Mallory has always tried to do what was expected of her so finding out her marriage is nothing but a life leaves her floundering. No income, no home, no husband but the house she inherited from her Great Aunt is exactly the lifeline she needs until she sees it and wonders if she will have a better chance of sinking than swimming.
Nick is her new neighbor who on hand makes her difficult life even more difficult but on the other hand helps her get through this rough patch. Once she gets past his bad-tempered persona, she learns a lot about not only him but herself as well.
This is a heartwarming story of self-discovery as Mallory becomes the woman she is meant to be and finds love along the way that shows her worth rather than brings her down. Humorous interactions, a slow building romance and relatable characters will draw you in and have you invested in the outcome.
You might be checking out this booķ, looking for a romance read, but with this one, you’ll get so much more! The devastation of a breąkup, finding oneself, and family dynamics shaken to their very foundation are a few of the heartfelt, compelling subjects included in this romance.
Mallory gave a decade of her life to her husband, helping to build his law practice, hąndling a diverse array of details that never cross the typical office manager’s desk. Then she catches her husband cheąting with his paralegal, and Mallory ends up losing everything. Adding insult to ınjury, Mallory finds out her favorite person in the world, and the only one who ever loved Mallory just as she is, has passed away. And Great-aunt Maggie has left her home in the suburbs to Mallory.
Mallory packs her bags, goes to the ‘burbs, and determines this will be the start to her new life. Until she sees the house no one has lived in for over year. A glorious old home that, sadly, looks like it should be demolished, has multiple HOA violations with ląrge fines looming, and packed full enough to be a hoarder’s dream home. With little money and thousands in repairs, Mallory is understandably overwhelmed. On top of all that, her first interaction with Mr. Tall, Handsome and Broody across the street is for him to order Mallory to cut the knee-high grass. Well, Mallory's nothing if not resourceful and has a few clever ways to deal with Nick Holloway.
I can’t tell you a lot about Nick without revealing too much, but he's actually a kind, compassionate man with a gıant heart of gold. If only Mallory can stop seeing Nick through the myopic view of her relationship with her ex.
One of these wrıters is new to me, but I’ve come to trust the other unequivocally with my romantic heart, and she delivers a phenomenal read once again. With perfectly flawed characters, exquisite manipulation of the reader's heartstrings, and laugh-out-loud, spew-your-drink hilarious moments, this one will strıke every note in the chord of your emotions and give you one of your very best romantic comedy reads of the year! Run to the 1-Click now and make sure you don’t miss it!
This was one fun, sweet, and endearing story because I felt Mallory and the things she was going through. I also felt her strength and determination and just couldn't put this down. I had so much fun reading. The HOA violations themselves just had me laughing so hard. This was one amazing, feel-good read.
Filled with snark and sass, plus lots of emotion and heart, Back in the Burbs was a fun read that had a touch of everything I love in a romance book!
Mallory was the exact type of lead I love in a book - she’s a bit of a mess but knows she has to pull up her big girl panties and straighten her life out. She’s smart, but also doesn’t take herself or life too seriously all the time. Nick was just perfect - his past has made him cautious of sharing his life, but underneath the grumpiness he displays at times he is a just a sweet guy who cares deeply about those who matter. I just loved all the banter between Nick and Mallory and how Nick just “got” her - but there was also such a sweetness between these two, especially when Nick would know exactly what Mallory needed when she herself often had no clue.
This book had such an amazing cast of characters. I think my favorites had to be Nick’s parents (which explained so much when we finally got to meet them!) I also enjoyed Mallory’s mother as she finds her way and helps Mallory redefine her past so she can move forward. There were so many great laugh out loud moments and the banter between everyone was frequent and funny, but somehow the authors were able to keep things real and did not let things get over-the-top.
This is one that should be on anyone’s TBR - whether you are in the mood to laugh out loud, sigh from emotion, or do a bit of both, this book will deliver all that and more!
Bottom line: This book is just a frigging delight!
