I've been looking forward to reading about Mercy (and Felicity) since they were introduced in previous books. I liked how intelligent, resourceful, and determined Mercy was to solve her case. I liked Raphael and thought he was very charming. I loved the chemistry and banter between her and Raphael. I thought is was great to see the family relationship with Raphael and Gabriel, and Mercy, her sisters and their husbands. I wasn't impressed with some of Rachael's actions towards the end of the book but it all worked out and I really enjoyed the book. I've very interested in the next book.

I loved it. Mercy is a feisty, smart, determined woman and Raphael is a handsome, ruthless, criminal. These two should have nothing in common and they don't. Opposites from totally different worlds collide and stick. It is a theme for a lot of Kerrigan Byrne books and it is fascinating how she makes it work.

Mercy Goode, daughter of a baron and Felicity's identical twin, has a knack for getting into trouble. She imagines herself as a sleuth of a detective, like her fictional hero, Detective Eddard Sharpe. When she finds the body of a woman she was going to help disappear, she immediately begins to analyze the scene, much to the dismay of the police, which causes her to end up arrested along with Raphael Sauvageau, a known criminal. Mercy knows he isn't the killer, but she doesn't know who is and she won't stop until she does and that puts her in danger.

Raphael Sauvageau, criminal gang leader of the Favre's, has never had a reaction to a woman like the one he has to Mercy. In his line of work he just can't afford this type of attraction, it could get him killed. He also has plans that definitely do not include falling for the beautiful, smart, infuriating Mercy, but some things just can't be helped. Their kisses and their mutual passion could very well set the criminal underworld on fire.

4.5*
This is a really good, quick read. A criminal in the mob and a female detective make for a unique story. They are both trying to figure out the murder of a loved one and this brings the main characters together. Because of this, and Raphael's involvement with the mob, there is a near constant suspense throughout the book. I loved how Raphael stayed true to his character from beginning to end, as did Mercy. They are both fearless, strong, and modern characters.

My thanks to NetGalley and Oliver Her bed Books for the pleasure of reading and reviewing Dancing with Danger by Kerrigan Byrne.

I love Mercy Goode with her opinions and views on life, especially for women. Her thoughts and actions seem ahead of that time period but I like reading about a progressive woman. She’s a beauty but men are either threatened by her opinions and her intellect or want a wife that follows the current views on proper etiquette.

Raphael is an unrepentant criminal but when you realize what he dealt with as a child you can understand his views on life.

I enjoyed that Mercy loves mystery’s and is determined to solve the murder of a friend, even while the men in her life try to dissuade her. Mercy has so much knowledge to impart and feels comfortable saying what she thinks to Raphael. His acceptance and even adoration of her personality and views was just the sweetest thing to read. The chemistry and passion between the two was quite steamy and enjoyable to read!

I love the Goode sisters and also the relationship that Raphael has with his brother, Gabriel. I assume we will see more of Gabriel based on events in this story. His story sounds like it will be a heartbreaker!

This was a quick, enjoyable read and I loved the conversations between Mercy and Raphael. It was nice to see a bit of some of the previous characters, but this was definitely Mercy’s and Raphael’s story. This also had a great epilogue with an unexpected decision.

I always enjoy a Kerrigan Byrne story and looking forward to reading more!

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this new work.

This is book 3 in the Goode Sisters series. This is the story of Mercy and Raphael. She is the daughter of a Baron and he a crime lord. Two very different lifestyles.
I enjoyed this book. It was fast paced, full of action. It kept the book flowing smoorhly.
Mercy was an intelligent, strong, vocal heroine. This is what drawers Raphael to her. She is drawn to him because he doesn't want to stifle her but he wants to listen to her. He values her honesty and her opinion.
This book had several twists and turns which kept a reader intrigued. I also love the set up for the next book in Gabriel and Felicity.
My only criticism is that the book ends too soon. I thought the relationship between the H and h could have been developed a little further.
So I give it 4 1/2 stars rounded up to 5.
I want to thank Netgalley for the chance to review this book.

I liked him a lot! I think this was a fun novel, with great characters! I loved Mercy and Raphael, I loved their banter together, and I really liked their romance together, it was super fun and hilarious! I felt that it was a great action filled novel, and I liked that the pace was super fast and flowed really well! I did wish that this was a longer novel, I wanted more from them and I wish it had gone on for a bit longer.

Byrne brings her well-established criminal heroes into play here in the latest installment of the Goode Girls. Seemingly straight-laced Mercy is an astonishingly good match for suave Raphael and their story is so satisfyingly hot.

3 stars.

I enjoyed this book, but not gonna lie I was more interested in Gabriel and Felicity than the main couple. It was too short in my opinion, and I wanted more scenes between Raphael and Mercy to show their connection. The book was a fast burn and I didn't really feel the love between the characters, yeah there was lust but not love. My first book of this author was The Highwayman and I loved that book, so my expectation of this book was quite naturally high. But both the hero and heroine in this one was a disappointment. If the story was a bit longer, then probably I'd have enjoyed this book more.

