The characters are memorable, the imagery clear, and the hooker book club (crocheting) is a gas.
Nice balance between situational and verbal humor to keep both the suspense and the family issues from getting too tight. Very enjoyable read.
I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Crooked Lane Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
Great story line with well developed characters and an unexpected twist at the very end.
Love the ideas for crochet projects and the pattern included.
I was so happy to get another Betty Hechtman book. I really enjoy them. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of One for the Hooks in exchange for an honest review. Molly Pink comes home to the doors open and lights on in her house. Its her oldest son Peter, who usually wants nothing to do with his mom. Molly works at Shedd & Royal Books and More. Her oldest son Peter and his pregnant girlfriend move in as everything fell apart for them. They could've asked Molly first , but just showed up instead. Molly has started a crochet group called Hookers at the Bookstore and learned how to crochet. Molly is looking at some yarns that a lady is trying to sell. A drone comes overhead and drops something onto another lady. Somehow she dies, what happened?
Betty Hechtman is a great story writer. Anyone interested in bookstores, yarn stores, and corny mysteries will enjoy this book. I have most of Betty Hechtman's books and have enjoyed all of them, especially the crochet patterns and a great recipe.
Reasonable 'Miss Marple' type storyline. Bit twee for my liking.
Some of the formatting was wrong, which I found distracting (eg several chapters seemed to have page width set too long so the sentences were broken up in the middle, along with other errors - looked like poor proof reading).
Did make me think about starting to crochet though!
I just wanna say I knew it! I knew it all along! Not the mystery, but the other thing. But also, I knew it had to be who it was who did the killing. That said, this is a good addition to the series.
Molly Pink is approached by a realtor who is cleaning out a home to purchase a large lot of yarn. When she goes back to pick it up, the realtor dies in a freak accident when she is attacked by a drone.
Thinking it is nothing more than a prank by neighbors who are unhappy that the homeowner plans to rent rooms out to strangers, the police are ready to move on. Molly, however, believes the realtor was the target, not the homeowner. Now she has to bring together multiple threads and pieces of information to figure out who wanted the woman dead and why.
Another fun entry in this long running series that brings crochet projects and recipes along with the whodunit. Well written with a strong protagonist, you can’t help but relate to Molly and the Hookers.
This book was fun to read. It contained elements of suspense, humor and romance. This is my first Molly Pink cozy mystery, and I look forward to reading more. I did find a few errors in the book, though ( such as left out words and typographical errors). I highly recommend this book to other cozy mystery readers.
One for the Hooks by Betty Hechtman.
This is a new author to me and I am instantly in love with her work. I understand that there is more books to this series, but it was easy to fall in with the characters.
The story was easy and uncomplicated as were the characters. There is a group of women in a crochet group but Molly is a modern Sherlock Holmes who can’t stop until the end. Barry is a detective and also Molly’s ex and Mason is dating Molly and in love with her but wants her to, in a nutshell to give up her life to be with him.
But, the ending was a shocker and I was not expecting what happened.
I am now looking into reading this series from the beginning.
Molly searches for clues to solve the murder in order to help a former boyfriend, Barry, solve a murder. She has help with her hooker bookclub members. Her love life gets complicated because of her feelings for Barry and her feelings for her new boy friend, Mason. She also has to deal with her son, Peter, and his girlfriend who move into her house with asking. Lots of things going on in this story to keep your interest.
There is nothing I enjoy better than reading a book in this series by Betty Hechtman. Molly Pink is a strong character who really brings these books to life.
In One for the Hooks, a simple inquiry about a potential purchase of yarn sets the dynamics for an incredible story.
Molly once again becomes involved in the investigation while assisting her ex boyfriend, Barry.
Molly seems to be doing a lot of soul searching, and even though she loves her life, her job, and her friends, she wonders if it’s time for a change.
The ending left me speechless, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good solid mystery.
I usually like this series but not this installment. Molly's son Peter is a complete jerk. It absolutely ruined the story for me. He treats her like crap and she just sits there and take it. Molly is usually a stronger character than that. I wanted her to bawl him out and kick him to the curb. He needs a serious smack.
