Is anyone better than Elin Hilderbrand at family dramas? Short answer is no. Golden Girl is another wonderful book by Hilderbrand about a mother of three adult children after she dies of a hit-and-run. Vivi is allowed to continue to watch her children and "nudge" them three times to influence their futures one last time. The book is a wonderful view of a mother's love and relationships changing as families grow. I enjoyed it completely, and also the beautiful descriptions of Nantucket.
Always a great story teller, Hildebrand once again writes of family, relationships, and secrets. A bit far fetched, but who doesn’t love a book where an angel gives you 3 “ nudges” to help your family accept your death.
Another enthralling novel by Hildebrand that takes you on a vacation in Nantucket where so many unexpected events occur. This one stuck with me a bit as a mom and although I figured some of it out by the end, I hadn’t gotten it all and was still surprised along the way. Hilderbrand invests so much time in her characters that you feel like you know them, become invested in them and want to know what they’re up to long after the book ends. That’s where I am now, still thinking about this book and just how good it is. Summer’s not over yet, grab Golden Girl and hold on to the last rays of sunshine while you can!
Once again Elin Hilderbrand knocks it out of the park. There is not a book that she writes that I do not love and cherish long after I finish reading them. This one was probably one of my favorite that she has written.
My wife LOVES the Elin Hilderbrand books, so I got this one for her to read. Here is her review: She really liked this one a lot. She is usually good at predicting how novels end, but this one kept her guessing which she really enjoyed.
This book is too long. Let me just get that out of the way. It could have been much shorter. This is a pretty typical Elin Hilderbrand book, and I think it's time to admit these just aren't for me. They're considered "women's fiction" or "beach reads" and this came across as very Hallmark-eque.
Absolutely loved this summer family drama with a unique perspective. Heartwarming yet entertaining. While the twists were easy to see coming, the characters were so endearing and their story through their moms eyes was cherished.
As I have stated before, this author does not disappoint. I have dragged this book out, because I did not want it to end. It almost reads as an autobiography. It is a story about a family and how they they have to learn to cope with the ups and downs in life after the mother passes away in an accident. The family learns different things about the mother that the the mother had never shared with them; showing them that everyone goes through something, but life still moves on.
I am hoping that this is not Elin’s last book. As with her other books, some of the characters carry over, such as the police chief. The books are not connected, but give a comfortable familiarity.
This is my first Elin Hilderbrand book and it did not disappoint. I am new to her writing style, but I quickly fell for her descriptive prose and well-developed plot structure. I enjoyed the intertwining of mystery and family drama as the person who killed Vivian Howe is hunted in a hit in run is hunted and Vivian watches over her children for a summer from "The Beyond." This was one of those books that leaves you thinking long after you are done reading.
Great summer read by Hilderbrand. A little bit of a different feel from her other novels, but enjoyable all the same!
LOVED this one! Simply incredible.
Hilderbrand continues to amaze me with her writing. I haven’t read a book of hers that I haven’t devoured.
Thanks to NetGalley & publishers for the ARC.
The beautiful Nantucket summer setting of Golden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand brings forth the idea of a summer beach read. This book avails itself of that setting but then turns from the summer beach read into something much more serious and a take on issues plucked from the headlines. The book is a quick, entertaining while it lasts, and leaves the lesson of forgiveness which is always important to remember.

Well THIS was fun. I wasn't sure what to think when I heard Elin Hilderbrand was dropping a new supernatural twist into her new beach read but I loved it. Summery, juicy, and deliciously gossippy—a perfect summer read.
This was so good! I look forward to reading Elin's books every year. This one definitely didn't disappoint. The story moved along quickly and I got invested in finding out what happens with the characters. I would read more, if I could have!
After this author made some rather (in my opinion) snarky remarks about readers I've been avoiding her. This one had been sitting on my shelf for too long so I knew I needed to just try it and see what happened. Maybe because my expectations were low or maybe it was what I needed at the time but it actually kept me pretty engaged.
Golden Girl is the story of Vivi, author and mother of three, who is killed in a hit and run accident one summer morning. You get many points of view throughout the story as everything unfolds the summer of the accident. From Vivi's kids to her ex-husband and his new girlfriend, you get all the drama.
There is a "playing God" element to this story that I don't know if I really even needed. Vivi's point of view wasn't even one I was looking forward to.
I enjoyed Elin's sections with Nantucket as the narrator - like she did with the Winter in Paradise books - and I'm glad to see that used in this book as well.
There were a lot of lengthy descriptions of food and outfits that sometimes I enjoyed and sometimes were too much. Individually there were parts I really didn't like but overall I still somehow kept wanting to pick this one up and read it in a couple days which is usually a sign I enjoyed myself.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
one of my favorite Elin Hilderbrand novels to date! I loved the afterlife element (although I was unsure at the start). It was told beautifully and was still somehow quintessential EH! The characters were so lovable and I really appreciated how vulnerable this book was in dealing with death, grief, and learning to live life without someone you love dearly.
I loved this book by Elin Hilderbrand. I enjoyed seeing the plot and different perspectives (jumping from Vivi to her children) and the small bit of mystery element. The family dynamics, Nantucket setting and characters we’re all things that Hilderbrand’s novels are known for and are why I continue to enjoy her books.
Elin can do no wrong. She has the incredible ability to build characters you fall in love with. I have read Every one of her books and this is my favorite.
Golden Girl is totally engrossing, with likable characters and a wonderful mix of romance, murder mystery and a bit of the supernatural. I highly recommend this book.
While the Golden Girl storyline wasn’t terribly unique, there was enough of a freshness to it that hooked me from the beginning. The Nantucket backdrop is enchanting and offers such an escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Vivian Howe’s character combined with the complexity of her children and family dynamic was so interesting and really had me hanging on as each layer was peeled away.
Maybe it’s because I’m a Mother myself, but Vivian’s story and her devotion to watch over her children really touched me. I also enjoyed the mystery element to the story as well. This was only the second book I had read by Elin Hilderbrand, and it certainly won’t be the last!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me the opportunity to review this magical book!
