We Belong to each other is a beautifully illustrated children's book about a little lamb called Grace, who is given a home with a family but doesn't feel she fits in.
Grace becomes sadder and sadder as she realises all the other animals have other animals in their families and she is all alone. But then the families dog helps Grace to understand that all families are different and unique and that she is loved by all.
Grace becomes content in her family and accepts the uniqueness of hers.
I loved the happy surprise for Grace at the end of the book too. This book was an utter delight to review.
We Belong to Each Other is a beautifully illustrated and written book that uses the analogy of farm life to show that families come in different ways. I viewed the story through the eyes of adoption. This book would be a nice book to read to young children to help them learn we all belong and we all have a purpose. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book! (This review is also on GoodReads.)
Grace is a lamb that is brought to a new farm, her new home. She meets all the other animals, but notices that there are no other sheep. She is sure that she doesn't belong in this new home. Grace prays to God for a family and one of the residents hears her prayer. He shows her all around the farm and with a different pair of eyes. As she gets to know all the other residents of White Cottage Farm, including the human ones, she realizes that they all love her even if she looks different from them. This is a sweet story with a very positive message. Home is where the heart is, where you are loved and cared for. Grace may be a sheep, but this story can definitely be used to show children about acceptance, adoption, foster care, blended families etc. It is hard to start a new life in a new home, but with love, it is possible. The illustrations are simple but add so much to the story. They show so much emotion, which this story is all about. The story is told in rhyme with a nice cadence for a read aloud. My grandchildren all interacted at different levels with this story, but they all enjoyed it.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson:Children’s for a copy of “We Belong To Each Other” in exchange for my honest review.
This book is an excellent resource for families whether they became a family naturally, through surrogacy or adoption, the most important part is the Family.
The artwork is engaging and the cute animals will appeal to children. The story is told through rhyming.
Grace the lamb feels that she doesn’t fit in because no one is like her. She learns that family is about caring and warmth, about feeling loved and welcome. A family teaches you, shares with you, catches you when you fall, shows you how to do things. A family does not have to look just like you. Every family is special, some are large and some are small. Families keep you safe. Home is those you love and those who love you.
What a sweet book that teaches children that our family doesn’t have to be those that we look like but that find us and love us no matter what our differences. Perfect for teaching kids about adoption.
Its a nice and funny childeren story. Easy to read and not hard to understand for the childeren. The drawings are also very beautifully drawn.
We Belong to Each Other is a sweet story about families.
The acknowledgement to the author's adopted child helps make this book make more sense. Adopted children may not always feel like they belong right away, but they are loved and fit in. Turning this story into a lamb being accepted into a family and feeling odd and left out is a great way to make this story relatable. It's an easy to understand way to share these feelings with kids, because emotions can be big, tough and scary.
This story is very sweet and the illustrations make it even better. The animals are adorable and the story is important and lovely.
Three out of five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
This is a sweet story with rhyming text and a heartfelt message that home is anyplace that is filled with love. Families come in many different shapes and sizes and the glue that holds a family together is .... LOVE!
This debut children's book is about a couple who bring home a lamb to White Cottage Farm and how that little lamb, named Grace, finds comfort and love in her forever home. At first she feels isolated and alone because no other sheep are present on the farm but eventually she learns that all the other farm animals, and the kind man and woman and their baby, love and accept her as their own. Grace settles into her new life and is thankful to God that He has provided her with the acceptive family she longs for.
The wonderful illustrations are full of emotion and Grace is an adorable little character that you just want to hug and say everything will be okay little one. This is the perfect book to share whilst giving lots of warm hugs and words of affirmation as the story is read. This book would be a perfect gift for baby showers, adoption celebrations, birthdays, Gotcha Days and weddings of blended families. I highly recommend it and know it will be read and enjoyed over and over again.
A beautifully illustrated, rhyming picture book that shows different types of families and the love that is shared. Wonderful for young children or for church preschools. A gentle sweet book.
We Belong to Each Other by Liz Marie Galvan and Jose Galvan is a sweet children's story book about finding a family -- especially through adoption, I would say. This is a book for younger children, with sweet illustrations and rhymes to make the story interesting and beautiful.
This is a very sweet story about belonging and family that leaves a smile on your face. I definitely recommend this for family reading with younger kids!
We Belong to Each Other is an adorable story that uses sweet rhyming and beautiful illustrations to tell the story of Grace, a newly-adopted lamb. Grace's new home is beautiful, but where are the other sheep? Can she truly be a part of this family if she is the only one who looks like herself? With each page, the author reminds Grace (and the children listening to the story) that families come in all shapes and sizes and that every family is special. I also appreciated that God was a big part of the story. My children all loved this book and asked me to add it to our list of books to purchase, and it was fun to read, even as an adult.
*I received a complimentary copy of We Belong to Each Other through the publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My positive review is not required.
The gift of belonging.
Grace is the only sheep in the household and it makes her sad. Then the family dog gives her a lesson in what REALLY makes a family. Perfect read for those who don't feel that they fit in (a ginger in a family of brunettes?), for any sort of blended or adoptive family, or whoever feels alone in their own home.
The illustrations are simple, colorful, and very meaningful.
I requested and received a free temporary ebook from Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S via NetGalley. Thank you!
What a sweet children’s book with the most adorable characters! Grace the lamb is brought to a farm slated as her forever home. But she’s the odd sheep out. No one in her new family looks anything like her, which at first causes her all manner of grief. Until she learns that the gray cat and her kittens, the mama guinea hen and her chicks, the muddy pigs in their sty, Winifred the dog, and the humans who adopted her ARE her true family. Once Grace gets that, she revels in their love — and rejoices when two black sheep join the clan too. Written by husband-and-wife bloggers Jose and Liz Marie Galvan and dedicated to their adopted son. A tender story for children 4-8 and the adults who love them. Out now.
Thanks to the authors, illustrator, Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

"A family is those you love, and all those who love you!"
An oh so sweet rhyming book about found families and finding love in a place that seems so far from what and who we know. The little sheep Grace feels out of place on a farm with no other sheep, but she realizes she belongs when she looks past the exterior and into the hearts full of love
What a beautiful story! This would make a wonderful bedtime story and the illustrations are beautiful. Sure to become your child's favorite. Thank you Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S -- Thomas Nelson via NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
The message of We Belong to Each Other is wholesome, with strong religiously themes from the first page. The synopsis mentions capital G, God, so I anticipated some religious references, but the entire book was filled with them beyond a point I found appropriate for general audiences. It doesn't fit my personal standards for children's books, but it may be appropriate for a religious family. The illustrations were well done.
I received an advance copy of, We Belong to Each Other, by Liz Marie Galvan and Jose Galvan. This is a cute story about family. You do not have to look alike to be family.
A picture book about belonging. Children will gravitate to Grace the baby sheep that has been brought to a farm. Grace's prayer "wherever I'm going, wherever I'll be, please God, let there be sheep like me." Grace finds no other sheep but she does learn a valuable lesson about belonging and what that truly means.
The illustrations and message go together so well. Will be a family favorite.
A special thank you to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
