A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant is a beautiful second chance at love romance and it's definitely one of my favorites from the author.

I Really Really Loved it and Cannot Recommend it enough to all readers.

A bit too much drama-porn in the heroine's woes, and the couple itself just never felt like they 'gelled' throughout - it was a hard read to get behind as a result, with too much focus on the seedier side of the subplot and not enough on the romance itself, let alone the protagonists as people falling in love and/or reuniting

Taryn and Jace were completely in love with each other. He even planned on proposing, but then she was just gone. Jace never really moved on. He could just never understand why her and her family just moved overnight without telling anyone. It never set right with him.

For her, it was all about saving her family. Her father and brother owed some very bad people and they came to collect. Basically imprisoned and forced to work off their debt in order to protect her family. Let's just say things definitely did not work out the way she had planned.

A Cowboy Kind of Love has undercover agents, double crossing people you never would have considered, and a tight knit friend group that would do anything for one of their own. And they do exactly that.

When I looked back at my highlights I noticed that I only had one. Nothing jumped off the pages at me or kept me fully interested. As a matter of fact I started this book a year ago, and recently picked it up again starting where I had left off and after a few pages remembered everything that had previously happened. Overall, it was just kind of bland compared to the previous books in the Heart of Texas series.

Cowboy romances are always a winner for me. Sometimes, I feel like screaming at the pages for people to just communicate already, but other than that, I liked this one!

Donna Grant writes a mean cowboy story. I fall in love with her writing every time I read a new one. I adore that this can be read as a standalone. I also love the military aspect mixed into the story.

When I requested 🎧︎A Cowboy Kind of Love for, I did not know it was the sixth novel in the Heart of Texas series. Fortunately, it works well as a standalone. However, now that I have been introduced to this world, and its characters, I have an intense need to read the previous books in the series. In this installment, readers are treated to a second chance romance filled with suspense and passion.

🎧︎A Cowboy Kind of Love is Jace Wilder and Taryn Hillman’s story. At the start of the story, Jace is struggling with a broken heart. The love of his life left town without saying goodbye, and he had no means of contacting her. Since then, he’s been drinking himself into oblivion, trying to numb the pain. The situation worsened whenever an anniversary of an event in their relationship came around. At the point when he recognizes he needs to take control of his life and move on, Taryn returns. The explanation she provides for her sudden disappearance has Jace scrambling to help her.

Taryn left with her family five years ago for an unknown location in the middle of the night. She returned to Clearview, Texas, seeking help to escape her hellish life of the past five years. She didn’t intend for Jace to get involved, but circumstances caused her to seek his help to escape the hellish situation, which will place them and their friends in danger.

Tarryn’s heart was in the right place regarding her family. Loyal to a fault where they are concerned, but her blind loyalty placed her in a precarious position. Even when things stared her in the face, she held on, hoping for a change for the better.

The chemistry between Jace and Tarryn sizzled and popped. They made a great team. Their romance felt authentic. Despite the years apart, they easily picked up from where they left off. Their feelings for each other never faded. Although it surprised me that Jace never once questioned the veracity of Tarryn’s story concerning the reason for her disappearance.

I loved the bonds of friendship portrayed in the story. Jace friends never hesitated to offer their help to Tarryn, despite the danger involved. This fast-paced and engaging story kept me on my toes. The story delivered lots of suspense and jaw dropping twists. One of those twists shocked me beyond belief.

Rebecca Estrella did a great job in narrating 🎧︎A Cowboy Kind of Love. The story features a vast array of characters and she handled them well. I loved her male and female voices and how well her tone captured the scenes, especially the emotional ones. This is my first time listening to her and I would definitely listen to her again.

🎧︎A Cowboy Kind of Love was a satisfying  read. Its a story that takes the reader on a journey of suspense and a second chance love story. Perfect for fans of cowboy romance.

Second chances are the best. Taryn left in the middle of the night and has been gone for 5 years, Jace just cannot forget her and the love they had. He is shocked when he sees her in town one day and follows her to get some answers. So much action, tension, suspense, drama, and of course romance. I highly recommend this book and the series.

Holy cow! After a slow start, I wasn’t sure where the story was going to go, but how it played out blew me away! Jace and Taryn got their second chance with some amazing suspense all the way through.

I received this arc for an honest review.

Jace has spent the five years wondering why the love of his life just up and left without any word. As he thinks he is getting over and maybe just maybe he can move on he thinks he spots Taryn, first he thinks he is dreaming but he is not. When he should be angry he is not. He is happy she is back and just wants to be with her and them together. The problem she still has is something from five years ago. He does not care about that and will do anything to protect her just so they can be together. A very heartfelt story at times and has very good characters.

