Loved it! Murder mystery with a sexy french guy and a heroine who takes no crap from anyone. Love the banter and the chemistry. The plot was great. Had me from the first sentence!
I enjoyed this book— Byrne's signature balance of darkness & drama always makes for an exciting read. I do think that the length felt a bit odd to me, in that it wasn't quite full length, but it was too long to be a novella. As a result, there were moments that the pacing felt a little off to me. Regardless, I enjoy Kerrigan Byrne's writing and enjoyed reading Dancing With Danger!
Kerrigan never disappoints with her strong leading female characters and sexy time steam! I may be biased because I absolutely adore her but this is another 5 star read for me! Mercey Goode was just the female we needed to wrap up this awesome series.
The beauty of a writer at the top of her game is the way she can create characters who live in your memory. Mercy and Raphael are two such protagonists, each with striking characteristics that make their path to love more difficult than it needs to be. But so much fun to take the journey with them, even in a book where serious topics are served up — and murder is definitely serious. The two begin their journey at a murder scene, and the story doesn't slow down from there. Mercy Goode and Raphael Sauvageau (love the names) could not be more dissimilar, yet deep down, they have so much in common. Watching them find it part of the enjoyment of the story, but there's also a cracking good story and a mystery to solve. Kerrigan Byrne is one of our best. (I received an advance reader copy from NetGalley. Opinions mine.)
Another wonderful book from Kerrigan Byrne with her usual strong, compelling prose. Mercy is a fierce and determined heroine and Raphael her match. With a cast of larger than life characters and a richly romantic plot, this was just what I expected from Byrne. Highly satisfying.
Dancing With Danger has all of the components of a great Byrne novel; a sexy, wicked hero who would do anything for the beautiful heroine. My only complaint is that it seemed too short but I am sure we will hear more from this couple in the next book.
Mercy is a strong, smart, observant woman caught in a time where the men around her generally are more interested in her good looks than her strong opinions. But Raphael paid attention. He noticed. He watched over her with a quiet intensity that disturbed and excited her. Until Mercy came along, he only cared about one other person, his brother.
I really enjoyed the back-and-forth between Mercy and Rafe. Their interactions are so charged, it leaves even the reader a little breathless. The writing is compelling, as usual from this author, and it's one of those books that you will sacrifice your sleep for because it's hard to put it down.
The plot moves quickly enough and there are plenty of action and suspense. Some parts of the plot towards the end involving Rafe and Gabriel were a bit convoluted and left me with lots of questions. But overall, I very much enjoyed it.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was really sucked into this book by the description and unfortunately it just didn't quite live up to it for me. I hadn't read the first two books in the series, where our protagonists had originally met, so their story felt very insta-love to me. I did enjoy them as a couple, I just wish there had been a little more showing rather than telling they were in love.
Dancing with Danger was an enjoyable historical romance. I did feel I missed out on not reading the earlier books in the series as the two protagonists met in an earlier book, although the author does summarise the previous events of the series so its not required and this book can be read as a standalone, I personally would recommend reading the whole series (which means more books to enjoy - yay!). The book was fast paced and I felt it could ve been developed more especially as the leads relationship moved very fast. The heroine Mercy was very modern, independent, headstrong and likeable, I enjoyed the chemistry between her and the hero and the dialogue was enjoyable. I just wish there had been more.
A thrilling historical romance by Kerrigan Bryne. Solid well-rounded characters. Mercy and Rapheal are such fantastic pair. Enjoyed their story and loved the ending.
I am a new fan of the author and really liked this story.
The chemistry and heat between the two main characters - Mercy and Raphael - is hot and there is also lots of adventure, mystery and danger! A great novel and cannot wait for Gaberial's book!
I have been provided with a review copy of Dancing With Danger from NetGalley for an impartial review. This is the third book in the A Goode Girls Romance series and I just loved getting to reenter this world. I was just drawn into this wonderful story and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was just so easy to get lost in this great story. I just didn’t want it to end. I just lost myself in and I just couldn’t get enough of these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.
I take no joy in negative reviews, however, my reputation means more than getting a free book to read, I buy several hundred dollars a year in books, plus, two hundred with Christmas gift cards. Therefore, I am able to read only those books I enjoy. I don't like Mercy, she is too much of an out of place feminist for me, I like Raphael Sauvauge, and his brother Gabriel, both born into a criminal life, and both willing to risk their lives to climb out of it. The love affair between Mercy and Raphael is too rushed, it feels like pure lust, not love at all. I skip those types of pages. This author is a good writer, I expect more.
Thank you Netgalley!

We met Raphael Sauvageau in the previous Goode Girls book, Nora and Titus’s story when Mercy, Nora and Felicity were trying to steal gold from Raphael and his brother Gabriel. They let the women go extracting a promise that the doctor will perform a surgery at their request but there was definitely chemistry between the two at that meeting!
