This book was such a joy to read. It is so well-crafted allowing me to lose myself in the story. The descriptions of the fairy gardens and fairies bring out the little girl in me. I want to build my own fairy garden and have my own fairy companion. The mystery is full of red herring to keep the reader guessing whodunit. I was surprised by who the murder was. A bonus for the reader who enjoys making food that was mentioned//inspired in/by their beloved books, several recipes for beverages and food (both regular and gluten-free versions.) I a looking forward to the next one in the series.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.
A charming fairy garden supply shop owned by Courtney Kelly makes reading this cozy mystery a delightful treat. Can you imagine having a fairy friend and companion? Courtney has fairy Fiona, but only those who believe can see and talk to her. In this story, Fiona calls upon her fairy network to help swiftly solve the murder.
Author Gerber’s imaginative descriptions make this story a joy to read, and it seemed so relaxing to me reading about the many lovely items stocked in Courtney’s shop—I especially love the beautiful teacups and saucers. The author also generously adds several delicious sounding recipes for readers to try. I’m happy to see just a hint of romance between cafe owner, Brady, and Courtney. The supporting characters are likeable unless they’re portrayed the opposite! There are a bunch of guilty-looking people for many different reasons making it fun to try solving the whodunnit before the final reveal. This is a wonderful cozy mystery story!
I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you.
I enjoyed this book. The beginning is a bit confusing with all the people being introduced but they sorted themselves out throughout the story. The mystery is interesting and the characters likeable. I was surprised by who the killer was. I think the fairies are cute. #AGlimmerofaClue #NetGalley
I absolutely loved this whimsical story. Courtney, the main character, is a kind and intelligent amateur sleuth/store owner who has a fairy to help her solve mysteries. The setting is very well described, I would love to visit there and wander through the courtyards and stores looking for a glimmer of a fairy. The plot is filled with unique characters, and red herrings that will make figuring out whodunit a real challenge. The ending surprised me. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a great light-hearted mystery. I received an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Courtney is a fairy garden designer. She also has an adoreable cat named pixie. She is also a referee when her friend wanda gets into a catfight with lana. This book was undenialably cute and fun to read. The world building made me feel like I belonged there. The characters feel like old friends. The story itself drew me in and intrigued me. I was not putting the book down until I finished it. I loved it. It took me the weekend to read it and it was so so worth it. I definitely recommend this book.
When art critic and champion pickleball player Lana Lamar is killed at a fundraiser, and Courtney Kelly, owner of Open Your Imagination, realizes that the murder weapon is part of a fairy garden that she donated (and that the chief suspect is her bestie's mother!!!), she knows she needs to investigate so that she can help clear Wanda Brownie of the crime! Set in picturesque Carmel-by-the Sea, and sprinkled with lots of suspects and clues, this enjoyable story will keep the reader guessing as to the killer's identity right up until the end! For those who believe in fairies (and even for those who don't), Daryl Wood Gerber's delightful second entry in her Fairy Garden Mysteries is a fun and whimsical cozy mystery! A+++
This was a great second book in this cozy mystery series. I love the flair of magic that is added to these books. Fiona the fairy makes a great side kick for our protagonist Courtney. They have a fun relationship and I enjoy their witty banter and how they're becoming closer. The mystery itself was an enjoyable plot, but I think that these books are really set apart by their fun premise of having a real fairy and a human join forces to solve murders (although, that's not their literal goal but what ends up happening due to circumstances). Again, the setting is great, and I'd love to visit a fairy garden shop like Courtney's someday. It's easy to imagine their quaint little town, and it's the perfect setting for a cozy mystery.
A magical read sprinkled with mystery. This latest installment takes up right back to fairy gardens, enchantment, and a thrilling mystery that keeps you guessing. A perfect story to curl up with.
Another wonderful book in the series. I love the fairies and their mythical world. However, a crime solving fairy? Completely novel! This book was fantastic. The writing was solid. The plot was interesting and the characters were great. I loved everything about this book. I cannot recommend it enough. Such a fun idea to this book!
Glimmer of a Clue is the second title in Daryl Wood Gerber's Fairy Garden Mystery series.
When strong minded, arrogant, opinionated Lana Lamar is found murdered during the Carmel Spectacular with Wanda Brownie clutching the murder weapon, it is obvious to Courtney Kelly that she and her righteous fairy, Fiona, have to clear Wanda and find the real murderer. In between fairy garden construction classes. Courtney, her friends and fairies investigate the many suspects, clues and red herrings while trying not to incur the wrath of Dective Summers who is in charge of the case. Well crafted story in a series that is improving with age. Kudos for the reference to the "San Francisco bookbinder", Death Overdue for the library book discussion and recipes written as "regular" and gluten free. All that is needed are sketches of some of the fairy gardens Courtney makes . A winner! Received this ebook from NetGalley and Kensington Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book for an honest review from netgalley

I wish that I had read the first book in this series but it was amazing and magical the characters were fun and the mystery unique.
fairies, small-business, small-town, family-dynamics, friendship, murder, murder-investigation, amateur-sleuth, situational-humor, verbal-humor*****
If you like the idea of friendly fairies helping to solve a cozy mystery, you'll love this! No problem figuring out who the victim will be. The murderer not so much! The characters are fun, the investigation twisty, and the red herrings surprising. I enjoyed the afternoon I spent reading it.
I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley.
I have to say I Loved This Book. I haven't read the first one but that did not hinder the story at all for me. I have ordered the first one and will be reading any and all in this series.
