Girls With Bright Futures was an absolute binge read for me.
This was a fascinating exploration of motherhood, class, and privilege surrounding an elite prep school, three Standford hopefuls, and the parents that would do anything to get them there.
Part thriller, part dark comedy this is a gripping read with lots to think about and discuss.
I listened to the audio version of this book and thought it was perfect. The narrator was great and I couldn't stop listening- I finished it in a day.
Many thanks to RB Media and NetGalley for the advance copy.
I compulsively listened to this audiobook literally in one day, which is definitely a 5-star gem to me.
This novel is about three mothers competing fiercely for their private school daughters to get the single slot at Stanford. A wealthy tech giant Alicia and her average, ambivalent daughter, Alicia's very assistant Maren and her ambitious, top-of-the-class daughter, and a Stanford alum without as much regard for her daughter. Drama, drama and more drama - until one the girls is almost killed in a hit and run accident just before the applications are due... or was it an accident?
Girls with Bright Futures is a juicy contemporary fiction/thriller about the very serious and important topic of college admissions. The competition that goes behind it, class, wealth and intrigue are all discussed in the book - but with a relatively light tone adequate to a thriller. I found the plot itself, the characters and the discussion incredibly well done, and I definitely think it will appeal to ambitious readers.
As I was lucky to listen to the audiobook version, my experience was additionally elevated by the skillful narration. With just the right tone and emotion, the audio definitely strengthened the suspense overall. Highly recommended.
