While The Paris Connection by Lorraine Brown is archived on NetGalley, I wanted to leave a review in case anyone finds it elsewhere.
This was a light and charming read, perfect for escaping into a whirlwind Parisian adventure. Getting stranded in the City of Lights sounds like a nightmare, but Hannah's experience was surprisingly delightful.
Especially noteworthy was the banter between Hannah and Léo. Their initial clash of personalities gave way to some witty exchanges, making their journey through Paris all the more entertaining.
The Paris Connection is a fun and heartwarming read that will leave you wanting a croissant and a plane ticket to Paris.
This book has a fascinating premise, what if you were stranded for one day in Paris, away from your significant other, away from everyone you know and love? How would you spend your time, and what might you learn about yourself? When Hannah finds herself unexpectedly in Paris, away from her boyfriend she does some soul searching as she explores the City of Light. And to complicate things, she's accompanied by a handsome Frenchman named Leo. Suspense builds as Hannah falls under the magic of Paris and finds herself. You will love this book!
A wonderful romance set on a train bound for Paris. I will admit, each time I read a book about Paris, it really makes me want to plan a trip there! Hannah has a few mishaps while trying to make her sisters wedding, but as luck would have it, a handsome stranger to the rescue! I really enjoyed the setting and the character development in this book.
This book unfortunately fell flat for me. I got about halfway through and couldn’t finish it, it just wasn’t for me. I thought it was going to be more of a romance book, but that was more of a secondary plot. I know others loved it, it just wasn’t for me.
Thank you to Putnam and NetGalley for the gifted ebook of The Paris Connection! All opinions in this review are my own.
After a few days in Venice, Hannah and Simon are racing to make their train for Amsterdam to attend Simon's sister's wedding. While they just barely make it, there is something wrong with their ticket and instead of their romantic couchette, Hannah and Simon must sit in coach for the long journey. Desperate for more room, Hannah leaves Simon sleeping and finds open seats in another part of the train. Unbeknownst to her, the train separates in the night and Hannah is now Paris-bound. Hannah must now spend the day in Paris as she waits for the next train to Amsterdam.
I was immediately drawn into this novel from the first chapter. I loved the hilarious (funny when it's not happening to you) opening chapter as Hannah and Simon are trying to make their train. Hannah's predicament continued to amuse me as the novel went on.
I wasn't a fan of how dismissively Hannah talks to herself, but I am glad she gains more confidence in herself as the book goes on.
For only taking place over one day, the adventure of the novel never dragged. I loved reading about these snippets of Paris!
I recommend if you are needing a vacation full of adventure!
Content warning: dishonesty in a romantic relationship
Hannah boards a train with her boyfriend Si bound for his sister's wedding in Amsterdam. Hannah finds a place to sleep away from Si, and when she wakes up she's in Paris while he's still asleep on his way to Amsterdam with her passport. Her phone is stolen at the train station and she has minimal cash and her debit card to make it to Amsterdam.
Hannah meets Léo, a Parisian who is also supposed to be in Amsterdam. At first, she is annoyed by his music and attitude, but they embark on an adventure to see Paris while waiting for the next train to Amsterdam. Hannah must deal with the stress of cutting it close to the wedding while also wondering if her boyfriend is cheating on her.
I personally have a lot in common with Hannah, but I still found her hard to relate to. Her negative mindset about being stuck in Paris isn't endearing and borders on annoying.
Recommended for readers who like an accidental romance.
Wonderful love story! Couldn’t get enough of this book! I read this in one sitting. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
3.5 stars
I will say this every time, but I am a sucker for a book set in Paris. That was my favorite part of this book as the whole thing doesn't take place in Paris.
Our main character Hannah gets accidentally separated from her boyfriend Simon on a train ride from Venice to Amsterdam on their way to Simon's sister's wedding. He ends up in Amsterdam, she ends up in Paris. One other passenger also gets on the wrong section of the train, Leo. Leo convinces Hannah to spend the day in Paris with him as she has no money, her phone gets stolen and the next train to Amsterdam isn't for hours and hours.
Honestly, I didn't really like Hannah a whole lot. She was kind of annoying and judgmental. I also didn't like her boyfriend Simon and how he talked to Hannah. Leo was by far my favorite character. At first he seemed like an arrogant, rude Parisian, but there was a lot to him and he was very open and accepting.
Like I said, I really enjoyed the part where Hannah and Leo were in Paris. I think that was really the point, because Hannah became much more likable and relaxed into herself when she was with Leo than at first when she was with Simon on the train. There were parts that really annoyed me at first, but when everything started to wrap up, it all kind of made sense so my annoyance went down.
