Awesome mystery about a woman convicted of a crime she may not of committed. The neighborhood that Harper lives in is quiet and pretty self contained. The neighbors look out for each other and have a neighborhood watch program set up. But when one of their own is convicted of murdering the couple next door all their trust is shattered. When Ruby’s conviction is overturned and she returns to live with Harper, everyone is shocked and worried. If Ruby isn’t the murderer then who is? Slow burn thriller full of twists and turns.
Such A Quiet Place is definitely more of a slow burn satisfying mystery but I really enjoyed the small, close knit college neighborhood as the setting for this novel. I think it is extremely reflective of the loyalty, judgment and defensiveness found in other gated or small communities where everyone knows perhaps TOO much about everyone. I have read almost every book by Miranda and while her storylines are often well thought out, sometimes her characters are slightly difficult to connect with and root for. Regardless, her books always make you keep compulsively reading towards the conclusion so 4 stars for this one!
The meandering type of story telling the author used in this novel gave it a mysterious quality that kept my interest. She revealed little aspects of the story and moved back and forth in time which slowed it down a little as we try to figure out who is responsible for the Truetts’ murders. The neighborhood watch group all testified at the trial that convicted Ruby. Fourteen months later Ruby’s conviction is overturned and she comes back to watch and listen as the secrets are revealed and odd behaviors observed. She is determined to solve the crime. This thriller was a bit of the lighter side but had a unique quality that I enjoyed. #SuchAQuietPlace #MeganMiranda #NetGalley
While I really enjoy Megan Miranda’s writing style and this was a relatively quick read for me, the story moved a little too slow for my taste. If you’re looking for a neighborhood murder mystery whodunnit, look for this book in July. Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
✨ The Title/Cover Draw:
I really enjoy Megan Miranda’s books so I will totally read any that come up. Thanks to #netgalley for this one!
💜 What I liked:
The setting is not unique but the situation of the accused killer coming back to the scene of the crime is fascinating. I really enjoyed seeing all the different variations of the crime.
😱 What I didn’t like:
I’m not sure there was enough suspicion cast on the other people or that we got enough time to get to know them enough to suspect them.
💁♀️ The Characters:
Harper lives and works in a small community and her roommate (and convicted killer) returns from jail to the scene of the crime.
🚦 The Ending:
Slightly surprising to be honest!
💭 Consider if you like:
THRILLERS! It is still really great to read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Received from Netgalley.
Such a Quiet Place is a bit slow throughout, but don’t take that as a bad thing. You’re on the edge throughout and just a bit uncomfortable throughout Miranda’s novel. Everything seems just right in this quiet community, although there are some interesting players. In the middle, the novel picks up and then you’ll be hurtling to finish it. Overall, this is definitely a reread, as all of Megan’s books are, but this one is more unsettling, mainly because of how realistic this novel is compared to her other ones.
This is a character driven story sent to me by Netgalley on Kindle for a review. It is not my favorite and was not one I could get through. For others, it might be a fantastic read so give it a try. The author is a good writer and uses her craft wisely.
Megan Miranda is always hit or miss with me and THIS ONE HIT. This has been my favorite MM by far. Are you involved in a neighborhood facebook group? Then this book is for you. It will totally give you the chills and make you look at your neighbors a little differently.
I have seen a few authors bring facebook groups and social media into their thrillers, but few have done it so well. I absolutely loved the "who-dun-it" story line and even though there were a ton of characters, I had no problem keeping up with who's who. The twists and turns along the way had my mouth on the floor. This definitely wasn't your basic 2+2=4 plot line.
My biggest complaint was the ENDING. It felt unfinished and I NEED AN EPILOGUE. DO YOU HEAR ME MEGAN?? GIVE ME A FINALE! :)
IF you are a Megan Miranda fan, do not wait to pre-order this.
If you have never read Megan Miranda before, this is where you should start!
I love Megan Miranda. Her books are always suspenseful, entertaining, and and well written.
Such a Quiet Place was different from Miranda's past books. This one was more of a slow burn with a more suspense and less thrills. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time just waiting for something to happen and when it did about halfway through the burn kept going. There was a really well developed plot and a large group of interesting, secretive, and suspicious characters that added to the depth of the story.
Miranda's writing also seemed to be a bit different from past books. There was a complexity to the story and the psychology behind living after a conviction and impact of being exposed to a horrific crime. It was a complex and interesting story that really explored the the line between innocence and guilt. It also explored the impact witnesses have in the justice system, for better or for worse. There were so many deep and interesting moments that really moved the story beyond just another thriller.
Overall, I was really impressed with what Miranda did with this story and I'm looking forward to her future books!
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for the ARC.

QUICK SYNOPSIS: A typically quiet neighborhood turns into the scene of a crime when Brandon and Fiona Truett are discovered to be murdered. Ruby, the suspect, is convicted to prison for 14 months, but soon returns to the neighborhood to seek revenge. Within days, rumors and suspicion of the truth spread like wildfire through the neighbors. But what exactly is the truth? Read the book to find out.
STORYLINE & THOUGHTS:
~ This is the first book I read by Megan Miranda.
~ I enjoyed the majority of the story and was intrigued by the character development of each neighbor that was introduced.
~ Sadly, it wasn't until I was 60% through the book when the mystery and suspense began to build up. Once I got to that portion of the book, I couldn't stop reading.
~ The overall suspense level of the book would be a 3 out of 5 for me. The ending was to be expected, but I enjoyed how the story unraveled.