Mallory is having a rough couple of months. She's getting divorced from her cheating husband, and now she's out of a job and a house. Then, her favorite great-Aunt Maggie died. The only good (and using the term loosely here) thing that's happened recently is that Aunt Maggie has left Mallory her home in the burbs. It's a bit of a fixer upper, but then again, so is Mallory.
While Mallory is getting kicked a bit while she’s down, this is still a really upbeat, feel-good book. It has both hilarious and emotional moments, and it has a quirky cast of characters: h-o-t contractors, grumpy-but-good looking neighbors, newly found friends and family, and a down-on-her-luck heroine that you'll root for. And even from the grave, Aunt Maggie is the same vibrant, hilarious, unexpected character that she was in life.
For those who want to know, kind of mid-range on the heat level. Great chemistry and sexual tension between our MC and her hero. And it's not closed door, but the sex scenes aren't super explicit.

The co-author team of Avery Flynn and Tracy Wolff was the perfect writting combination for this laugh out loud romantic comedy.
From the cast of characters to the writing, this book was just so much fun. An excellent romantic comedy filled with craziness, heart, and steam. At the end will leave you with the biggest smile on your face.
These two authors wrote this book seamlessly. From beginning to end I was laughing so much and it's been a long time since I've had fun reading.
This is a book you won't want to put down, you will fall for the misadventures of Mallory and the sweet grumpiness that is Nick. I promise you.

A huge thank you to Valentine PR and Netgalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my opinion and all opinions are my own.
I hadn't read any of Tracy Wolff or Avery Flynn's books before so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect although I do love Rom-Coms, and I can happily say I was so not disappointed and will definitely be looking into more of their books in the future.
I loved the writing style of the entire book, it was so fun and an incredible journey. I love how they incorporated romance, loads of humor and personal development together showing us that there's no age to "find yourself", you could be 18, 25 or a 30-something divorcée.
The characters! Where do I even begin? I loved Mallory's character and watching her grow from being dejected after everything she goes through in the beginning to the confident woman in the end. I think it was beautiful that she was so brave and determined despite everything she went through and not everyone can do it. I think Nick was perfect for her, they were meant for each other. A perfect fit. Where Mallory's life was a whirlwind and full of messes, Nick's was organized and...well, not messy, that's for sure!
It was such a fun journey, made me swoon over Mallory and Nick and laugh out loud way too many times. The humor was written so well, it didn't seem overdone like a lot of Rom-Coms and I just absolutely loved this book. A definite recommend for Rom-Com lovers and a five star read. ⭐️
I am no stranger to Avery's books, but not Tracy Wolff. I have never read anything by her before and I can honestly say there's nothing to distinct that it is written by two authors. The story line flowed nicely and the character development was well-written. Everything about Nick and Mallory's story was perfect. It was so much fun and sexy. I loved seeing Mallory growing her own backbone after her divorce. I hope we will get her half-sister's story. Overall this is a feel-good read.

So, I went into this book expecting a really cute romcom. That’s not exactly what I got. This was more of a family drama with a sprinkle of romance on the side. I’m not sure if the romance picks up at the end but I definitely felt a lack of romance for the beginning.
The book is well written. I love Avery Flynn and this is the first book I’ve read from Tracy Wolff but I definitely wouldn’t mind reading more from her!
During the first 25% we only briefly meet the male lead 2 times. We don’t learn his name until 30%. At the point I DNFed the book, our heroine has gone on 2 lackluster dates with another man and has only had a few moments with our male lead.
The majority of this book is our heroine broken hearted over her divorce, dealing with family drama, and cleaning out her hoarder aunt’s house. There are some moments that are funny and also some moments I really enjoyed. But overall I just couldn’t get into this book.
4 1/2
Back in in the Burbs by Avery Flynn and Tracy Wolff begins like a case of verbal diarrhea in which the narrator spews forth every thought she’s ever had in long unwieldy sentences that grow increasingly monotonous. At one point, I have may have rolled my eyes more than the characters with their kaleidoscope eyes.
