Dave Alpern takes a subject that is often covered - how to use success and idea from other aspects of life and apply them to be successful in business - and does a nice job with it in describing how his decision to join Joe Gibbs Racing changed not only his life but his ideas on what works to succeed. I thought that his description of the early days of JGR was very good for a reader like me who was more interested in the auto racing than the business tips. Some parts of the book dragged with a little too much preaching, but overall Imenjoyed it.

NASCAR has been one of my favourite sports for the past 7 years and I was very excited to get a chance to read this one. The book tells the history of Joe Gibbs Racing as well as provided leadership tips and philosophies of the author who is President of the race team. It was a unique behind the scenes on what it’s like the build and maintain a race team which is run very much like any other company.
Joe Gibbs Racing happens to be my favourite race team as my favourite driver Denny Hamlin drives for them so this was especially interesting to read. I also had the opportunity to visit the race shop a few years back when I travelled to Charlotte with my wife. I think if you are a NASCAR fan you will really enjoy this book. I couldn’t stop reading it and learned so many interesting tidbits.

Alpern has a much better writing style than you'd expect for this kind of book - frequently "how my business did great" books are written by businessmen who are charismatic but better verbal communicators than anything else. Here you get a very decent style and the advice is often humble and practical.
