Thanks to Ballantine/Random House for an advanced copy of Family Reunion by Nancy Thayer.

Nancy is one of my favorite summer authors. I am always transported to Nantucket when reading her books and I love her descriptions of the characters and the houses.

Eleanor loves living on Nantucket in a house that has been in her family for generations, but this summer is starting a little differently. As her family gathers to kick off the summer on the island, her two children want her to sell the house (so they can get the money) and her recent college grad, granddaughter decedes to spend her summer living with her as she's just broken off an engagement. Eleanor and her granddaughter come together as they both are dealing with messy family drama and the impacts of their choices.

This was a good summer beach read, you like most of the characters, can't stand one and it was pretty fast paced. If you're a Nancy Thayer fan or looking for a multi-generational family book in a gorgeous location with a side of drama you'll like this!

First , I love Nancy Thayer’s books and have read many. This one I enjoyed immensely.
Second, I have never and will never understand selfish, narcissist people who are never satisfied with what they have and always want more…..they must live very miserable lives…….and yes this book has one. ( I’m still trying to figure out why these adult kids think that their mother owes them any of the money from the sale of her property.) This book also has a beautiful relationship between a grandmother and granddaughter that I wish I could go back in time and have with my grandmother. This is a sweet family story, minus the selfish kids, and a man having an affair on the same island as his daughter and mother-in-law live , is that stupidity or wanting to get caught but you will not want to put this book down.
This is a must read. Thank you #Netgalley #ARC . Due to be released May 4, 2021.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This book started out pretty quickly and kept me turning the pages. It definitely did not end the way I thought it would and I enjoyed the twists and turns that were unexpected.

Eleanor Sunderland has spent her entire life on Nantucket. Her house has been a part of her family for five generations. Her husband passed away three years ago and her best friend has announced this summer her and her husband are going on a cruise. Summer has become difficult and lonely for Eleanor since her husband passed away and Eleanor envisions and even lonelier summer in which she will be celebrating her 70th birthday.

Her daughter Alicia is obsessed with money and status, is married to a surgeon, and Eleanor adores their daughter Ari. Ari adores her grandmother also. Ari is graduating from Bucknell University and planning to go to Boston University for graduate school.

Eleanor is also worried about her son Cliff who is handsome, brilliant, hardworking, wealthy, but at 39 is still not married. Eleanor decides to plan a party for her 70th birthday as this will be the perfect time for a family reunion on Nantucket and to have her family together again.

As soon as Ari graduates, she breaks off her engagement with her longtime boyfriend Peter Anderson whom she met when she was 15. She decided that she wants to spend the summer on Nantucket with her grandmother. Eleanor is ecstatic that her granddaughter wants to come stay with her for the summer. Ari takes a job at a local beach camp and finds herself attracted to a friend’s older brother while Eleanor forms a bond with and acquaintance on the island. As the family gets together for Eleanor’s 70th birthday, it sets the stage for the rest of the summer.

While Eleanor has always done her best not only to please her husband and children, even putting them before her needs as any mother and wife would, it’s apparent how materialistic and selfish Alicia is. It seems to be about the almighty dollar. Of all the characters in this book, Alicia was my least favorite. Her son Cliff also seems to be about the money as they both want their mom to sell her home to a real estate developer for 15 million dollars. Dollar signs are all they appear to see. And there are family secrets lingering that change the summer for all.

Eleanor and Ari’s relationship grow’s even more over the summer as Ari makes new friends, develops new relationships, and discovers things about herself. This relationship between Eleanor and Ari is special and is one of the things I love about the story.