ARC received for review

Mercy is the third Goode sister to get her HEA, and of course, it's with a scoundrel villain. Raphael has a good heart especially where his brother is concerned. Mercy is no wilting flower, and has strong thoughts and isn't afraid to skulk about in the shadows. Loved the epilogue. Can't wait for the last sister (but she's going to have to grow a serious backbone otherwise I'm not going to like her) and hopefully it's with Raphael's brother.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

After meeting the leader of the Favres gang, Mercy Goode hasn't been able to stop thinking of Raphael Sauvageau. She soon finds herself entangled in a battle even she might not be able to fight, when her friend is found murdered, and she and Raphael are discovered with the body. Both have their own reasons for why they want to discover the murdered, and the attraction between the two is soon too much to overcome. When it seems likely that a gang war is about to kick off in the East End of London, they need to use all of their wits in order to survive, and hopefully, be together.

I enjoyed the previous book in this series when I read it last year, and loved Kerrigan's Devil You Know series, so was overjoyed when I was approved for this one. Dancing With Danger is such a quick read, which hooks you in immediately - opening at a crime scene, with Mercy lambasting members of the Metropolitan Police for their shoddy work, and then being left in the back of a police cart by Raphael after being kissed for the first time. Obviously, I needed to read on. Both of the characters we met before, as side characters who were being set up for their own story, and I think that was really helpful, really. We know of Mercy as the brash twin, who has all the oomph and fire, in comparison to the shy and retiring Felicity. But, we also see her caring side here, and the way she loves, and loves hard, for the people she cares for - including Raphael. They were a fantastic couple, doomed to failure, but who had the strength to fight for more, and the epilogue showed this off perfectly. For Raphael, he never wanted to be in the position he is, but his father groomed him and older brother Gabriel to take over control of the group. He has a a plan to get them out - one way or another - and if to do that he has to set London ablaze, well so be it. I think this book has also set the scene for Felicity and Gabriel's story, and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

It's a strange concept to read the third book in a series without reading the previous two books, but there's something unique about historical romance series that lends itself to being able to pick up a book in the middle of a series and run with it. Dancing With Danger is no different - it's clear that this book ties into the stories of side-characters mentioned within, but it is itself a complete story that absolutely captivated me.

Mercy Goode is good at getting herself into trouble, including being arrested at the site of the murder of a friend of hers alongside known smuggler and scoundrel, Raphael Sauvageau. Unwilling to let the death of Mathilde go, Mercy tracks down Raphael to find out what he knows and ends up drawn into his world and into his sights.

Dancing With Danger isn't a long book, but it packs a punch.

Mercy is a firecracker of a character and I absolutely adored her. She speaks her mind to anyone and everyone, stands up for herself resolutely, and does what she wants. She has the heart and soul of an investigator and she desperately wants to find justice for her friend, and that includes finding out what she can from Raphael, a man she knows anyone with common sense would avoid.

There is such fantastic banter in this book between Mercy and Raphael. Raphael never asks Mercy to be anyone other than herself - he embraces the parts of her that most men would find unseemly (a woman who speaks her mind? Never!). And while we know Raphael has his own plans, he can't help but be drawn to Mercy time and time again.

I had an absolute ball reading this and I know I'll definitely be catching up on the other books in the Goode Girls series at some point.

I wish there was more!!!
Spoiler Alert!!

Dancing with Danger follows Mercy Goode trying to solve a friends murder with the help of the front man for the Fauves, Raphael Sauvageau. The first two chapters of this book were a saving grace for me since I found the last book a bit of a bore. Mercy and Raphael have a instant chemistry and it’s delicious. I knew from the last book that I was going to love him. The Sauvageau brothers are very reminiscent of Sarah Maclean’s Bareknuckle Bastards. So If you like them you will like this story.

I love a book where the characters aren’t afraid to go for it either. “Would you let me fuck you, Mercy Goode?” Will forever be one of my favorite lines. Together they are so steamy and there is an underlying tenderness in Raphael, though I wish we had gotten more moments of the two lovers.

I love the background story for the two brothers and the insight into who Gabriel is as well and I love a story with continuing characters. Overall the story was great but I wish there had been a bit more of it. More love scenes with Mercy and Raphael to really showcase the chemistry and steaminess between them. I also wish we had seen just a bit more of Gabriel and Felicity together without her going into a fit. The story did not disappoint but it leaves you wanting just a bit more.

