Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of Such a Quiet Place.
Listen, this is my 3rd Megan Miranda novel and every time I start one of her stories, I can't put it down. Here's a hint- pick a day of the week- for me, it's Sunday- where you have nothing else to do. Seriously. Pour all the coffee, find the comfiest spot in your house, put your phone on silent, and go. Once you start any of her thrillers, you're not going to want to stop until you find out what is REALLY going on. EVERY TIME.
I am always weary about saying too much about any thriller like this for fear of accidentally spoiling things BUT I had several guesses for how this book would turn out, and none of them were entirely right. Miranda keeps you guessing and changing your mind, and I love her for it. I look forward to each of her books and highly recommend them if you love a good guessing game, whodunnit, with characters who are (mostly) actually likeable.
Such a Quiet Place instantly jumped high up on the list with my other favorites by Megan Miranda! The writing and the reveals and the action were at their best!
This book introduces to us to the neighborhood of Hollow’s Edge that is reeling after the murder of a couple, and the subsequent murder conviction of another resident, Ruby. It has been over a year and the neighbors are just trying to return to normal. Ruby’s best friend Harper gets two shocks-not only is Ruby’s conviction overturned, but Ruby also comes back to the neighborhood and moves in with Harper. Suddenly all the neighbors who happily provided evidence against Ruby must confront the possibility that whether or not she is innocent, they are going to have to face it.
Some books just feel like summer. A lot of my recent reads have focused on friendship, with all its layers and complexities. From the early chapters of this book, I was so drawn in. The tension between Harper and Ruby with their shared history and slights is so lifelike. You feel the backstory of this complicated relationship in every exchange.
Such a Quiet Place makes me think of two things- “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” and that childhood saying, when you point a finger to blame, be mindful of the other four pointing back at you. The neighbors are trapped in a cycle of paranoia that feels very classic but still relevant to how we are all armchair detectives who consume media and make ill-informed decisions based on perceptions. Their neighborhood could be any neighborhood, basically.
I was genuinely surprised by the end reveal, which is all I will say. This novel really feels like a back to form for one of my faves!
Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the ARC!
Harper's life is thrown for a loop when her former roommate and friend is released from jail. After over a year in jail for the death of neighbors in their "perfect" neighborhood, Ruby's is home and free and looking for truth. Her return turns the neighborhood on its side as paranoia and secrets haunt the neighbors. I enjoyed the story but it fell a little flat for me. I keep waiting for a bit more. I am a huge fan of Miranda's books and will continue to check them out. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book was very bland. None of the characters had any redeeming qualities and I've forgotten everyone's name five minutes after finishing the book. The plot was non existent. It just went around in circle. There were so many other directions murder in suburbia could go and this was the worst direction.
megan Miranda As always a pretty solid summertime thriller. I actually kind of wish This one was a wee bit longer because I think that there was a lot to be mined here in terms of a small community and their secrets. The mystery was actually quite well done although it did get a bit muddy in parts. The characters weren't as well drawn out as I would have liked them to have been hence why I also said I thought it should be a little bit longer. I wasn't fully invested in any of their lives and there was a little bit of confusion for me on some of the relationships. But overall this would definitely be a great be treat and she keeps being one of the best in the genre.
Harper Nash's life is completely thrown off track when her former roommate Ruby walks through the door. A year and a half ago, Ruby was sentenced to twenty years for the murder of their neighbors. With her conviction overturned, Ruby has returned, determined to get revenge on the idyllic neighborhood who all testified against her. Although I've enjoyed her previous books, Miranda's newest domestic thriller missed the mark. With few plot twists and very little suspense, the story was much too slow to hold my attention.
Without warning, she comes back. Hollow’s Edge had always been known as a quiet, idyllic neighborhood where nothing bad ever happened. A place where neighbors celebrated birthdays and graduations together, dropped by to say hello, and always looked out for one another. That is, until the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett. A year and half later, residents are trapped, unable to sell their homes and forced to face the fact they implicated one of their own. Ruby Fletcher. With her conviction overturned, she returns to the home she once shared with Harper Nash. What good could possibly come from Ruby returning to the scene of the crime? Within days of her return, suspicions once again begin to rise. It becomes clear that not everyone was entirely truthful about the night of the Truett’s murders...
