Thank you #NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of Such a Quiet Place in exchange for an honest review.
This Megan Miranda novel unfolds in a quiet little street filled with college faculty and staff. It would seem like an innocent place, except there is an empty house where two people died and a neighbor was convicted of their murder. But when the conviction is overturned and the Ruby Fletcher is not only released but chooses to return to the street, everything is really shaken up. Harper Nash finds herself without notice once again being room mates with Ruby, and struggling to figure out if there is more truth to be unraveled (which yes- of course there is more to the story!)
This is a quick paced easy read. I felt compelled to keep turning the pages, but also was frustrated by a lot of the choices of characters, some which just seemed unrealistic. I enjoyed the story, but would not rate it as a favorite from this author. 3.5 stars
Hollow's Edge used to be the neighborhood everyone envied. There was a pool, a mixture of neighbors in various life stages and of course they had a chat to watch everyone's back and of course it was a quiet place. That was until two of the residents were murdered and one of the neighbors was charged with the murder, and then the people in the neighborhood were stuck there because of what happened they couldnt sell thier houses and move away. When Ruby's conviction was overturned she returned back to the house she used to share with Harper. Harper is stuck in between a tough spot where she can't turn her friend away because she has nowhere to go but she has to wonder why did Ruby return to the scene of the crime. But as time progresses and Harper starts receiving threatening notes it appears that not everyone has told the truth about the murders and now Harper has to figure out who the real murderer really is before another murder happens!
Okay so I've read a few by Megan Miranda and while this one was a bit more of a slow building burn I really enjoyed it. I could really feel for Harper because she is literally stuck in between a rock and a hard spot and then you have Ruby who is very manipulative but she is determined to be out and about to show she is still there even after several of the neighbors testified against her. I loved that this wasn't your typical whodunit type of book because the reader is pointed in several different directions so the reveal was not who I thought it was! I definitely enjoyed this novel and I am looking forward to more books by this author.
✨ARC REVIEW✨Such a Quiet Place by Megan Miranda
Publish date: July 13, 2021
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
I was really anticipating Miranda’s latest release; a slowburn/whodunnit mystery that had me guessing at every page- you think you know what’s going on, but then Miranda twists and turns have you guessing other culprits or motives! Plenty of neighborhood drama, and a case that’ll spin you around until you don’t know what or who to believe. To be completely honest & coming from a true crime/paranormal enthusiast, there were a few suspenseful moments I read late at night and I definitely got the creeps and double checked my locks! (If you read this book, don’t judge me 😅 - sometimes I can be a scaredy cat)
I won’t give anything away & you can review the synopsis online, but the writing exponentially heightens the suspense and drama versus what has actually happened. I do feel the characters were a bit difficult to differentiate between- none were determined to be people of color or any particular ethnicity, and none were given any memorable traits or personalities; it did make for a somewhat in exciting setting. I do understand the premise of this story was to take place in a higher income, close-knit, college town community where crime is almost nonexistent - but the characters & setting were a little bland.
Some may feel that the end of the book wrapped things up quickly. However, I loved its simplicity, its lesson, and the reminder that we have the frightening power to turn ourselves from normal people into monsters when we feel most threatened.
Overall, not the craziest thriller I’ve ever read but I loved the story, plot, and Megan Miranda’s writing, of course! Definitely check this out when it releases!
ARC granted from @netgalley & @simonandschuster - thank you!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. Megan Miranda has done it again, LOVED the story!! A mystery that takes place in a small quiet neighborhood. I was drawn in to the story right away and found it hard to put the book down!! I was on the edge of my seat towards the end!! Will definitely recommend!
I love a Megan Miranda book and this one did not disappoint! It was fast paced, easy to follow and I finished it in two sittings!
Hollow’s Edge is a quaint and quiet neighborhood until Ruby Fletcher is convicted and sentenced to 20 years for the murder of her neighbors Brandon and Fiona Truett. But 14 months later she is released when new evidence surfaces and overturns her conviction. Ruby returns to the home she shared with Harper Nash and immediately the neighborhood conspires against her to prove she’s guilty while she proclaims her innocence. This novel had me guessing at every turn with multiple unexpected twists. At every flip of the page we question who we can and cannot trust, and whether or not Ruby really is a murderer. I can’t wait for the pub date in July so everyone can pick this one up. Megan Miranda at her finest.
I really loved this book, I was hooked until the end!! I want to say Ruby was my favorite, I wanted to hate her at first but then as she was doing sneaky things it was so intriguing like she was a mad mind running two steps ahead of everyone!! It was wonderfully masterful and twisting with intrigue!! It all tied together so well and I loved how it showcased can you feel safe in a neighborhood when you really see what everyone is hiding?! This was easy enough to follow along with a higher number of characters developing through the story, and written well to keep you hooked to the last page!! Harper was a great main character and I liked her almost as much as Ruby and Hollow's Edge could be so many places I actually started to look out the window to my neighborhood and imagine it being right outside my door!! Thank you Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the high suspense thrilling read to review with my honest opinions! Megan Miranda is a craftfully mastered writer and I love her written masterpieces!!
After a startling murder in a small neighborhood results in Ruby being sentenced to 20 years in jail. Somehow, she is released after 14 months and she returns to the neighborhood and moves in with her former roommate Harper.. When she arrives to the neighborhood where many people testified against her, she wreaks additional havoc and another crime occurs.
I didn't love love it, but it was a fast read.