Courtney is the owner of a fairy garden/tea shop in Caramel, California. She teaches classes on how to make a fairy garden. Would love to have my own fairy garden. When her friend is a accused of murder she decides once again to be an amateur sleuth with the help of her fairy Fiona to solve the mystery.
This was an entertaining, whimsical read with enough twists and turns that had me turning the pages not wanting to put the book down.
The descriptions of Caramel-by-the-Sea and the shops had me picturing the places as I read. I love Fiona and her fairy friends.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read this book.
I received this ARC via Netgalley and Kensington Books, in return for an honest review. While the second book in this series, it is easily read as a standalone. Courtney Kelly owns a tea shop and fairy garden store, where she helps people create their own fairy gardens of all shapes and sizes. Courtney also has her own resident fairy, Fiona, who has been partially banished and has to earn her way back into the fairy court’s good graces. Only those who believe can see Fiona although she can, occasionally, impact those who don’t believe in her. When Courtney donates two large fairy gardens to a local charity gala, she’s horrified to find one of them figuring in the death of a local woman who didn’t lack for enemies. With few people having anything good to say about the murdered woman and an obvious suspect, Courtney knows that she and Fiona need to help before the wrong person is convicted of a crime they didn’t commit.
This is a lovely story set in a magical place, in Carmel, California. Courtney and her fellow shop keepers are supportive and engaging with each other and their customers. Each one has a different focus area and that allows lots of storylines to develop as the series progresses. Fun place to visit when you can’t travel in real life!
Set in Carmel, California the second book in a series where fairies are the norm. At least in Courtney’s world they are
This was so much fun to read to! A good sequel to the first book, but can be read as a stand alone too. Courtney Kelly, is the owner of a fairy-gardening and tea shop in Carmel, California. It's a special place brimming with good vibes, lush greenery, miniature fairy accessories, and soothing fountains; the perfect venue for book club teas and home to a cat named Pixie. But in Carmel-by-the-Sea, things aren't all sweetness and fairy lights. Things take a turn when Lana Lamar is found on the floor and stabbed with a decorative letter opener from Courtney’s fairy garden. There are some twists and suspense. Thank you to NetGalley, Kensington Publishing, and the author for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.
I'm not typically a person who reads magical stories - I tend to enjoy plots that are more realistic - but I love Daryl Wood Gerber's Fairy Garden Mystery series. It's the perfect light, cute reading for a global pandemic - it will get your mind off of the world's problems and you'll be immersed in a delightful, whimsical story.
Courtney Kelly owns a tea shop/fairy garden store called Open Your Imagination, in which she holds classes to teach people to make their own fairy gardens. (This really, really makes me want to have my own fairy garden!) I wish my own hometown had a store like this because I'd definitely shop there.
Courtney happens to have a fairy who hangs around her and her shop. Fiona got in a bit of trouble and now has to do good deeds and help people in order to regain all of her wings and fairy privileges. Most people cannot see fairies - only true believers can. Courtney's own father doesn't believe in it, though many of her customers are hoping to have the ability to see fairies.
When there's a murder at a charity gala, Courtney is one of the first people to see the body of Lana, a local art critic who seems to have enemies everywhere she turns. The biggest problem? The person who does find the body was recently seen in public in a heated argument with the victim. But she swears she didn't commit the crime and doesn't even know how she found the body. She claims she was sleepwalking.
Courtney knows she needs to try to solve the crime because the police don't listen to her theories so they're looking in the wrong places. The biggest problem is the sheer number of people who strongly disliked Lana. Only one person in town - the librarian - seems to have anything good to say about her.
The stories in the Fairy Garden Mystery series give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. It's refreshing to read something so whimsical and cute. I figured out who the killer was, but that happened right before Courtney herself figured it out. This is a wonderful cozy that will take the reader's mind off the bad things happening in the world right now. I love the series, the setting of the shop, and I'm going to get series about making my own fairy garden - I'm inspired!
Excellent second book in this new series by Daryl Wood Gerber! Excellent character-building of strong women who support one another. Great mystery that kept me guessing to the end. I love how Fiona, the fairy is changing and growing. Lots of twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat! Gerber is an amazing storyteller and I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series.
Courtney Kelly used work for her father as a landscape gardener until she decided to leave all that behind and open her own business. So, Open Your Imagination, a fairy garden tea shop in Carmel, California was born and life seemed perfect. Then Courtney's best friend Meaghan's mother is arrested for murder and she knows she has to prove her innocence, after all her dad was a cop before he was a gardener so investigation is in her blood!
Keeping her flourishing business going as well as investigating Wanda's case takes up a lot of time, especially as the victim Lana wasn't liked very much by anyone. Carmel-by-the-Sea has a secret though, one only a few can access; fairies live there including Courtney's very own Fiona, who is more than willing to help. All the evidence seems to point at Wanda and ,as she too thoroughly disliked Lana Lamar, proving her innocent is looking more difficult by the minute.
I have to admit not knowing if this would really appeal or not especially as I hadn't read the first book in the series but I was very pleasantly surprised. It is an easy read and the fact that Courtney works alongside a probationary fairy and takes her cat to work every day didn't even register after a few chapters! In fact I wish there was a shop near me where I could make a fairy garden, with or without the help of sprites!
The book has a lot of food related activities: restaurant visits, picnics, late night snacks to name a few and at the end of the book are ten recipes from the story with gluten free options wherever possible. The first chapter of the third book is also included and I will definitely be on the look out for that as well.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a fun, relaxing and recommended read.
