BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Broken Ones' by Carla Kovach.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 1st March 2021.

This is the second book I have read by this author. It is also the eighth book in her 'Detective Gina Harte' series but can be read as a standalone. The seventh book in the series is called 'Their Silent Graves' which I also highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis. It is also the eighth book in the series that I have read the seventh one of so I'm looking forward to continuing it. It also stated in the synopsis that fans of Angela Marsons will love it. I am a huge fan of Angela's books so am looking forward to see if it lives up to this. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 69 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in the UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonist is Detective Gina Harte. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out on anything.

This book is another riveting installment in this gripping and addictive series. Filled with vivid descriptions it is easy to get lost in the pages for hours. The cover and synopsis work perfectly with the storyline. This book hit every possible emotion and I loved every part of it.

The storyline was quite unique, very fast paced and filled with suspense, tension, secrets, action and lots red herrings to throw you off the scent. I was completely shocked by who the killer turned out to be and never expected them in the slightest. I always love it when I'm shocked as there's nothing worse than working out the killer and your not even half way through the book yet. I love that several chapters are from the Killer's perspective which gives an excellent insight to how they are feeling and why they are doing what they are.

I love Gina and the fact that she is a strong female role model who has got a history herself makes it even better. I enjoyed meeting all the previous characters along with many new ones who all had their own personalities and were strong characters. I am looking forward to meeting them all again when I read more of the fabulous Carla's books.

If you have never read this series I highly recommend starting now. It is always great if you can start at the beginning of a series but the brilliant thing with Carla's books is that it really doesn't matter where you start as they can be read in any order.

Overall a page turning, psychological thriller that will leave you shocked and wanting to read more of this incredible series.

Genres covered in this novel include Psychological Fiction, Crime Fiction, Thriller, Police Procedural, Mystery and Psychological Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, C. L. TAYLOR, Karin Slaughter and just anyone looking for a fantastic new series to read

359 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I loved this book. Not only is it a gritty crime thriller but I really loved the investigation team full of some really strong female leads. As the team try to solve the murder of a young female they have to act fast to stop this twisted killer from taking another girl before it’s too late. Although this book is part of a series it is easy to read as a stand-alone if you haven’t yet managed to discover this gem of a series. I was blown away as I spent the whole book changing my mind about who was responsible and in the end I was not expecting the outcome

Carla is one of my favourite authors and while I have also preordered this, once I saw it was available on Netgalley, I requested it straight away and like the rest, it certainly didn’t disappoint. What l love most is the parallel storyline of the team and their lives outside the station and especially the on/off relationship between Gina and Briggs which has been there from the start, normally I don’t like when the two main characters get it together halfway through a series but as this has been there from book one, it’s different. I wish I could give more than five stars and my only regret was getting to the end which means I have to wait for the next book.

Amber goes out for a date, but doesn't return home. Then her body is found in a local park with her lips sealed shut with superglue. As Detective Gina Harte and the rest of the team investigate, they find that there are many people in Amber's life who are suspicious. But did they kill her, or are they hiding other secrets? When another girl vanishes, it is a race against time to find her before it is too late.

Another brilliant entry to the series, this story is exciting and tense and with so many suspects, we really have no clue who is responsible until the very end. The returning characters are likeable and all of the new characters in this story are interesting. Really enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

What a brilliant installment with Gina Harte. I love this series, the characters are great and I love catching up with them.

This time Gina is hunting the killer of Amber, who is found dumoed in a lake, and horrifically has had her lips superglue shut! What is the killer trying to say? When another girl is attacked Gina must stop this evil psycho before anyone else loses their life..... But is she too late?

This story is fast paces and full of suspects, I didn't know who was responsible until the writer wanted me to. A very good read, I couldn't put it down. I'd highly recommend it. And the rest of the series for that matter.

It was nice read more about Detective Gina.

Detective Gina is task to investigate a missing woman Amber who was last scene getting ready for date. As she dives into Amber life everyone has something to say about Amber but don’t know where she disappeared to.

When her body is found no one has anything to say as Gina and her team tries put the pieces together of Amber life a another woman goes missing and it’s race against time to find her before she silence forever.

I love it this read. It was engaging as you follow Gina as you think she has something then it’s takes twists and turns that has her shock. Look forward to next book in this series.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