I’ve read many of Megan Miranda’s books and loved them, so I was really excited for the opportunity to read and review Such a Quiet Place. While I didn’t feel the book was terrible, it fell very flat for me. It lacked character development, and I felt like it jumped right in to the meat of the story, with no lead-in, or time to form any attachments to the characters. Because of this, it was quite like watching a movie that just dives in without much premise or backstory of the characters. There was enough plot to keep me reading, but it definitely lacked thrill. It pains me to write a not so great review, as I was a huge fan of All the Missing Girls and The Perfect Stranger.
I was given the opportunity to read and review this book through Net Galley and I am so glad! The story sucked you in and you'll find yourself thinking about the characters long after you finish the book. Can't wait to read more by this author!!
This was an okay, but not great new installment from Megan Miranda. I guess there is a sub sub genre of neighbourhood thriller, and this one definitely had a good premise—a couple in this very nice lakeside neighbourhood turns up dead in their own bed under suspicious circumstances . Ruby, a neighbour, is arrested for this crime. Because of the lack of evidence, the conviction is overturned and Ruby returns, back to the home she was renting a share of and her friend/landlady, Harper, who is our protagonist.
My problem with this book, with its good premise and really well written and suspenseful scenes, was the thin plot and the lack of characterization. I didn’t really understand why Harper was so servile and meek, and would often get many of the characters’ names and characteristics mixed up. Was Tina the one with the creepy kids? Was Margo the one with the creepy husband? I did like the neighbourhood messageboards, it seemed like NextDoor, but less evil. There were red herrings aplenty but those were not very effective because it was hard to tell the characters apart.
But it was good and twisty and I kept at it, even with the flaws, so that’s a sign of Megan Miranda’s artful writing. Not a recommend, but I’m still going to read the next one.
After new evidence is found, Ruby Fletcher is released from prison, where she had ended up for the murders of her neighbors. Ruby shows up at Harper’s home, where she was living when the couple next door died (and for which she was convicted of murdering).
Ruby does not receive a warm welcome back into the neighborhood, but nobody can quite convince her to leave. Her appearance back in the quiet and picturesque neighborhood throws everyone off kilter. New mysteries begin to occur and bad feelings and distrust run rampant in the neighborhood.
This was a good read, but not quite at the same level of some of Megan Miranda’s books. It was entertains and easy to read with her trademark plot twists, yet the ending could’ve been better. I’d definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for a fast and engrossing read.
Huge thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
I have enjoyed all of Megan Miranda's books so far. This one was a little different than what I had anticipated. I very much enjoyed the setting of a close knit neighborhood where everyone seems to watch out for each other. This was not a gripping, hang onto your set kind of book, but a very, very slow burning thriller. You suspect everyone at one point or another of being shady. Again, not what I expected but I definitely enjoyed it.
This mystery novel takes place in a lakeside community, where everyone supposedly knows everyone. A married couple are murdered in their home, and the suspicion falls on Ruby Fletcher. During Ruby's murder trial, she is released because of irregularities. Surprisingly, she returns to Hollow's Edge,, and the residents are uneasy. As events unfold, Ruby's friend Harper Nash, works to solve the mystery.
Megan Miranda is a master at incorporating place or setting as a character of its own. The quiet community the story takes place in is as important to the story as the individual characters she writes about, Such a Quiet Place is a story of suburbia where neighbors are close but distant. Friends on the surface but strangers in reality. Do you really know who lives next door to you? It’s gripping from the beginning and will keep you guessing throughout. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this up and coming author.
I really enjoyed this book! I’ve loved every book I’ve read by Megan Miranda and Such a Quiet Place is definitely a new favorite. I am a big fan of Miranda’s writing style and it truly shined in Such a Quiet Place. I will be recommending this to anyone looking for a great thriller!
Such a Quiet Place is a great thriller! So many crazy plot twists that I didn't see coming... I couldn't put this down!
We are thinking about herd immunity in these days, but there is also something called herd psychology. If you want to see an example of that, you need to read this book. You can see how fear of being odd one out or the only one telling the truth while others are obviously hiding something can destroy people's lives for no good reason. You will get big "Big Little Lies" or "Pretty Little Liars" vibes from this story if you are into close-knit, middle to upper middle class communities going wild!
Hollow's Edge is a very quiet community. Everyone works at the college close to the community and they have relatively similar family structures and background. They can go each others' house like they are the owners. They have their parties for every American holiday. They use online boards to discuss topics before they bring them up during community meetings. They all feel safe in this place until a family dies from carbon monoxide poisoning and they all think that they see and know everything well enough to point finger at someone... someone who is not like them....
After her trial and 14 months spending in prison, Ruby comes back to this community to take a good look people who caused her spend 14 months in prison and make them very uncomfortable with her existence. But is this the only reason that she is back or does she have another agenda? Also, how long this community will be able to live with Ruby before they can break? Like I said if you are into small community thrillers, pick this up when it's out!!!
This book blew me away! I was unable to but it down. Perfect, dazzlingly, very well written. The details the author described throughout the book was so amazing. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.
Unlike Megan Miranda's other books, I found this one to be slow and not very exciting. The idea of bunch of academicians or people who worked for the college inhabiting at a quite neighborhood, fifty closely packed homes which are similarly designed, modestly priced, oriented toward the water named Hollow’s Edge like a big connected family till two of them had been killed and one of them got convicted from the murder excited me a lot. I could not find anything about the characters perceptible to differentiate them from each other. Most of them were so dull, boring , ordinary. They were too boring, suffering from lack of intelligence or charisma to be killer. And at the end we got the real reason why those uninteresting people couldn’t be killers instead of irritating the hell of us. It’s definitely not a bad book. I still enjoyed the slow burn whodunnit mystery idea at a close knit neighborhood and the author perfectly succeeded confusing our minds by pointing us different directions to doubt about the different characters’ suspicious motives!
