Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc of The Silent Speak by Val Collins.
4 star read- This was a fast paced, on the edge of seat thrilling and gripping book, full of twists and turns. This follows Aoife whom is a journalist whom is looking for something to boom her Journalism career! But as the same time is going through divorce proceedings with her ex husband named Jason.. whom is very controlling as well as possessive too!! Aoife is actually now in a new relationship with someone called Conor whom is a police detective on a murder suicide case of someone whom is in a bookclub of her friend's. So Aoife decides to start looking into it herself and start investigating this only so after the sister of the man who murdered his family... this was such a page turner with many twists and turns and I couldn't put it down!

The Silent Speak by Val Collins is a fast paced whodunit featuring Aofie, a young freelance journalist who also is dating the lead Detective in a recent tragic 'murder-suicide' of a couple from her book club. The distraught sister of the man accused of murdering his family asks Aofie to look into it more as it doesn't add that the brother she knew and loved would have murdered his family. Aofie agrees to help in order to get exclusive rights to interviewing the surviving family of the man. As she uncovers truths, Aofie discovers there is more than meets the eye and gets too close to the killer. So many twists and turns and red herrings thrown throughout the story. There are 2 previous books that feature this character and although stated each book is a stand-alone, would possibly be helpful in understanding Aofie's own motivation and life as it was little thin in background information. A great read for those that enjoy fast paced murder mysteries. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for my honest and fair opinion.
Aofie is a journalist in Ireland who’s in the process of divorce from her controlling husband. She’s dating an investigator who’s involved in a murder case of an entire family in what looks like a murder suicide of a member of her book club. When the man who is accused of committing the crimes sister comes to ask Aofie to look into the case because she believes he is innocent and the police are convinced that he did it, Aofie finds all kinds of people that look guilty in their circle of friends. As another member of the group gets killed, Aofie has to figure out who it is before the killer strikes again.
There were lots of twists and some bits were fast paced and others kind of drug on but overall it’s worth the read.
Thanks to netgalley for this arc in exchange for my review.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
The Silent Speak is a gripping, fast paced and full of action psychological thriller.
Aoife is a journalist looking to hit the big time to help her Journalling career take off and who is also divorcing her ex husband Jason who's possessive and controlling.
Aoife is in a new relationship with Conor, a detective who is involved in a murder suicide case of someone in a book club her friend is a member of.
Aoife starts her own investigation into this case after being approached by the sister of the man who supposedly murdered his family.
This book kept twisting towards the end keeping you guessing. Just when you think you have it figured out, another twist occurs.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
This is a great whodunit book! The characters are very well developed! And the story is really good!
Even though this was a good quick.read.. I struggled a bit here and there with the book holding my attention.
There was a lot going on it see.ed to me. But overall thus mystery read was a good one!
When I got approved for Val Collins latest book through netgalley I was stoked! Then I was lucky enough to recieve a paperback copy from her as well!! I was hooked from the prologue. It starts out mysteriously with a note pinned to a door and a murdered family. As the story develops I thought I had the who done it part figured out a few times!! I love all of the details that are pertinent to the story, but throw you off the scent until you are close to the end and it all comes together! My mind was blown! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ be sure to check it out pub date Feb 23rd!!!
Thank you for providing this book as a review copy. I had never read anything by the author but was impressed. I was immediately drawn to the book as it was based in Dublin, a city I know well from having family there and visiting on a regular basis. The book itself had a bit of the Jessica Fletcher about it but don't let that put you off. It is an easy read with short sharp chapters. I have to be honest and did not work out the killer until it was revealed. Definitely worth a read for anyone who likes a good mystery. with some humor thrown in the mix.
The Silent Speak by Val Collins is a recommended mystery/whodunit.
Aoife Walsh is in a relationship with Detective Conor Moloney. His teenage son Blaine enjoys her young daughter Amy, but is still withdrawn and sullen around Aoife. Conor and Aoife plan to marry after her divorce from her manipulative husband Jason is finalized, but she doesn't want to announce any engagement. She hopes she can have some kind of good, or at least cordial relationship with Blaine, but it currently seems doubtful.
When she hears the horrific news that an entire family has been violently murdered, she is shocked to hear that the two parents were in her book club. The police believe it was a murder-suicide, but the sister of the husband/father is sure that he would never do such a horrendous act. The sister, Lisa, is not getting information or answers from the police so she wants Aoife to investigate. Lisa knows that Aoife is still a part time freelance journalist, so she will give her an exclusive story if Aoife can uncover what really happened. It is an offer that Aoife can't turn down, so she begins to look into the murders.
The Silent Speak is a fast-paced whodunit that can be read as a standalone novel even though there is apparently a previous book featuring Aoife. There are plenty of twists and you will certainly keep reading to see what happens next. There are plenty of suspects as Aoife conducts her investigation and keeps uncovering more and more information that the police apparently may have missed. It becomes even more serious when another death occurs and it is clear that it wasn't a murder-suicide and the murderer is still at large.
This is an enjoyable novel, although there are numerous times you will also have to set your disbelief aside. This would include that a young part-time freelance journalist with a very young daughter would, quite frankly, have the time to do this, uncover new information so quickly, and that she would manage to get people to talk to her so freely. Character development is also light, but that could be due to previous books featuring the characters. It does have twists in the plot and plenty of suspects, though, so it is enjoyable escapism.

Another brilliant read from this author. I loebd the mystery and suspense and loved the main character as a journalist was a brilliant read. Highly recommended xx
Very well developed characters and an extremely engaging story. Well thought out and very suspenseful story line that keeps the reader guessing until the final twist! This is the book to read this year! Highly recommended!
Ok, so overall a good story but at certain parts I found myself skipping paragraphs that just seemed like fillers to me. I did finish it and at the end I thought ok regardless of the parts I wasn't fond of it still was good.
While I enjoyed the story, for the most part, it just seemed too busy. There were a number of characters who seemed quite unnecessary. That did make it a bit more challenging to try and guess the killer, yet it also made it harder to stay engaged and connect with the characters.
A very enjoyable read! I love a “who done it” kind of thriller/mystery.
I really loved the element of many suspects with motive between the book club, and family members. This alone made it difficult to guess who the killer was- which makes it much more interesting. I think this concept was similar to “The Guest List” but I liked this book far more. I’d definitely be interested in reading more from this author!
Aoife Walsh is trying to settle into her new life as her divorce from her less than charming husband finally comes through. She’s settling into her relationship with Detective Conor Moloney and navigating the tricky task of trying to charm his teenage son. Her life is further shaken up when she learns that the apparent murder/suicide of an entire family involves two people she knows from her book club. Aoife, a journalist, is intrigued by the offer she gets from the main suspect’s sister, Lisa, who believes her brother is innocent. She wants to offer Aoife complete access to the story, believing that Aoife will bring the truth, and the real killer to light. But as Aoife learns, there are plenty of suspects and ugly secrets hidden just beneath the surface of these seemingly normal folks
This book is a fantastic read ! The story of Aoife as a mother, journalist and investigator kept me on my toes the entire time. I read mostly in this genre and often the storyline is predictable but in The Silent Speak that is not the case.
This book was interesting.
My complaint is that the book at times was all over the map. Sometimes too many irrelevant characters
It was a good presence and plot. The main character is likeable
