I absolutely loved this book! I found it hard to put down. I highly recommend reading it! You won’t be disappointed.
Wonderful, another classic from Morgan Matson. The dual narratives were a little bit jarring - there was a full on kidnapping in one and the other was like a holiday rom-com. But I got into it as I went along. For me, it was the moments in New York between the two girls and the people they met that really made this a Matson novel. Fans of Since You've Been Gone will really love the encounters Kat and Stevie have, and how the narratives tie together. A true love letter to New York, with a perfect ending.
Morgan Matson is the QUEEN of YA fiction. While this one didn't totally hit the mark for me, it was still a good coming of age story. Set in New York City it was an adventure. There is a cameo of a different character that sort of ruined the book for me. I was more invested in that nugget (spoilers so I won't continue) but whyyy?!
I LOVED this book!! It was so great!! The adventures both characters had in NYC were fun, and I loved how they connected and had moments. Only strange part was their friend back in their hometown babysitting the kids and their adventure. Could of done without her story.
Moves a little slow for my tastes but still just as great as any of Morgan Matsons other novels! This is a book I would have adored in High School.
MORGAN MATSON + THEATRE + NEW YORK CITY. NEED I SAY ANY MORE?!
Honestly, though. It's as if Matson reached into my brain, pulled out all my favourite things, and threw 'em into this brilliant title. (I mean, there are meet-cutes! Upscale restaurants! TINY POMERANIANS WHO STEAL THE SHOW!!!!!!).
Is it the best of Matson's novels? No -- that crowning achievement has got to go to "Since You've Been Gone." But her prose is just as fresh, fun and addicting as ever, the New York setting is absolutely captivating, and the plot twists and turns until the absolute last page.
(Also, uh, the names of *side character's* string of boyfriends absolutely MADE. MY. DAY. I couldn't stop laughing!).
Truly, Matson never misses. Whether you're a fan of hers or you're just looking for a fun, fresh, contemporary read, definitely give this one a shot!
Take Me Home Tonight - Morgan Matson
I’ve read all of Morgan Matson’s books so I was excited to pick this up. I ended up having so much fun reading this book, more than I was expecting.
This book happens in one day, and we follow Kat and Stevie as they sneak away to New York City for the night. Kat leaves her phone at her friend’s house since her parents can track her, and Stevie’s phone ends up breaking. Then the girls get separated and we follow each of their POVs. I really enjoyed watching the adventures these two got into, as well as watching them learn and grow as the night went on. This was a really quick read for me and definitely is one I would recommend!
This is such a fun book! The NYC vibes were immaculate and the character struggles were so real that I think many readers will find themselves in the book. This was a perfect escape novel, though at times it was a little chaotic, but overall fun to read. I am excited to share this one with high schoolers, as I think many will relate to the choices Stevie and Kat had to make.
As a whole, I didn't fully dislike this book. I like Kat, Stevie, and Teri and I was rooting for them through the story. However, I found myself a little bit bored at times. Their adventures felt a little bit flat and I don't fully understand the relevance of Teri's chapters. It was a decent read, but a lot of it felt far-fetched and unbelievable.
Morgan Matson has been an auto-buy author for me for a few years now for good reason. Her books have this magical quality that just suck you right in.
Stevie has plans one Friday night to go into NYC to visit her Dad and have dinner together but when he cancels their plans, Kat comes up with her own plan. For the first time ever, Stevie and Kat decide they're going to take the train into the city together, alone, for the first time. And as you would expect, absolutely nothing goes right.
TMHT definitely fell more into the category of Save the Date (her previous release) than some of her earlier books. While it still has some more heavy themes (finding who you are, friendship, acceptance, family), overall it's more of a fun read with shenanigans around every corner. This book reads like a John Hughes movie from the 80's in that every time you turn around something has gone wrong. And I LOVE that! It made me laugh consistently and I could picture the craziness happening in my mind.
This book takes place almost entirely over the course of one night which was a really interesting method of storytelling. It really emphasized how much can happen in one day and I enjoyed the continuity of knowing we were really going hour by hour.
One thing I was not a big fan of was the sub-plot. While Kat and Stevie are in New York we also get to see what their friend Teri, who is supposed to be back in Connecticut covering for them, is up to and honestly, it was okay. I'd like to point out that it definitely was not meant to be realistic but for me, it was just too out there and I found it actually pulled me out of the story. I also found the first couple chapters to be too info-dumpy for me.
Overall, this was an enjoyable and fun book. I kept finding myself wanting to pick it up to find out what could possibly happen next on this wild night. This didn't become my new favourite Morgan Matson book, but I'm still enjoying the turn she's taken in the last few years into the realm of more comedic books.
Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for providing me with a free e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Overall, this was an okay read. I expected more from this book, which is why I was ultimately disappointed by it. Fortunately, i really enjoyed the last 1/4 of the book. It was able to redeem the whole book for me.
Whilst Teri's POV was a bit jarring at first, I was more invested in her storyline. I would have loved to read an entire book following her and her adventures.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Not my favourite Morgan Matson book, but it was definitely still enjoyable! The main characters were a bit much for me, but I think that's just me getting older unfortunately! I would definitely recommend to all YA fans and Morgan Matson fans.
I love Morgan Matson’s books, and even though I didn’t totally love her last one, I was so looking forward to this. The synopsis sounded so intriguing, and I love that cover.
I am happy to report that I loved this book! It’s a super fun read. I loved the focus on Kat and Stevie’s friendship, and the way the story took me on their adventures. Honestly, stories that involve miscommunications or bad timing can make me anxious, but this one was a fun ride.
There are a lot of characters, and there is a lot going on but somehow Morgan Matson makes it all work! I laughed, I smiled, I swooned. Recommended!
