This was a cute little story to help teach kids about cultural differences and how to be a good person. My family is multicultural and my daughter loved the book. It has a great message and I'll definitely be recommending it to friends. The only thing is, I wish there was a pronunciation guide for the words in other languages, because even though the translation was provided, I had to skip over them or say it in English because I had no clue how to pronounce the words.
A Multicultural Picnic was a wonderful read and me, my nephew and my niece thoroughly enjoyed reading. We especially enjoyed that our own heritage (Ukrainian) was featured and they loved seeing the pictures of the traditional wear that they don every Ukrainian Christmas. Another fun feature is the ability to open the link to hear the correct pronunciation of the words of other languages.
Highly recommend for all children!
This book is the third in a series, and although I hadn’t read the first two, I enjoyed this one. There are many different cultures and languages presented in this story, I think it would be especially grew in a classroom with a lot of diversity; maybe students would be able to relate to a character or country they can relate to or recognize,
Thank you, author and the Publisher, for the copy.
This one is a fun, colourful read.
I find the multicultural background of the kids interesting.
The artstyle is basic and well done.
Would love to read more in this series.
This book was easy to read and one my family enjoyed.
Pros:
- The pictures are vibrant, well-drawn, and interested my kids.
- This book tackles big subjects (bullying and racial discrimination) in kid-friendly and understandable ways.
- The words in other languages are done in other colors and really pop on the page which prompted a great conversation with my kids.
Cons:
- The flow could be better.
- Some of the dialog feels a little choppy. For example, "His T-Shirt is beautiful and handmade. It's not something you can buy in a cheap store. And he can speak more languages than any of us, which is really cool. Please, leave us alone."
-The transition from bullying to a chicken being missing was abrupt and seemed out of place.
