on a technicality. What happens from there will keep you guessing.

3.5 stars - A safe, quiet neighborhood... until it wasn't. A slow burning mystery, that at times felt too slow. The "twist" wasn't all that twisty and wasn't proven very well. It was a fun, light thriller (brain-candy) that is perfect for lazy summer reading.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was hooked while just reading the first chapter! Ruby Fletcher was accused of murder of two neighbors and now she's back years later. Ruby has just showed up in the town where she was living in prior and everyone is shocked. The neighborhood has always been a quiet place to live, but now Hollow''s Edge is shocked that Ruby has returned to the scene of the crime. This town will never be the same.

Wow. When there's a mistrial for a murder of a couple and then the murderer shows back up in the neighborhood where the murder happened and we get to see what all unfolds after...? What a ride. I truly love books that bring us into the fold of a small town/neighborhood. Do not wait to read this book!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book!

I absolutely love the premise of this book--a woman accused and tried for the double murder of her neighbor gets released--returning to the community who largely testified against her.

I have only read one other Megan Miranda book so far but I think she's great at the slow burn domestic thriller. To use my kid's term, everyone in this town is a little--or a lot--sus.

Without spoiling anything, there are multiple layers of intrigue in this book that I enjoyed! As a reader, you are given little breadcrumbs throughout the story, but a lot is really revealed in the action-packed ending.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for an advanced copy of this and the opportunity to share my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A convicted murderer returns to her idyllic hometown in this suspense filled mystery. An atmospheric slow burn that builds into a riveting thrill ride. Such A Quiet Place is a great read for summer that's difficult to put down. Well written and evenly paced, fans of Megan Miranda will not be disappointed

Hollow’s Edge is the kind of neighborhood that people dream about living in, on a quiet street with pool access nearby and on the lake. Everyone knows each other, and most work with each other in some form or another at the nearby school, It’s a quiet and safe neighborhood until one morning The Truett’s are found in their home with the car running in the garage, and the carbon monoxide detector missing.

Ruby Fletcher is convicted of their murders and sent to prison for 20 years, but gets out after only 14 months. When she comes back, she tries to go back to life as normal, just showing up at the doorstep of main character and roommate, Harper Nash. Life has moved on, but with Ruby back and everyone convinced that she got away with murder, the neighborhood grows tense.

Secrets are exposed, neighbors are pitted against neighbors, and we are left to ask the question if we really ever know the people we live with.

This wasn’t as twisty as some of Megan Miranda’s other novels, but I enjoyed it. It was a very quick read, and the plot was something many more people will probably be able to relate with.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Shuster for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I’ve been a fan of Megan Miranda since her first novel, All the Missing Girls. This one is an interesting domestic thriller. Hollow Place is a small, quiet lakefront neighborhood in Virginia. A place where everyone was friends. Until a couple was killed in their house and Ruby Fletcher was found guilty of the crime. But now, her conviction has been overturned and she’s returned to the community, setting everyone on edge, especially Harper Nash.
Miranda created a lovely slow burn sense of tension. My mind whipped back and forth about who should be trusted. “Turned out, we were all so close to criminal. All you needed was a good enough motive.” She makes some great points about miscommunication when folks don’t talk face to face.
Not a lot of character development here. It’s all about the suspense. There were several great twists I didn’t see coming, especially the ending. This isn’t a story that ties up all the plot points neatly at the end. I definitely would have liked to learn the whys between a few of the issues.
My thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for an advance copy of this book.

3.5 stars – rounded up (however, I would say the ending was a solid 3).
Megan Miranda’s All The Missing Girls is one of my favorite books. Thus, I was super excited to read her latest A Quiet Place (out July 13!)
Megan Miranda hooked me right in from the beginning. I really enjoyed the first 30%, it was engaging and had so much potential . I thought the premise was perfect, interesting and unique. Ruby returns “home” from her 14th month imprisonment for the suspected murder of her neighbors. Was she really involved? Who was? Who can we trust?
However, the last 70% moved at much slower pace. It did make me question a lot – and thus a good whodunnit book. However, the ending didn’t live up to the hype and just felt like something was missing.
Overall, A Quiet Place was a good suspenseful mystery/thriller that I’m happy I read. I will always be impressed with Miranda’s writing and unique form of storytelling. Pub Date: July 13, 2021

Megan Miranda’s books never disappoint.

“We were good people with bad intentions. Or bad people with good intentions. We imagined ourselves judge and jury, protectors of our community.”

This book is set in a small, quiet neighborhood full of good people. Nothing bad could possibly happen here, until it did.
Ruby Fletcher returns to the small town and crashes back into Harper Nash’s life after being exonerated for the murder of her neighbors. They, including Harper, helped put her behind bars. They just told the truth- didn’t they?

