When the first chapter talks about some that is kidnapped, you know it is going to be a crazy book. Throughout the book, I was trying to figure out who did it and really was invested in the story of this girl that had gone missing. I loved the twists and turns throughout the story up until the very end.

Jessica’s seventeen year old daughter Wyn has been missing for one year. She disappeared the day of a traumatic experience at a school pep rally. All signs point to her being a runaway, but Jessica knows in her gut something far more sinister happened. Suddenly she starts receiving texts from Wyn…..will she be able to find her and rescue her in time?

The story quickly sucked you in and was easy to follow. Each chapter and character change gave you a bit more depth as to what the story was leading up to. It is a psychological thriller written from the two main characters (Jessica & Wyn) in both past & present time.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first 80% of this book. The writing was great and left just enough to make you race through the next chapter.

Then - in my opinion- it imploded. The last 20% of the book had far too many twists and added characters and changing storylines that I became disinterested. I literally was just reading to finish.

We went from a murder/kidnapping mystery to all of a sudden tackling coming out, two teenage murderers, a forged autopsy, a fake FBI agent, a second death that the murder victims own father (along with all the county police) cover up and ultimately a confession in the last chapter from an extremely minor character in the rest of the story.

It was just too much crammed into the end.

Jessica Moore is lost - her 17 year old daughter has been missing for a year. She was advised that sometimes teens leave, she could come back, give it time.

However, as time goes one without her daughter, she loses hope she will ever see her daughter again. Then, out of the blue, she receives texts from her daughter - she needs help, he is going to kill her. As Jessica starts trying to figure out where her daughter is, she realizes that there is a lot more going on and needs to figure out how to proceed.

This book was so hard to put down. I needed to know what happened next. The back and forth between the current and the past was like putting a puzzle together. The final twist - perfection.

Last week I participated in a buddy read of One Year Gone. And all I can say is whoa. Whoa. It is the story of a high school junior who disappears one night, presumably as a runaway and her mother, one year later, who gets some random texts from her and starts searching again. The book is all over the place with different POVs and jumping between one year ago and present day. And it sucked me in. There were so many twists. So many red herrings. So many gasping moments. And then it totally went off the rails in a wild, no I did not just read that kind of way. Several times. Right up to the end. This book was nuts and kept me guessing with so many theories. And it totally fed into and amplified my normal trust no one way of thinking. Such an intense page turner.

Books about missing children are rough and this one sure took me on an uncomfortable journey, especially as a mom of 4 girls. I’m a true crime junkie and stories that sound like they could be real are my thing. The bulk of this story was great, which is why I’m rating it as high as I am, but I really disliked the ending. It was way too complex for me to believe. I like my stories wrapped up, but not like that.

What a ride. I’m usually cautious about writing reviews because I never want to be responsible for ruining a reader’s experience.

Wyn, a teenage girl goes missing, and while others have moved on with their lives, her mother, Jessica, never gives up. And when Jessica receives a text message from Wyn, she dives right into doing whatever she can to find her daughter.

While at times the author does go into unnecessary descriptions, it doesn’t take away from the story. What’s important is that she continually hit the key details hard and on point and each page is more gripping than the one before.

Wow! After a high school girl disappears from her small town her mother must sift through her secrets and discover the terrible truth. There were so many twists and turns thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Wow friends, just wow. This book was hit after hit after hit, and the ending! I’m still reeling!

Jessica’s daughter Bronwhyn mysteriously disappeared the night of the Homecoming game. Jess has no idea why Bronwhyn left, if she left on her own or if she was abducted. And then one night a year after her disappearance, Jess gets a text from her daughter. Mom. “Please help. I think he’s going to kill me.” Hollllllyyyyyyyy crapppppp.

This book had so many fantastic twists and turns. Every time I picked it up I got sucked in all over again and had a hard time going back to normal life. The only thing that I didn’t like (and the reason it didn’t earn five stars) were the very jumpy alternating timelines. One chapter might be the present and the next is the day Wyn disappeared and the next is two weeks after she disappeared and then it’s the day she disappeared and then it’s the present—it was too discombobulating. Otherwise, this book was a roller coaster ride from start to finish.

This one was such a wild ride! I really had a hard time putting this one down, but I feel like this was one of those "unmasking" parts in a show or movie where there was just mask, after mask. There were just too many twists and I felt it was all for shock factor. Not my favorite read, but I still enjoyed it.

Sometimes the difference between a 4 and 5 star review for me is simply if I'll tell someone about the book or exclaim that they need to read it. After loving Girl Gone Mad, I was so happy to receive this ARC and I'm happy to report that it does not disappoint and I think that anyone who loves thrillers should read both of Avery Bishops books because they are so good.

Things took off at a fast pace from page one which seems impossible to be able to keep up throughout the entirety of the book so I kept expecting it to lag at some point and it didn't. Avery builds suspense very cleverly and while I had some inclinations about a few characters, I was absolutely not expecting the way the ending came together.

My thoughts:

-This was a ride, guys. A wild, freaking ride. One Year Gone was a fun and unique thriller. I really loved how fast paced and highly entertaining the story was from start to finish. I grabbed this one before my trip to Nashville and had a hard time putting it down! This one throws the reader many curveballs and the truth is not revealed until the very last second, which I absolutely adored!

