"Sleepy is what the news reports once called us, as if we were collectively lazy, oblivious to the danger among us.
In truth, summers here were always dangerous. In their luxury. In their sleepiness. With their lack of structure and sudden influx of time. Time to notice the things we were too busy for during the rest of the year. Time to fixate. Time to make a change.
Anything taken to an extreme was dangerous. Here, in the summer, there was nowhere to hide--not from others and not from yourself."

I live in a particularly tight-knit community; my neighbors are readily available with bottles of wine and a bonfire on Friday nights and will come running with a hairdryer when our pipes freeze during a freak snowstorm. The neighbors of Megan Miranda's Hollow's Edge community are equally reliable, that is until a former neighbor shows up to shatter the neighborhood's idyllic peace and expose its facade. Miranda's latest novel, Such a Quiet Place, is a slow-burning thriller that adeptly explores the promises and pitfalls of having such a trusting neighborhood, where someone is always watching. She expertly crafts relatable, realistic characters -- charming and frustrating. Harper will have you cheering her on while simultaneously screaming NOOOO, DON'T DO THAT! Such a Quiet Place takes our fascination with true crime stories and forces to reader to consider what happens after the television special is over. Miranda sheds a light on the repercussions of posting on Nextdoor. And she does it with imaginative style: I could feel the humid Virginia air sticking to my skin and the tension rising as I tore through every page., ultimately reaching an ending that did NOT disappoint. This is Miranda's best novel since All the Missing Girls.

A good page turner, well written and a long the same vein of her other books. Worth a read, quick entertaining and a good escape.

Finished this one in 1 day! I always love Megan Miranda books. This one did not disappoint.''

"Who needs cameras in Hollow's Edge. We only needed to open our eyes."

Hollow's Edge is the type of community where everyone wants to live. Quiet, friendly and welcoming. Until it isn't. After a double murder in the community, everyone is watching everyone else. Who needs security cameras? When the accused returns, not only the characters, but also the reader are constantly judging: who is the victim and who is the guilty?

Many characters to track, but with a fast=paced storyline and a satisying conclusion, Miranda has done it again.

Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced reader copy for an honest review.

Two and a half stars rounded up. I've loved Miranda's previous books, but this one fell very flat for me. The first half of the book was a total slog. I had to skim and push myself to keep going.

What "normal" person would let someone who they thought might have been a murderer waltz right back into your house? No one. There's suspension of disbelief, but come on.

And, several plot points annoyed me, number one being: The way Ruby is portrayed when she comes back. Specifically, that she NEVER talked about prison, and it didn't seem like prison changed her very much. You spend 14 months in prison... a lot of bad shit happens in prison.

I think I would have liked this story a lot better if it had been told from multiple POV.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for an advanced copy.

I’ve been a fan of Megan Miranda novels since The Last House Guest was chosen as a Reeses Book Club pick so I was thrilled when I read about her new forthcoming book, Such A Quiet Place, available on July 13th, 2021.

Such A Quiet Place takes place in an idyllic neighborhood in the suburbs of Virginia where everything seems picture perfect. Except it’s not. Everyone has a secret to hide and some secrets are bigger than others. When their neighbors are killed in the middle of the night, the finger pointing starts. So when the accused perpetrator returns to the neighborhood, everyone is on pins and needles.

This is a slow-burn whodunit that really picks up about halfway through. It’s complete with the unexpected twists and turns that are a Miranda signature. It was a fast and intriguing read and is one of my favorites from Megan Miranda. I look forward to sharing this with our community and will consider it as a potential pick for our book club. Thank you to Simon & Shuster and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

How well do we know our neighbors? This is the question posed in Megan Miranda’s new mystery, Such a Quiet Place. The title refers to the neighborhood of Hollow’s Edge, which used to be quiet, before the double murder of the Truetts—Harper Nash’s next-door neighbors.

The novel begins when Ruby Fletcher returns to the neighborhood after her conviction for double murder is overturned because of false evidence. Unexpectedly, she moves in with Harper, the narrator. Despite Harper’s anxiety about Ruby moving in, she has always believed her friend is innocent. However, their strange relationship is fraught with lies and deception, despite their former closeness.

