Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. I love Tilly's writing and I couldn't wait for this story.
This book is about more than falling in love. It's about family and friendship. Posy is very conscious that her adoptive family are not being replaced by her birth family. Posy is a sweet, kind-hearted woman. She is quite selfless. She takes redundancy so that others who need the job more can stay. She offers to help Lachlan with no expectations of anything in return.
Asa was a great character. He has such a fun personality. There are some really low moments for Asa and those were really hard to read. I also loved Marella. She really brings out the fun side of Posy.
Lachlan is a real tourtoured soul. He's a gruff hottie. I just wanted to wrap him up and tell him it will all be okay. I wanted to tell him he can let it all out.
This book is a real feel-good story. It was a welcome escape from real life. Grab yourself a cuppa and snuggle down for a great read!
The protagonist, Posy, seeks to reconnect with her family of origin. When she finds out she’s adopted, she goes to visit her uncles who own an orchard in the small town of Astercombe.
The author included beautiful descriptions of the orchard, the vineyard and the surrounding countryside.
While the story explores the relationships of Posy with her adoptive family and her birth family, it also features a slow burn romance with the neighbouring vineyard owner, Lachlan.
The author has the ability to create characters that manage to sneak into your heart – Posy and her adoptive Mom, for instance, others that somehow irritate you and some that grow on you, like, Lachlan.
Another sweet read from this author.
This is my first Tilly Tennant book.
The characters were funny and the story was well written.
It is set in an Englidh Town in Somerset. Its beautifully described.
This is a lighthearted read which everyone should read.
Adopted as a baby, Posy discovers the birth family she never knew. After she loses her job in London, she travels to Somerset to spend a few weeks with them while she regroups. Though she falls in love with the apple orchard and ciderworks owned by her uncles, she senses that family secrets lurk beneath the surface. And why can't she get Lachlan, their mysterious neighbor, out of her mind?
I enjoyed the characters and the storyline in this women's fiction. It's more of a family saga than a romance. The romance plot was fairly thin—Posy and Lachlan mainly share some grumpy words and longing looks for the first 80% of the novel. But the rest of the plot was interesting enough to carry the story.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. I loved that although it was a predominantly happy story it wasn't all chocolate box and sweetness. There was lots of different things happening with a lovely storyline entwined
I received an ARC from Bookouture through NetGalley for an honest review. Posy is going to meet her birth family but until a few weeks ago the family didn't know she existed. None of them know what to expect when she and her Mum arrives. The first visit was kind of awkward, but she went back and things started getting better.
Her biological family and the neighbors started warming up to her, and we read the ups and downs, and the learning that takes place. It isn't easy, and it takes all of them to give a little. There were setbacks, but the people never gave up, they just kept moving forward. When you open your heart things can begin to fall into place.
Brilliant book. I have read so many new authors during the lockdown. I feel privileged to be able to do so in this group. A lovely heartwarming story. You really get to love Posy. She is a great character who comes to terms with her adoption story so well. A summer read.
A lovely summery read. Tilly Tennant has a wonderful way of describing scenes so that the reader feels like they're there with the characters. Aster combe sounded so idyllic, I wanted to live there myself. I laughed so much when Posy called Lachlan Groundskeeper Willy. There were parts of the book that were a little drawn out, Jackson for example, he added very little to the storyline. Asa's relationship with Posy was utterly heartwarming and Lachlan was the Mr, Rochester style tortured soul, which only added to his swoon worthiness. The drama coming towards the end had my nerves shot, but it made for great reading. Overall, it's a great read and I'll definitely be reading more by Tilly Tennant in the future.
I loved this novel! The characters jumped out at me and drew me in! Lots of content. I'd love to live in a village and know everyone.
A wonderful bittersweet story of Posy, who finds her biological uncles after the death of her grandmother. Meeting them, and getting to know the area was great. Meeting the characters, such as grumpy Lachlan, were even nicer eye candy. A couple of things I didn't enjoy as much, which cost a star was the need for her brief boyfriend Jackson (too whiny), and the explanation of Lachlan was too swift. Also would have liked more about the grandmother and the relationship with Posy's mother. Minor though, and I would highly recommend this book and author. Fun read.
Posy is scared and excited as she arrives at Oleander House to meet the Uncles she never knew she had. Adopted as a baby she never knew anything about her birth family but when her Grandmother died Posy was named in her will. Her Uncles are equally shocked having never known Posy existed.
Posy soon finds herself growing close to her Uncles and loves Oleander House and the nearby village of Astercombe. When she meets their neighbour Lachlan in the most embarrassing way, Posy hopes she won’t keep bumping into him, but it’s a small village and it becomes increasingly difficult to avoid the rude, standoffish but undeniably handsome man.