I don't want to give anything away, but the typical "problem" in this book was not what I was expecting and I was actually happy for it. It was something different. And how Hannah came out in the end was genuinely for herself. There was also a relationship she had with one of the characters that really made me sad, but by the end things had started to turn around and that made me really happy.
Overall a fun romance with a little peek of Paris!
I found this a bit lacklustre and it's really not the most memorable of stories and Hannah's narration feels a bit sub-par. I did like the aspect of her self-development, and her interest in photography but the struggles in her relationship with Si and her developing of feelings for Léo is a little predictable. and cliche. The backdrop of Paris and the pair discovering aspects of the city and learning things about one another was charming, but the overall development of characters apart from Hannah was a little disappointing and something that needed to be fleshed out further.
The premise of the story has promise but just like within a beautiful city of love, there are ugly and disappointing elements. There are lots of stilted dialogue moments and minimalist romance, but the unusual storyline and some nice moments mean this is still enjoyable but not one I'd likely re-read anytime soon.
I personally could not get through this book. Normally i’m dreading the book I’m reading to end, but this one I kind of dreaded having to read it.
The Paris Connection was exactly the sweet, fun, adorable journey I wanted it to be. There were also some poignant moments of realness I didn't expect but loved. It was the best kind of fluff. The characters had a great connection (no pun intended).
This was an absolutely adorable book! A whirlwind (sort of) romance started off by a chance encounter on a train. Hannah finds herself stranded in Paris, miles away from her boyfriend & her original destination. She meets Parisian, Leo & ends up on a sightseeing tour of the city of lights. One thing leads to another & the unexpected detour leads Hannah to question what she wants in life.
I appreciated the direction this book took & the way it handled the connection between Hannah & Leo, however it was fairly predictable. Overall it was a quick & cute read, if not a little surface level. I would have loved to see more chemistry & a bit more personality throughout the pages.
The pacing of The Paris Connection was slow so it took some time to feel enveloped in the story. I did not personally connect with the main characters but overall enjoyed the novel and its setting of Paris.
Overall, I thought this book was hard to get into. I loved the setting and the descriptions made me feel like I was there. It was just hard for me to get into.
Lorraine was a guest in the podcast . I loved her source of inspiration. This book is the perfect English Chick Lit. Thank you for letting me read and review this book.
I felt like this book was a bit slow for me. It took me a while to get through, I thought the descriptions of the location and surroundings made me feel like I was there but I felt like the connection to the characters were lacking a bit. Overall I thought it was a fun book and made me want to travel and explore Paris!
I fell in love with this book and these characters! I have never read anything else by Lorraine Brown, but this will not be my last! I love Paris and this really helped to bring it to life!
While this novel has a theme I generally don't enjoy (cheating boyfriend), I really liked the rest of the book. I thought the British girl derailed to Paris was such a fun premise. I can't help but relate to and enjoy a heroine dealing with circumstances outside of her control.
Hannah's ability to navigate what is one disaster leading to the next, in order to return to her boyfriend, Si, for his sister's wedding, is bar none. I would have lost my marbles much faster in a similar circumstance. The meet-cute is wince-worthy and what follows may have been multiple hardships, but there were some really nice shining moments with the supporting cast and a knight-in-shining-armor-in-disguise that gave Hannah the hope - and help - that she desperately needed.
I think Lorraine's debut is what it was billed to be: for fans of One Day in December. I think, just like with Josie's book, I'll remember this one fondly and look forward to reading more from her.
Thank you to Penguin Group Putnam for the advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.
This entire novel was a fantastic love story centered around the idea of fate. It made my heart sing with so much happiness and hope. I loved it! The writing was so beautiful, yet very simple which I can appreciate! Sometimes simple is best, especially with a story like this... where it takes place in one day, in mainly one place, with mainly two characters.
As you travel along with Hannah on her journey, you see her unravel when it comes to her relationship with Simon. He is keeping something from her but it's very hard to put your finger on it... that part of the story is a little anti-climatic but it was a great catalyst for Hannah coming into her own.
The ending was so sweet and so much fun! I loved how it tied the entire story together and without giving too much away, I think everyone will enjoy it!
If you are looking for an easy, no-nonsense, straightforward but fun romance novel I really recommend "The Paris Connection!" I think a lot of people would really enjoy this.
Sadly, this book was not what I was hoping or expecting it to be. I really couldn’t resonate with the main character and found her difficult to warm up to. Luckily, the ending did make up for some of my disappointment. Thank you for the ARC of this book.
