Mayan Miranda goes above and beyond to bring you into the world she created. You won’t be able to put it down. Grab a snack, cozy blanket and a drink. Sit for a spell and enjoy.
Hollow's Edge, a quiet little community of co-workers and friends. Everyone knows each other and socialize as well. One night a couple is murdered in their home in this idyllic neighborhood. Everyone in the neighborhood suspects it is Ruby Fletcher. Ruby is arrested and awaiting trial. After sitting in jail for 14 months, her conviction is overturned. Ruby returns to the neighborhood to live with her friend Harper. Why did Ruby return to this neighborhood? What does she want? Did she really murder the couple? Harper asks all of these questions and more. As everyone in the little community becomes suspicious of each other, this wild ride will take you back to that night of the murder and who was really involved. While this book started off a bit slow, it sure did pick up at the halfway mark. I enjoyed this one very much. Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for the ARC of this book.
I love Megan Miranda’s books so I was very excited to get this one for reviewing purposes. Megan Miranda had me on my feet the entire time. I was not sure of Ruby’s intentions, and once she was no longer in the picture, I had no idea where it was going. The twists and turns were unstoppable, as I expect from Miranda. She’s done it again! So ready for pub day so I can recommend this to all my thriller lovers.
This is an excellent book! Starts out with a simmer, but hang in there...it's one of those where you can't figure out who done it, and will be shocked!
As other reviewers have said, there was a slow build in this one. It kept me interested, but I was definitely able to step away from this book (i.e, it wasn't a 1-sitting book for me). I did have a hard time connecting with the main character (Harper), though, which I think is why this wasn't my absolutely favorite.
I received an electronic copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Well.....she has done it again!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Absolutely brilliant read!! This is one of my top 5 favorite authors every book has been amazing.
Such a Quiet Place was my first book by Megan Miranda, and won’t be my last. The build up on this was slow for me, but kept my attention. The “ neighborhood “ was so believable and easy to get caught up in.
I feel like I would have liked a little bit more development in character and story but overall I really enjoyed this thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon Schuster for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
A solid suspense novel but I felt the ending was a bit of a disappointment. Still, this had just the right amount of creepy to keep me turning the pages. This is another novel that makes me glad I don't live in a planned community. Perfect for fans of Shari LaPena, Lisa Jewell, and the author's other novels.
This book is like Peyton Place on steroids. A murder happens in the “perfect neighborhood” and one of their own goes to prison. However, now she is out and looking for revenge. Another great book by Megan Miranda!
As an absolute lover of Megan Miranda, I could not wait to get my hands on this book. It was defiantly a slow burn, but the last 20% of the book read very fast. I enjoyed this book because it was a different idea that has not been used. Ruby Fletcher was put in jail for the murder of her neighbors and was convicted by her neighbor testimonies. When new evidence exonerates Ruby and she returns home, her neighbors are less than welcoming. As mysterious notes start to show up at Harper Nash's house, she begins to question Ruby's innocence and the lengths her neighbors would go to to protect their own. This book read much slower than Miranda's previous reads and fell short in some plot points, but was over all a good read. There was not a huge reveal at the end, but I still found the premise very good and different than other books
A special thanks to Simon and Schuster for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
SUCH A QUIET PLACE
BY MEGAN MIRANDA
About a 4.5 star rating.
Since reading Megan Miranda's first breathtaking novel called "All the Missing Girls," she set the bar extremely high for herself and I think other fellow reader's of this genre that have read her books after that just might agree. "Such a Quiet Place," in my humble opinion comes in very close to her debut. I don't really know if when an author writes such an amazing first book, if we just assume that every one written after that is supposed to be equally as excellent. I know that I have read each and every book after her debut and I think that this one is probably as close to her first one in living up to her wonderful imagination and her prowess of crafting a fantastic mystery.