Mercy Goode is mischievous, outspoken, observant and intelligent, so when a woman she is helping to get out of a bad marriage is found dead of course she is going to investigate. What she doesn’t count on is Raphael Sauvageau, notorious gangster and known lothario being at the murder scene. While trying to solve the murder these two have to face their feelings for one another. For Raphael those feelings are scary, he has spent his life avoiding attachments so the band of mercenaries he leads doesn’t find a weakness in him they can use. Mercy is everything that Raphael doesn’t want. She’s adventurous, inquisitive and kind.
I really enjoyed the relationship between Raphael and Gabriel. Raphael felt such guilt and self loathing for what Gabriel had gone thru that left him scarred, he was willing to sacrifice himself. Gabriel is mysterious but the brains behind their criminal enterprise. While this book centers on them trying to get out of that life, I enjoyed the subterfuge of their gangster life.
As with most of Kerrigan Bryne’s book, Mercy was a strong, independent heroine. I loved that she was smart, knew what she wanted and wasn’t scared of Raphael. That he accepted her as she was, even marveling in her, was perfect.
It all wrapped up neatly and left me wanting to read Felicity and Gabriel’s book. The scarred hero with the timid heroine is usually my favorite.
“Oh, she let justice take it’s course….Because justice, as everyone knew was a woman.”
I read the first chapter of this book and I was hooked. The dynamic between Raphael and Mercy was intriguing and for some reason tender and sexy. I was so curious to know more. The book has a delicious undercurrent of danger and intrigue running throughout that made it a fantastic read. I literally couldn’t put it down once I started reading it. This is not an unusual event when I read books from this author so I am not surprised. I adored Raphael and Mercy and I highly recommend this book. This is book three in "The Goode girls" series but could be read as a standalone book.
I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review*
Dancing with Danger is book 3 in the Goode Girls series, which is a spin-off from the Victorian Rebels series. The story opens with Mercy schooling a constable at a murder scene and it definitely grabbed my attention. I did enjoy a lot about this book, but like the rest so far in this series I am always left wanting a little more. These stories are shorter, this one comes in at 214 pages, and I just find myself wanting more from the characters, plot, and romance.
The hero of this book, Raphael Sayvageau, we met in the previous book in the series (Courting Trouble). He and his brother Gabriel were born into an underground criminal world and at the beginning of this story Raphael is ready to leave it all behind & has a plan for his brother’s future. But when he meets Mercy, his world is kind of thrown for a loop. Raphael is so taken with Mercy, her adventurous spirit and boldness fascinates him and he can’t keep away. They end up both getting arrested since they’re found at the crime scene together and after Raphael escaped, he realizes he can’t stop thinking about Mercy. It is then that he decides to spend one night with Mercy before he gets back to the darker underworld he knows.
I’ve been loving the heroes in this story and I am very intrigued to continue this series, we get hints in this book about Raphael’s brother Gabriel and Mercy’s twin sister Felicity having some chemistry & their book is next! Gabriel is a tortured, scarred hero and I can’t wait to read their romance.
I received an e-ARC via NetGalley in exchange for my honest thoughts & review.
Fantastic read. A lovely historical romance, that doesn’t feel like a historical. At times, quite humorous and definitely sexy. And of course, the alpha male hero with a touch of bad boy. What more could you ask for? Read for yourself and enjoy all the magic for yourself, enjoy!
This is another amazing love story that has all the elements that make a Kerrigan Byrne book a must-have!! Her characters are incredible, believable, and are layers deep. Mercy is a beautiful young lady who wants to find who killed her friend and will let nothing stop her, especially a notorious criminal. She is smart, stubborn, and of course beautiful. Raphael Sauvageau is a crime lord who has run afoul of Mercy's stubbornness. He tries to stop her from investigating a murder and gets caught up in an attraction that he has never felt before and at the worst time of his life. The passion sizzles between them, the danger is mind-numbing, the love they find is truly magnificent. Kerrigan is a truly wonderful talent in this genre. I highly recommend her books!!
Kerrigan Byrne writes books I love to read! Mercy Goode is only truly good at one thing: finding mischief wherever she goes. Such as getting arrested at a murder scene with Raphael Sauvageau, a brutally handsome, ruthless smuggler with a dangerous past and a dubious future. The silver-tongued devil doesn’t deserve a lick of her confidence, but she has evidence that he’s not the killer.
She can’t deny that he’s relentlessly wicked. Mercy and Rafe meet quite by accident. Mercy is determined to solve a murder that Rafe has asked her to leave to him. Mercy continues on her quest leaving Rafe no option but to protect her. These two are so perfect for one another. Readers will love this book.
Mercy was such a fabulous heroine! Sure of herself and so smart and dedicated to justice for her murdered friend. In a time when women were expected to keep quiet and defer to men in all things, Mercy is a breath of fresh air. I also enjoyed Raphael, who is a very dangerous criminal but is putty in Mercy’s hands. It was also wonderful seeing glimpses into the bond he shares with his brother Gabriel, I wish there had been more of their relationship in the book. I thought the book started wonderfully, got side tracked with sex, and then slowly built back up to wonderful and fast paced and exciting. Overall a lovely book and now I want to read Felicity’s story!
