WOW! JUST WOW!!

Megan Miranda has done it again writing another twisty, turny book full of psychological suspense. I love how atmospheric this book was, pulling me into the pages from the very first paragraph. I also love how well the characters are portrayed, really giving me an opportunity to slowly get to know them as the good and bad aspects of each are revealed. Moreover, I love how the author kept leading me on with those small bits of insight, having me think things might be this way, and then that way finally having me so unsure that I could only frantically flip through the pages until I found out that the character I was rooting for, was okay after all.

This is another 5 star book by an author who is rapidly becoming one of my favorites.

I have read several Megan Miranda books and really enjoyed them so I was beyond exciting when I was approved for this one on Netgalley. Thank you to the publisher for the chance to read and review! This book did not disappoint the high expectations I went into this book with. This one did have me stop and think through what I knew and evaluate killers. I thought it was a good mix of clues and mystery and I did not know the full story of who dunnit when I got to the end which is a sign of a great thriller for me.

The cast of characters was very interesting but I wouldn’t describe any of them as like able. The narrator, Harper, is shocked to find that her old roommate, Ruby, snuck back into her house. She’s shocked because Ruby spent the past 14 months in prison before her conviction got overturned for murdering the couple next door. All of the neighborhood had come together to piece together timelines and present evidence. They’d solved package thefts and other neighborhood crimes, why not murder? But with new mysterious evidence that will exonerate Ruby for good everyone is wondering why she came back. This neighborhood has layers and layers of secrets for Harper to dig through to find the truth.

Such a Quiet Place was a good idea and had me interested at first. But then it fell flat. I just could not get into it.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC for an honest review.

This was such a slog. It took me so long to read. There is some action halfway through but then it gets boring again. The ending was surprising to me but still could not redeem the rest of the book, and was not super shocking or intriguing. The characters were not likeable or even memorable. Harper was very annoying - also, she constantly mentions her brother but nothing ever comes of that detail.

Megan Miranda is a master at creating fast-paced stories with plenty of unexpected twists and turns without sacrificing character development. “Such a Quiet Place,” her latest work, is a great example of this. The focus of this thriller is on Harper who lives in a quiet community near a lake (Hollow’s Edge) and is employed at the nearby college. When the murder of a couple rocks the area, Harper’s roommate, Ruby, is convicted for this time.

14 months later, Ruby is released after evidence indicates Harper might not have been the murderer. Harper is stunned to discover Ruby at her door, acting like nothing has changed. If Ruby didn’t cause the murders, then who did and is that person willing to stop at anything (including murdering again) to prevent from being discovered?

Megan Miranda is quite skilled at building tension, and this novel is a great example of it. I loved the setting of a small town community where everyone knows everyone’s business, and how Hollow’s Edge becomes a vital character of this thriller. While I did have difficulty keeping track of all of the various names, the author spends a lot of time on descriptions of the people and where they live intentionally. After a slow start (probably because of that description), I felt yanked into the action; from that point on, it was quite the rocky ride, and I love how your idea of whom the murderer continues to change. I appreciated the perception of mob mentality—if law and order could not take care of seeking justice, then the citizens of Hollow’s Edge would. Three and a half stars.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster, NetGalley and Megan Miranda for my advanced copy.

Well formed plot that is furnished too slowly and with reduced dramatic impact. Would be a better on television, or edited more tightly.

Another great Megan Miranda book. Definitely keeps you reading with all the twists and turn.s. The ending was not expected.

I loved this book! The neighborhood though seemingly normal definitely has its secrets and I liked watching them unfold through the story.

Wow. You know a book is good when you get to the reveal and you didn’t see it coming.

I’ll be honest, I’ve read other Megan Miranda books, but this was the first that I’ve loved. Maybe because I live in a small town where there are neighborhood pages and neighborhood watches, and I felt like I was totally immersed in this story.

• Plot: “We had no warning that she’d come back.

Hollow’s Edge used to be a quiet place. A private and idyllic neighborhood where neighbors dropped in on neighbors, celebrated graduation and holiday parties together, and looked out for one another. But then came the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett. A year and a half later, Hollow’s Edge is simmering. The residents are trapped, unable to sell their homes, confronted daily by the empty Truett house, and suffocated by their trial testimonies that implicated one of their own. Ruby Fletcher. And now, Ruby’s back.

With her conviction overturned, Ruby waltzes right back to Hollow’s Edge, and into the home she once shared with Harper Nash. Harper, five years older, has always treated Ruby like a wayward younger sister. But now she’s terrified. What possible good could come of Ruby returning to the scene of the crime? And how can she possibly turn her away, when she knows Ruby has nowhere to go?

Within days, suspicion spreads like a virus across Hollow’s Edge. It’s increasingly clear that not everyone told the truth about the night of the Truett’s murders. And when Harper begins receiving threatening notes, she realizes she has to uncover the truth before someone else becomes the killer’s next victim.

Pulsating with suspense and with the shocking twists that are Megan Miranda’s trademark, Such a Quiet Place is Megan Miranda’s best novel yet—a twisty locked-box thriller that will keep you turning pages late into the night.”

