This was a Crown of Fates novel. This novel picks up where the first one left off. This novel felt like it was mostly a filler novel for the third book. Still, it has romance, action, and adventure! This novel is sure to appeal to fans of Sarah J. Maas!
This was a great sequel in the Fate of Crowns series, the characters were great and what I remembered enjoying from the previous book. The storyline was there and I had a great time reading this.
The stakes increase from book 1 and there's no "second book syndrome" in sight! YAY! This means that this second installment is an excellent bridge between book 1 and book 3 with a fast-paced and interesting plot full of surprises. More magical creatures too and scenes with them! We also see them being more involved with the plot whether that be helping Winter with something or being used as a pawn by the corrupt kingdom leaders which increased the political twists and turns.
When I try to guess what Winter will do in a situation or guess what will happen in the plot, I'm always surprised which I love. Also, forget love triangles, this book has a love square with alllll the boys wanting to marry Winter for one reason or another.
Even though I have a favorite love interest for Winter I can see the benefits from the different matches and why she has to weigh her decisions carefully with her head yes but also her heart. I actually really like love triangles or other complicated relationship dynamics with book characters because we get to see them discover who they are and/or who they will be.
We also get to see Winter wrestle with her past, her family's past, and the past of other corrupt leaders/kingdoms. She is very realistically portrayed through all her struggles which is what makes her a favorite female MC.
I cannot wait to re-read this one once the audiobook comes out because I loved Amanda Stribling's portrayal of Winter and the other characters in the audiobook of book 1 (The Fate of Crowns)
Thank you to The Next Step PR, Victory Editing, NetGalley, and the author Rebecca L Garcia for the e-arc copy of The Princess of Nothing. I received this review copy free of charge, it was my choice to read and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
I didn’t love the first book in this series but I wanted to give the sequel a chance. I was hoping to see some improvement and growth in the pacing, plot and writing but I soon realised that sadly this series just isn’t for me. It was a DNF unfortunately.
As I didn’t read the whole book I’m going to rate it 2 stars for fairness.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review.
I really loved this, my only criticism is that it wasn’t quite as good as the first book. But I think I’m more critical because I thought the first was amazing, the writing is still beautiful, the story fast paced and addictive, I just felt it wasn’t quite as good as the first, but still a great read

The Princess of Nothing is the second book in The Fate of Crowns Series by Rebecca L. Garcia. I had not read the previous book,(I will very soon!) but was able to read this as a standalone book after I got into it. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the books in order.
I found this to be truly fascinating and such an incredible adventure! I loved the characters and the intensity of the story. I will definitely be reading the other books in the series because I want to dive deep into this world!
I'm so grateful to Rebecca L. Garcia and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.
The first half of the book is not too bad. Winter shows some growth, and she feels remorse because she betrayed her friends. Because of everything that happened in the first book, she also seems to be more open-minded, which is a good improvement.
Sadly, the last part of the book was a letdown. Winter’s decisions annoyed me, it’s as if she reverted back to the spoilt and immature princess… After all the progress she made in the first part of the book. I was really frustrated with the way she treated Cedric, especially after he risked his life to save her many times and sacrificed a lot to follow her. The fact that Blaise is boring and that there is no chemistry between him and Winter did not help me enjoyed the book either.
The pace of the second half of the book was also more rushed, after spending so much time focusing on which boy to choose, suddenly everything happened, and everything was rushed. And still, the book ended with Winter worrying about boys again. I did not enjoy the first book much, but at least it was a little more focused on Winter’s adventure. I feel like I just read 250 pages about teenage Winter thinking about her feelings for two cute guys.
I will not continue with this series. After reading many great reviews about the second book, I hoped that I would like it more than the first one, but I just can’t get into this series. The pace is not working for me, and I can’t connect with the characters.

This series just gets better! I love this book! I can't wait for the next! It draws you right in and won't let you go! I need the next book now! Read review
Unfortunately, this book was not as good as the first one. I felt that the first book led up to a great adventure and plot, and then this one focused more on which boy should she choose.
The most exciting part of this book was in the last 10 minutes and then ended with her worried about a boy, again.
I wish more had been focused on Winter and her adventure versus her odd love thing going on between Cedric and Blaise and then a bit of Kiros in there.
Book 2 in The Fate of Crowns series. I was really looking forward to reading this book as book 1 was absolutely fantastic, but for me it fell a tad short of my expectations. The writing was excellent and certainly kept me interested from beginning to end but somehow it didn't excite me as much as book 1.
Winter didn't seem as strong as she did in book one until the very end when she made the decision to go into battle and for a Young Adult book, as a 17 year old having the attention of three men didn't seem wise for me.
Cedric, I believe has many secrets he is still harbouring and Blaise I don't think has fully revealed himself.
Hopefully in book 3 we will get many more answers.