I am so excited that Morgan Matson has another book out! She’s one of my favourite contemporary authors. I’ve read all of her books except for two. Kat and Stevie were honestly an incredible best friend duo and I loved them and their respective perspectives throughout the story. This story was so chaotic and everything that could go wrong, did. But that was honestly one of my favourite parts of the story. The setting of New York was also fantastic and really drew a person in!
Rating: 4*
What a fun read full of laughs, adventures and friendship. Who wouldn’t want to live vicariously through these characters and venture into NYC to follow dreams and make some awesome memories? I very much enjoyed that the characters were all looking for and finding different things and truths about themselves. Plus the added side story of the friend-at-home was unexpected and refreshing.
Adventure in Babysitting meets Ferris Buelller's Day off in an unforgettable night of boys, broadway and Brad.
Throughout this dashing story, best friends, Stevie and Kat are ready for a night in the big city... only their expectations are met with disastrous circumstances once they reach New York.
Kat, a feisty, impulsive 17 teen year old, is psyched to spend an evening in the theater earning brownie points from her drama teacher.
Stevie on the other hand is a kind, cautious girl who is keen on spending a quiet night with her friend, before getting convinced to adventure in New York City.
While the night gets away from them both, an unforgettable journey takes place for each girl. This is a story of friendship, the intricate weaving of family and it has a kidnapping plot on the side. Take Me Home Tonight is fast paced, funny and full of just enough drama to keep readers intrigued and satisfied. I loved Morgan Matson's bright writing, full of pop culture references and lively teen voices. The characters differences makes them a fun pair to follow, and their character development shines throughout the crazy events of their night.
Anyone who is looking for a light teen dramedy should read Take Me Home Tonight. Full of life, dogs and misfortunes, Matson crafts a brilliant story!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGallery for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.
Morgan Matson's books are so easy to devour (and this is coming from a girl who mostly reads fantasy) Take me Home Tonight was no different. Going in I knew it took place over one night in new York and I was so ready for it. Matson did such a great job with this. Her characters were fleshed out and her pacing was fast. It was thoroughly entertaining and I felt like a was watching an 80s film. She put a lot of thought into the narration which I loved. The story starts off with Kat's POV and then it eventually goes to both as well as Teri's. I absolutely loved the subplot. I did not know where she was going with Teri's story at first and towards the end I was afraid it was all a dream. But it was great. I found the book a little hard to get into at first cause I wasn't a huge fan of Kat but once the girls split up and Casey was in the picture it got better. I loved wathcing both of Kat's and Stevie's growth throughout the story, but especially Stevie's having to deal with some tough emotions with her dad and step-siblings. I related to her so much and she felt so real to me. Overall I really enjoyed the story but I gave it four stars because of the beginning with Kat's point of view.
Well this was an adorable book! I have been reading some YA recently and I thought this one sounded really fun. It's about two best friends, Kat and Stevie, who decide to take a trip into NYC for one night to have a fancy dinner and see a play. Right from the get go, everything goes wrong! Broken cell phone, getting separated on the subway...the whole night quickly turns into a disaster.
As each girl navigates the city on her own, they each end up having their own adventures involving family, boys, and the cutest dog ever! It's described as Ferris Beuller meets Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist and I would say it lives up to that. It could make a really cute movie, as the two girls roam around the city and basically keep missing each other!
I loved the NYC setting. It's one of my favourite cities and it was described perfectly and I could picture myself at the various locations! I like that it took place over the course of one day. I also really liked how the girls personalities came through! The varied cast of characters were all pretty cool and I like how, at the end, everything came together.
If I had one complaint about the novel, it would be that their friend Teri's story just didn't seem to fit in and was slightly far fetched. Personally, I felt like it wasn't needed! It didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book though.
Overall, if you enjoy YA novels, this is a cute one that you should pick up!
Well Morgan Matson strikes again with another amazing contemporary novel! This has become my second favorite Morgan Matson book!
Matson has such a talent for writing light hearted and fun contemporary novels with a small underlying hard hitting theme that is so subtle you don’t even notice it but it still impacts you. f you’ve read one of Matson’s novels then you know what I’m talking about.
I’m not a fan of romances so there are very few contemporary novels I will actually pick up, as a lot of theme have romance as the main plot line. Take Me Home Tonight however is all about the friendship between Stevie and Kat! And a book about friendship is a book that I just want to eat up.
Kat and Stevie are all prepared to spend a night out in New York City without their parents for the first time *insert plot twists, plot twists, plot twist*!!
This book was so chaotic and fun, it had me on my toes the whole time. I did not want to put it down until I reached the flipped the final page! I never knew what would happen next! And the added plot line with Terri was so unexpected and random but I loved every minute of it!
I felt so much connection to both Kat and Stevie. Kat is impulsive and driven and does everything 100% without thinking and this can get her into trouble. Stevie is the rational one of the duo and reminds Kat of reality while facing her own struggles about accepting her feelings. There was minor details of each of these two characters and their friendship that were so much like me that it felt like Morgan Matson had been spying on my life and plucked out those details.
Take Me Home Tonight is crazy, fun, sweet, sappy, and hilarious. It is always so much fun picking out the Easter eggs in all of Matson’s books and there were so many in this one. After reading about Kat and Stevie’s adventure in New York City, I now have a few places added to my bucket list of things I would like to do in New York when I finally get there.
Just like another Morgan Matson book, I devoured and absolutely LOVED Take Me Home Tonight!
It was really refreshing to read a book where friendship is such a big focus. Kat and Stevie have a lot going on, but who doesn't want to have an epic night in New York City. As in every Morgan Matson book, the main character alway go on a journey of learning and growth. Take Me home Tonight was no different. I always leave a Morgan Matson book feeling very elated and heat warmed.