I really enjoyed "Such a Quiet Place." The narrative was seamlessly written and flowed giving us a taut and suspenseful plot. We already know by reading the synopsis that Ruby's conviction has been overturned after nearly fourteen or fifteen months of her serving a prison sentence for a double homicide of the next door neighbor's to Harper who were Brandon and Fiona Truett. They died of carbon monoxide poisoning in their house when their vehicle was left running in their garage and the inside door was left ajar. Their dog barking in their back yard and the neighbor's all being an idyllic little community of cookie cutter houses were all shocked and Ruby who it seems was responsible. So when Ruby comes waltzing back to the scene of the crime after being released she just walks right back in to Harper's home without even knocking on the door.
Harper was Ruby's old roommate moving in after Harper's boyfriend Aidan moved out unbeknownst to Harper that he was planning on moving out. More than few of her neighbor's knew that Aidan was planning on moving out. You can imagine the utter surprise when Ruby comes back uninvited and without any prior notice to the neighborhood including Harper. Hollow's Edge is the neighborhood and most of the neighbor's work as Harper does for the School system. Their is a neighborhood pool and a lake and an online community bulletin that the neighbor's post to that usually announces pool get together's, neighborhood watches and gossip.
Ruby spends no time at all barging back into Harper's home and the neighborhood at Hollow's Edge. Ruby takes Harper's car the next day saying that she has an appointment with her lawyer and stays gone for over forty-eight hour's but coming back with new clothes, groceries and offers to make dinner. Where did Ruby really go? Can she be trusted that she did in fact meet with her attorney? I got the impression that not all was what it appeared to be on the surface. I kept reading this as there is something else that happens and among the many neighbor's there are many ambiguous vibes that permeate the many mysteries of the past and present. I hope that the fans of Megan Miranda enjoy this latest offering as much as I did. I do agree with the synopsis that this one is among her best so far. There were many twists and turns and when it got dark I had all of the lights off in my house and I admit to being scared as I raced to the conclusion. I didn't guess the ending although I did have an idea about Ruby's guilt or innocence but this novel didn't disappoint and kept me guessing as there is much suspense. I do recommend this highly and do think that fans of "All the Missing Girl's will find this to be just as thrilling.

Megan Miranda's thrillers are known to be jam-packed with twists, energetically paced and brimming with unscrupulous characters. Her latest entry, "Such a Quiet Place" is a nice addition to her collection of mysteries. The story is set in the bucolic community of Hollow's Edge, a quiet enclave of homes nestled along a lake in a college town.
A year and a half prior, Brandon and Fiona Truett were murdered in their sleep. Testimonies by neighbors ultimately led to the arrest and conviction of Ruby Fletcher, who lived next door to the murdered couple. Now Ruby's conviction has been overturned and she is back to stay with her roommate Harper Nash. Her return has unleashed a torrent of suspicion and distrust among the community.
Harper soon realizes that perhaps everything is not as it seems. Amid a flurry of threats and finger pointing she tries to uncover the truth of what happened that fateful night. What becomes evident is the uncertainty of Harper's initial assessment of Ruby and the danger of aligning with a group to assign blame to someone. Was Ruby responsible for Brandon and Fiona's deaths, or was it someone else?
The premise of this book was very interesting and the ending was totally unexpected. What lingers most is the unraveling of people's ethical behavior. Many thanks to Simon and Schuster and NetGalley for sharing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I've read a few books by Megan Miranda and loved them, so I had high expectations going into this one. Sadly, it was just okay.
Ruby returns "home" to her roommate Harper's after a 14 month imprisonment for the suspected murder of their neighbors. Harper and the rest of the neighborhood had played a role in Ruby's arrest. But now that Ruby is back, asking questions and proclaiming her innocence, Harper isn't sure what to believe.
This is a good whodunnit mystery, with a few twists and a few moments of action, but overall I was just left with the feeling that something was missing. That said, it's still worth a read, and I'll still be anxiously awaiting Miranda's next novel.
Thank you to @netgalley and @simonandschuster for this advance copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thank you Simon & Schuster, Megan Miranda, and NetGalley for this ARC. Set to be released July 2021
Such A Quiet Place is my second Megan Miranda book. Similar to The Girl From Willow Hills in it's slow burn approach. Slow the burn may be, but I felt the heat throughout. How well do we really know our neighbors?
