As a divorced mother of 4, Clementine hasn't ventured into the dating pool in years. As a producer, she has sworn of ever dating men within the entertainment business, that is until she finds herself babysitting the charming Rhett.
Unfortunately, I just didn't really connect with this book. I found Clementines character somewhat lacking, and found some of the storyline rather far fetched, however I can see how others will enjoy this read.
Sadly, Clementine's character itself, and her internal discourse, did not endear me to her, and this tanked the book for me. She seemed to go out of her way to be rude to Rhett, but also not having any qualms about using him for sexual gratification... I'd been hoping there'd be more likeability regarding her character, but this never gelled for me throughout the book, unfortunately
Great summer read! With a great storyline, definitely recommend, the journey the book takes you on means that you cannot put it down!
How to come back into the real world after protecting your heart for such a long time. A great story with characters you really connect with. It really made me smile,
Great book about women and friendship. If you love women’s fiction then this one is for you. The story is amazing and will make you smile.
I was generously given an e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Clementine Rogers is a divorced mother of four sons, and has not dated in ten years, after swearing off men in the entertainment business, in which she is a producer. And then she’s sent to “babysit” Rhett Montgomery, charming, hot actor dealing with scandal and sent to hide away by his publicist. Clementine tries her damndest to resist him throughout their week in isolation. Will they or won’t they?
I didn’t care for this book. Clementine’s internal dialogue was excessive and cringy. I found her to be absolutely ridiculous and rigid. Toward the end, it did get better and had more substance, but Clementine’s character made me hate this book.
This was a really great read, interesting premise. developed characters, good dialogue, engaging leads and a few sad moment s but overall a lot of fun.
Clementine is a forty-five-year- old award-winning screenwriter, CCO of a powerful animation studio, lead mentor at the Entrepreneur Academy, ex-wife of a movie star, mother of four boys and very lonely. All she does is work. As a favor to her best friend, Poppy, she agrees to baby sit a client in Canada. The client is Rhett Montgomery, a forty-year-old actor playboy who once again has gotten himself into trouble. Clem had a run in with Rhett a few years ago and finds him obnoxious, egotistical and a real bore. She believes they can stay in their own rooms while she works on her films and he reads lines for his next movie. Wrong. Whoever rented the condo before has trashed the upstairs bedroom so they will need to work out sleeping arrangements and time for themselves. Can Clem resist Rhett’s charms? I really enjoyed this book. Romance, adventure, humor and tears. An easy and fun read for sure.
I truly enjoyed Give Me Your Reason by new to me author Holly Mortimer. I like books that take place in Los Angeles, and characters who successfully navigate through the craziness of the entertainment industry.
45 year-old Clementine has worked extremely hard to be well respected in Hollywood. Her career as an animated film director and top creative, brings her joy and power. She is also an amazing mother to four young adult men. Her life is very busy to say the least, and she keeps it all in check by abiding by her own set of rules. When her marriage to a famous actor ended, she decided to never again be involved with a celebrity. Clem believes her life is full and satisfying, until one of her best friends asks her to babysit Rhett, a hot and talented actor that enjoys playing the field.
Rhett has always crushed on Clem, all the while knowing that she has only tolerated his existence. When he needs to escape his life in order calm the paparazzi, his publicist arranges a short getaway. Clem is Rhett's publicist's mentor, and reluctantly agrees to help her by ensuring that Rhett stays out of the spotlight for a while. Luckily, Clem has a break in her production schedule and could use some time away. Their excursion up north is a bit harrowing, but over-time they become more than frenemies.
I liked this story and the way the author evolved the romantic relationship between Clem and Rhett. Clem's rules were a constant barrier to love, while Rhett's sensibilities and warmth created a wonderful dynamic. An emotional scene at the end brought more than a few tears to my eyes, so tissues are definitely necessary to have on hand. Overall, a well-written romantic read.

Something about this story seemed so familiar and I can't figure out quite what. It was a nice quick easy to read book and nice to see someone who had clearly been through a lot find someone, it took some work to break down those barriers which to me was a bit more realistic which I like in a story. I really enjoyed the writing style and would definitely read more from this author. I would of liked a bit more background to some other other characters, although the story was focussed on her and Rhett it would of been nice to just explore the people in her life rather than to the fairly basic descriptions we got, especially as this seems to be the first in a series.
I really try to like this one, but I just couldn't.
First it is a little silly, that a grown ass man needs a babysitter.
And she didn't babysit him. I didn't get that.
That why she needs to do that, when she has 4 kids and a job. And babysitting a famous person is not her job.
Than, she is sooo down on herself. She hates her body and everything about it. So if you feel so strong about something do something about it.
And than... All of the sudden she skies. So I didn't she try to ski with her ex?!
This one is confusing book. No, no, no. There is a zero chemistry between them.
2. 5 stars.
First read for me by this author and I liked her writing style.
I did like the story but it felt like it was Clementine's story and not a story about Clementine and Rhett. I found Rhett was a little one dimensional. We don't actually learn that much about him. I felt like we should have read about each day they were in Whistler and them getting to know one another but it just skipped a few days then when they got back home it skipped a few weeks. I wanted to read more about them connecting and getting to know one another.
It was clear Rhett was into Clementine but they didn't even have a conversation about how he probably wouldn't have children as Clementine is 45 and peri menopausal and already has 4 grown children. Rhett just came across as in love and he would do anything to make Clementine his but there were no real obstacles in his way other than Clementine and her rules. He seemed a bit too good to be true!
I feel the story had potential but it didn't quite live up to it's promise. Considering this is going to be a series about the other women in Clementine's mentor group we didn't really get a feel of any of them other than Poppy.
