“This suspenseful page-turner bares our assumptions of strangers. Who we believe without judgment and who we judge without believing. A story about privilege, family, identity, the need for belonging and the destruction caused by secrets..”
Oh boy did this one keep me up reading until the wee hours of the morning. I honestly could picture this being a made for TV movie. Following you by Eva Lesko Natiello is a surprise wrapped up in a very pretty book that will have you questioning everything from the start. We have three important characters in the book.
1. Shae, is a host on a popular television shopping channel and while she is very outgoing on tv she is the complete opposite in her regular life. She has a stalker but he has been caught.
2 Honey who is running from a painful past and is struggling to make ends meet while helping her mother until she died. Now she is saving money and has been staying at her mothers home but that won’t last too long.
3.Lawrence, he is obsessed with Shae and it has consumed him to the point that she is all he thinks about.
On New Year’s Day Shae is headed to a party but ends up at the wrong place at the wrong time. This is something that she never expected and is forced to make a decision but the decision she makes will cost her. Shae is missing and no one knows where she is except for one person. But that person has no plans to tell any time soon. Her adoring fans get together to find her but they do not have a starting point because she is so secretive about her life away from the television show. However, once they start searching for her, there are secrets that start to unravel.
All three are hiding something but only two are lying. This was not necessarily a psychological thriller but more on the gory horror side yet still a book that keeps you guessing. I was engrossed and wanted Shae to be ok but then as the book went on, you realize that everyone is not exactly who you think they are. The author has done a brilliant job at bringing all of the characters together and allowing the reader to decide what they think is happening without giving away too many clues. The ending is a heart stopper.
5 out of 5 stars
Three characters POV make up this seriously dark thriller. There’s Shae, Lawrence & Homey — all three completely different people who have no ties to eachother in the beginning of the book. Lawrence gave me the creeps right from the beginning. This is a twisty read.
I've read a lot of different type of stalker books. However, Following You isn't just a "stalker book". It's so much more. The twists throughout are awesome and definitely grab your attention. However, I feel like the ending left me wanting more answers. Not everything was explained and that's super frustrating when reading a thriller.
Overall, the plot and characters held their own. It was a good quick read, but it could have wrapped everything up a bit better.
I was excited for following you and I was enjoying it at first but then it felt like it suddenly got too slow to keep my attention. I tried to finish it after stepping away for awhile but I never found myself drawn back in.
I wasn’t sure about the character of lawrence when i started because he was a bit of a creep. But i figured it was to add to the story and it did at first but then it seemed like all characters just lost momentum in the story. Honey and Shay were the only reason I tried to finish the story but once their chapters started to feel slow and bogged down I had to mark it as a DNF.
Overall this story just felt like it wasn’t for me. I need more of a consistent pace in a psychological suspense and not this slow of a build up.
Great book. Highly recommend and will most defiantly read more by this author and suggest to others!
I will say from the start, I don’t think this was the book for me. What I expected from this especially after just a few chapters in and how things ended up playing out, was widely different. I expected a creepy stalkerish book similar to You, and I definitely got those vibes from the start. But it did not go that route, it took such an unexpected twist about halfway through.
Just from the vibes, we were given from the summary and how things initially started out at the beginning of the book, I was a little disappointed in how things played out. I expected a completely different story.
And while I was glad it wasn’t predictable, I struggled to follow the storyline at times. The timeline felt a bit all over the place constantly jumping. Plus, I did kind of miss that creepy stalkerish vibe that we got at the beginning. Which we practically lost that completely in the middle, just for it to be brought back unexpectedly in the end. But when it came back, it no longer truly fit in my opinion.
However, the story we do get was still interesting to follow. I found the pacing went well and it flowed easily, I didn’t find myself bored. Even when I struggled with the timeline, I still wanted to keep reading and figure out what the heck was going on. Although it didn’t play out as I had hoped, I still enjoyed the story to an extent. I found the characters interesting to follow, they all seemed very questionable and a bit unreliable. I was curious to see how things would end for each of them.
I think if you enjoy light thrillers that has questionable characters, then definitely consider picking this one up!
This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Very captivating with amazing character development. A wrong turn on the way to a party and following the wrong car leads the head of iShop to the wrong house party and a series of unfortunate events. This book is so full of twists and turns I was shocked at the end. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Two young women .. one seems to have it all ... one seems to have nothing.
Shae --- A sort of influencer with millions of friend .. online. In real life not many at all. What she does have is a stalker .. again. Or is it the same one that's never been caught?
Honey --- A waitress saving to go to college. Has recently been taking care of her mother until she died. Now she's staying in a house that isn't hers knowing she's going to be tossed out before too long.
And then there's Lawrence ... the less said about him right now is enough.
All three are hiding something ... but only two of them are lying.
BOOK BLURB: This bares our assumptions of strangers. Who we believe without judgment and who we judge without believing. A story about privilege, family, identity, the need for belonging and the destruction caused by secrets.
How can you trust your instincts when they turn out to be wrong?
This was a real slow starter for me .... didn't particularly like the characters. The suspense is low key and I found it hard to follow. I'm disappointed ... I really wanted to like this one.
Many thanks to the author / Fine Line Publishing / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This is the first book I read from this author and it won’t be the last. I’ve started reading it without high expectations, but it surprised me in every aspect. The plot is well developed, the twists unexpected and the characters believable. Every single element of a gripping thriller.
I could not put this book down! So many twists and turns that I did not see coming. Compelling and well-written, would definitely recommend!