-Fair warning: you'll hate all of the characters in this book (aside from Wyn perhaps), but I loved that about this one. Did I struggle with the character development at times? Yes. Did I want to punch multiple people in the face throughout the entire book? 100% YES. Was I ultimately pleased with how the story ended and justice was served? Not entirely, but I will give Bishop points for creativity. It kept me guessing the entire time and I was highly invested in the outcome.

-Go into this one with an open mind because its a highly implausible situation, which caused a lot of lower star ratings by fellow reviewers. A bit outlandish and frustrating at times, but overall, a solid thriller. I need to grab GIRL GONE MAD soon, as I really enjoyed Bishop's writing style.

Narrated from dual POVs, that of the mother, Jessica, and Wyn the daughter, this thriller deals with Wyn’s disappearance and her mother who never gives up when everyone else has.

After a year of being gone, Wyn suddenly sends a text to her mother to help her before she gets killed, from a person with a badge, nonetheless. The novel then traces back to Wyn’s days preparing for the day of the Pep Rally and what happened to her on that night.

As with many small town novels, this story had a huge cast of characters: several of Wyn’s classmates who were mostly mean girls, several town cops not all of them ideal cops of course, and then Jessica and her volatile relationship with Wyn’s father, Joe. With several casts of questionable characters, it made for a very interesting “whodunnit” because it could be any one of them.

The most important question of course, was WHAT happened to Wyn, and is she alive or dead. This is where I had some trouble wrapping my head around the final reveal, which to me seemed a bit unrealistic. Overall a fun thriller if you’re like me who suspects every single character and then realize you still didn’t figure everything out!

As my kids get older, stories about missing teenagers hit me harder than they used to, and this book pushed all of my freaking me the hell out buttons.

This was a fast-paced thriller with multiple POVs and timelines and all of the twists and turns and misdirection you could want, all wrapped up with a super bonkers ending that I didn’t see coming. There were some plot devices I didn’t love, including a drunk mom and some caricature-like mean girl business, but overall this was highly entertaining and engaging and would be a perfect beach/pool read.

This is my favorite genre, and this book did not disappoint. It was hard for me to put it down because there were the perfect amount of twists and turns. I always appreciate a book that is setup in a creative way, and One Year Gone changed perspectives and time periods each chapter which was a great way for the story to unfold for it's readers.

I loved this gripping story. Well written, great plot, and some brilliant twists. The ending was beautifully done and I’ll admit I shed a few tears. I’ll remember Wyn and Jessica’s story. Easy 5 stars and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Mistakes were made! I started One Year Gone and thought I would read a few chapters before bed , next thing I know it's the middle of the night and I finished the entire book! It was so good!!! One Year Gone is the story of Jessica and her daughter Wyn. 17 year old Wyn disappears without a trace. Jessica holds out hope her daughter will come home. The police treat Wyn's disappearance as a runaway. One year later, Jessica starts getting texts from Wyn. Jessica does everything she can to find her daughter. Nobody just disappears!!! Can Jessica find out what happened to Wyn and where she has been for a year? This is a twisty ride from page one until the very end. I loved Girl Gone Mad and One Year Gone is just as amazing! I cannot wait for the next book by Avery Bishop!!! I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.

I did not know what to expect from this book because I went into it blind, but I was pleasantly surprised by the storytelling! It was told from several different POVs from different timelines. At first it was a little difficult to get a hold for the timelines and how to keep them straight, but I really sunk into the plot and grew to enjoy following along with the story. As this story unraveled, it became more and more upsetting. This story might be triggering for anyone who struggles with abduction or death of teenage children. I did find this story compelling and I enjoyed seeing how all the details and timelines finally fell into place to reveal what happened.

Wow! Just wow! I read this book in a span of few hours because it’s THAT good! First, the multiple timelines slowly revealed what really happened to Wyn. At the same time, the chapters were short and ended in cliffhangers so you’re compelled to keep on reading. Second, the small town setting where everyone knows everybody adds to “trust no one” vibes. It seems like most of the characters were unreliable and hiding something. Reading this kept me on edge the while time! I just wanted Jess to find her daughter and bring her back safe and sound! I don’t want to say more because this is one of them thrillers that you need to read to experience the rollercoaster twists!

I absolutely loved Avery Bishop’s debut novel, Girl Gone Mad, and knew I would be reading anything and everything this author wrote. I was thrilled when I got my hands on an early copy of this upcoming release…and spoiler alert – I loved it!!!

This is a fast-paced, thrilling read filled with crazy twists and turns that keep you hooked throughout. The suspense builds, with some chapters ending on little cliffhangers, and the way it is structured just pulls you in even more. I found myself glued to the pages and were it not for the chat I was participating in midway, I definitely would have read this book in one day! I made myself stop so as not to have any potential spoilers in my head during the initial chat and I’m so glad I did – that last part really took me by surprise!

I loved how the story moves back and forth to before and after Wyn’s disappearance and is told from a few different points of view. It really adds to the overall suspense of the story, building up to what I felt was a fantastic ending. Yes, there are some clues along the way, some of which I did pick up on but I just didn’t see where they would lead us to.

I love books that keep you guessing all the way through and this one certainly does. There is definitely more going on here than just Wyn’s disappearance, but it all centers around that one event and from there we learn about both Wyn and Jess, and why what happened, happened. As things were starting to unravel, I realized I was not even close to putting this one together…and that is just fine with me. I love being shocked!
