This is a really Wonderful book. It's great for beginners but probably better for people with medium-skills. I love the step by step instructions. Very inspiring, easy to follow, clear and colorful.

I love all instructional books that include great designs for me to learn how to paint. This book certainly hit the spot. I love all the information in the beginning but really love the instructional ideas that they included. I love watercolor paints and painting anything and everything with nature. There were some really cute animals to paint too. I look forward to continuing working on painting the items included in this book with the easy to follow steps to create. The book is very pretty and give all the instructions needed. Great for beginners or immediate artists.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This book is impressive. I enjoy nature and painting with watercolors, so even though I am not a beginner I still love a great tutorial book. Everyone should be a lifelong learner, and there is always something to learn from someone who does their craft really well. The watercolor paintings in this book are beautiful, and the steps are a joy to follow along with. It’s always interesting to learn about another artist’s techniques, and this artist really teaches you by providing in-depth steps and explanations. Great for the watercolor beginner or enthusiast.

This is one of those books that I would keep by my coffee table and just browse through it. It's like watching a cooking show but never trying the recipes. It's so wonderfully illustrated and Lombardi gives a great supply list from which I actually picked up a few brushes based on her help. Now if I can just organize myself to actually pick up the brush and paint with it and put this beautiful book to work. Special thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest reveiw.

This book took me a little longer because I just had to try out the techniques described in it. This book was amazing with step by step instructions to paint different things in nature such as birds, trees, bark, small animals, grasses and flowers. In the beginning there was a description of the types of brushes and what they would be used for in nature painting, then a description of the different types of paper and what each would be best used for. There is then a list of supplies and a brief description of the techniques used in watercolor. When the author is explaining how to paint specific items, she refers to the techniques described. This was a wonderful guide to get me started with nature watercolor and I feel confident enough to go further in my painting. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advance copy for a fair and honest review.

A charming guide to painting flowers, trees and much more, for the watercolour artist. I'm a longtime amateur artist and found this helpful, with step by step guides to painting various kinds of plants, trees, birds, even rocks and tree bark. I think it would be good for a beginner too, as it covers the basics of supplies and techniques.
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy

Great reference book with beautiful pictures for those who wish to become better at painting/drawing nature. Nature Painting in Watercolor covers tools, painting techniques, tips, and even goes into color theory. The author gives a lot of good advice and ideas for different materials I never thought of before on my own. Nature Painting in Watercolor also shows you how to draw plants, flowers, and animals including leafs, trees, roots, branches, grass, birds, squirrels, etc. Basically, it covers everything you see in nature. The instruction is easy to follow and provides a step by step guide with beautiful illustrations/pictures. The pictures are high quality and very clear. The book as a whole is esthetically pleasing and organized very well, has a great layout. This book has helped my technique in painting flowers and trees a lot in my sketchbook. I would recommend for every artist interested in nature and everybody who enjoys keeping an art journal like I do.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Nature Painting in Watercolour is a fabulous book for learning and starting out (for beginners like me) with Painting using watercolours.
The book begins by going through materials needed, types of paints, colour pallets and mixing etc and then moves on to the helpfulness and idea of using a journal to keep photographs, sketches etc in of nature such as plants, trees, leaves etc for future reference.
Then the book is broken down into sections to try things such as Painting leaves, ferns, bark, animals etc and each piece is set our with easy and clear instructions and information such as techniques to use for each piece.
There are some adorable animals in this book and the art work is beautiful and seems easy to follow and create (she says lol). I look forward to trying my hand at a few of these pieces individually.

A helpful book for wainting nature with watercolors
Artist and illustrator Kristine A. Lombardi presents "Nature Painting in Watercolor. Learn to paint florals, ferns, trees, and more in colorful, contemporary watercolor" which was published by Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster. She starts the book with a very personal instruction to show how she discovered more of nature before presenting basic information such as "Tools & Materials", "Painting Techniques", and "Nature's Palette: Color Theory". I find the nature's palette important since she is more specific than others that are more basic and can be found in many books. Five chapters group main items which can be found in nature: 1) Ground Cover, 2) Flowers, 3) Critters, 4) Seasonal Bits, and 5) Trees. At the end of the book Lombardi is also offering some inspirational photos for those artists who want to start at once but do not have the time to go out in nature themselves. Her step-by-step approach and helpful comments are great for beginning and advanced artists. Sadly the book does not contain any examples for anything that has to do with such items as water / snow / ice, e.g. water puddles, creeks, rivers, lakes, ... Nevertheless, I recommend the book, especially for beginners who want to learn more about the painting of nature.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Gorgeous illustrations abound in this lovely how to watercolor book. Many instructional books are dry, but this one has just the right balance of illustration and text. I am a huge fan. I look forward to spending additional time working through this book. Thank you #WalterFoster and #NetGalley for the #arc of #NaturePaintingInWatercolor!