This is Miranda’s best novel yet! The mystery drew me in immediately and was excellently plotted and paced, but what really stood out was how well Miranda developed the impact of this crime and its aftermath on the community as a whole and on the individual main characters. It gave the book depth and made it even more compelling. Highly recommend!
I am pretty sure I have said this before, but I have never met a Megan Miranda book that I did not love. This book is no exception.
The book centers around Hollow's Edge, a small town where all the residents are physically and emotionally connected. It is a small community where everyone knows everyone else's business. Harper Nash is the main character of this novel, and she is a relatively recent addition to the neighborhood. She and her fiance had moved to the town a few years prior, but things quickly change with the murder of two former residents, The Truetts.
Ruby, the suspected killer, was living with Harper at the time of the murders (without giving spoilers), and the community had never really warmed up to her. Ruby comes back to prove her innocence, but the residents are not pleased and want her back where she belongs.
What follows is a replay of the events leading up to the murders of the Truetts. Harper starts to question if the events happened the way the other residents said or was this a way to get Ruby out of their lives for good? The neighbors are always watching, so who saw what? Who is lying, and who is telling the truth? The story is filled with twists and turns and had me questioning my theories constantly. The ending... I NEVER SAW IT COMING. It was beautifully fantastic, but I think some people will either really love it or hate it. I really liked it, but it was almost the kind of feeling when you put a book down and think to yourself, "what the heck just happened?"
Overall, Megan Miranda continues to be one of my favorite Thriller/Suspense/Mystery writers. Thank you to Simon and Schuster, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
In a small private neighborhood two years after a couple of residents were murdered, Ruby is released from prison after her conviction is overturned. She returns back to the same neighborhood and the same house, surprising her former roommate, Harper, and the rest of the neighbors, many of whom were responsible for her arrest. Either Ruby really is guilty but she's back in their midst, or one of them was the real killer. I didn't really like any of the characters here and found it hard to care that much about them. I didn't guess at what the ending was, but otherwise I wasn't that into the whole thing. 3 stars.
Ever since I read All The Missing Girls, Megan Miranda has been one of my favorite authors of this genre. Such A Quiet Place does not disappoint.
The book takes place in Hollow's Edge a private neighborhood where the neighbors are close, they look after each other and they even work together at the local college. A year and a half ago Brandon and Fiona Truett were murdered. Their neighbor Ruby Fletcher was implicated in the crime, but she was released on a technicality. She is now back in Hollow's Edge and living with her roommate Harper Nash. Harper is scared of what will happen now that Ruby is back and determined to get revenge. Tensions are rising in the neighborhood and it is clear not everyone was telling the truth about what happened that night.
Megan Miranda writes a superb thriller and the twists are excellent and well earned. There was an almost Agatha Christie-like quality to this book, a tight-knit community who have isolated themselves with a killer in their midsts. Miranda gives out enough clues to keep you guessing but is never heavy-handed.
I loved this book and I know this will be one I recommend to friends.
I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster, and Megan Miranda for access to an ARC in exchange for an honest review!!
Megan Miranda is one of my favorite thriller authors, up there with Riley Sager. Her favorite novels of mine have to be The Perfect Stranger and The Last House Guest. I really enjoyed this book, but it won't be surpassing either of those as my top two.
This book begins as a very slow burn, which had me flipping through the pages quickly hoping to get into the real meat of the novel, this happened around halfway through the book, and once it hit I couldn't put it down. I finished this book in about 4 hours because it is an easy read and I had to know what happened, a perfect book to take to the beach or pool this summer!
I felt the characters and their backstories could have been fleshed out a little more, but still the neighborhood was a great setting for this thriller.
initial thoughts: while I wanted to love this one - Megan Miranda’s books are always “must reads” for me - this one was just okay for me.
the beginning of the book was a bit slow, and the introduction of quite a few bland characters from the neighborhood, made it slow going for the first five or six chapters.
I did like the setting of Hollow’s Edge - what close neighborhood doesn’t have a HOA page that can get out of control? in Hollow’s Edge though, I really didn’t connect with any of the characters.
without giving anyway too many spoilers, I just had a hard time getting my head around “why?” Why was Ruby in jail? Why the conspiracy to land her there? and then the ending - just “eh” for me. I just didn’t understand the “whys” around Ruby.
while it wasn’t my favorite Megan Miranda read, I’ll still continue to pick up her future books.
huge thanks to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the ARC!
This is my fourth Megan Miranda book and it did not disappoint! It sucked me in from the beginning. It took me a bit to get through the first half but I couldn’t put it down thereafter! If you like a good mystery, this hits the spot-with a little different ending than expected. If you want to pick up a book that you know you’ll want to finish AND enjoy- you can’t go wrong with this author!
Enjoyed this thriller with drama and mystery. A who done it with many characters to keep you guessing. Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for this ARC. I will definitely be looking to read more books from this author.
Miranda is becoming one of my fav authors like Coben. And C J box. She has a way of creating plots that suck you and engaging characters which she has with this book. It feels like a steamy southern night where evil lurks nearby.
Very good fast read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the Advanced Release Copy in exchange for my honest review.
I am a huge Megan Miranda fan and was so excited to get an ARC of her latest novel. It was a really interesting premise and the build-up was in typical Miranda style. Unfortunately, it was a let-down at the end. Without adding any spoilers, the resolution just seemed very abrupt compared to the time spent building it up. Overall, it was still a good read, just not her best.
