The Other Passenger was my first Louise Candlish book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was a story of greed and lust and narcissism and it did not disappoint. The characters were well thought out, although not particularly likable because of their actions, but that’s what made the story flow so well. Lots of smaller twists and turns until the big ones at the end. I liked how the author tied up the finale.

Love-hate relationship with books like this. Don't love to be creeped out, and this one definitely has sinister vibes and plot twists. Didn't love the ending, but served the purpose of a fast, entertaining read.

Jamie and Clare, in their late 40's begin a friendship with Clare's new colleague Melia and her partner Kit, who are in their early 30's. Despite not having a ton in common, they strike up a connection quickly. Jamie and Kit begin to take the water riverboat to work, and stick together despite bickering at each other and showing signs of jealousy of each other's lives. The foursome regularly have dinner parties. Shortly after Christmas, Kit isn't on the boat, and the police want to talk to Jamie about their friendship, as it appears he is the last person to have seen Kit. The cops mention another passenger who witnessed Kit and Jamie arguing on the boat the last night he was seen. And they also seem to know that Jamie and Melia's relationship has been more than just friendly. The more Jamie tries to explain things and protest his innocence, the more things unravel for him. Can he trust anything that Kit and Melia have ever told him?

This was a fast-moving, high-interest tale. It was quite suspenseful, although a bit implausible at times, when the level of deception was revealed. None of the characters are particularly likeable, and that added to the interest level of the book. The riverboat aspect added a nice dose of scenery and atmosphere.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title and provide an honest review.

The first person perspective in The Other Passenger did not quite capture me. Maybe it was the character or the writing or just not the right fit for me, I am not sure. I do think it is a decent thriller mystery that man will enjoy.

Despite the glowing reviews I discovered this author's style is definitely not for me. I found the story tedious--too much reliance on cliched plot ideas and manufactured twists to propel the story forward. Despite repeatedly skipping ahead, I just had to delete the book unfinished. Thank you NetGalley for granting me an ARC of this forthcoming novel.

I really enjoyed this super-twisty thriller! It’s so much fun trying to figure out what’s really happening, and who’s in on it. I was worried that I’d be disappointed with the ending, but nope, it was satisfying. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have always enjoyed reading Louise Candish's thrillers and as such, I was excited to sink my teeth into to her latest novel. She once again excels at developing her characters' interior monologues and getting her readers to fully understand their motives and behavior. I also appreciate her creation of atmosphere and how the environment plays an important role in the story's unfolding. However, this thriller was very slow paced and did not connect with me as Candish's previous novels had.

Jamie and Clare (no relation to the Outlander couple) are a middle-aged couple living in a nice home in London (purchased by Clare's parents back when real estate was affordable). Kit and Melia are a young, beautiful couple who always seem to complain about their financial issues.

Melia and Clare meet at work, and a post-work get-together at Jamie and Clare's home leads to Kit and Jamie's daily commute by ferry. Then one day, Kit doesn't show up for work. No big deal-- he's been known to party hard and skip work. But when Melia phones the police, it's discovered that the last person to see Kit alive was Jamie-- when they were fighting on the ferry.

I thought I had the ending pegged-- but Lousie Candlish kept me guessing until the very end!

Very good, creative and surprising twists and turns in this Brit mystery. One couple in their fifties, another in their twenties get together and drama ensues.

I’m not sure what I can say here without spoiling the plot, so let me just let you know that it’s well written, extremely well thought out, and character development that really brings them all to life.

This has movie written all over it.
Well worth reading. Gotta go, time for me to see what else the author has written.

I love Louise Candlish books, so I was thrilled to be approved for this title and quickly dove in.

Jamie and Clare are seemingly content in their lives together when they meet Melia and Kit, a young, quasi-actor couple who quickly become part of their group. Dinners and drinks and plenty of socializing, Jamie is caught off guard when, on his way to work, he's approached by two detectives with shocking news. Kit is missing, and according to an anonymous passenger, he was the last one to see him alive. What follows is a twisty suspense where everyone is hiding secrets and nothing is as it seems.

I was torn about this book and had to sit on my review for a few days. The first half of the book was a tad slow and cumbersome. Candlish takes her time building characters and motivations, and while she was successful in that respect, the propulsion was missing at times. Large sections were devoted to the mundane monotony of the commute and the burgeoning relationships. It's necessary to set up the intrigue for later, but I think readers who are expecting a jump-out-of-your-seat suspense might need to brace for a slow-burn.

I loved the twists, and once the mystery picks up, it's a fast read. The characters were despicable in their own ways, and I wouldn't say I particularly liked any of them. Not that it's a necessity, but with the investment you have in the first half, I wanted to root for one of them and found myself...not. Was I curious how the story would play out? Yes. Absolutely.

But the most interesting parts were glossed over, told in past tense or generalized passive memories. I would've loved to see a little more of that and a little less of the commute to start. If you're a fan of character heavy storylines and unreliable narrators, this might be the book for you, but the pacing missed the mark for me.

Overall, The Other Passenger was an interesting suspense with a motley crew of untrustworthy characters who will definitely leave you guessing until the very last page.