And then something happened.
Mallory Martin. She stopped being a caricature of every rambling, somewhat spacy narrator that’s graced the pages of conversationally-styled novels in recent years and became more. She’s flawed but re-finding herself. She snarky but sensitive. She’s a realistic character warring with her feelings and slowly coming to terms with the fact that she lost herself, lost who she was, and needs to find that person. And as she does, our love for this character grows.
Tax lawyer Nick ranks right up there with some of my favorite book male main characters. He’s a good guy, always looking out for people, even people who may not deserve it. He will always be a good guy and there’s something wonderful about reading about a guy like this in a book world of Neanderthal-types.
As I read, I enjoyed. Laughed, cried, smiled. This feel-good book won me over and I will be first in line if Avery Flynn and Tracy Wolff pen another novel together.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When Mallory finds out about her soon to be ex-husband cheating, she needs to escape, and when her great-aunt Maggie passes away, she inherits her house, which gives her someplace to regroup and get her life back on track. Nick is gruff and hiding a huge heart and caring nature and is Mallory’s new neighbour. They both have emotional baggage, and the sparks fly between them, as time goes by their relationship develops from enemies / lovers. This is a well written flawless story which is fun, entertaining, humorous, heartwarming, and with emotions and witty banter, which had me hooked throughout this addictive page turner. This duo of authors has done a fantastic job with this collaboration, and I look forward to reading more from them, and I highly recommend their work.
Back in the Burbs was such an entertaining and witty read. It was light and fun and had me laughing my way through. There's a nice amount of angst and drama mixed in as well as a whole lot of heart. This was a wonderful story about moving on, finding your path, and going after what you want.
I loved Mallory. I immediately felt invested in where she was at in life and what she was going through. She had the best internal dialogue with funny self-deprecating humor. I loved Nick. He seemed so grumpy but underneath he's totally sweet and caring and I loved how he was there for her. With Mallory and Nick, it was a case of opposites attract and I loved the fun vibe and banter that happened from their dynamic. I liked their growing chemistry and there was a pretty fantastic slow burn happening.
I thought Mallory had excellent character development and a lot of personal growth. I loved learning about Nick and what a solid, genuine guy he was. There's a lot of tension thanks to her ex and her parents and there were several times I yelled at my Kindle because they stressed me out, but I loved what developed from all that and how they came out on the other side. I loved new friendships and relationships that were forged and how revelations and secrets were revealed.
I thought this was a great story but the beginning did feel a bit drawn out, but once I got to that place where everything connected, it was awesome and flowed well. I liked the build to it all and I loved the evolution of the battle Mallory was having with herself. While I thought this was super fun, there were some serious undertones to it and I thought it was all handled nicely. There's definitely a romance happening but the story did have Women's Fiction and Chick Lit vibes mixed in as well that I really enjoyed.
This was a witty, fun, and fast-paced read and I enjoyed it immensely. I loved Mallory figuring herself out and what she wants out of life, forging a new path, and as a bonus, finding love!
Catching your cheating spouse is bad enough, but when your separation means getting kicked out of your Manhattan apartment and losing your job in your husband’s law firm which you helped build from the ground up... well that’s just devastating.
Mallory returns to live with her parents at 35, but is thrown a life line when she finds out her Aunt left her a house in her will. Only problem? There is a tree which makes it a safety hazard to enter through the front door. The lawn has a wild grassland vibe and the inside? It’s even worse.
Hit with more notices from neighborhood HOA, than dollars in her bank account, Mallory must figure out how to save her beloved Aunt’s house and her new home.
Somehow this entire debacle in Back In The Burbs delivers laugh after laugh! The subplot of family entanglements adds an extra dimension of drama. The women are the heart of the story but the men... well the men are pretty amazing in their own right! Romance is a slow burn but oh my, when it finally happens the steam factor is high!
Definitively check out Back In The Burbs! Preferably with a cocktail!
