I liked the idea of this plot but it just didn’t grab me. I kinda guess who Lauren’s tormentor was. I personally didn’t find it on your seat or got to know what’s going to happen next.
I quite enjoyed this, although it did tend to lag a little here and there. And I have to say right from the get-go... Adam is just such a pain. I mean, really.
Anyway, that aside, I thought I knew who the trouble-maker was.... it wasn't. Then I thought aha! It's that one. But again, nope. So there's that, I'm a bit of a sucker for red herrings. I also enjoyed the travel aspect, bringing in a foreign country gave it a bit of an edge.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for my ARC.
Wow, what a book! The Wedding was my first Ruth Heald book, and I'm definitely going to read everything else she's written. This book pulled me in from the first page and didn't let me go until the last word. It was incredibly hard to put down and had so many twists and turns that I couldn't wait to find out how it ended (but I also didn't want it to end because I was enjoying it so much). I really liked Lauren and Adam and cared about what happened to them, and the supporting characters were great too. I highly recommend this incredible thriller...thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review The Wedding. : )
Very gripping psychological thriller centering around family relationships The story was so engrossing that you couldn't put it down. It kept you riveted until the final pages!
A couldn't put down read!!!
Lauren is planning her once in a lifetime wedding to Adam. She begins to get threatening messages , each one scarier than the last. Who wants to stop their wedding? This is a story that takes place in London and Thailand- love that! As I was reading, I thought I had it figured out, then another twist, and they mystery begins again! This was an easy read, very entertaining and with lots of twists and turns.
Thank you to NetGalley , the author and publisher for an advanced copy of this.
A twisted domestic noir novel that is so gripping readers will want to read the whole book in one sitting, Ruth Heald’s The Wedding is a tale of jealousy, vengeance and obsession that is juicy, shocking and addictive.
Lauren has been with her partner Adam for eighteen years. Having been a couple for close to two decades, Lauren is fairly confident in the fact that there is nothing about Adam that she doesn’t know. When they finally decide to get married, Lauren is absolutely elated. She has been dreaming about her wedding day for the longest time possible and she is counting down the days until she can finally walk down the aisle towards the man with whom she is going to be spending the rest of her life. With the invitations sent, the dress picked out and the wedding planned within an inch of its life, Lauren’s fairytale wedding is about to commence, but her dream ceremony turns into a nightmare that has her fearing for her life!
Lauren never imagined that a piece of paper with four words printed on it would end up turning her entire world upside down. The four words written on the card stop her heart in its tracks. Who could have possibly sent it to Lauren? And on her wedding day of all days? Who could possibly hate her this much that they would go to such desperate lengths to ruin her wedding day and destroy her future? But more to the point, is what’s written on the card actually true? Has Adam been lying to her all this time? Is it true that he does not love her? Or is this someone’s pathetic idea of a joke? Determined to get to the bottom of this shocking mystery, Lauren vows to leave no stone unturned. But with everything to lose and a dangerous enemy hiding in plain sight amongst her family and friends, is Lauren ready for what she is about to uncover? Or will opening up this Pandora’s box end up costing her everything…including her life?
Ruth Heald’s The Wedding is a dark, tense and menacing thriller that is an absolute struggle to put down. Ruth Heald grabs her readers’ attention from the very first page and keeps them on the edge of their seats until the final jaw-dropping twist. A brilliantly paced psychological thriller that will have readers chewing their nails to the elbow, fans of Jane Corry and Paula Hawkins will not want to miss Ruth Heald’s The Wedding.
Thank you Netgalley for an copy of THE WEDDING BY RUTH HEALD..
Definitely a cozy quick read , I read it in one sitting , enjoyed it very much .
Lauren is about to marry Adam, who she has been with for years. When a card arrives saying "He doesn't love you", Lauren marks it as a silly prank from one of Adam's friends, but then other bad things start to happen to her. Is her perfect day going to end up being the worst day of her life? An exciting, thrilling and tense read, with characters full of suspicion. Kept guessing who to trust, as various secrets and lies come to light. A twisty suspenseful book that keeps you wondering! Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.
