I so enjoyed this story of family, courage and second chances. This is the perfect enjoyable pandemic read that sweeps you away . Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own. The charcters are richly drawn, the setting is perfection and the community is somewhere we all wish we would live of kindness and neighbors helping neighbors.
The author beautifully portrays Aster Island, a island off the coast of New England for the reader to experience the beauty and fresh sea air.
Eloise Paisley is a woman of her early fifties who lives in the beachfront cottage that’s been in her family for over three generations. Eloise has raised her family in the cottage and hopes to live out her life here. When her husband leaves her she is worried she may lose the cottage she loves. A letter arrives just in time from her grandmother who passed away decades ago. She sent her the deed to a run down bookstore in town. Eloise begins to plan to revitalize the bookstore to save her beloved cottage. She has the help of friends in the community and her children as they traverse their own life challenges. A novel of joy, friendship, family and community that is heartwarming and sweet to conclusion.
Enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It may be that the ending is predictable but there are twists and turns that keep you involved with the characters and the ploy. Set in an interesting area and enough about it to involve you in the life of the main character and her future.
This book’s description (and gorgeous cover!) is what initially drew me in. Family drama with a bit of mystery sprinkled in is exactly the type of book I love to read.
First off, I love that we have a character over the age of 30 who has a romantic storyline (though it’s not the main focus). It’s so rare to find and I love to see books that highlight characters finding love at all ages and stages of life. I am happy to read a story that shows a woman discovering herself and giving hope that no matter your age, you can fall in love with yourself and improve your life. I enjoyed the family dynamics and complexities of their relationships. However, the story fell a bit short for me. I had a hard time keeping interest at times, though that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t read the author again.
Thank you to Net Galley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I just adored this sweet story. It was a short, quick read but man, was it lovely. Full of all the things I love in a book: a wonderful family dynamic, a charming small town, an inherited bookstore! This book has it all! I do wish it was a little longer, although there are more books planned for Peony Harbor soon, and I can’t wait to return!
The Bookshop at Peony Harbor by Rosie Summers is An Aster Island Novel, and a very enjoyable read. Eloise Paisley husband left her for another women and took their money with him. Eloise has to figure out how to save the beachfront cottage that has been in her family for three generations. I really enjoyed this sweet story about family and love, perfect for a reality escape. I will be reading more books by this author. I highly recommend this book, you won't be disappointed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I was drawn into this book by its title as I assumed the plot would be centered around The Bookshop. Unfortunately, the bookshop in which Eloise has been recently deeded needs a lot of work and although there were sprinklings here and there of her ideas of transforming the bookshop, I felt let down. I believe this Aster Island series are the first works by this author and it shows in this book. There were a few story lines developing in the book but they never quite pulled me in the way I wanted them to. Eloise is only a year older than I am - she is 52 and a grandma - but I felt more like she was in her 60's. I will probably read the next book in the series as it was a light read and I did enjoy the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley for supplying me with an advanced copy. My opinions are my own.
This was a really delightful book, following the lives of four characters, who have their individual flaws, but that is why we love them! The setting and scenery within this book was absolute stunning and I wouldn't mind a trip to Peony Harbor, if I do say so myself. I couldn't have adored this story more and would highly recommend!
Eloise is trying to figure out how to make more money as she is on the verge of losing her family beach house that has been in her family for generations. She receives a letter from her long deceased grandmother containing a deed to a run down bookshop on main st. Is this just what she needs to save her family home?
Romance should not just be for the twenty/thirty-somethings. I want characters of all ages and backgrounds. Everyone deserves their own romance story and that's what this book is about. It's about a mature woman in her fifties discovering herself. Yes, there is romance but the main theme is discovering oneself. Eloise is a woman who for most of her life has defined herself as a wife and mother. Divorced with her children now grown adults its time for her to focus on herself.
I loved how the lives of her children were intertwined with the story with their own romantic entanglements going on in the background. I'm sure they will have their own stories at some stage,
If you're looking for a relatable sweet and engaging book then this is one for you. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on Aster Island and look forward to returning.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a delightful book. The Bookshop on Peony Harbor is about second chances. The story follows Eloise Banks and her three grown children on the island they all grew up on. Eloise is newly divorced and struggling to stay afloat financially, while her three grown children are all approaching their own crossroads. Eloise unexpectedly receives a letter from her grandmother, who has been dead for twenty years. In the letter, her grandmother has gifted her a dilapidated old bookstore on the island. Eloise must decide if it's worth putting her meager savings into refurbishing the bookstore or putting the money towards keeping the cottage that has been in her family for generations. The character development is very strong. All of the characters are flawed in their own way, but that is what makes you love them. This book has a little bit of mystery, romance, family love, and a whole lot of charm. I really want to go to Peony Harbor and meet everyone there. It seems like the loveliest place to be. Rosie Summers is a beautiful writer and I look forward to continuing this series.
Thanks to NetGalley for a arc copy for a honest review.

The bookshop at Peony Island by Rosie Summer
Eloise is at a crossroads in her life, 52 divorced, stay at home, mom and grandmother living in a beach front house that has been owned by generations of women in her family. She is starting to struggle a little when she receives a letter and her life will start to change in a lot of ways.
A beautifully written book that gives warmth and the characters are very real. It gently eases you into the story.
A little mystery with a lot of warmth and character and how we cope with life and second chances.
It is a beautiful gentle read.
I look forward to going back to Peony Harbour.
This is my first 'trip' to Aster Island, and it won’t be my last. This book is the 2nd of Rosie Summer's Aster Island stories, but you didn’t have to read the first to enjoy this one.
Aster Island is a small New England island, where as you read, you feel as if you are there! Eloise Paisley is a recently divorced , mother of grown children , who is deciding what to do with her new life. She receives an old letter from her grandmother, who has been deceased for 20 years. Who sent her this letter and what surprises does it hold for her? This story is full of mystery, romance and friendship. The mystery also includes a bookstore, and who doesn’t love that? I’m looking forward to reading the first and future books in this series.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an advanced read of this novel.
I liked Eloise and her cottage. The dialogue was okay. I liked the descriptions. I loved the name Eloise paisley. I liked luke. Good quick pace
This has been exactly what I needed to get me out of my reading funk!
This was a cute. Small town story with a punch! And I enjoyed every second of it!
I found this book very difficult to read-the story line had great potential, however the lack of character development and attention to detail made it hard to finish.
I absolutely enjoyed this beautifully written book. We are all visiting Aster Island, off the coast of New England. In this slower-paced story of family, love, a community, and its local charm. The author’s writing has included us as a neighbor, not a reader. The slow build of romance is a little old fashioned but what this story needed. The natural progression of the character development was perfect.
Eloise and her family are dealing with everyday things, but they still make time for each other. Her kids leave busy lives yet always find a way home to the island. Eloise’s children's unconditional support for her when a mysterious letter arrives. Is this the new beginning she needs? However, it takes a conversation with a stranger to point it out to her. We get second chances, a little mystery, lots of coffee and treats, plus plenty of scenery in the beach community of Peony Harbor.
I will patiently wait to return to the island and see what develops on our next visit.
Thank you to NetGalley and Summer Reads for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