I laughed a lot with this book and really enjoyed the witty banter. Nick is the uptight attorney who likes his life orderly and the suburbs to be kept tidy. Mallory is starting over after leaving her cheating ex-husband. She has a larger than life spirit much like her Aunt Maggie and I adored her. The heart of this book really lies in watching Mallory build her confidence and strength in herself. She was made to feel less by her ex-husband and with the new opportunity provided by Aung Maggie she can finally be herself. Nick is a true support for her and exactly what she needs to fully grow into her full potential. There are good laughs, twists and turns for an all around good read.
4.5 Stars ⭐️
I am a huge fan of Avery Flynn’s books and was over the moon when I heard about Back In The Burbs, written in collaboration with Tracy Wolff. There is just so much happening in this book that I don’t even know where to start.
Mallory is in her thirties and separated. Her ex trying very hard to screw her over and out of what is rightfully hers after a decade of marriage. He is a douche canoe of the first order. My heart went out to her because unfortunately, I’ve known several women who have been in similar situations and it is horrible. After her dear aunt leaves her her house, Mallory decides to grab life by the horns and make it work. Dear aunt Maggie was a hoarder and Mallory has her work cut out for her.
In the middle of all this crazy enters, sexy as sin, neighbor Nick. I adored sexy suit wearing, plant whisperer, Nick, so much. He was a treat and watching Mallory shake up this man’s world was so much fun. As profound as her effect on him was, his on hers, was even more. Watching Mallory and Nick fall slowly in love despite everything standing in their way, made this an unputdownable romance read.
(Full Disclosure - this book is written from Mallory’s POV only, I would have loved if it included Nick’s POV as well).
Mmmm, I'm just going to sum this up to that this isn't quite the the book for me. This felt a bit like women's fiction and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, just not a genre I read too often.
I struggled a lot with the heroine and yet, I loathed what her ex put her through. She definitely had a lot to work through and honestly didn't think she was ready to jump into a relationship. As frustrating as I got with her, many could relate to her and what she was going through. Her relationship with her parents played a huge role of her insecurities and skewed view of what a great relationship looks like.
And that's where Nick comes in, I liked him a lot. He probably made the book for me. He knew what he wanted especially when it came to Mallory. However, she didn't treat him the best.
As a romance, it's not bad, alot of frustration when it comes to the heroine. But as a women's fic, I think many would like this one.
It's definitely well written and these two make quite the writing pair!
I really enjoyed this book, my first from Tracy Wolff but I’m a die-hard Avery Flynn fan. The characters ran the gamut for me, from loathsome to love him, which is exactly what I expect a good story to have...great people, total jerks and maybe a hot mess.
Mallory is that hot mess and she was all over the place. I think she was one of those characters you either love/accept for what she is or can’t stand. I understand why she was like she was, but I honestly wanted to shake her a few times.
Most seasoned romance or women’s fiction readers (which this book could be categorized as) know the hero when he’s introduced onto the page, so I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say I loved Nick from his first gruff and grumpy appearance. Although, I do hope Mikey gets his own gal! Nick was often much more likable than Mallory, at least to me.
I absorbed this book in one sitting and was sad when it was over. That, to me, is the sign of a good book!
Back in the Burbs is an easy to read, likeable, entertaining story with fun characters.
The collaboration of the two authors worked extremely well and I look forward to reading more from them both.
Mallory has inherited her aunts house but when she actually goes to look at it, she’s in for the shock of her life. Needless to say meeting the neighbor and his HOA issues, rubs her the wrong way. She starts to learn she can defend herself and get her life in some sort of order by standing her ground and doing. She has a lot on her plate for sure, but with some support and a lot of cleaning out at her aunts house, now hers, the journey we are sent on is nothing short of entertaining. Can she let go of her past and look toward a happy and promising future? Who will help her in her efforts?
I thoroughly enjoyed this storyline, it was refreshing, lighthearted and just wonderful. Go 1-click. You wont be sorry!