There is a lot of drama between Eleanor and her children concerning the house and secrets yet for you to discover. The story of Ari, her journey of discovery, and her relationship with Eleanor is also a very heart-warming story. This is a great beach read even though Alicia really got under my skin 😊 Thank you NetGalley, Ballantine Books, and Nancy Thayer for the Advanced Reader’s Copy in exchange for this honest review. #NetGalley #FamilyReunion #NancyThayer #BallantineBooks #BeachRead #WomensFiction #Nantucket #FamilySagaFiction

Family you accept them even when they are not so lovable as some in Family Reunion by Nancy Thayer. Then there are those close relationships like the one between grandmother and granddaughter in this Nantucket story. Characters like Eleanor and Ari, her granddaughter made this story for me. Eleanor’s children not so much which led me to think the good genes skipped a generation.

Aging issues are only a part of this story, there is also family and personal crisis which break heats and need healing. Still there is romance and love. A realistic, heart string pulling and heartwarming story.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a drama filled story, with a beautiful setting ( Nantucket ) and characters that feel like family. There were a few surprises along the way.

Eleanor is my kind of woman – she is strong, independent, and knows her own mind. She does jigsaw puzzles, reads books and walks on the beach ( me too! ). Her granddaughter, Ari, spends the summer with her. Ari takes after her grandmother in all the best ways. Their relationship was enjoyable to read.

The ending was everything I wanted. I am waiting for Nancy Thayer’s next book.

Family Reunion is another delightful read by Nancy Thayer. It tells the story of three generations of women, all bound together by a house on Nantucket. Eleanor is the grandmother that everyone wants, Alicia is the nightmare mother/daughter, and Ari is the young adult navigating her way through this world. I really enjoyed the interactions and relationships among the three women and the male members of the family (Cliff, Eleanor's son and Alicia's brother, Phillip, Alicia's husband and Ari's father), as well as new friends we meet along the way. It's a nice, quick read that leaves the reader satisfied yet wanting to spend more time with this family.

Family Reunion had the premise to be a good read but I felt that it was overly descriptive. I started speed reading through the long drawn out parts.
Let’s talk about the characters....I thoroughly did not like many of them. All they wanted was the poor grandmothers money! They were horrible and ever so greedy!
I loved the relationship between the grandmother, Eleanor, and Ari, her granddaughter. Best part of the story was the two of them.
I’m sure if you are a fan of Nancy Thayer and Nantucket, you will like this story. It would make for a nice beach read.
Thank you to NetGallery, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

Eleanor Sunderland loves her cliffside home on Nantucket, and despite the fact that she is turning 70 and the house needs a myriad of repairs, she has no plans to leave. Her son Cliff comes to her with the news that a hotel chain wants to buy the house and surrounding land for fifteen million dollars, and Cliff and his sister Alicia both want Eleanor to sell. Alicia's daughter Ari, newly graduated from college and fresh off of a breakup from her boyfriend, wants to spend the summer with Eleanor. It becomes a summer of changes as Ari almost immediately meets and falls in love with the brother of a long-time friend, Eleanor finds a special someone of her own, decisions are made about selling the house, problems in Alicia & Phillip's marriage finally rise to the surface and it becomes make-it-or-break-it time for their marriage. It is definitely going to be a summer to remember on Nantucket!
I love this author's books, and this one was no exception. There were characters I wanted to root for ( Eleanor & Ari), characters I didn't like ( Alicia), lots of drama, emotional scenes, and scenes that made me laugh. This is the perfect beach read, or book to get you ready for summer. It definitely got me in the summer spirit! I highly recommend it.

What a fun read by Nancy Thayer. The characters were intriguing , unique ,and a bit bothersome. Their quirks and the how they dealt with each situation helped make this a great story.

I always enjoy visiting Nantucket through the writings of Nancy Thayer. This summer's read focuses on Eleanor and her family as they all transition to new lives and new ways of being. As always it's a fun summer read to visit with Thayer's characters and I felt that Eleanor was most fully realized in terms of being a distinct person of a certain age with the self-knowledge that her daughter didn't possess. The story of her granddaughter Ari was a bit more idealized and I rankled a bit at the privilege of Ari as she faced her challenges. That said, I still enjoyed reading the multi-generational story as will regular Thayer readers. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

Nancy Thayer's books take me through a gauntlet of emotions and this one is no different. The characters came alive as I read and were interesting to get to know. I enjoyed the different generational theme. This book gave drama a GOOD name. I would recommend this book AND I give it 5 stars!

