Fun and entertaining, I enjoyed this a lot and will be recommending the series and continue reading novels by Ms Spencer. Very nice!
I'm afraid that the reason for me reading this book is completely due to the gorgeous cover.
I have not (yet) the first in the series. I have no doubt that I have missed a few facts from this but it did not diminish my enjoyment of this book at all. I shall be searching out the first in the series and any further.
I would like to thank Kensington Books through NetGalley fir a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
This is a fun historical fiction novel. It is the second book in the series. I highly recommend reading the first novel before this one.
It starts off with Eva de Courtney kidnapping Goodrich Fleming. The banter between these two characters is amazing!! I loved their misadventures and adventures.
This is a great book for someone who loves romance with fun mixed in.
First of all, isn't this cover so beautiful!?! I'm in love with it!
This is the second book in the series. I haven't read the first book, but I still enjoyed this one! I loved the characters and the fun situations they are in! The steam factor was high, and it was great!
It’s like a comedy of errors right from the beginning of the story. It starts off hilarious especially when Godric and Eva are riding towards the Scottish border. But as we get further into the story, we delve more into the history of Godric who is more of an anti-hero and was almost a villain in the previous book with Gabriel, "Notorious". There is heartbreak, there is action, and a beautiful and romantic story between Eva and Godric. I am still not sure what happened to Godric's family and would have liked more closure on their history. I loved Eva's character who is strong, brave, and doesn't mince words. It was a delightful story and I could not put it down. I would recommend this book. This is book two of The Rebels of the Ton series.
I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review*
First of all let me say that I absolutely love these covers. The stories both Book 1 and this one absolutely sealed the deal for me and Ms. Spencer has quickly become one of my go to historical authors. Hats off to Eva for taking matters into her own hands and kidnapping Godric Fleming before he can kidnap her beloved sister-in-law. Between the sparkling witty conversation and the shenanigans of kidnapper and kidnapped the story moves along at at great clip.
Godric Fleming has finally come to his senses and decided against his outrageous plan to kidnap the wife of another man when he himself is kidnapped with his hands and feet bound and bundled in a carriage heading out of London. While both parties have vowed for different reasons never to marry, Godric quickly understands that he is alone in a carriage with a young unmarried woman of quality and only marriage will do. The cut and thrust of the sparkling conversation will keep you enthralled until the very end.
As if they didn't have enough problems between them, they are held at gunpoint by displaced soldiers turned highway men. Turns out some of the men are familiar with Godric and his illustrious career in the army and have their own personal vendetta against him which makes for some interesting twists and turns in the story. Despite Godric's involvement the true star of the story is Eva.
Eva, who despite her worldly appearance and conversation is actually a true innocent at heart who adores her step mother and step brother even as she has a difficult adversarial relationship with her father. Yet it is this same father who comes to her rescue when all seems lost and is fully supportive of her unorthodox desire for her future. This relationship dynamic added a nice touch to the overall story.
Definitely need to read Book 1 before reading this one but both are absolutely delightful. I love meddling families and retainers.
OUTRAGEOUS is the second book in Minerva Spencer’s “Rebels of the Ton” series. Since reading the first book in this series, I have been eager to read the next installment featuring Eva de Courtney. At the time, Eva seemed like such a fascinating character. In OUTRAGEOUS, Minerva Spencer doesn’t disappoint. Readers should read the previous book before reading this one, because it picks up right where the other one ended, and it establishes some relationships and character motivations. In NOTORIOUS, Godric Fleming appeared to be the de facto villain. In the opening of OUTRAGEOUS, Godric is abducted by Eva and gets a little karmic payback for his shenanigans in the previous book. Excellent! What could be more delicious?