Is there another murderer out there? Did everyone tell the truth or was evidence of another truth concealed? Do they really know each other? They aren’t the bad guys. They’re keeping the neighborhood safe and quiet, as it should be.

Secrets are uncovered a little at a time to reveal the truth of what happened that night. There’s a lot going on in this neighborhood. Its residents are harboring secrets minor and major. Yet most every agrees that only Ruby Fletcher could have committed those murders. It’s the only acceptable truth. It shows us how easy it is to decide you know the truth and determine guilt. It also shows how easy it is to get it very wrong.

What a mess.

I actually did not figure this one out. It’s fun and twisty, with a touch of social commentary. I enjoyed it a lot, even though it took a minute to get into it.

Thank-you to Megan Miranda, Simon & Schuster, and Netgalley for providing this free arc in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been looking forward to Such a Quiet Place for awhile now. It sounded kind of mysterious and creepy and just look at that gorgeous cover! Unfortunately, I found the story rather disappointing.

I know to expect a lot of character development and a slower pace when I pick up a Megan Miranda book, but I thought this one was too slow. It was past the halfway point before anything even happened to actually advance the plot. I thought things might pick up after that, but it remained pretty slow and boring. I also wasn’t a fan of how the mystery slowly unraveled. Harper would just stumble into information and then make big assumptions on what must have happened. I found it pretty anti-climactic when it was all said and done.

Speaking of Harper, she was my greatest struggle while reading this. I spent over half the book being incredibly annoyed and frustrated with her for what a pushover she was. Now, I am a people-pleaser that avoids confrontation, so when I think someone is a pushover, it’s pretty bad. I could not, for the life of me, understand how she could just let Ruby move back into her house, take her car, etc. I didn’t care if Ruby was innocent or a murderer. Harper found her manipulative and untrustworthy and Ruby obviously had zero respect for her. And Harper just acted helpless to ever say no. There’s some things said about how she’s too trusting and that she felt a little guilty, but neither were enough to justify how she allowed Ruby to walk all over her. I’m getting mad all over again just thinking about it.

Overall, Such a Quiet Place was a disappointing read for me. While Miranda does character development and setting very well, those are the only positive things I can really say about this one. I absolutely could not stand how Harper acted and I found the mystery really lacking. However, I’ve seen some much more positive reviews for this book, so if you can handle how frustrating Harper can be, you might enjoy this more than me.

Overall Rating (out of 5): 2 Stars

Her conviction overturned, Ruby Fletcher has returned to Hollow's Edge putting everyone on edge. A suspenseful and thrilling mystery set in the idyllic community of Hollow's Edge where the residents have been plagued with bad luck and hidden secrets.

The cracks are starting to widen as Ruby's presence frightens everyone around her.

I felt that at the beginning it felt a little slow and it was hard to get into but eventually I couldn't put it down! I thought the inclusion of the Community Page messages was a nice breakup and also included something that everyone has probably had some experience with.

It was definitely a slow burn mystery that made me question everything that happened. Who was telling the truth? Who was lying? What secrets were they keeping from one another?

It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and is a perfect summer read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the eARC.

Such a Quiet Place follows a woman in a tight knit community dealing with the aftermath of the death of two of their own. Harper’s roommate was convicted of the murders yet it was overturned. As her roommate comes back into her and the communities’ lives, everything they thought they knew will be questioned. I really enjoyed the mystery of it all. There was a little too much description about the neighborhood and community, but that was probably necessary. The culture of that community was its own character. I definitely enjoyed and look forward to more Megan Miranda books.

A gripping page-turner that doesn't disappoint, SUCH A QUIET PLACE is set in a tranquil, lakeshore neighborhood where neighbors' single-family houses share similar floor plans, where most residents work at the local college, and where everyone thoughtfully follows the rules of the homeowner's association. However, for these unsuspecting residents, their tranquil way of life in this suburban neighborhood is shattered when a husband & wife are found dead in their house and one of their own is accused of murder. As suspicions rise in the neighborhood and clues about the murders unfold, it becomes clear that not all of the neighbors are being completely honest with one another and some have dark secrets they would do anything - perhaps commit murder? - to keep hidden, How well do the neighbors really know one another and what will their home security cameras reveal?
This was my first Megan Miranda book and it lived up to my expectations after reading previous reviews of her books. The story was captivating from beginning to end. A well-told murder mystery, filled with lots of unforeseen plot twists and turns, and numerous possible suspects. It kept me guessing until the end!