There are so many wonderful characters in this book: Harper, with her go-with-the-flow vibe, avoiding confrontation whenever she can. And Ruby, who has so many secrets, and is out to get revenge right from the beginning. Javier and Tate live next door and are harboring their own secrets. Tate once a close friend of Harper but no more. Chase, the cop who falsified evidence to convict Ruby, and is now under investigation. And who can forget Mac, Ruby’s former boyfriend, and Harper’s current boyfriend? But that’s not all. There’s the nervous new mother and the young woman taking care of her elderly parents. All of them believe Ruby murdered the Truetts. But did she? And if not, who among them did? Or maybe it was none of them?

In the middle of this mystery, everything turns on its head with a shocking twist. From there, it moves so fast the reader struggles to keep up until the twisted conclusion. Readers are definitely kept on their toes.

Such a Quiet Place is an amazing book that will make you analyze all your relationships, especially those in your neighborhood. It’s also a mystery with no logical conclusion. Finally, it’s an essay on mob mentality and what happens when evidence is falsified. Similar to the game of Telephone, where in the end, no one knows what the first clue was. There is unrest throughout the book, and the reader is just waiting for the last explosion. This is an amazing novel by Megan Miranda, and could ring true anywhere in any neighborhood.

This thriller is filled with questionable motives and misdirection. It's a true page Turner! Everyone is unreliable in this narration.

Intriguing! Slow burn! Whodunit mystery!
I could not put this one down. As the story took off I honestly didn't think I was going to be able to finish this one.... But Megan did it again with her suspense novel and threw me for a loop!
Wonderful read!

I was super excited to read this on on NetGalley because I have always been a fan of Megan Miranda’s novels. I’ve read All The Missing Girls, The Perfect Stranger, and The Safest Lies and I loved each one! She writes very twisty thrillers that are almost impossible to predict and always waits until the end to reveal the truth.
Harper lives in a quiet college town. Everyone in her little neighborhood works together and know each other very well. After fourteen months, Ruby Fletcher walks into Harper’s house after being let out of prison. Ruby had been found guilty for murdering two neighbors, but recently her case had been absolved. Harper let’s Ruby stay because she doesn’t see that she has any other option, but the other neighbors are quite uneasy about having Ruby in the neighborhood again. They have taken to posting messages about her on the neighborhood message board, setting up a neighborhood watch, and holding private meetings. They don’t trust Ruby and are scared about her living so close to them again. Harper, however, is uncertain about Ruby’s guilt. She thinks that there must be some other explanation and she is determined to get to the bottom of it and figure out what really happened that night. Throughout the book, we see the internal struggles Harper has with trusting Ruby and her other neighbors. This book is full of plot twists, red herrings, and all the other things that make a thriller worth reading!

What I loved:
* Unreliable main character. There were times that I was uncertain whether I could trust Harper’s judgement. I always love that in a book because it makes the reader question everything.
* Unpredictable plot twists. I didn’t see that ending coming at all!
* Fast paced. I loved that there were no unnecessary descriptions and details. The story flowed easily and was very simple to read.

What I didn’t like:
•I wish there had been an epilogue. I still had some questions that were unanswered at the end, but they weren’t important enough to affect my enjoyment of the story.

Ahhh... so good! I’ve always enjoyed Megan Miranda’s writing. Such A Quiet Place was no different! This wasn’t a heart pounding suspenseful thriller, but more like a slow burning mystery. And who doesn’t love some neighborhood drama?! It was a very-quick read for me! Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the ARC!

SUCH A QUIET PLACE by Megan Miranda takes place in Hollow’s Edge, a private and tight-knit neighborhood. What was once a quiet place becomes transformed when a suspicious murder occurs and, a year and a half later, Ruby (the convicted murderer) is tried and found innocent and returns to town.

This was my favorite book that I’ve read by Megan Miranda so far. She played with many elements I absolutely love: private communities where everyone appears to know everyone else’s business, murder (who doesn’t love a good murder), and the slow unfolding of secrets.

While I enjoyed the character of Ruby, I found the other characters to be far less likable. Harper (our main protagonist) has a lot of baggage, which, if used properly, could have propelled her story further, but it acted more as a hindrance in this case. That’s not to say I didn’t like her overall arc, because, let’s be real, I was rooting for her a lot in the end.

The pace of this book was also very slow and repetitive for the first half, and Megan Miranda threw in a lot of red herrings that left me thinking ‘what was the point?’ instead of ‘you really got me!’

