While I enjoyed this book, it wasn’t my favorite Megan Miranda novel. The main character was so gullible and did dumb things, but I suppose that propelled the story forward. I found it unbelievable and spent a lot of time rolling my eyes. It was a bit slow for my liking.
*Received for free from netgalley for honest review* Pretty good read, didn't see it ending like that for sure lol would recommend
As always, I loved this book! Megan Miranda really knows how to write an atmospheric rollercoaster. I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone in need of a fast paced book.
This book seemed to be all over the place for me. It was hard to keep up with everything that was going on, and I did not feel satisfied at the ending, only glad it was over and I could move on.
A twisted thriller with very well developed characters and a great writing style. Highly recommended!
I received an eARC of Such A Quiet Place by Megan Miranda from Simon & Schuster and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
5 stars! The first half of the book sets the pace and paints the backdrop. The second half is where the gripping action lies. It's a well-written thriller full of suspense and secrets. Highly recommend it!
Rating: 4.25/5
I have read many neighborhood suspense/ thrillers this year, but I really enjoyed this one! Miranda is great at grabbing your attention and keeping it throughout the book! There were a lot of turns I didn’t see coming. The main character was hard to relate to at first, but I enjoyed her more as the story went on!
Maybe I just need to accept that Megan Miranda is not the thriller author for me. I can't stand in thrillers when the main characters make choices that make no sense to me, it's very hard to relate and feel enmeshed in the story that way and unfortunately that was the case here. Not for me.
Hollow's Edge used to be a quiet place but not any more because Ruby is back. Such a Quiet Place takes readers on a quick-moving trail to discover whodunnit - and everyone looks both innocent and guilty. I am not sure of Miranda's intended audience for this novel so I couldn't quite connect to any of the characters but the plot twists kept me interested and engaged. This is my second Megan Miranda novel and I'm looking forward to reading more! Thanks so much to #NetGalley for the opportunity to preview #SuchAQuietPlace - I really enjoyed it.
Such a Quiet Place is exactly the kind of mystery that I was looking for.
The large cast of characters in a small community were intriguing and entertaining. The constant guessing at guilt, and innocence. This was really a fun book, and I would highly recommend for a fast paced mystery read.
Sadly this was a DNF for me. I just couldn't get into the story and didn't feel a connection to any of the characters. This is all me and says nothing negative about the book itself.
I SEE YOU… “Did any of us ever see each other here for what we truly were?” Ruby Fletcher was convicted of the murder of two of her neighbors in the idyllic community of Hollow’s Edge. When the conviction is overturned, Ruby returns to the scene of the crime. Why would she dare show her face where the tragedy occurred? Is she wanting justice for the victims, or revenge against the ones responsible for her prison sentence? “ A secret simmering existence behind the façades.” Nothing is as it seems in this duplicitous cast of characters. “ We were good people with bad intentions. Or bad people with good intentions. We imagined ourselves judge and jury , protectors of our community.”
Is Ruby the monster everyone believes her to be, or is she the victim of damaging mob mentality? This is a slow burn, but definitely worth the wait. Thank you Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for my copy.
Hollow’s Edge is a private neighborhood where not everything is at it seems. There’s the rich side and the not-quite-so-rich side of town, and everyone seems to have eyes on everyone else. Within this town, Brandon and Fiona Truett are murdered (before the book begins) and Ruby Fletcher goes to prison after her neighbors testified against her at her trial. But, her conviction is overturned and now she’s back, once again sharing the home with Harper Nash, who has always been kind to Ruby, but isn’t so sure about her now. When Harper starts receiving threatening notes after Ruby comes home, she decides to start her own investigation to try to find out the truth, before she becomes the next victim.
I like Megan Miranda’s writing style, and I did enjoy this book, but I didn’t find it incredibly suspenseful or like there was a big build up to something like this genre usually promises. Some other reviewers say this really is more of a mystery than a thriller, and I agree. And I like mysteries, so I don’t mind, I just thought it was going to be more thriller-esque.
I liked Harper, whose point of view this book was told from, but the other characters were more two-dimensional and I felt like I knew what I was going to get with each of them. There were also some holes and the premise itself didn’t make a whole lot of sense once things started being explained, and it's really not clear that Ruby would have ever been convicted in the first place, outside of the small-towns-aren’t-always-as-righteous-as-they-seem-theme, although maybe that’s why lawyers shouldn’t read books with made up trials. The ending was a let down – although I was
Thank you to Simon & Schuster for providing me with an ARC of this copy in exchange for my honest review. It has not influenced my opinion.
In typical Megan Miranda fashion, she had me hooked from the very first page. The characters in this story were so well written, and it genuinely felt like I was one of the “well meaning” neighbors watching all the drama unfold. I loved the way we slowly start to get bits and pieces of what originally happened while also piecing together the SECOND crime. I genuinely love Miranda’s writing style and her storytelling abilities. I gave this one 4 stars and she will always be one of my favorite writers!
I generally enjoy a slow burn but this one never got past that low sizzle. There wasn't a lot of mystery or suspense so I was at least hoping for a good character arc but that didn't happen either. In fact it was difficult to get behind any of the characters. It didn't seem like there was much of anything that happened in this book.
I have only read one other Megan Miranda book and didn't love it but I decided to give her another chance with this book because of how hyped it was. It definitely didn't disappoint. I really liked the characters and mystery of trying to figure out what was happening. It wasn't predictable, which happens with a lot of mystery/thrillers and I definitely didn't see the ending coming. For me though the ending was a little anti-climatic and there wasn't as much suspense as I would have liked. Still I plan to read her other books and hope to like them as much as I liked this one.
Last year, I read my first Megan Miranda book which was The Girl from Widow Hills and I really loved it! I know she has some backlist titles I need to read, but I was really looking forward to reading her newest release, Such a Quiet Place.
This was a pretty entertaining story, but it definitely did not feel like a thriller. I think it would be better classified as contemporary fiction and/or domestic suspense. I loved the small southern Virginia neighborhood setting and if it wasn’t for the secrets and the murders, I would want to live there! This is the kind of book where you don’t like any of the characters. While it was entertaining, I really never became extremely interested in the story and it seemed to have some plot holes that just didn’t all come together. By the end, I wasn’t wowed or extremely satisfied. It was a quick and easy read for domestic suspense lovers.
Like I said, I would read Megan Miranda’s backlist books and any other books she writes, but Such a Quiet Place would not be my first recommendation.
Thank you so much to Simon & Schuster and Netgalley for the gifted copies! All opinions are my own.
This wasn’t my favorite Megan Miranda book but I still enjoyed it. It started out slow and the last half was much more entertaining. It’s a solid mystery-thriller and I definitely didn’t guess the end although it left me kind of disappointed with the truth. Overall, entertaining and will probably appeal more to anyone that lives in a subdivision or has lived in a sub.
THank you netgalley for this early release of Such a Quiet Place!
I started reading this at the bringing of my vacation and I could not put it down! I kept wishing I was back in the hotel room with more time to keep reading. I love the descriptions of the town, it was very eerie and creepy. A little bit of a slow read but worth it
Such a Quiet Place by Megan Miranda was my first by this author but will not be the last. This book had me hooked from the get go. There was something so off with Ruby she gave me serious psycho vibes, I was shocked multiple times by this book and the ending really shocked me. I loved it so much! 5 Star thrill ride!
*thank you to the publishers for sending me an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review*