A Cowboy Kind of Love (Heart of Texas #6). By Donna Grant. 2021. St. Martin’s Press (ARC eBook).

A Cowboy Kind of Love is entertaining and has some good action. The romance was sweet but took the backseat since Jace and Taryn already have history and a more pressing matter takes the forefront. It’s the first book of this series I’ve read and I can’t say I was on board for the plot twist, but overall, I would be interested in reading more of the series.

This is a Romance Suspense, and this is the 6st book in the Heart of Texas series. I hate that this series is said to be a romance book because they are not. It is more suspense then romance, and this book is not a cute romance book by any means. There is some hot and steamy moments in this book. The characters in this book is great, and this book is very well-written. There is a big twist at the end, and I have to say I really did not see it coming. If you like a lot of action and suspense with a little romance then this is the book for you. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (St. Martin's Press) or author (Donna Grant) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE - Donna Grant

#6 in the Heart of Texas western romance series

SECOND CHANCES - 3.5 stars

Plot - 4 stars - After being kidnapped 5 years ago and forced to run drugs to protect her family, Taryn has returned to her home town, supposedly to collect some money that her drug lord boss wants. Instead she contacts her former lover, Jace, and asks for his help. Of course, he and his friends are more than willing to help free her.

Writing - 4 stars - Grant is able to create a warm and loving romance while also writing a side story that captures and keeps my interest. In this case there are plenty of exciting moments involving drugs and a powerful drug lord, but there are also sweet and loving moments between Jace and Taryn as well.

Characters - 3.5 stars - I've always liked Jace, but in his feature story I felt that he was a little too much the tragic hero. Yes, he's always loved Taryn, but his moping around for 5 years waiting for her seemed a little far-fetched. Taryn is a strong heroine, but even her "help-someone-else-before-myself" attitude went a little too far, I thought. A little less drama for both of them would have worked better.

Title - 3.5 stars - I guess a cowboy sort of love is one that lasts forever. At least that's what this title implies.

Cover - 3.5 stars - This sets up the western theme, but otherwise, there's not a lot of character with this cover.

Overall - 3.5 stars - This book kept my interest throughout. There were some very exciting moments, with lots of action scenes connected to the drug issue that was the basis for the criminal activities under investigation and keeping Taryn prisoner. In this book, however, I didn't feel the romance as much as usual. I think it was because Taryn is a shadowy figure from Jace's past, and we don't really get to know her all that well before she is intimately involved with Jace. There's no build-up to their relationship since it is basically a second-chance romance; it's just that we weren't really involved in their first romance. But the action scenes with all of the heroes of past stories more than made up for any lack of romance.

A Cowboy Kind of Love
Heart of Texas #6
Donna Grant
St. Martin’s Press, Apr 2021
281 Pages
Western Thriller Romance
Provided by Pub’s Rep via NetGalley
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The cover works for me. A ranch, a big blue sky, and a cowboy in a stetson. It’s nothing exciting, but it does the job.

This is the last in a series called Heart of Texas. The group of men who are all in legal or military groups and friends who live in this relatively small area one by one get their women.

This is what I wrote on Good Reads when I read it the first time in May when I gave it a 5 star rating.

“Donna Grant has done it again! Taryn disappeared without more than a brief text 5 years ago and Jace has spent those years missing her and falling apart. His buddies have tried to keep him together and sober for the most part, but he’s coming to a breaking point. Now Taryn’s back and she needs help, but she has to explain where she and her family disappeared to 5 years ago before some of the guys will put themselves out there. With half a million bucks on the line, that seems reasonable. Taryn doesn’t want to tell them who because he’s the worst of the bad guys, but he’s still got her little sister and she only has until midnight tomorrow to get back with the money.

A bit of suspense, a bit of love, and some action, too. Find out who the undercover agent is and who the older nurse is who helps Taryn. Recommended.”

I still give it 5 stars after reading it again. This is one of those romance thrillers where the romance side really balances out the thriller side very well. And it’s because while the action is all about the hostage sort of situation with Taryn’s younger sister, the steamy love affair between Taryn and Jace is so intense right from the first glance that it stands up to all that other stuff. You never once forget that this is a romance. They have memories of the beginning of their relationship and they have a few quiet moments as well as some steamy sex. What they want most is just to be together again for the rest of their lives with everyone they love safe. There is a nasty twist towards the end of the book that makes part of that happy ending a bit sad, but for the most part, they do get their HEA. This is a great ending to a really good series. Recommended-book & series.
