I have read and enjoyed three other books my Megan Miranda, so I was excited for a chance to read her newest book, Such a Quiet Place. This story is centered around a group of neighbors after two of them are killed and one of them (Ruby Fletcher) is convicted of the murders. But then, the conviction is overturned due to an unfair trial and Ruby returns to the scene of the crime leaving the rest of the neighbors on edge.

We get the story from the point of view of Harper, Ruby’s roommate at the time of the murder. She finds herself conflicted as Ruby returns to stay with her and wonders who is the real threat.

This all sounds very interesting, but I was actually kind of disappointed with it. There wasn’t enough action happening. We got a lot of reflection from Harper going on and on about how everyone has secrets and such but I really just wanted the story to move along. It didn’t exactly have me turning pages.

I liked the overall story and thought there were some good twists. But it just didn’t have me on the edge of my seat. Unfortunately, it fell flat. Of all of Miranda’s books that I have read, this one is sadly my least favorite.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for an ARC of this book.

Many thanks to Simon and Schuster and Netgalley for letting me read Such a Quiet Place early. This book will be published July 15!

This book features Harper who is trying to piece together a mystery involving her quiet, sleepy neighborhood and the curiosities of her old roommate, Ruby, and how she’s related to it. Such a Quiet Place makes you rethink how well you can truly know someone. After a suspicious death the fingers begin pointing at Ruby, she begins to question her own opinions of not only her old roommate but also all the ones around her.

I didn’t love this book and I think it’s because there are just so many characters. Too many if you ask me. I began to lose my place in the plot with all the inner monologue of Harper and at the time it just felt like everyone was entirely unreliable. Overall this is a decent mystery and if you like deep character studies and are better at keeping up with a lot of them, then you should read this book.

I couldn’t put this book down! It kept me guessing at every turn and trusting no one! Definitely a must read. I have really enjoyed all of this author’s books and plan to read them all!

First half=Boring. Second half=Riveting!

Hollow's Edge, a safe, picturesque community, seems like the ideal place to live. However, the community changed dramatically when a murder occurred. When the accused murderer returns home, the neighborhood implodes.

What appears idyllic on the outside is full of cracks. The neighbors are nosey, controlling, and complicit. They all have cameras and are obsessed with monitoring the feed, watching one another. Their message board has become a call to action, fueling extremes. They are all borderline creepy and way too involved in one another's lives.

Narrated solely by Harper Nash, one views the happenings of her neighbors through her eyes. But Harper is blind to see what is happening right in front of her face. I found Ruby’s character fascinating and wanted more of her. Harper was likable but a little bland.

Similar to other Megan Miranda novels, Such a Quiet Place starts slowly. The pacing is slow, focusing more on the inhabitants of Hollow's Edge and sets the tone for what is to come. Hollow's Edge serves as the perfect setting: beautiful on the outside, ugly on the inside. The first half focuses on Ruby’s return. While interesting, her return and the implications of her return dragged on for too long.

The second half centers on a big event that I don’t want to reveal, but I will say it makes this book a heck of a whole lot more interesting to read. The second half of the book also reveals many more layers to this book and the characters than I initially thought.

Such a Quiet Place is a tense and atmospheric read. I was ready to give it 2 - 3 stars based on the first 50%, but the second half provided what I love in a thriller: suspense, mind games, and some twists and turns. The constructs of the community are fascinating to read, especially watching the consequences of their herd mentality unfold. There are a few elements of the plot that were glossed over and left unresolved, but overall this book surprised me in a good way!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review

I have read several books by this author and I love her writing style. This book was a little slow for me. It was a good book but past books were more intriguing.

Thank you, NetGalley for an e-ARC of Such A Quiet Place by Megan Miranda.
Such A Quiet Place is a mystery, suspense novel that creates a neighborhood of possible suspects and no one worth trusting. Personally, I found the book to be slow and without suspense. Megan Miranda created a great plot, but failed to execute all of the threads she was weaving. Several leads were left unanswered, and the resolution seemed weak.

I’ve read a few Megan Miranda books and this wasn’t a fave but it wasn’t my least fave either. This was very similar to Someone We Know by Shari Lapena and Watching You by Lisa Jewell. After the murder in their quiet neighborhood of the Truett family and the arrest & conviction of Ruby, she returns to town ready to shake things up. The story is told from the POV of Harper, Ruby’s old roommate, who is terrified of Ruby’s return. Harper is trying to figure out why Ruby came back while also trying to keep the neighbors at bay. My biggest issue here was the giant cast of characters. I had a hard time keeping up with who’s who, so when I got to the big reveal at the end it was not as exciting as it could have been. I did love the investigation and mystery. It didn’t ever feel too spooky or thrilling to me, but there were lots of twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Overall a good little thriller!

Hollow's Edge is a quiet neighborhood, with a pool, a lake, the houses all situated close together, and most of the residents work at the local college. Then Brandon and Fiona Truett are found dead, killed by carbon monoxide poisoning, and the only person seen out that night on security cameras was Ruby Fletcher. The testimony of the neighbors convicted Ruby and sent her to jail. Now, fourteen months later, after her conviction is overturned, Ruby returns to Hollow's Edge and no one knows why. Harper, her roommate before the murders, has "let" Ruby back into her house, and Harper doesn't know what to believe. Truths and lies start to blend together and Harper questions everything she thought she knew about that deadly evening the previous spring. Why has Ruby returned? And what secrets are all the neighbors really keeping from each other, beneath the surface?