Kit and Jamie travel to Central London via river and as they are on the same schedule, they eventually strike up a friendship. Jamie's partner Clare and Kit's partner Melia get together for dinner and it soon becomes obvious that the younger couple Kit and Melia are jealous of the older Jamie and Clare who have worked hard and live a near perfect lifestyle. Then one morning Kit does not show up for the commute and that evening, Jamie learns that Melia has reported Kit missing and he is questioned by the police. Another passenger has seen Jamie and Kit arguing on the riverboat that previous evening.
There are twists and just when you think you have it solved, another turn takes you in a new direction.
I could not fully connect with the characters and found some of the chapters passive and drawn out. Not a book for me, but still a fairly interesting mystery.
I thank the publisher, author and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Louise Candlish does it again. I love everything that she writes. She knows how to always through a twist in everything and The Other Passenger is no exception. I loved this quick read that had me sitting on the edge of my chair the entire time that I was reading.

Thank you for the opportunity to preview The Other Passenger by Louise Candish. I was looking for a book that was out of the ordinary and one i could not put down. Well I found it. This is deliciously addictive. When a middle aged couple meet a younger couple, they feel like they have found new friends. This couple is fun, daring, and attracitive - Introduce Kit and Melia. They live week to week, do a line or two on the weekend, and are carefree and exciting to be around for Jamie and Clare, the middle-aged couple.
But soon, they dynamics of the relationship begin to change - Melia tells Jamie she is attracted to him and soon an affair begins.
But things are complicated - Jamie works at a coffee shop - he used to have a good job, but now he is content to fill cups of hot java - Clare is the breadwinner, she's in real estate. Melia works with Clare and Kit works in Finance but they spend their money quicker than they make it. Jamie likes being an underachiever, he lives off Clare's family fortune, and is taken immediately by Melia.
Jamie can't believe this young beautiful woman could possibly be intersted in him - she's beautiful - Jamie's is smitten immediately and so a torrid affair begins. But things start to unravel because Melia has plans and it's these plans that set in motion a series of events that change the lives of these four people forever.
This book is written in first person - Jamie tells the story. This is well written and engrossing - and I didn't see the ending coming. Again, i was looking for a good book and instead I found a great book.
5 stars. RECOMMEND.

The Other Passenger starts strong, gets bogged down in the middle, drags a bit then comes back and finishes strong.

Most of the characters were unlikeable and a bit one-dimensional which made it difficult to really root for anyone, but the plot was twisty and imaginative.

I wouldn’t say this book fell flat, but I wouldn’t say I loved it either. I will definitely look forward to reading more by this author in the future. I rate it 3.5 stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This will be in stores in the US on July 20, and you’re going to want to grab your own copy.

The Other Passenger was received gratefully from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The story is told from the viewpoint of Jamie, a 48-year old man from London who seems to be going through a bit of a midlife crisis. He lost his white collar job some time ago and is now working as a barista while his girlfriend Clare earns much more, plus comes from a wealthy family. They go out with a young couple from Clare’s agency and are soon swept up in the other couple’s carefree and hedonistic lifestyle. The couples grow close until one member goes missing, and secrets begin to be exposed.

I enjoyed this book for the most part. The writing was very well done, especially the flashback chapters in which Jamie was recounting his friendship with Kit to the officers. The characters were unlikable on the whole, but that did not deter from my enjoyment. There were multiple twists and surprises which caught me off guard. However the end of the no el dragged a little too much for me. I felt as though there were several false endings before the true ending.

Overall, a really good thriller that I would recommend.

Wow, we can officially put Louise Candlish on the list of amazing mystery writers if we haven’t already! I loved this book from the beginning. The unique characters, an older couple who meets a beautiful younger couple, who become toxic friends. I was really sad for the story to end but loved the twists and turns.

WOW, twist after twist after twist!
The first twist I never saw coming, but that did make me think, hmmmm, I bet there will be more and more twists. Oh, was I correct!
It is just after Christmas 2019 and Kit is missing. Kit is Melia's husband, Jamie and Clare's friend. Well they have been "friends" for just under a year and I am not sure friend is the word I would use for their relationship;. On the way to work, just after Christmas, but before the new year, Jamie is visited by the police because Kit is missing and he was the last person to see Kit. Or as he? The web that these character weave is deceitful and very tangled. Multi leveled and gets more entangled as the story progresses. If you like thrillers with twists and surprises, you will definitely love this book! I am giving this a 4 star review and would like to thank NG, the publisher, and the author for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review!

If you’re a Lisa Jewell fan you’ll love this one!

To be honest, I didn’t like many of the characters. I REALLY didn’t like Melia and Kit. Throughout the story I always felt like there was just something off about them, everyone really (which makes for great suspense, right?!) The first half was a bit slow (probably because I couldn’t stand Me and Kit) but you’ll speed through the second half! Great rainy day read!

You will LOVE the ending!! I am 100% satisfied!!

Twisty! This book definitely takes you on a journey and has you second guessing everything. I kept rooting for different characters and then changing my loyalty. For those that read a lot of thrillers you may see where things are headed, but you will not be correct.