• Thoughts: This is a great cautionary tale, great suspense- there were times I was holding my breath. If you love suspense, you will love this book. Plan to pre-order it or snatch it as soon as it hits shelves, or put it on your library holds shelf NOW. This will be a huge summer hit, and I could see this being chosen for several celebrity book clubs.

• Rating: Definitely five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

**A huge thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are my own.**

I really liked the theme of this book. The idea that we can turn into monsters and have this sort of mob mentality against the innocent was reminiscent of Lord of the Flies for me. The neighborhood characters were well written and the drama in the neighborhood was entertaining and kept me engaged in the story. I was definitely curious to see if the convicted character was in fact guilty or not. I think this book is great for a reader who enjoys soapy style novels with mystery.

This was my favorite of Megan Miranda's novels. I found the story interesting and compelling. However, like so many in the mystery and thriller genre it did not include fantastical plot points just to keep the drama coming. Everything in the story seemed realistic, and I did not have to suspend my imagination. It was a slow-building mystery with a strong sense of place. Every time I started reading again I was quickly transported back to the neighborhood, and could imagine it in my mind. The characters were well developed and there was the right amount, not too many unnecessary characters to bog down the story. I will definitely recommend this book to my friends, family and students.

Megan Miranda is quickly becoming the queen of suspense and she deserves that honor.

Hollow's Edge, a private neighborhood where nothing happens......usually. On a quiet night a couple is murdered and the talk is one of the neighbors did it, but who is the guilty one?

Enter Ruby Fletcher, the neighbors testify against her and she is sent to prison until now, a year and a half later. Ruby has been released and has returned to Hollow's Edge with the intent of finding out who set her up, why they did it and why she is in danger.

Miranda has set this book up to make us think everyone in the neighborhood is guilty and when the final moment comes and she reveals the surprise that will have you sitting up in bed and yelping "WHAT!" She's that good of an author and you then will want to read everything she's written.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I did not love this book. I kept with it and kept waiting for something to happen...but felt let down. I didn't relate to the characters.

Such a Quiet Place by Megan Miranda is a slow burn read. It has the mystery and a character you love to hate but it will take you to the end to tie up all the pieces and have that Aha! moment. For readers that can stick with the slow pace, the end should satisfy most.

“Did any of us ever see each other here for what we truly were?”

This is my second book by Megan Miranda, after having read  “All the Missing Girls.”  I had hoped “Such a Quiet Place” would leave a longer lasting impression; and unfortunately it did but not in the way I had hoped.

“Such a Quiet Place” starts in the sleepy town of Hollow’s Edge where Ruby Fletcher has just been exonerated of a double murder after 14 months in prison and has decided to come back to the scene of the crime. Before the murder, Ruby lived happily in Harper’s (our narrator) house after Harper’s fiancee moved out.

This book has all the elements of a good thriller: a small quiet neighborhood reminiscent of the episode of “The Twilight Zone” titled “The Monsters are due on Maple Street” where something out of the normal causes the residents to turn on each other.  Neighbors smile at each other but they all are hiding secrets and no one is willing to acknowledge that not everything is as perfect as it seems. Here, the neighbors also have secrets, but when we learn what they are, they only elicited a shrug from me.

The reappearance of Ruby threatens the fragile equilibrium the town has achieved since the murders of the Truetts. And while this setup sounds fantastic, the way in which Ruby renters Hollow’s Edge strains credulity. We are supposed to believe that Harper, the sole owner of the house, has not changed the locks since hearing about Ruby’s release even though she is certain Ruby has a set.  Ruby’s surprising Harper in Harpers’s house is the whole (incredible) setup for the plot, and from there, none of Harper’s actions are those of a sane person.

While I understand Harper is afraid of Ruby, who everyone believes was only released from jail due to a technicality, the reader is left to wonder why Harper can’t get some help from the police (though not the local police are not trustworthy) to kick Ruby out.  Instead Harper cows to Ruby’s every desire and we have to hear the same thought process every time of “you can’t say no to Ruby.”  Why? We are left to wonder.  This, along with “do we ever really know our neighbors,” are refrains repeated over and over again but without reason and this without effect.

It is too difficult to parse or understand the narrator Harper. The reader cannot share or sympathize with her thoughts, fears or actions and so the reader is left not with a great story but just frustrated and confused.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for this ARC.

I really liked this domestic thriller set in a quiet neighborhood where everyone is keeping secrets and there is a lot more going on behind the scenes that it appears. I read a lot of suspense titles, and I appreciated the unique hook that author used to draw me into the story. The twist at the end was unpredictable and satisfying. I enjoyed this way more than a previous book I read by the author (The Girl from Widow Hills) and I'm so glad I gave the author another chance!

A conservative upper class enclave is rocked when the young woman convicted of the murders of two of their neighbors is released on a technicality and comes back to live among them. What is the young woman's intention? Is she back to clear her name or to seek revenge, and, more importantly, will she kill again?

Megan Miranda, author of a Reese' s Book club selection, returns with another woman-forward thriller that promises to 've one of THE beach reads of the summer.

Thank you for this advanced copy. So I have either loved her books or couldn't get into them. This one wasn't bad. I do feel parts were predictable, but did not see the ending coming. Not bad.....not my favorite, but did have some good suspense and secrets.
