I really loved the YA romance.. As with all of Yoon’s books, she gives us so much more than just a romance. This book held my interest throughout and I definitely shed a few tears. I loved the magical, mystical elements of the book and the characters were fantastic. I’m still a little afraid of FiFi ;)
I highly recommend this book for anyone tween and above and for anyone seeking a great story— after all everyone loves a love story!
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I loved this book a lot! I had a great time reading it. This book made me happy in every way. Nicola Yoon is one of my auto-read authors, I do hope this book gets a movie too! It would be fun
I really enjoyed this YA book that explores if love is worth it, even if it ends in tragedy. Readers will connect with Evie, a former romantic-turned-cynic following her parents' separation. With elements of magic, a heartfelt cast of characters, and a beautiful love story at the center, this book feels like a hug. You will feel seen and hopeful at the end. It's a beautifully unique message for teen readers - love is going to be hard in all forms, but it's worth it.
I love Nicola Yoon and while I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers tropes, the ending was rough! I still highly recommend! Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!
This was by far one of my favorite reads from last year!
I'm always a sucker for romance stories with a little added magic to them. So when Evie saw her first vision of how someone's love story develops, I was hooked.
I'm still mad about that ending, though, not gonna lie. But... it was an amazing read!
Adorable, I really enjoyed it, but man, that ending was a bit rough to take! A good message overall, but what a thing to be cursed with, even for a short time.
If you knew how your romance was going to end, would you even start it? Evie has a gift (or a curse)--she can see the end of a relationship when she sees a couple kiss. This causes issues in her friendships and in her own life.
In this enemies to lovers book, Nicola Yoon describes how two teens are brought together by dance. Evie finds herself with the strange power of being able to see how peoples relationships will end with just observing a kiss. After her parents separation, Evie is disappointed that the rom com love her parents had was a false. She finds a dance instruction that leads her to a unique dance studio. Together with X, Evie is faced with the risk involved 8n love.
Do you believe in destiny? Fate? What if you could see the whole beginning, middle, and end of your love story? Would you still try? Evie is given an unusual gift. When she sees a couple kissing, she can see their whole love story. Since her parents' divorce, she has become quite the cynic about love, and these visions reinforce that. Until X. She meets him, and he's not like most guys. The two of them decide to take ballroom dancing lessons to help his grandparents' dance studio make a name for itself. Is love worth the risk? Read to find out.
Oh my god- I absolutely fell in love with this. I genuinely finished it in one sitting!
So this was my first Nicola Yoon book, and it definitely won’t be the last. I so so enjoyed the story and the romance between Evie and X, most if not all of the side characters, and just the writing in general. Nicola Yoon’s writing is simple and easy to read, but still beautiful and makes you really enjoy the story, which I appreciate as someone with a hard time staying focused.
I loved the build up and dancing lessons between X and Evie, it was such a sweet romance. I think genuinely my only complaint about this book is how it ended because it made me cry! It was realistic and heartbreaking, but still made me cry.
Fun! I've recommended it to several students and purchased it for the library. I'm currently clearing out all of the books that were published in 2019-21 from my title feedback view!
This was a very sweet romance. The characters were dynamic and the emotions were all very clear. There was never any guessing about the feeling they had for each other which I really liked.
What a amazing book! I feel in love with this one. The story is spectacular, all the characters are super vivid. I recommend with my heart.
Evie loved the fairy tale romances that existed on the pages of her favorite books, that is until her father broke up their family. Jaded against love, will a chance encounter change Evie's view on life?
This clean romance involves a little magical realism, giving an average YA romance a bit of interest. Evie's ability to see the romantic future of those around her is unique, but the fact that she does nothing with the gift she is given is a disappointment. I usually like Nicola Yoon's novels, especially the way that the characters leap off the pages, but not in this case. Evie reminds me too much of a whiny teenager and, although that might be realistic, the teenager is way over the top. The magical aspects of the book give it charm, but the author does not take the concept far enough. For these reasons, I would not recommend Instructions for Dancing to other readers.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of Instructions for Dancing by NetGalley and the publisher, Delacorte Press. The decision to read and review this book was solely my own.
Funny enough, the bittersweet ending was probably my favorite part of this book. Well that, and the amusing dance instructor. The magical realism was ok, it was an interesting phenomenon but I felt like there should’ve been more to it or more to the characters’ reactions surrounding it, idk it just felt kinda one dimensional, as were the characters. I liked Evie and X but there wasn’t much depth there. All around I liked it, didn’t love it. I got more emotional about the author’s note than the story, and it’s my least favorite of Yoon’s books so far. Worth a read but I probably won’t read it again.
I absolutely adored this book! It was a perfect balance of romance and real life. Sometimes finding a place to belong is difficult and you can find it in the most unexpected places. Yoon has done it again!
A fun read by Nicola Yoon. This books made me want to be on Dancing With the Stars and relive all of my teen loves all over again. Absolutely beautiful and unexpected ending.
What happens when you combine Nicola Yoon's writing, magical realism, and romance? Pure magic! I recommend this book to all the teens and ya readers who are looking for a good romance and to those who don't know they are looking for a good romance. Plus that ending was perfection.

Another good read from Nicola Yoon. This book was a departure from past books in that it had aspects of magical realism along with the contemporary romance. Evie had a hard time dealing with her parents divorce, but she receives a gift that leads to dance lessons, romance, and eventually helps her to deal with her outlook on love. I really enjoyed the dance lessons and her blossoming romance. However, I found her outlook on love to be a downer and the ending was bittersweet.
I would definitely recommend this book to readers who like books that tug on their heartstrings.