There is clearly something troubling Lachlan and as she gets to know more about him Posy can’t help wanting to see what lies underneath his gruff exterior.
Tilly Tennant always writes lovely books and this is no exception. Characters you really care about and a setting you want to lose yourself in.
Overall, this book is charming and sweet with solid character development and lovely world-building of this small town. I enjoyed the way the characters interacting with each other and the setting so much. However, I found the pacing to move a little too slowly for me.
I loved this sweet, easy read from Tilly Tennant. Wonderful characters and the beautiful setting of the Somerset countryside work together brilliantly in bringing the story together. Posy is a great main character and her experiences reconnecting with her birth family are covered sensitively and emotionally. It’s a lovely warm-hearted read. .
This book felt a little "drawn out", it took a while to get to where it needed to be and then it finished, there was a lot of thinking and I liked the friend and uncle more than the main character and would love a book about Asa.
I would have liked the book to not give so much description and go beyond where it finished.
I’ve never read a book by this author before but I really enjoyed this. Light hearted, fun and cute with a little romance thrown in. I did find it a little slow in places but I can forgive the author for that as I did enjoy it. Some gorgeous descriptions and the setting sounded idyllic. Recommend for an easy summer read.
I’ve never read a book by this author which wasn’t simply delightful! The Little Orchard on the Lane was such a heart-warming read which pulled me into the story right from the first page. The story begins with Posy arriving at Oleander House in Somerset, nervous about meeting her birth family. Posy was adopted as a baby, and this is the first time that she has met her uncles, Giles and Asa. I immediately connected with Posy’s character and loved everything about her. She’s just so lovely and kind that you couldn’t help but like her. I also connected straight away with the location of the book, and as I read, I could feel the warm Somerset sun beating down on me. I loved the descriptions of Oleander House, the orchard attached to it and the little village of Astercombe so much that I found myself wondering if Karen really did run a hotel which I could book into for a few days!
This book takes us on Posy’s journey of not only finding her birth family, but also in finding herself and working out what she really wanted in life. Whilst in Astercombe, she unexpectedly meets grumpy vineyard owner, Lachlan, and whilst she’s not looking for love you are kept wondering if anything will ever happen between them. Lachlan is however, the most miserable and grumpiest man I’ve ever read about, so whilst you really hope Posy gets a happy ending, I wasn’t sure I wanted it to be with him!! Lachlan obviously has a story as to why he’s like he is, but we are kept hanging on to find out what this is! All of the characters in the book are so likeable and there wasn’t one which I didn’t feel something for. I loved Posy’s Uncle Asa and thought he was just the kind of uncle and best friend that you wish for. The characters all have their own part in the storyline, and these create some lovely scenes which will make you smile and some more dramatic parts which makes you wonder what will happen!
This was a heart-warming, light-hearted read which once started I couldn’t put down until I’d finished. The author is so good at making you feel that you are actually there, so much so that I was sure I could taste the cider!! Full of secrets and family relationships, this book is absolutely perfect for that little bit of escapism. With lots of fun, love and laughter and a little bit of drama, I would certainly recommend this book! Loved it!!
I am not usually a reader of this genre but I fancied a light and feel good read and had seen good things about Tilly Tennants previous books so I thought I would try this one and I was very impressed. I found the characters likeable and the story had everything I was looking for in this type of book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
The Little Orchard on the Lane was a pleasant read with some likeable characters. It follows the story of Posy who, adopted as a baby, discovers she has family who own an apple orchard in Somerset. She travels to the little village of Astercombe and Oleander House to reconnect with her family. This novel was enjoyable but I found some parts to be slow going in places. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
Posy and her adoptive mom Carmel set out to Oleander House with the hope that Posy would learn the story of her bio-parents and connect with her relatives who own an orchard. Posy finds much more- Lachlan, who owns the neighboring vineyard. Read this as much for the charming scenes of Posy and the orchard as for the romance. Why is Lachlan so reluctant to open up? No spoilers from me. Fans of Tenant know that this will be a good read with a bit of humor and a touch of drama. It's also got a big heart. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
Definitely a wonderful feel-good romance novel. Perfect for all you rom-com lovers who just want a short and sweet novel to read on your patio on a sunny day with a glass of lemonade. I definitely loved all the family twists and turns, and the main message about family being strong through loyalty, not by blood. I also loved the idea of not judging a book by its cover; a person may seem horrible on the outside, but chances are they are probably going through things that you can never imagine. A beautiful read indeed!
