One Year Gone by A. Bishop, published by Union Lake Publishing, is a breathtaking ride I took with this new to me author. An excellent, unputdownable read, suspenseful and full of twists and unexpected turns till the last page. One Year Gone is a 5 star read if I ever read one, that's for sure.
Jessica Moore is a single mom of a 17 year old. Only her daughter vanished nearly one year ago.
Now she gets messages that frighten her and make her delve into her daughter's life before she vanished. The truth is nothing, literally nothing like I expected. This thriller checks all my boxes. I recommend the book, 5 stars.
Jess's young teenage daughter Brownwyn (Wyn) went missing one year ago and there are still no clues to her disappearance. Jess is still trying to come to terms and investigate on her own since police didn't seem to find anything. When she receives shocking texts from Wyn a year later she is unsure where to turn to as the texts seem to point to a member of law enforcement having abducted Wyn. Jess isn't sure who she can turn to for help? The local police, FBI, her ex husband Joe?
I found the book to be somewhat confusing as there were chapters of then: Wyn before and during a pep rally, Jess back then and Jess now and also a lot of characters from Wyn's high school that were suspicious. Also didn't care much for most of the characters especially those of Wyn's high school classmates who were at the best selfish and at their worst murdering bullies. I sped read through most of the book just to get it over with.
The author tells the story in the past and present through both Jessica and Wyn’s eyes. It is interwoven beautiful and made it very engaging to read! I started the book and was hooked immediately. The book took SO many turns and I learned so much new information, it was hard to fully predict where it would end up. I felt for Jessica SO many times throughout this story, and I admired her perseverance to find her daughter, even when the odds were stacked against her. I can say that I did NOT see the ending coming, and I will now also be on the lookout for violet butterflies! This was the first time I’ve read an Avery Bishop book, and I am very excited to check out her other books.
Enjoyable, interesting, well written story about a missing girl in a small town.
Told in present and 1 year previously about Wyn, local school girl who disappeared after the Pep Rally.
Jessica ,Wyn’s mother begins to receive text messages from Wyn’s phone saying she is being held captive by a law enforcement officer and needs help.
Jess begins the search again for her daughter.
Lots of twists and turns whilst capturing small town life, family problems and teenage angst.
A little slow in places but rushes at breakneck speed to a surprising, poignant climax.
Highly recommended. 4 Star ⭐️
Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for a fair review.
ONE YEAR GONE is a good suspense novel with a surprising ending. Jessica's daughter, Wyn, left home without a word a year ago. Jessica thinks Wyn was the victim of foul play. But the police and Jessica's ex-husband think that Wyn is a runaway;, that she left home after a humiliating incident went viral on YouTube. But when Jessica gets an ominous text from her daughter telling her that she is being held by a man that makes her call him "daddy," everything changes. Both the police and the FBI get involved, albeit quietly, because Wyn's texts imply that the man who kidnapped her is in law enforcement. the story moves back and forth in time, with the story told by both Wyn and Jessica. The characters are engaging and relatable, fully flawed human being that made me empathize with them. Good story!
This book had me glued from the beginning! I absolutely loved this story.
The writing was great she had emotions in this book! I couldn't imagine what this mother went through and I felt for her.
Great great book
I was sucked into the mystery of Wyn's disappearance and her mother's search from page one. The story demands that you keep reading as it slowly pieces together what happened on the last day Wyn was seen, through both her eyes and Jessica's. I was all in, until I felt like the author went three twists too many past believable. Some of the character's actions were just unfathomable to me. I enjoyed reading the book but I didn't care for how the puzzle pieces were fit together.
Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for access to this arc.
When Jessica Moore’s 17 year old daughter disappears, police believe she’s a runaway and tell Jessica not to worry, she’ll come home in her own time. But Wyn doesn’t return and Jessica hears nothing until a year later, when she gets a series of texts from her daughter, begging for help. Wyn appears to fear for her life, but she cautions her mother not to contact the police. According to Wyn, her kidnapper is a member of law enforcement. Using all her determination and desperation, Wyn sets out to uncover the truth about what happened to her daughter, even if it kills her.
