This was fun. I listened to the audio and really enjoyed the narration and the story. Thanks for my copy!

The Family Plot had an interesting premise, I just found that I couldn't totally connect with the unlikeable characters and plotline. I have enjoyed Megan Collin's writing in the past but struggled with feeling invested with the storyline.

I found myself wishing for the characters to be a bit more layered and would have liked for more of the plot themes to be fleshed out. I think I was just in the space of wanting a bit more overall so this ended up being a bit of a letdown for me.

Thank you to the publisher for my gifted copy. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this title. I read the first few chapters but could not get into this book. It is just not for me

Interesting premise. Some entertaining twists and turns but overall very predictable. Very entertaining and a book to recommend to mystery lovers.

Thank you to @simonschusterca for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The idea behind the book was so good but unfortunately for me, the execution was lacking. Everything was offered up right at the beginning, nothing was surprising and everything that excited me about the concept felt underdeveloped.

The story was too linear and the characters too one-dimensional. Perhaps, alternate timelines or another perspective might have provided more balance.

It is a unique read though - eerie and bizarre. Fans of true crime would probably like this one just for all the references.

Dahlia Lighthouse grew up in what many called a Murder House, learning about true crime and how to protect oneself in the big, wide world. Unfortunately, that doesn’t keep her twin brother from going missing when they are sixteen. Ten years later, Dahlia is back after her father passed away and when his body is about to be laid to rest, they find Andy – dead from an axe in the head, and buried in their father’s plot in the family graveyard. Yeah, it’s a lot to start the book…and it kept me reading from there. I will say that some of the reveals were a bit obvious, but not all of them. Regardless, I really enjoyed The Family Plot…and the end even had me in tears!

I was disappointed in this story. The characters were a strange concoction of not very likable people. The build up of the mystery was intriguing with a few twists and turns to keep you guessing. However, the ending was a bit anticlimactic. This was a decent read.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for my e-arc of THE FAMILY PLOT by Megan Collins. This one published August 17, so you can already grab your own copy!

This was my first book from this author, and it won’t be my last! While I didn’t love this book, I did enjoy it for the most part. I initially was excited to read it, because it involves twins (I have a twin sister, so I love books that involve twins!) You know from the synopsis, that one of the twins is found dead, so this book is all about the family coming to terms with his death (that actually happened 10 years ago but they are just finding out now), and trying to figure out who killed him.

What made this book only 3 stars? This family is messed up! The father also just died, and without giving any spoilers, he was hands down my least favourite ( I know, you aren’t supposed to speak ill of the dead, but read this book and you will understand). I actually didn’t really like any of the characters in this book. The family members all had too many secrets that they kept from each other! Ugh. Like so much pain could have been spared if there were no secrets kept!

I do want to read more from this author tho! This book did have some creep factor to it, as it does take place on an island, and the family’s house is known as “murder mansion” you will have to read it to find out why!

The Family plot is a fun mystery/thriller novel. The narrator is 26 year old Dahlia Lighthouse. She is one of four children who were all named after famous murder victims...the creep factor on that is good! Obviously, their parents are obsessed with true crime. The children return to the family home for a funeral, and the surprises come out!
This book has true crime (which I love) and family dysfunction (who doesn't love it!?) along with a eerie setting, this book checks all the boxes!
Dahlia is a character I really enjoyed, even though her family was totally sinister. She is on a quest for the truth about her twin, Andy, who left when they were 16.
The big reveal happens with about 25% of the novel still left to go which is why I deducted 1 star. It's a fun, unnerving read with a good main character.
Thank you to Atria books and the publisher for the ARC. I recommend this one with two thumbs up!
4 stars.

👫 The Family Plot 👫

4.5 stars

This dysfunctional family and all their dark secrets will keep you turning the pages! I did go into this book blind and I'm happy I did. This book has one POV which is Dahlia but I kind of wish we heard from Charlie too. He was my favorite character out of the whole book. If he  Tbis book is a fast and easy read. This is my second book from this author and I loved it!

This was a light DNF for me. The premise was so unique, but ultimately the storytelling was just not there. We're told so many details without being shown any of it, and then before you know it, most of the story has elapsed and nothing has happened. I skimmed through about 50% forward.

I am really starting to become a fan of Megan Collins. The Family Plot hit different. I liked the aspect of this serial killer obsessed family with deep hidden murderous ties of their own. Kept me engaged throughout the novel, and I never saw the ending coming!

The premise of The Family Plot has the makings of a totally creepy, eerie thriller. However, it was lost in the execution. Throughout the book, I kept thinking to myself "Was this a YA novel and I don't remember?". The descriptive writing was impressive, but sometimes it just didn't fit with what I thought the theme of the story should be. Megan Collins truly has a gift, but I think the storyline was lost among the descriptive writing.

I love Collins way of bringing twisted family dynamics into her stories. The Lighthouse parents and children make the book so thrilling for me, reading through the mystery and the family personalities. It was like taking a step into a new world.

This was an interesting read with interesting characters. I felt Dahlia was the least visualize character, but overall I enjoyed the story and the twists.

I had this book on my NetGalley shelf for a while and was saving it for a good spooky read and it turned out to be just that!

The Lighthouse family lives in the so called "Murder Mansion". They are an unusual familiy, so deeply surrounded by murder. All four of the Lighthouse children are named in honor of murder victims, and they are home schooled in the craziest way. While this seems over the top even for me, I'd LOVE to roam around their victim room (when my husband and I went to LA, we visited the Museum of Death and this is what I imagined the victim room to be.)

To make things even crazier, there is a serial killer in their small town who has been preying on women for years without capture.

The family (except for their brother Andy who ran away on his 16th birthday) comes back together for the first time in 10 years when their faither passes away and things really take a turn.

The family dynamic is so so strange but understandable when you think of how they were raised.

I was very very invested in this story. I felt for Daliah, and was incredibly skeptical of Charlie and Tate. To me everyone was a suspect at some point in the sotry.

My only fault with this book is the big reveal felt very familiar to me, like I had already seen it on an episode of Criminal Minds or something. Not to say I didn't still enjoy it, and not to say there weren't unexpected twists!

Overall I'm so glad I saved this for an October spooky ready. Thank you NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for the chance to read this!

This was a solid thriller with a great setting in a creepy house. I read this for a good Halloween thriller.

Well done!

I read this book for my Halloween story. It has the family the island and town think is weird. It has the spooky setting of trees and rough beach line. It has the shed and it is off limits. And the family relationships are bizarre. Who homeschools their children based on true crime? Then there is the island serial killer. All mixed together to have the perfect scary story that you can't put down. I was completely entertained. Thanks to the talented author for writing this one.

True Crime lovers rejoice!  Megan Collins has crafted a perfectly creepy, twisty story revolving around the Lighthouse Family whose children (named after famous murder victims) were homeschooled with true crime murders as their curriculum.  It will definitely send you down the rabbit hole of the crimes that are referred to in the story.  Add in the "Murder Mansion" and you've got a perfect setting for a eerie fall read.  Understandably, the characters are a bit screwy in the head, and will keep you guessing as events, past and present, unfold.

The Family Plot by Megan Collins was such a unique mystery, I really loved it.
I am a huge true-crime fan, and the way that she wove in these stories that we all know with the fictional serial killer was really well done. The atmosphere on this one was so moody and gloomy, I felt like I could see their home on this island. The Family Plot kept me interested with the abundance of questions arising, and the great cast of characters. We actually picked this one for one of our Mystery/Suspense box selections because it was so unique and fun to read.