This was a great women’s fiction book. Set in Nantucket it follows a dysfunctional family who have lived here for generations as they go through trials and tribulations. I loved the matriarch of the family and her granddaughter. If you are a fan of Thayer you will enjoy this book

I love books that take place in Nantucket. Kansas City is about as far from the ocean as you can get in this country, so it all seems magical for me. There is plenty of Nantucket feels in this book, from the waves crashing and the storms rolling in to strolling along the small town and buying ice cream cones.

Then there is the actual family drama. Eleanor is the matriarch of the family and lives in her Nantucket home that has been in her family for something like five generations. The first part of the drama comes in the form of her daughter and son wanting her to sell the house so they can get their share of the money (millions). The daughter is a really obnoxious woman. Her daughter, Ari (Eleanor's granddaughter) has all the love for Eleanor that Eleanor's own daughter doesn't seem to have. There's family drama with almost every character.

The high point of this book for me was the relationship between Eleanor and Ari. Everybody should have that soft place they can always return to when life is dumping on them and they were that soft place for each other. It was really sweet.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Family Reunion is set in Nantucket. But it isn’t your typical beach centered book. Eleanor lives in a huge old house on the shore. It is much more than she can take care of but it has been in the family for generations. Eleanor has lived there year-round since her husband died three years ago. Her granddaughter, Ari, is going to live with her over the summer between college and grad school. Ari has just broken off her engagement much to her mother’s dismay. Ari’s parents, Alicia and Phillip are at a difficult spot in their marriage. Ari’s unmarried uncle, Cliff, sells real estate and has great plans for the house on the bluff. Alicia and Cliff expect their mother to sell and to split the profits three ways. Alicia is convinced this is the only way her life can continue in the direction she expects. Are, Alicia, Phillip and Cliff all have secrets they are hiding.
This is what I would call a beach read. It is easy to read and follow. The storylines are interesting and I wanted to keep reading to see what happened to the characters. All in all a five star book.

Nancy Thayer is one of my favorite authors and her books are always a delight to read.

Family Reunion (not the greatest name for this book IMHO) is another stellar entry into her long list of novels. One of the best parts of this novel is having an older woman as one of the POVs of this novel. I really loved Eleanor and would happily read more books about her! Her POV is balanced by that of her granddaughter Ari, who is in her twenties. I didn't like Ari as much but not enough to affect my enjoyment of the novel.

I buzzed through this book really quickly - it takes place mostly over one summer in Nantucket.

Overall this is a wonderful novel and I highly recommend picking it up this summer!

Nancy Thayer books are always a good light read. I felt this one dealt with a few more serious issues than her usual stories. It takes place on Nantucket and contains plenty of family drama. Some of the issues you’ll read about are families dealing with an aging relative, the unpleasant side to money, a surprise pregnancy, several relationship problems, etc all while enjoying being at the beach on Nantucket. Everything is tied up nicely by the end, which some may not like because real life isn’t that way. But overall I thought it was a good story and enjoyed reading it.
Thank you to the author and publisher for an early readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this book. I could not put it down and read it in one day. After reading several emotional books I found Family Reunion a cozy, heartwarming story. It is a family drama with many twist and turns. But it does have a happy ending.

Eleanor is a 70 year old widow that lives in a home on Nantucket. Her home has been in the family for five generations.
Even though the house is in need of repair she loves her home. Her money hungry daughter and son only see it for the 15 million dollar it is worth. Eleanor wants to keep the house in the family.
Granddaughter Ari comes to spend the summer with her grandmother. After college graduation and the stressful break up with her fiancé Ari needs time away. Ari has a close relationship with her grandmother and she will help her with the hard decisions Ari needs to make about her future.
Before the end of summer life has changed for the entire family.
This is a story with infidelity, pregnancy, romance and family drama.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and give an honest review.