Mercy Goode is a brilliant woman stuck living within the confines and expectations of English society. With dreams of being an investigator and finding a way to put her well-honed sleuthing skills to use, she wants more from her life than simply getting married and having babies. But unfortunately for her, Mercy’s good intentions always seem to be getting her into trouble. And when her latest exploit results in her being arrested alongside one of London’s most notorious criminals, Mercy’s life as she know it is about to become a whole lot more exciting… and sexy…

Raphael Sauvageau is a dangerous man who should absolutely leave the innocent Mercy Goode alone and untouched… but when his interest in Mercy is whole heartedly reciprocated, all good intentions he possessed are about to go up in hot and smoldering flames…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dancing With Danger was a simmering, sexy, and intriguing, historical romance read! While a love between Mercy and Raphael does not work within the vastly different worlds they live in, the attraction they share refuses to be ignored. Between an unsolved murder and Raphael’s dangerous lifestyle, these two societal opposites agree on sharing only one night together, but life soon gets in the way…
Mercy was an intriguing and atypical historical romance heroine. I loved her brain and her ability to go toe to toe with the intimidating and enigmatic, Raphael. Her thirst for knowledge and adventure was a refreshing and integral part of this intriguing story.
Raphael was raised to only be one thing, a monster. But after years of barely living, once he meets the fascinating Mercy, he suddenly finds himself wanting all the things he thought he didn’t deserve in life. But, with plans already in motion to drastically change the course of his future, any time with Mercy will be vastly cut short.
This romance read was so much more spicy and entertaining than the typical stuffy and virginal historical books! Mercy and Raphael shared a sexy connection filled with delightful banter and a simmering attraction, all while being surrounded by the intrigue of a mysterious death and their race to solve it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
I was looking forward to this book after the ending of the last one, when Mercy and Felicity are confronted by the dashing underground criminals, brothers Raphael and Gabriel. It's set in 1881 London and all the characters are pretty modern in flavour - re attitudes and speech. Mercy is headstrong, confident and runs all over the town taking charge and investigating and I can't see that happening in 1881. This is the way of most modern historical romances though, so I must live with it, as it's an entertaining, fictional adventure after all.
The background plot is very simple and it has been embellished with lots of creative writing that expand many scenes to flesh out the story. I'm not a great fan of this style of writing as it tends to draw me out of scenes and it did do this in some instances, which was unfortunate. The book was pretty short and Mercy and Raphael only meet a handful of times and that includes the main bedroom scene. They were instantly smitten after their first encounter months ago. To me, this book was rushed and if it could have been expanded upon, it would have been way better. There's lots of action and romance packed into this small space and I enjoyed the last few chapters.
It's very well written, has fun banter and I liked the H/h. You could feel their HEA love connection. I would recommend that readers should start at the beginning of this series to understand all the characters. My thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in return for my opinion. 😍💘
I’m pretty powerless when it comes to Kerrigan Byrne. I find her heroines fierce and interesting and fun (and sometimes funny) to read and her heroes are a good balance of feminist and smart, with a dash of snarling alpha thrown in for good measure.
In this short novel, Mercy and Raphael are given the Kerrigan Byrne treatment. There’s a problem to be solved, love to be realized (but only after being denied, of course), and a chaotic moment that throws everything into relief and realization. I enjoyed this quick read—the story, the banter, and the set up for the next Goode sister’s story (one I’m dying to read).
Dancing with Danger did not disappoint.
Part of a series.
This is about Mercy and Raphael and the connection they had and the danger and situations they get into.
Didn"t have much of a story as the others.but still a good read.
Voluntarily reviewed.
This author is hit or miss for me. This was more miss this time.
I did not care for the insta-love. The characters were physical very early. I thought Mercy was too forward for her age and how her parents were described as very strict. I didn't feel a connection between the MC. I would have rather seen another heroine for Raphael.
Mercy indeed!
Mercy Goode! What a force of nature. Feisty enough to find herself arrested along with the French (very gorgeous) smuggler Raphael Sauvageau, a coldly explosive personality, with a passionate underlay. So when the two meet, under extraordinary circumstances (like being arrested) of course sparks are going to fly. Determined blue stocking amateur investigator Mercy is on the track of a killer. Annoyingly for Raphael he keeps running into this loveable nuisance of a woman, often more a spitting kitten. Not only do wills clash but it seems goals do to.Investigation and romance blends for a fabulous read!
Another amazing Victorian mystery romance from Byrne
I wanted to love this book, but sadly, it didn't work for me. I didn't feel the connection between Raphael and Mercy, and the dialogue at some points felt forced and stilted. Some of the ways the author choose to describe scenes, like the "corrugation of his ribs" took me out of the story. And while I know some people are into male characters being compared to animals, I think there are a certain amount of times in which you can do that and I don't see the point unless it's a shifter character on a paranormal book. Which I know is a preference of mine and others enjoy it.
While this book wasn't something I loved, I think others might want to give it a try and will probably like it.
I'm grateful to Netgalley, the author and the publishing house for giving me the chance to review it.
Wow, what an absolutely fun read! Mercy Goode is one strong, determined and total kick ass character! I loved her determination and her passion for those she cares about. Raphael Sauvageau is a criminal ring leader who is caught in a life he hates. From their first meeting, in the previous book, sparks fly and the fire roars to life in this book. I can't wait to read their sibling's story.!