This was my second Megan Miranda novel and, unfortunately, it was not a hit for me. The pacing of this story was an excruciating crawl and I felt like I was forcing myself to read it. Although when I reached the second half of the book, it started to pick up for me and I felt the ending included the shocking twist you would expect from Megan Miranda. But what really killed my rating was how boring some of the characters were, the character of Harper Nash to be more specific. She just struck me as a push over with not much personality or growth. The storyline overall was very creative and I did enjoy parts of the book, but it just wasn’t my favorite. I hope my next experience with Megan Miranda is better!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the E-ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Megan Miranda brings another suspenseful book which keeps you guessing throughout the whole book. The story setting is in a small community where everyone knows everyone’s business. I mean who has not lived in a community like this. The neighbor’s secrets are slowly revealed throughout the book.
The story starts after a believed killer is released from jail and moves back into the community where the murders occurred. You learn more about each of the neighbor and how they are all tied into the murder which leads to a lot of guessing around the secrets in both the case and the neighbors themselves. The story unfolds and with twists and turns and ends with a plot twist.
The reason I only gave it 4 stars is because at times is because slow and takes away from the story for me.
A small neighborhood where everyone knows everyone turns out to be not as quiet as it initially seems when a couple is murdered and the convicted murderer returns to Hollow's Edge to live with her old roommate. With the entire neighborhood suspicious and uneasy, Harper, the main character, tries to uncover the truth before someone else gets hurt.
SUCH A QUIET PLACE is the definition of a slow burn. The majority of the book is spent creating an eerie mood and peeling back new layers at a snails pace. Though that's not to say this isn't a page turner. For a book where much isn't revealed until the last few chapters, its ominous feel compels the reader to hold their breath while hoping that what will happen isn't as bad as you think it could be.
You'll experience twists and turns and second guess yourself throughout the book, including in the end. If you live in a tight-knit community in real life, after spending time in Hollow's Edge, you might start to wonder how much you know your neighbors and if anyone can be trusted.
*Thanks to Simon & Schuster who supplied an ARC via NetGalley.
Another good book from reliably entertaining author, Megan Miranda. This one is set in a nice neighborhood, with a group of characters that feel as familiar as our own neighbors. Is one of them a murderer? Is it the person everyone assumes it must be? Many hidden secrets and twists make this book a page-turner. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoy Megan Miranda's books, and was very happy to be able to read the ARC of this title. It was an intriguing beginning, and continued at a slow pace - an interesting read. A tight knit community has a double murder, with one of the neighbors sent down for the crime - but, she didn't do it. After a year, she is released, and returns to the neighborhood, unliked and shunned, (she is rather unlikeable!) to find out who actually committed the crime. It was a great read, and I would suggest it to others that like this genre. Thank you.
Megan Miranda's Such a Quiet Place was a book that I could not put down. I did not want it to end. I will be reading more of Miranda's books.
This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Miranda is a master of suspense. A murder takes place in a secluded neighborhood and all answers point to one person. When that person is exonerated and comes back home people definitely do not like it. And then weird things start to happen . I literally couldn’t put this book down and finished in one reading. Amazing character development and integration. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Hallows Edge is a close knit neighbor hood, everyone knows everyone. The neighbors celebrate together share their lives with each other and they have good relationships with each other. But one night, a sleeping couple is murdered in their bed. There is an accusation, an arrest and thanks to all the neighbors putting the pieces needed into place, Ruby is incarcerated.
But 14 months after serving time, Ruby is let out and she has decided to move back to Hallows Edge and live with the same friend and roommate as she did prior to the murders Harper Nash.
Harper had no idea Ruby was coming and is uncertain how this will be looked at by the neighbors. The neighbors are furious and want Ruby GONE! Ruby has no intention of leaving but she does have the intent to make someone pay for the false accusations that locked her up. Ruby has returned with REVENGE on her mind.
Lies will be told, secrets revealed and relationships tested but the truth will come out.
The reader will be turning pages as fast as possible to connect the dots.
The plot is twisty and keeps one engaged right up until the end. Megan Miranda has done it again!