Most of this book is a story set “on the road” or on the run to some degree. Initially, Eva is running away with Godric to prevent him from causing her friends any more trouble, then Godric is turning the tables and essentially running away with Eva, before they are both trying to outwit and outmaneuver a band of shady characters. I don’t always enjoy stories set on the move with the characters’ day-to-day living situation in flux, but I really enjoyed reading OUTRAGEOUS. The characters are everything in this book and make it so entertaining. Because of her mother, Eva has a reputation as rare beauty but who might go mad like her mother. Eva doesn’t bother trying to refute any wrong impressions of her, but it does bug her on some level. A particular sore spot is anybody thinking that any future children she might have could be mad also. With Godric, Eva finds a good verbal sparring partner. The snarky flirtation (my favorite kind) and the sexual tension is something to behold. Because these characters are quick to conceal their deeper feelings, I’m glad that OUTRAGEOUS is told from alternating perspectives so that readers get a better understanding of who they are and how they feel.
OUTRAGEOUS is a thrilling mix of romance and adventure with two dynamic and unforgettable characters. Minerva Spencer does a great job of balancing the romance with the action and adventure. This ending is a satisfying conclusion for the characters and everything they’ve been through. At the very end, there are teases about who future stories could involve. I look forward to Minerva Spencer’s next “Rebels of the Ton” book.
I am a big fan of Romance books and I found this one to be a very enjoyable read. I will be looking for more books from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a highly entertaining novel- it felt very much like the novel version of a summer blockbuster, and it works so well! I loved that while the romance very much is present, there is a fair amount of action and even a few mysteries. The only thing I would have changed is that the same thing happens a few times, so I had to go back and check to see if I had read incorrectly. In any case, a great deal of fun!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It took me a while to finish this book. I like period pieces and the characters are fun in their own way, but the arguing felt a little tedious after a while. The intimate scenes are well done and adequately descriptive.
I'm glad it was a happy ending eventually, but it felt like it took too long for it to happen.
I am a lover of romantic novels! This one did justice to the time period while accurately portraying a “taming” narrative. Very impressed with the writing supported in the book.. and want to meet supporting characters in other volumes

First of all, I loved the fact she was a badass troublemaker yet vulnerable. Also, love to argue. I loved the bond she had with her brother and sister-in-law, stepmother and father as well as James. It was amazing. Everyone was supportive of her dreams.
Dislike :
- I wanted to see Godric and Eva in a marital relationship or them with their baby. I loved the epilogue but this should've included as well.
What a fun road trip romance. The second book in the Rebels of the Ton series did not disappoint. I think I may have enjoyed this even more than the first book because you just are dropped into the action immediate and it doesn't slow down until the end. It was actually eye opening to see what Visel's motivations had been - It seems almost imperative that the reader have at least a minimum amount of knowledge of what happened in the first book to appreciate the revelations in the second. I think this book could absolutely function as a stand alone - however reading the first book will provide a more full picture of the characters of Eva and Godrick.
I normally don't like to read books that have a large age gap in characters - but Minerva threads the needle here well enough for me. Eva felt older than her 19 years and Godrick felt younger than his 36...they somehow met in the middle.
This romance hit all the right notes for me with a good amount of adventure - excellent dialogue and characters that were endearing and interesting.
This is the second book in Author Minerva Spencer’s Rebels of the Ton series and it was a adventurous tale from beginning to end. The MCs in this installment are Eva de Courtney and Godric Fleming, we met these two previously in Notorious , and now we get their full story. In Notorious both of these characters are portrayed in a slightly mysterious way, with Eva enduring her first season amongst The Ton and Godric being involved in some very shady dealings. These two are both very emotional characters and neither of them seem to think before they act. It’s an erratic beginning to their story with more than half of the book involving them traveling from London to Scotland for a shotgun wedding.
I am a little hesitant to say that I found myself skimming through a lot of this story. I found the journey from London to northern England to be a little tedious, it seemed to stretch out forever, with no real reason. Did we really need to have days of repetitive rain? Why did there need to be a group of bandits, some off kilter inn owners, and a fighting scene? The only thing good about the trip was Eva & Godric’s slow burn. I just found the entire first half of the book stretched beyond need and would have enjoyed it more succinctly portrayed.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a story with smokin’ hot sex scenes…then look no further. This author knows how to make her characters sizzle between the sheets!