Nature Painting in Watercolor is an instructional book aimed at beginner to intermediate painters. The author uses her own experiences and makes the book personal and relatable. Her style is encouraging and calm and takes advantage of the wider benefits of getting out and about in nature. Her nature sketchbooks produced from her own walks in nature are inspiring and she encourages her readers to look for methods that work for them. The usual material and methods information is included in the book in an easily readable format. . A good selection of projects and subjects are included from flowers, leaves, ferns, rocks and mushrooms. They include clear step by step instruction with colour photographs and illustrations. Overall a great book, perfect for current times when people are getting out in nature much more.

What a beautiful guide to watercolours! I have been meaning to check out a painting guide for a while, and I was pleased to receive this copy.
Fairly simple (in theory at least) but delightful subjects to paint, from mushrooms to flowers to trees, beautiful nature!

The introduction covers the brushes you are most likely to use, and there are clear step by step instructions given for the actual painting.

I wouldn't say this is a book for people with much technical knowledge of watercolours, but a good starting point for me.

Nature Painting in Watercolor is a tutorial and style guide for watercolor by Kristine A. Lombardi. Due out 23rd March 2021 from Quarto on their Walter Foster imprint, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback format.

The author has an inviting, calm, and encouraging style of writing. She explains a bit of her own background and reasons for starting with nature sketchbooks and inspirations she has gathered on her walks, and invites the reader to find the methods and inspirations which work for them. The brief introduction includes an illustrated list of tools and supplies and some (very) basic techniques for getting paint onto paper, for sketching, for selecting subjects and other useful information for beginning painters. Especially salient tips and info is written into highlighted text boxes which are easy to find and remember. Chapters with specific tutorials are grouped thematically: ground cover (ferns mushrooms & rocks), flowers (buds stems & blooms), critters, seasonal bits (leaves pods & thistle), and trees.

Each of the tutorials includes specific step by step color photos and process illustrations with instructions for color choice, brushes, and special techniques used. Most of the tutorials cover a couple of pages and are simple enough to give beginning watercolorists confidence by rendering them as illustrated.

The author has also included a number of collage photos for inspiration and reference.

This is a very pretty book with a lot of useful information and tips for rendering natural subjects with watercolor.

Five stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I really like this book, I paint, but watercolor is a bit of a battle for me (prefer oils). This book is the perfect beginners book to understand the concept of watercolor painting. Yes to a certain extent it is a step by step painting nature book, but unlike some this actually teachers and explains techniques.
I particularly like the explanation on wet on wet, wet on dry and using of gum in creating various effects. As in all mediums, there are a lot of tricks of the trade to creating wonderful paintings, this book lets us into some of the secrets to produce some nice watercolor paintings depicting nature.

A joyful book that makes you want to paint immediately nature: mushrooms, ferns, rocks, flowers, trees and animals. Very easy, very sympathic, suitable to beginners in watercolor media.

Nature Painting in Watercolor
Learn to paint florals, ferns, trees, and more in colorful, contemporary watercolor
by Kristine A. Lombardi
Back of the Book: “In Nature Painting in Watercolor, the focus is all on the great outdoors—specifically, the plants that grow there. Beginning and aspiring artists can learn to create their favorite ferns, leaves, trees, florals, as well as animals, using the popular watercolor medium.
Start by learning about the tools and materials needed to paint in watercolor; then dive into a thorough and fun painting techniques section, which covers washes, glazes, how to add detail in watercolor, and much more. If you’d like to spend more time outside (who doesn't?), check out the section on finding inspiration outside for tips on viewing and gathering natural painting subjects, such as trees, grasses, flowers, and many other plants.
And if you can’t get outside, we’ve got you covered as well, with suggestions for where to find images online and photos to use as references. Also learn to sketch and keep a detailed sketchbook—skills that will help you when you get started on the step-by-step painting projects in the largest section of the book.
The step-by-step projects cover popular natural painting subjects, including the ones already listed here as well as rocks, mushrooms, buds, blooms, big and small trees, and forest animals. All are illustrated and painted in the author/artists's signature contemporary watercolor style.
Nature Painting in Watercolor offers a fun, refreshing look at painting plants for today’s artist.
Impressions: The tutorials in this book were simple but thorough. Each project was reproducible for the reader. The author's painting style was loose and broad making the tutorials geared for more beginners in understanding the basics. Although this might be a more beginners’ resource, I found myself inspired to take myself and art supplies outdoors for some Plein air painting.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here.

I love art instruction books but many of them are just too technical for me. This one was exactly what I was looking for, with clear instructions and gorgeous step-by-step photos of how to use watercolors to paint all kinds of items from nature. As a homeschooling mom of 5, I've always sought out books that can be used by kids and adults alike. Now that our family has purchased a historic church that we're converting into an arts center for the community (that sounds fancier than it is -- the church cost us slightly more than a used car and it currently has no heat or running water), we have been stocking it with donated art supplies, musical instruments, sewing and quilting materials, etc. We've had lots of art and music books donated but this may be one that I'll purchase for the painting area. It's such a beautiful and helpful book.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