Thank You NetGalley for the advanced copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
I'm a big Megan Miranda fan- I've read 5 of her books before this one and loved them all. I was excited to get this one from netgalley.. Unfortunately, this book just wasn't very exciting like her others. I didn't really care about the mystery much and the ending was anti-climatic. It wasn't a BAD book necessarily. It would be a good summer pool read but just didn't live up to my expectations.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
Happy day!! I’m excited to share my review of Megan Miranda’s latest book!
Pub date: July 13, 2021
Synopsis: Hollow’s Edge used to be a quiet place. A private and idyllic neighborhood where neighbors dropped in on neighbors, celebrated graduation and holiday parties together, and looked out for one another. But then came the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett. A year and a half later, Hollow’s Edge is simmering. The residents are trapped, unable to sell their homes, confronted daily by the empty Truett house, and suffocated by their trial testimonies that implicated one of their own. Ruby Fletcher. And now, Ruby’s back.
With her conviction overturned, Ruby waltzes right back to Hollow’s Edge, and into the home she once shared with Harper Nash. Harper, five years older, has always treated Ruby like a wayward younger sister. But now she’s terrified. What possible good could come of Ruby returning to the scene of the crime? And how can she possibly turn her away, when she knows Ruby has nowhere to go?
Within days, suspicion spreads like a virus across Hollow’s Edge. It’s increasingly clear that not everyone told the truth about the night of the Truett’s murders. And when Harper begins receiving threatening notes, she realizes she has to uncover the truth before someone else becomes the killer’s next victim.
Review: Wow oh Wow! Megan Miranda does it again with another eery book that leaves you hanging from beginning to end. Every detail, every moment pumped into this one is sure to leave you wanting more and more. The ever so popular neighborhood setting has yet another book out- and this time, you won’t be left disappointed. This quiet, nice neighborhood that’s lakeside has a murder and the supposed murderer has been released? Juicy! This one kept me guessing until the end and I seriously cannot wait for this one to hit the shelves later this summer. It’s going to be so popular! I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to review for this title. Miranda is truly the master at incorporating setting as a character. Gripping. Bold. And downright intense. Don’t miss it!!
I LOVED Such a Quiet Place! While it wasn't as plot twisty as some of Miranda's other reads, the entire premise and deeper meanings of this book made it absolutely perfect!
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This is a modern-day game of Clue, a neighborhood whodunit that keeps you guessing and accusing until the end. Hollow's Edge is a close-knit neighborhood where everyone knows your business and keeps tabs on your comings and goings, especially now that Ruby has been released from jail. Ruby is accused of murdering fellow neighbors Brandon and Fiona. Ruby nonchalantly returns to her friend and roommate Harper's home, which catches her off guard and puts her on the defensive. Harper tries to make sense of what Ruby is doing now that she's back, as are the neighbors when they learn of her return. It becomes clear through a community message board and door cameras that everyone has their own story about the night their fellow neighbor's died and that while the finger is being pointed elsewhere, the guilty party will be uncovered.
First off I want to say a huge thank you to the publisher Simon Schuster , the author Megan Miranda, and to NetGalley for inviting me to read and review it, as soon as I saw the email I was like yes please because I had no idea she was coming out with a new book and Simon Schuster has never let me down with their books that they've invited me to read at least when it comes to their thrillers . Plus this is one book I would pick up in a heart beat even if it wasn't a Megan Miranda book, there's something about books that I like when they take place in either a small town or a small neighborhood where everyone seems to know each others business as well as having secrets that are waiting to come out and there's always someone who's willing to go that extra mile to keep them even if it means murder. So set back and enjoy a book that has all of the stuff in it that a small neighborhood has which is mystery, drama, secrets, and it even its every own friendly murderer living in it.
Another thriller by Megan MIranda! This time we are taken to the quiet neighborhood of Hollow Lake. Residents are neighbors and friends and co-workers. When one of them is accused of committing a crime in the neighborhood, it doesn't take long for the others to turn on her. When she is released 14 months into a 20-year sentence and returns to Hollow Lake, the neighborhood goes on high alert. Read Such a Quiet Place to find out what happens when neighbors become foes. Miranda does not disappoint with her latest signature mystery/suspense novel.