I will be reading the next story in the series and I am eager to see if the author shows us how the couples from books one and two are doing…I feel like we never got a true HEA for either couple.
Overall, this was a good book. A little slow at times with some unnecessary baggage but it was enjoyable.

Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
Unfortunately I had to DNF this book around 40 percent. I wanted to like it. I love historical romances, but this just wasn’t for me.
The writing style and characters left a lot to be desired in my opinion. I found I had to push myself to keep reading. I could see people really liking this! Just not a book I enjoyed.
WooHoo! Finally done!
This is the continuation story of one of Mia's stepdaughter. And I like so much these kind of story from other perspective.
So Eva, the second daughter of Marques of Exley, abducted Godric Flemming, who had a problem with her step brother. But the journey made both of them discovered more of each other and then fell in love inevitably. Seems mundane, but this is Minerva Spencer's work. So prepare yourself for unusual romance in unusual way. Ms Spencer knows very well where to twist, and unlikely any other romance books I ever read, she even made distinguished characters who teased us to read more.

Lady Eva de Courtney is determined to put a stop to the torment her brother has been facing at the hands of Godric Fleming, Earl of Visel, even if it means kidnapping the man. Unfortunately, once Eva has her brother’s nemesis bound in her carriage, she notices an inconvenient attraction to the passionate nature he is so obviously keeping under wraps. Worse still, her plan is left in shambles when Godric gains the upper hand and becomes her kidnapper instead, insisting they must be married immediately to stave off scandal.
Godric has no interest in marrying, much less marriage to Eva, but he can’t deny his attraction to her spitfire nature. His past experiences have taught him that love is too painful to dabble in, but he must do the honorable thing for her, no matter how much Eva resists the infringement on her independence. Their travels to the Scottish border are plagued with dangerous incidents, but the biggest struggle is keeping their hands to themselves and their feelings unengaged.
I finished this book a few days ago but I’m still not sure how I feel about it. The ending was satisfying, but the road to get there was fraught and one of my pet peeves, the third act separation, was employed, to my annoyance. That said, this plot device made sense here, but the length of separation was rather too long for me. Nevertheless, that personal tic was not my biggest issue here, but rather the characters themselves. I don’t mind an age-gap romance, but it was hard to believe the romantic aspect when Godric continually referred to Eva as an infant and she was so childish in her behavior much of the time that it was hard to fault him. Her penchant for flying into fits of temper got old fairly quickly, as did the childish arguments she insisted on with such frequency. I wound up liking Godric in the end when he finally let his guard down and confided his past hurts in Eva, but it was a hard-won thing. Despite my issues with these MCs, however, I very much appreciated the character growth we saw from both of them over the course of the story, though I’m not sure either of them would’ve put things to right without the help of their friends. By the end, the love story was fairly believable, but much of the book was focused on the lust of their physical attraction and there wasn’t enough honest communication to make the foundation of their love strong. Overall, the writing was good, the steamy scenes well-crafted, and the action entertaining, but I wanted more communication between the MCs and among the other characters as well.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved Eva’s story. She has such sass!! I would’ve liked a touch more of their love story. A quick read with fun characters. Historical fiction isn't usually for me but I loved the first two of this series. The beautiful covers sold me and then I met the people in the stories and fell in love
London 1816
A kidnapping gone wrong, adventure, an unlikely pair, laugh out loud moments, along with witty banter and a sizzling attraction! This story has it all!
Godric Fleming was in trouble (he was the villain in the first book!) Yes he had devised a plan to make Gabriel pay, but the more he thought about it, what was he doing? It seemed he had been on the wrong path and needed to get his head straight. Unfortunately, He was the one kidnapped by none other than Gabe's sister Eva!
Eva was determined to thwart Godric's plans to harm her brother so took matters into her own hands. She would kidnap him and make him leave her brother alone. Brilliant plan? Oh no... it seemed it backfired!!
Such a fun journey to a happy ever after with all the trappings of a great romance!