After devouring the previous book, I was definitely excited to dive into this sequel. That being said The Princess of Nothing was interesting in it's own way but definitely had some anticlimactic parts to it as well. For example, I knew there was something odd about Cedric in the first book so it wasn't a shock or anything when something was revealed about him.
Then there's Winter who seems to make terrible decisions all over again. Just like in the first book. Yet, I get it at the same time. She is definitely dealing with a lot of stuff in this book. Probably more than the first book and her anxiety attacks aren't helping either. Don't get me wrong, she is a strong and confident but I feel like she is too dependent at the same time.
I did love some of the decisions she was making in this book and I was happy that she was acting more like a Queen in certain situations. It just wasn't enough because for some reason she felt like she needed a Cedric by her side no matter what. There was no love between them even if he had a crush or whatever on her. There's obviously something going on between her and Blaise but nothing really happens.
If there's another book I would love for her to be a Queen and a Queen alone. Yes, people have stated that she needs a King by her side for the good of the Kingdom.. but what if that doesn't happen and she rules by herself? I think that would make an interesting book.
In the end, the ending was just okay for me. I wasn't expecting much with this being a sequel in everything.. but it didn't wow me or anything either.

The Fates of Crowns Series is for fans of Holly Black and SJM! If you're looking for your next fix, it starts here with Rebecca L. Garcia.
Sometimes when book one of a series is phenomenal, I'm always very critical of the sequel. The reason for that is because an author has the monumental job of making the next book just as good, if not better, than the first. There's been so many examples in the YA industry where sequels have fallen incredibly short of the mark, so I'm so pleased to be able to say that "Queen of Nothing' exceeded my expectations on every front and has obtained a higher rating than I initially gave 'The Fate of Crowns' (book 1).
This book features Faeries, magic, Sorcerers, political intrigue, buddying romance, but also very human emotions, fantastic character growth and development, and such stunningly raw relatability. This series is every YA fantasy reader’s wet dream!
The writing continued to be absolutely top tier. I'm not normally one for first person narration, but Garcia has only just gone to prove that there are fantastic examples out there for me.
I had a few issues with pacing discrepancies throughout the first book, but this time... my god! I was kept on the edge of my seat from the get go! Initially that was a problem for me in the last book, but I think that was because I didn't know Winter (our MC) all that well, and because I have had the previous book's adventure to get to know her, the fast paced drive of this book didn't overwhelm me at all.
Winter as a character had initially annoyed me in the first book. I thought she was naïve and annoyingly stubborn, but she displayed so much growth throughout that novel, and she only continued that journey for herself in this book.
Now having this book released, I would 100% recommended this book and series as your next YA read
Fast paced and full of action this book takes off straight from the first book.
Winter has grown and evolved into the queen she needs to be for her kingdom. I loved this book and felt it was an amazing follow on from the first book in the series.
The writing was perfect and kept just enough tension throughout the whole book as well as amazing character development. You don’t get a chance to catch your breath as the story takes every twist and turn you can imagine.
Amazing book and I can’t wait to see where this season will go next.
This book was a great sequel! It follows the main character as she continues to figure out who she is, and how to help her country. This story is filled with magic and adventure. The characters are great, and I love the world that the author has built, and the magic in the story.
This novel was a great sequel to the first novel in the series. Winter has more adventures, many which will have an impact in trying to regain her crown from her cousin. Winter has to do things she would rather not, but sometimes you have to plan the game to gather information and keep yourself alive. Winter is involved with three men, Kiros, Cedric, and Blaise, each having their own person interest in Winter. One she betrays and lies to, another frustrates her, but yet she desires him, and another she wants to love. Each relationship she has plays a significant role in the novel, for she needs each of them in different ways to achieve her goal. But their is more at stack than Winter knows, and as she discovers the truths, she has an even greater role to play than just trying to regain her kingdom.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own,
This book was a lot better than what I thought it was going to be! I was not sure about it but decided to give it a chance and I am so glad I did. I really enjoyed the main characters and the plot line was full of adventure. I will be recommending this book to all of my friends.
I was excited to read this second book in this series, after reading the first book I couldn’t wait to find out what happens to Winter. This book was filled with adventure, romance, and deception. Now that winter is headed back home, I’m ready for book three to see what happens between her, Blaise, and Cedric.
DNF @ 35%. I wanted a lot more from this sequel. I liked the idea of the first one but was hoping to see a lot more growth and development in this second installment, both in terms of character and writing. Unfortunately I found this to be too young for my taste. Perhaps other audiences will enjoy it more.
This book was received as an ARC from Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book reminded me a lot of A Court of Fire and Ruins and Red Queen. Being in an arranged marriage and captured by the kingsmen threatened for your magic and life unless you marry the prince. One event after the other just made this book all the more interesting to read and this is definitely a step in the right direction for the latest YA Fantasy genre. This book just proves why I love this genre so much and everyday I share a title or two with our patrons especially our new ones that come in that love YA. This is definitely another book I will add to my recommendation list.
We will consider adding this title to our YA collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
