This is a series with a large plot connecting each story but with new main characters at the centre of each book. This is a short book and while it's clear that it's going to be erotic from the title I felt the sex scenes took up a lot of the story and while I love spice it needs to flow naturally with the story. The characters and the plot were gripping and I leapt straight into the second book.

I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a quick read. It was actually better than I was expecting based on the cover. It's insta-lust, as tends to be par for the course, but it wasn't done badly as some churned-out-for-a-profit PNR can be. There're some decent steamy scenes, but only really the one block for the entire book. The plot isn't super gripping, but I feel like there wasn't enough book for that to be feasible. I've not read any of the other books, but I assume there is an overarching plot across the series, and each individual book focuses primarily on the romance. If you like smutty PNR and want a quick read, this'll do.

Spice rating- 2.5

I enjoyed this book. It was a quick, yet engaging read that will pull anyone out of a reading slump. Although it’s short ( just 11 chapter + epilogue), this book leads into what I hope will be a really interesting series.

I like how the next book will be leading with different characters and providing readers with different perspectives from different paranormal people within this fantasy world, however I can imaging that Luc and/or Aleah will make an appearance somewhere down the track.

The writing itself was easy, however I think there was points towards the beginning of the book where there were mentions of events that were repeated/ explained a little bit too often, and I think that Jen needed to find a new word instead of using ‘loins’ so much.

There is a sex scene in this book, so it is advised that an appropriate audiences reads this book.

All in all, I think this is a good book with some minor issues, however, I’m excited to see how the story progresses in the next book.

These characters are very realistic. The story is action packed. This story has had my attention since the beginning. I stayed up turning pages late into the night. This was definitely my kind of book.

The Banshee cry and Banshee song leave very little to the imagination when it comes to romance. The story starts off with talking about sex and than bam the characters are in bed. The mystery of the story is thrown away for sex scenes. The story has potential for a really good short story but the author takes the easy way out writing over the top sex scenes.

The stories are the reason I have avoid paranormal romance stories. All sex and very little story or character development.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the copy of Jen Katemi Banshee cry and Banshee song.

A banshee and a vampire? Now that's a new twist. It's exciting, fast-paced and steamy. I enjoyed it a lot. The characters are great and I like dual pov. :) It is an exciting start to a new series.

While 'Banshee Cry: A Steamy Paranormal Fantasy Romance' is indeed it's title, I was expecting more of a build up to the sexy scenes between the two main characters. However the first sexual encounter is literally their first encounter and it also occurs at the opening of the book. Yes.
The story is told via both main characters perspectives, switching between the two. I enjoyed Aleah's more than Luc's. Aleah is a banshee which is a type of fae, and Luc is a vampire who works for the police. I've never encountered a story about a banshee before so I thought it was interesting but I found the wailing to be silly and unintentionally comical. A vampire working for the police also seems quite interesting but unfortunately most of Luc's inner monologue is dominated by how badly he wants to bang Aleah. There was also too many contradictory sentiments, for example, he wants to show Aleah that he's 'not like the other vamps' (I'm paraphrasing) and prove he's not a predator by showing that vampires can 'create feelings of bliss and elation just as well as fear' - completely against her will. He actually thinks this as he's walking away from her house after he's just been kicked out and exploited her hospitality by trying to fuck her after she literally saved his life.
He is also overwhelmed with feelings of protectiveness and insta-love for Aleah when she is devastated by her friend and neighbour having her head ripped off by a rogue vampire (he inexplicably is at the scene before she gets there) but when he gets her home to bed, he is consumed with the inner turmoil of whether or not be should seduce her with a 'vampire blood call' that she would be unable to physically resist aka bang her without her consent.

Genre: Romance | Sci Fi & Fantasy
Release Date: November 9, 2020

Banshee Cry is the first book in the Blood Fae Chronicles series by Jen Katemi.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and the storyline. The romance was steamy (NSFW) and the banter was fun. I thought this was a unique take on the banshee story and I enjoyed all of the paranormal touches.

This was a quick read that I could not put down. I was able to read it all in one sitting! I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Banshee Song!

I'm so grateful to Jen Katemi, Flourish Books, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.