Lauren and Adam are planning their dream wedding. But then strange things start to happen and someone is hinting that there are secrets. A doll in a slashed wedding dress. A message that says 'he doesn't love you'. And Adam IS keeping a stalker patient a secret...
The Wedding begins with Lauren on her wedding day but things haven't gone to plan. We then go back in time to the build up to the wedding. The chapters are written in the third person from Lauren and Adam's perspectives. We also see events from Adam in 2001 at the start of the relationship.
It is supposed to be the happiest time of Lauren's life but her emotions are already on edge following the tragic deaths of her parents, estrangement from her sister and a miscarriage. Now she feels threatened and niggling doubts about Adam's honesty and fidelity add to the mix.
Lauren and Adam are both keeping secrets. She has been harbouring feelings of guilt (what was her involvement in her parents' deaths?) while he has kept quiet about his troublesome patient. He also failed to mention his one night stand with his best friend back when they were at university.
The chapters are quite short so the plot develops quickly. I liked this fast pace for creating a relentless series of actions that threaten the wedding. I had a big idea about the potential twist a third of the way through and it was then fun to watch events unfold. It didn't bother me at all that I'd guessed the twist (it actually made me feel quite clever!)
The Wedding was an entertaining psychological thriller that I could easily imagine being adapted for a TV drama.
Oo another amazingly creepy book! These characters were just fantastic and really held your attention the whole way through. Great plot and the writing was amazing!
Loved this! So good, so exciting, so gripping and great story. Can't wait to read more by this author - absolutely brilliant.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. This book was absolutely amazing and I could not put it down. There were so many twists and turns and suspenseful through the last page. I loved the storyline and the characters. Great job!
The Wedding is a twisty thriller with plenty of intense emotional scenes. Someone is out to make sure that Lauren's and Adam's wedding is canceled, but who is it? Amanda - Adam's flirty patient, Sam - his mom, Kiera - Adam's best friend who weirdly starts living with them, or someone else entirely. Lauren has no idea, but she's about to find out...on her wedding day.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book from start to finish. The pacing is excellent and the story is entertaining. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is full of suspense and mystery and had me on the edge of my seat. I will definitely be looking for more books written by this author. You can find all my reviews on Goodreads under www.goodreads.com/ytbennett and on Instagram under ytbennett67.
This was a fast and easy read though none of it was very surprising which was a slight let down. Even though it was fairly predictable I still enjoyed the story and the characters.
This book really didn’t do it for me. The saving factor was the writing style, the fast paced writing kept me reading, even if the story wasn’t keeping me hooked.
It was so completely predictable. There are attempts at twists that just don’t land, and just an outrageous ending with no real life ability.
Okay okay, if you love a good Lifetime movie then this is the book for you.
Lauren, a doctor, is due to get married to her childhood sweetheart Adam. All seems well and good until Lauren gets a note telling her that all may not be as it seems.
I spent this entire book making guesses. And about halfway in I really thought I knew what was going on. I felt terrible for Lauren as I read the back and forth between the present and the past, getting to know what she'd been through when she was younger and why being with Adam was so important to her.
And I kind of wanted to hate Adam, until the pieces started to come together.
This book has a twist you aren't going to see coming. And if you do... you have a twisted, twisted mind.
This was a great, fast paced read.
Not sure I've ever changed my mind so much reading a book, and that is the sign of a good thriller. Which clues are red herrings? Which characters are capable of sabotage?
There were plenty of events and clues to sift through and unpick, and it was extremely well executed.
I read a review before starting this that it wasn't advised to read this book while planning your wedding. I have been engaged for 18 months and we are hopefully booking our wedding after lockdown ends. This definitely increased my anxiety through the book, but made it much more thrilling for me.
Another brilliant book from Heald!
Thanks to Netgalley for this advance copy. I found it to be very exciting and thrilling. I started reading it this morning and just finished it! The plot is fast paced and you really want to know who would have such a grievance against Adam and Lauren. It is an excellent read from this brilliant writer
Wow, what a nail-biter this was. Gripping from the start with so many twists along the way. The ending was something I could never have imagined. . I loved it and highly recommend this book This is psychological thriller writing at its very best. I think it would make a great film