I loved Eve Lesko Natiello's first book, The Memory Box and was so excited to get a chance to read Following You. Thank you to the author, Netgalley and publisher for the e-copy.
Following You is a different take on the stalker & obsession genre that had me quickly turning the pages to find out what happened next.
Our three main players are:
Shae- a host at IShop, (fictionalized QVC) who seems to have it all, but is full of insecurities and family secrets
Lawrence - totally obsessed with Shae. Totally creepy in every way and every part of his life
Honey- a young woman struggling to make ends meat, take care of her dying mother and get the money to go back to college
How do these three people's lives come together? While, you will have to read the book to find that out! I liked how the author gave us their perspectives in real time, increasing the tension. I especially enjoyed Lawrence (TOTAL CREEP) and Shae's POVs. I struggled at times to keep track of what was happening with Honey and some of her actions were hard to understand and for me, her parts took away from the meat of the book. Total personal preference.
There are a lot of secondary characters and plotlines in this book (hello red herrings) which sometimes felt a bit chaotic. I would have loved more backstory into Shae and Lawrence (I guess i like creepy characters :) ) I could totally have read a book just about Lawrence because you KNOW there even more creepiness there.
I look forward to seeing what Natiello does next! If you like obsession stories with a side of creep, look at adding this to your TBR.
3.5
I love everything this author writes. This didn't disappoint. It was and edge of my seat thriller. They were parts that I didn't like and thought about skipping them but I didn't thank you for allowing me to preview this book. I am very happy I read it
3 for neutral. Unfortunately, I could not finish this book. I tried, at first I thought I would enjoy, big eventually I just had to DNF it. Will update if able to finish at a later date!
I thought it was going to be a totally different book based on the first chapter. The first chapter with the POV from Lawrence made me feel so uncomfortable in the way that he described things. He came off as this creep, and that holds up to the end, but not as intense throughout. There were clearly three different POVs since they were divided into those characters, but I didn't like that they were all still in the third person. I was originally interested in the book based on the cover, it is very pretty, I wanted to know if there was a butterfly connection in the story and I loved that it was classified as a thriller, so I wanted to read more. Once I finished the first chapter, every time I picked up the book again, I just wanted to put it back down. There were so many times that I just wanted to DNF, but I really hate doing that. I always push myself to finish it so I can make sure sure it was worth the read, but I kind of wish that I wouldn't have picked it up in the first place. After the first couple chapters, I checked with Goodreads to see what their ratings were, and I was surprised that there were a lot of 4 and 5-star ratings, so it made me want to keep going to see what all the hype was all about, but it was definitely overrated.
This book had potential but ultimately fell short. Not sure if having read a stalker influencer book recently that was not good influenced my review but the characters were lackluster. I didn’t care for any of them but I did finish the story. It was well written the characters just needed to be more well rounded
This one sucked me in from the first chapter with the creepy detective Lawrence. I really thought this was going to be a traditional stalker novel, but it wasn't. It honestly took some time for me to adjust my expectations before I was able to get back on track with the plot. No one and nothing is what they seem and it kept me guessing what would happen next. Great writing, and I enjoyed how it wrapped up at the end.
Thank you @netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Wow. I actually had to take a few hours before I could still down and put my thoughts into words. Following You was not at all what I expected. From the very first page I thought it was going to be your typical creepy stalker story, it was not. First there is Shae, a home shopping channel style host with a stalker, then there is Lawrence who works for the local police department and is obsessed with Shae. Finally, there is honey, a girl with a big heart that keeps getting her in trouble. All three are hiding secrets that will change the course of each other’s lives. Alternating between the three main characters, I was on the edge on my seat until the very end. While it’s clear from early on things are not going end well for anyone but I definitely did not see the ending coming! 🤯

17. Following You by Eva Lesko Natiello is what you need to read if you want a suspenseful, fast paced thriller.
It’s New Year’s Eve. Shae Wilmont, the adored celebrity host of IShop—a popular shopping site—is ready to reclaim her life. Her stalker has been caught. But en route to a party, a harrowing encounter lands her in the wrong place at the wrong time. She’s forced to make a split-second decision. She trusts her gut—it’s a devastating mistake.
Only one person knows where she ends up. It’s where no one can find her.
Shae’s stunned fans quickly galvanize to track her down. Yet the charismatic Shae they know, who delivers digital intimacy to viewers who’ll buy anything she sells, off camera is an enigma—private and strangely insecure—unable to let anyone get close. When startling personal secrets are exposed during the investigation, the paradox of Shae begins to unravel.
In this dark psychological suspense, the lives of three strangers collide irreversibly. Honey, a displaced Southern girl who flees a painful past, is fiercely protective of her new friends at the expense of her own safety, derailing her new life in California,. Creepy Lawrence, a Detective Bureau fast-tracker with a penchant for latex gloves and a perverse obsession with Shae. And Shae, with millions of fake friends but hardly a real one. All three are hiding something, but only two of them are lying.
This suspenseful page-turner bares our assumptions of strangers. Who we believe without judgment and who we judge without believing. A story about privilege, family, identity, the need for belonging and the destruction caused by secrets.

Loved this! So good, so exciting, so gripping and great story. Can't wait to read more by this author - absolutely brilliant.
This is a good story for readers that enjoy social media and the possible ramifications of it! This is a psychological thriller that had me on the edge of my seat! I thought there were some parts that slowed the overall pace of the story down, and I would lose interest a bit. However, much of it was still compelling and extremely captivating! It's full of twists and surprises, which I love!
