I loved the Eric Carle like artwork. The hat is bright and colorful to keep my child’s attention on it. I liked that we are introduced to multiple animals throughout the book. So my child is learning animal names and action words because each animal does something different. Like the frog HOPS and the fish SWIMS. So my child is learning a lot of vocabulary while reading this book.
Bear goes out with his and the wind takes it. The hat goes from animal to animal while bear just wants his hat. It finally is returned to him.
A colorful book that my 1 yr old grandson was drawn to. Perfect length for him.
When Bear's rainbow hat gets carried away by a gust of wind he follows it as it travels from one animal to the next. It always seems to be just a little bit too far away to grab.
I loved the simplicity of this book. The simple illustrations bring focus to the colorful hat but if you pay close attention you can see the emotions Bear goes through as he attempts to get his hat back and the confusion of the other animals while they have the silly hat. This will be a great read aloud allowing children to repeat the line, "where did the hat go?"

Rainbow Hat is a cute book that would make a good read for preschoolers. The repetitive pattern, of an animal loosing the hat followed by a new animal getting the hat, invites readers to predict what will happen next with support from picture clues. The action words appear in bold and could easily be used to engage children in saying and acting out the words. While I think it would be a great addition to story time, it lacks the appeal of a story you are likely to revisit time and time again.
This book was originally published in Dutch will be published in English in June 2021.
Thank you to Net Galley and Clavis Publishing for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute book that introduced animals and colors to my 4 year old. We loved predicting where the hat was going to next and how bear was feeling based on his face and tears.
Rainbow Hat was a very cute book that introduces action words and allows readers to guess who will end up with the hat and what will happen while they have it. It's a very simple story that will work well for a read-aloud story-time or for independent readers, and the pictures are cheerful and colorful. I'm very grateful to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for the opportunity to read Rainbow Hat in return for my honest opinion.
Truly such a beautifully illustrated book and just the cutest story. And very well thought out.
Really thinking of getting this as a gift for one of my friends who has a small child.
Well done!
I loved this one. It was super bright and cute, and the perfect emergent text for my four year old to read semi-independently. I like how certain words were highlighted. My daughter loved it too.
Rainbow hat is a sweet story about a little bear who's rainbow hat gets swept away and carried by an eccentric cast of animal friends. This story was so charming. I loved the bit of suspense that was mixed in and the whimsy of the hat getting passed to all these animals. I loved the art style, it reminded me of old Eric Carle books. All in all, a delightful story that warmed my heart.
Bear has a hat, and it's windy. Bear has an unexpected lesson in sharing his hat with his friends. Lovely colors and pictures for children to be entertained.
The narrative and illustration style in this book is similar to Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do you Hear? Simple text, colorful pictures, and an engaging, yet easy to follow plot. Though the story is very simple, it does show the connectedness of a group of animals, and how a simple yet colorful hat, gets passed down from one animal to the other until it comes back to its original owner.
A fun little story of Bear and the adventure he goes on to rescue his runaway hat. Filled with onomatopoeia, this book moves at a pace that is perfect to read aloud and has fun illustrations that you can use for point and identify during reading.
The illustrations were very cute, reminiscent of Eric Carle. The bolded action words made for an engaging reading session with a young child where you could ask questions.
It felt a bit lacking, perhaps with the la k of descriptive words and it felt very stiff. There was also a missed opportunity of the colors of the hat. A child who likes animals might enjoy it, but that's about it.
Rainbow Hat is an engaging story that allows for interactive reading with young children, as much of the story is about what happens next and animal behavior. The illustrations are colorful and silly. This story is told in present tense, which is helpful with interactivity, but makes for a kind of unintuitive reading experience.
This book was adorable! I loved that it introduced action words (verbs) to kids in such a fun way. All the animals in this story did different things with the hat and still it went back to bear in the end. I really loved the pictures as well.
Rainbow Hat is a delightful little picture book featuring a simple story told in clear, satisfyingly repetitive/rhythmic text. The language emphasizes pattern, sounds ("plop!" "Quack!" and so on), and active verbs (animals' actions like swim, jump, and fly are bolded), while the bright, paper cut-out style illustrations are reminiscent of Eric Carle. The whole thing is a charming and enjoyable book, perfect to read aloud with young children.
Thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for the advance review copy!
I read this one to my little ones and they did not seem interested in this one. It was a little flat and not something I would recommend.
Youngsters would have a great time and really enjoy the adventures that the rainbow hat goes on. There are repetitive questions for the young reader to answer and practice predicting/inferencing skills.
This is the cutest book! Bear has a bright rainbow hat. As he goes around, everyone is trying it on!!
This would be great for a classroom library or a bedtime story in a home.
A really cute book about a bear and his rainbow hat that gets lost, going from animal to animal. I like how this book is very simple, but demonstrates multiple things, like the habitat and movement of a variety of animals and the hat. Young children will love following the hat's journey.