We see them at block parties, when we come and go, check our mail, etc. Would we be shocked to discover one is a calculated killer? What do we discover about ourselves in the fallout?
This book had some serious creep factor. As I progressed through the story, I found myself shutting my blinds; making sure all the doors were locked. Every night time sound sent my heart racing. A sure sign of excellent writing. She got.under my skin! I sped through this book in 2 days. 3 children and a husband may or may not have been slightly neglected in the process! *Shrugs* 4⭐
I loved the atmosphere of this book - a quiet neighborhood on a lake during summer. Even though I’m reading this during the winter, I could feel the heat of summer through her descriptions. I liked the arc of the plot and characters, and didn’t see the end coming. Enjoyed this one a lot. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I have loved all of Megan Miranda’s books, including this one. This is a slow-burn thriller set in a close-knit neighborhood of “friends” so I knew it was going to work for me. I can’t resist a messy community!
When two neighbors die one of Hollow Edge’s own is convicted of murder. Ruby is young and has an imperfect past. Then her conviction is overturned and Ruby returns home, although no one can quite figure out why. There is suspicion that she is back to punish those who testified against her. There is also the question of whether she has returned to find out what really happened that night and clear her name.
Each character is messy and suspicious and hard to read. It’s just hard to tell what secret they are covering up (there are so many to choose from in this neighborhood). I enjoyed feeling slightly off kilter throughout the read as I tried to figure out who was being honest and who was guilty of what. I can safely say that I never saw the end coming! This is a great domestic thriller/mystery and perfect read for the summer (the season is a big part of the atmosphere of the book).
Thanks to Megan Miranda, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This thriller taking place in a bucolic neighborhood centers on a protagonist previously convicted of a heinous crime who now returns. A thrilling me surprising read!
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
I read this one a while ago and should’ve reviewed it sooner because I can’t remember a whole lot. Ruby has come back to the small quiet town where something terrible happened, something everyone believes was her doing. Holly can’t believe it when Ruby shows up at her door and asks to stay with her, and when she starts receiving threatening messages, she starts to question what really happened that terrible night. This was decent but I didn’t love it. The twist seemed a little far fetched. 3.5 stars.
I am a big fan of Megan Miranda’s work. I’ve read all of her thrillers for adults and felt like this one missed the mark just a little. It was definitely a slow burn, which I liked, but was left feeling a little flat by the ending. I loved how she set the scene in the neighborhood and could feel the tension among the neighbors as they figured out what was going on with Ruby. I had to suspend some belief that Harper or anyone would just let someone back into their house like that. I will pick up Miranda’s next work, but was left a little underwhelmed with this one, especially by the ending.
Hollow’s Edge, once a quiet place, was a perfect community where your neighbors were more like your friends and everyone looked out for each other...until the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett. Fourteen months prior Harper Nash's roommate, Ruby Fletcher, was tried and convicted for their murders. Several of her neighbors supplied testimonies in the trial implicating Ruby but new evidence resulted in Ruby's conviction being overturned. Now she's back but as tensions rise within the community, Harper begins to receive threatening notes...someone knows her secret. Not everyone told the truth about that night and now Harper will have to stop a killer before they strike again.
Such a Quiet Place is a fantastic new thriller by author Megan Miranda. I have enjoyed several of her novels but this might be my favorite. The novel begins with a close knit community who is trying to recover from a double homicide that occurred fourteen months prior. We quickly learn that one of their own, Ruby, was implicated in the crimes based on their testimonies. New evidence overturned the conviction and she returns to the "scene of the crime". Harper, Ruby's roommate, still uncertain of her guilt finds herself thrown into a role of protecting Ruby while still remaining "friends" with the neighbors. Things get even more complex as Harper tries to figure out what Ruby wants while trying to uncover the truth about that night. Lots of twists and turns in this one make for a compelling and entertaining read. This is definitely a fun "whodunit" that will keep you turning pages until the end. A must read for 2021!