This slow burn of a mystery kept me guessing until the very end. It perfectly captures the dissonance between our public personas versus talking behind closed doors and the safety of our fences, as if that's the point at which all sound stops carrying. A quiet neighborhood on the surface with secrets simmering just beneath all the tension as paranoia grows, with everyone wondering what the heck is going on. Why would Ruby return to Hollow's Edge after everything they put her through, so convinced that she was the culprit? There were a few times when I wish the pace was faster but that's because I couldn't wait to get to the end! I wanted to know how it all happened.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend for a fun read, perfect to dive into while lounging outside or on vacation. Or if you don't mind staying up late to reach the end.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for an eARC of the book. All opinions are my own.

I could not put this book down! So many twists and turns that I did not see coming. Compelling and well-written, would definitely recommend! Another great read from Miranda.

Thank you to NetGalley & Simon and Schuster for the advanced review copy of Such a Quiet place in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book. I read another by the author that just wasn't for me. That being said, this one was right up my alley and I loved it!

Some may consider this a slow burn, but I was engaged all the way from the very first chapter. While the entire story is told from Harper's point of view, I love the Hollow's Edge community page entries mixed in. The chapters are relatively short and left me wanting more at the end of each. Another highly recommended summer novel! How well do we really know our neighbors?

Read this one if you...
⭐️Want a creepy & twisty who-dun-it
⭐️Can appreciate a book that's more mystery than thriller
⭐️Want to debate innocent until proven guilty? Or guilty until proven innocent?

I may need to pick up a physical copy when this publishes next month - I love the cover!

4.5 stars (Rounded up to 5 for Goodreads)

Such a quiet place. Is it though? Who to believe and who to trust? So many little tidbits of information. So many secrets swirling around in their perfect little neck of the woods. Well besides Ruby returning.

I love her writing however this book was a bit slow. Overall it was good.

This was a great suspense book! I loved how the author had you suspecting everyone in the neighborhood! The main character, Harper, was a little hard for to relate to but the twists and turns of this story keep you guessing and wrapped up in the mystery. The ending was absolutely fantastic, but that’s all I’m going to say!

As always, Megan Miranda puts out a wonderful story! I’m always excited when there is a new book from her and this one did not disappoint.

Harper is quietly living her life in Hollow's Edge, recovering from the murder of her neighbors Brandon and Fiona Truett the year before. Her roommate Ruby was convicted of the crime and has been in jail for 14 months. But now Ruby's conviction has been overturned and she's back. Harper is scared but can't turn her away. What does Ruby want and how will she affect all the neighbors?

This was a great read. The neighbors are all so intertwined - living in close proximity, plus most of them work in the same place. They think they know everything about each other, but as the suspense builds, it soon becomes apparent they don't really know each other at all. And let me tell you, you might think you've got this all figured out, but you do not. Oh no, you do not.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. On sale July 13, 2021.

Hollow's Edge is a neighborhood where neighbors are all friends but also witness to every detail of each other's life. They mostly work together and live together. It is quiet and idyllic until one couple dies under mysterious circumstances and a neighbor is convicted of their murder using circumstantial evidence from her "neighborhood friends". When Ruby gets out of jail on the grounds of new evidence, she returns home to her roommate Harper, set on clearing her name and finding out what really happened. Rudy's presence makes Harper nervous for her safety and ostracized. Who's "side" is Harper really on?
What Megan Miranda has built her name on and does so well is make you uncomfortable. I was so nervous for Harper- her house and privacy and everything are invaded when Ruby returns. As the book goes on, you begin to question everyone's motives and secrets come out and you wonder if you can really trust Harper at all?
I liked, but didn't completely love this book. It works well as a neighborhood thriller but the nervousness that it did so well also made it not as fun to read! If you want a good, suspenseful book with a large cast of characters to suspect, then this book might be for you. This would be good for readers of Lisa Jewell and Sally Hepworth.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advance readers copy.

Such a Quiet Place was a gripping suspense/thriller! I was hooked from the beginning. It really makes you think about appearances and neighbors and trust. The ending was great!

This is definitely a slower-paced book than we are used to from Megan Miranda, but it is still enjoyable. We all want to believe we live in a community that looks out for each other, but Such A Quiet Place will make us question how well we truly know our neighbors. Harper believes that she lives in a near-idyllic community. However, when an alleged killer waltzes back into their lives, Harper must question everything and everyone to find out what living in this neighborhood really means. When people will do anything to make sure that justice is served, no one is truly safe.

This was the first Megan Miranda book I have read, and it was okay - but definitely worth reading. The story seemed to take a while to get into, and very few - if any - of the characters were likeable. There were a couple of twisty moments that had me guessing. Thanks NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for giving me a digital arc of this title.

A slow-burn, character driven mystery, perfectly set in an unsuspecting suburban neighborhood. Meghan Miranda has methodically developed characters and a story line with layers of intricate twists and turns. Watching it all come undone and all the moving parts slowly fall into place is thoroughly entertaining. Great read.

Megan Miranda's latest novel, Such a Quiet Place, is a slow-paced whodunnit. It takes place in the close knit neighborhood of Hollow's Edge. Neighbors all know each other and stop by to chat, help each other out and borrow the milk. A year and a half ago, the Truett's were murdered in this sleepy community and one of their own, Ruby, was convicted for the murder. When her conviction is overturned- guess who strolls back into the community with a glimmer in her eye? That's right, Ruby is back and the neighborhood is aghast! These neighbors are not only upset but nervous, they happened to testify against her. Ruby is back, but now SHE'S getting threats and a a feeling she's being watched.
This story is creative, the characterization was lackluster, the story is pretty gratifying, if a little obvious. This is my 2nd Miranda book and certainly won't be my last! 3.5 stars. Thank you to the publisher, Netgalley and author for the ARC!
