Everything changes for Eloise and her three children when she receives the deed to a bookshop. Each character must evaluate their own needs and life and those of their family members whether it be sibling or significant others. A great beach read with tons of love and sand.
Eloise is recently divorced and is close to losing her beachfront home that she cherishes. While trying to figure out what to do she finds out she has inherited a bookshop from her grandmother. With the help of her children she is trying to make a fresh start. Loved the family relationships in this novel!
A bit humdrum and drags in places, but it's a nice small-town, beach-side story about family and the relationships between them
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A great women's fiction drama novel. Great weekend read. Cover is beautiful.
Eloise is going through a divorce and needs money quickly. How fortuitous that her grandmother leaves her the deed to a run down bookstore so she can start afresh. A great story with warm characters.
I am always a fan of books about family, love, courage and second chances! I felt like I was visiting Aster Island, off the coast of New England....I was swept away!
Eloise is a recently divorced , mother of grown children , who is deciding what to do with her new life.!
You wont be disappointed with this book!
This is the 1st book in a four book series, An Aster Island series. Eloise is divorced and about to lose her family's home if she doesn't come up with some quick cash. She had to take out a loan to buy her ex-husband's share of the house. Now suddenly she is the owner of her grandmother's book store in a run down building smack dab in the middle of the business district on Aster Island. Her three grown children encourage her to open the shop and try to keep the house. I think the next three books will be about her family coming back to the island. There is also a love interest for Eloise. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
The Bookshop at Peony Harbor by Rosie Summers
Book #1: Aster Island Series
Source: NetGalley, Summer Reads, and Purchase
Rating: 4/5 stars
The Bottom Line: It will be a cold day in Hell before I bypass a book set in a bookstore 😊 The Bookshop at Peony Harbor is a special sort of place given the fact it comes to Eloise from her long-deceased grandmother at just the right moment in Eloise’s life. With her three grown children home to help her navigate this great surprise in her life, Eloise decides to make a go of the bookshop. Eloise has her hands full with the remodel and renovations of the bookshop, but her hands aren’t so full that she can’t see the troubles of each of her children. As the family comes together to help Eloise, each child must also make some hard decisions about their own lives. I truly enjoyed this first in a series book and see so much potential for the series. With the bookshop and the small family cottage as a backdrop for the continuation of the series I am looking forward to moving forward. Thankfully, I stumbled upon this book at a time when there are already at least two more book available. YAY for me and my love sweet stories in idyllic settings and family sagas.

This is the first book by Rosie Summers that I have read. I really enjoyed The Bookshop on Peony Harbor. It is a well written, light, summer-y read... perfect for the beach! The main story involves Eloise, who is a recently divorced grandmother in financial troubles. This book follows her as she opens her heart once again and embarks on a new career path as a bookshop owner. This is the story of family, romance, courage, and new beginnings. The Aster Island setting adds to the appeal of this book and makes a ideal backdrop for the story. In the end, this all adds up to create a wonderful summer read! I look forward to reading more of the Aster Island novels.
This book just wasn't really my cup of tea. It wasn't bad but I just connecting with this book. So sad. 2.5 stars
This is a first book for me with this author. It was just not a book that caught my interest and held it. I finished it only because I received as an ARC in exchange for honest review. I honestly don't be searching for more books by this author.
This is a charming story set in Peony Harbor. It is about Eloise who after a divorce is left broke. All of a sudden she gets a letter from her grandmother, who based away 20 years before, gives her a bookstore. Eloise and her kids ser out to find who sent her the letter and why 20 years after her death. The setting and the character's are believable and loveable.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This was a great story about second chances with great characters and a place you want to visit for real.
New author for me and what a great read. I couldn't put the book down. Looking forward to more of her books
The Bookshop at Peony Harbor by Rosie Summers is a charming family tale. Eloise Paisley has been divorced two years and she is just beginning to find joy again. She is fortunate to have bought out her ex-husband’s share of Paisley House that has been in her family for three generations. Unfortunately, Eloise had to take out a loan in order to accomplish the task. Work is scarce on Aster Island which has Eloise facing financial difficulties. I thought The Bookshop at Peony Harbor was well-written with steady pacing. I liked the characters in this store especially Penny, Eloise’s granddaughter. She was a charmer. It is sweet that close relationship Eloise had with her three children. She has three grown children who have come home for Penny’s fourth birthday. Each child has a problem of their own that is addressed in the story. Eloise has not dated since her divorce. Then Eloise meets Luke who is visiting Aster Island. They get along from the very beginning plus Eloise feels a spark of attraction. I enjoyed watching Eloise and Luke get to know each other. The relationship progressed slowly which I appreciated. It was sweet and old fashioned. I enjoyed the descriptions of Aster Island, the shops, the beach, and Paisley House. I could picture it all from the lovely word imagery. The Bookshop at Peony Harbor is a great escape novel. I love a book that captures my attention and holds it. I am looking forward to reading the next An Aster Island Novel.
A good book. A quick, easy read that held my interest. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Super novel, super read , great characters and I will be reading this again in the not to distant future.. You can sort of guess the end but what is in between the start to finish makes for a really lovely story. Summery read and given 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
Unfortunately I didn't download the book before the archive date.
Hopefully I will get to read one of her books soon.
*My rating is more of a 2.5 but I rounded up*
Frankly, I was pretty bored reading this book. So much so that I really don’t have much to say in this review. Sure, it was a cute story. Cute family. Cute island. Cute bookshop. But there wasn’t much to it.
The relationships were all a little dull to me. Not bad just not really worth remembering. And a lot of conversations between the characters were very repetitive.
The only slightly interesting plotpoint was the mysteriously gifted bookshop to the main character, Eloise, through a letter from her late grandmother. But even that fell short because the “mystery” aspect was never solved. And I feel like the ending could have been more satisfying. Maybe a flash forward into the future when the bookshop opened?
I really wanted to like this story because it had a charming quality to it, but it just didn’t do it for me.
The Bookshop at Peony Harbor is a book to keep reading as long as you can! It's filled with lovely romance and the warmth of family.