All in all, this was a really solid book, and I think Megan’s writing continues to get better, so I’ll be on the lookout for her future work!

I have been a big fan of Megan Miranda's since I read All the Missing Girls. Her books never disappoint me, and Such a Quiet Place is no different! I loved the setting of the book: a small, but intertwined neighborhood where people try to keep their secrets hidden, but they always see the light of day. A community board that seems to stir up more rumors than share the facts. The mystery of was justice ever served or was the wrong person convicted kept me glued to the pages. Each time I thought I had the answer, Megan threw in another curve ball. I will definitely be recommending this book to my fellow mystery readers. Thank you NetGalley and Simon Schuster for an ARC.

This read was such a fun mystery! It kept me on the edge of my seats guessing until the very end. I enjoyed all the twists and turns and recommend to anyone who likes a good mystery with the plot building throughout.

I could not put this book down about 2/3s of the way in, and ended up staying up past my bedtime to finish it! The book is a quick, easy, and enjoyable read even though I found the first half to be a bit slow and repetitive. The setting had a creepy Desperate Housewives feel to it (a seemingly quiet suburban neighborhood with lots going on underneath the facade), and I did get spooked a couple of times! The ending was good and thought-provoking, and I even think that the very last chapter may not have been necessary-it didn’t add anything to the story for me. A clever thriller!

Thank you very much to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for the advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I went into this book with such high hopes. I have really enjoyed Miranda’s other books, and while this has very similar vibes it didn’t have the bite to it that I was craving. The characters aren’t likable and A LOT is left untouched at the end with several characters having seemingly no purpose other than allowing for smoke and mirrors. She does a little bit too good a job of creating this insular community because the issues at hand seemed to belong much more to them than in my thoughts and the frenemy vibe feels a little overdone having read all of her books except one. I did still stay interested throughout the book and got the spooky vibes I was looking for so that’s appreciated. Still love Miranda but this will go to the bottom of the pile when I pick one to recommend. #netgalley #suchaquietplace #simonandschuster

Hats off to Megan Miranda! She’s done it again! This is a great thriller! Rich, believable characters drive a twisted tale about a close knit neighborhood and an unimaginable crime committed against one home. Atmospheric and idyllic,, the neighborhood itself becomes a a character. Quiet, tranquil and picturesque becomes claustrophobic and uncomfortable during a hot summer holiday.

5 solid stars for the always impressive Megan Miranda!

Megan Miranda is one of those authors for me that always brings the excitement and anticipation of her next release date! I was thrilled to have the honor of previewing her upcoming summer release, Such A Quiet Place. Mark your calendars for July 13th - this one is a must read!

The quiet, suburban neighborhood of Hollow's Edge was given quite the shakeup when two of their own are found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning. Even more shocking was the arrest and conviction of Ruby, the neighborhood dog-walker, for their murders. Fast forward 14 months and Ruby's conviction is suddenly overturned. She is released from prison and shows back up in Hollow's Edge like nothing has changed. Her roommate, Harper, is thrust into the center of a community war and she's forced to make some uncomfortable decisions. The worst part is that Harper isn't sure if Ruby is really a killer, or if there is someone even more sinister responsible for the deaths and has been living in the neighborhood disguised as a concerned citizen.

As a domestic suspense/thriller goes, this is as good as it gets in my opinion. Confusion, untrustworthy and unreliable characters, twists & turns around every corner, the modern whodunnit. I'm pretty sure I suspected each neighbor at least once during this book - and for good reason too. As is true in most circles today, not everyone is comfortable being their true self. So how well do you really know your "nice" neighbors? How honest are you to those you're supposed to trust?

My only real struggle while reading came from trying to remember who all the neighbors were and where on the street they lived. There is a lovely overhead drawing of the neighborhood in the beginning pages of the novel, which is super helpful! I just wish it were easier to jump back and forth to check out the map during my read (it's a bit trickier on an e-reader) - there were so many moments when the map needed to be referenced! I think this would be a beautiful novel to be brought to life on-screen. The imagery of the neighborhood, the surrounding woods, the lake with it’s many “fingers”, would all come alive on screen!

Thank you to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster, and Megan Miranda for the generous gift of an eARC in exchange for my honest review.
