Fast paced, exciting with just a touch of steam make the perfect combination page turner. This series is fantastic Donna.
I have enjoyed all the stories in the Heart of Texas series that I have read; this one is no exception. This is Jace and Taryn's story and of course there are dire circumstances that require all the "boys" and their significant others to rally together and help. I found this story just as intense/edge of my seat/nail biting; as pervious ones where one or both of the main characters are in some kind of trouble.
Taryn disappeared years ago with just a short-text to Jace saying it was over and then there was no trace of her or her family. Jace doesn't know how to get over Taryn and move-on as they all say. His buddy drags him home from the bar where he drank himself into oblivion in the hopes that he would stop thinking about Taryn and all the might have beens had she not left. What Jace finds is his door unlocked and a shadow in his kitchen that he believes to be Taryn. Then he figures that it's all just a figment of his drunken imagination.
Taryn's in deep trouble and at a loss as to how to get out of it. Wherever she turns no one is willing to help her. So, as a last resort, she goes to the one person that she knows would help her, no matter what: Jace Wilder. Although, she really doesn't want to drag him into her deadly predicament; it's all to get her and her sister away from the person holding them; alive.
This is a well written story with great characters both good and bad. The story flows well and kept me reading to see what would happen next. There are some sex scenes in the book and it has drug dealers/lords, murders, law enforcement officers/agents, and intrigue. A very enjoyable, quick read.
A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant is the next novel in her Heart of Texas Series. Jace Wilder is the next bachelor cowboy to be searching for his long lost love in this series and when he thinks he sees her in his house one night, he's pretty sure it was the alcohol that made her appear and that she wasn't really there. But was she?
In the meantime, Taryn had returned to her hometown, where her one true love lived, hoping to find help to save herself and her sister. They had gotten involved in a notorious drug ring and she was given on last assignment after which she was told she and her sister could walk away and have their lives back. But was that really going to happen? When Jace finds out that Taryn really was not an illusion and pulls out all stops to help her, but she's in much deeper than he could have ever imagined so he enlists the help of all of his friends to bring down the syndicate that she's been enslaved by...but will they be successful?
A novel that has you sitting on the edge of your seat until the end! Thank you to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Taryn left in the middle of the night with no explanation to Jace. 5 yrs later she comes back ready to fight to free her sister and herself and the only person that could help was her love Jace. Once Jace heard everything things were planned but as always there were things that was discovered.
I have really enjoyed this series and this book fit right in. It was nice to see Jace get his story. And also it was good to see him on the receiving end of the help that was needed, like all the others. Family isn't always blood and Jace discovers that. Of course he learned that the hard way. But it's all good now.
This is the sixth book in the Heart of Texas series and I think it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. Having read the other books in this series, I was interested in Jace's story but it certainly wasn't necessary to enjoy this one. While all of Jace's friends have recently found love, he has made no move to find love again. After all he found his perfect match and she disappeared without a trace. He can't move on from his love without answers, answers only she can give, which leaves Jace alone and miserable. However, when Taryn returns and explains why she left, Jace will stop at nothing to help her. This was a rather fast paced story with plenty of romance, suspense and a twist I didn't see coming. All in all an enjoyable story and I'm looking forward to see if there are at least two more books in this series.
The latest offering in Donna Grant's Heart of Texas series is fast-paced and gripping. The loyalty of the friendships in 'A Cowboy Kind of Love' is a hallmark for me. The subject of human trafficking was made real and the tension in the book was unrelenting. The ending was a complete surprise. I can't give it my highest score because of the need to skip over the graphic sex. Once again, I think that it is completely unnecessary to the terrific story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I am really enjoying the Heart of Texas series. This book focuses on Jace & his ex, Taryn. Jace is struggling with the memory of his ex & can't move on. He still doesn't understand why she left town abruptly & never contacted him again. Taryn is being held as a slave to a drug lord trying to pay off family debts. That was why she had to leave town before ( she & her family were taken at gunpoint). Taryn shows up back in town & comes to Jace as a last resort for help. As much as she doesn't want to involve him & his friends, she finds she has no other option. This is a fast paced read that I couldn't pu down. Really enjoyed it & highly recommend it.
Thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for advanced copy in exchange for honest review
I think everyone who has read this series has loved Jace - a cowboy, military veteran, who was a prisoner of war and never stops eating. He has definitely been the happy-go-lucky man his friends can depend on - but he also has hidden depths. When his girlfriend Taryn disappeared along with her family he was beyond devastated. Now, as all his friends are settled with women and families that they love - the anniversaries Jace shared with Taryn are getting hard and clearly leading to a binge drinking problem for Jace. When Taryn suddenly reappears and explains the terrible things that have been going on - and how she has basically been kept a prisoner for the last five years - everything changes and puts Jace and all his friends back in the line of fire.
This book definitely will challenge your suspension of disbelief - particularly at the end - but then again they are in Texas and anything can happen there! We also get to see all of the other characters we've come to love in the series. Although this book does have an epilogue and a little more closure than the happy for now endings of the other books - Donna Grant definitely leave the door open for more. There are quite a few other Texas boys that need their own story - and a few new ones introduced in this book. Also - I'm curios about the retired seals that Clayton knows!
Overall - this was a good wrap up for the main characters we've met - I liked the book a lot, but some of the things challenged me.
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
If you enjoy second chance romance then this book will hit the spot. If you want steamy romance then this story has plenty of that. Fancy the idea of hot, ex service guys coming to the rescue ? Yep you get that too ! Although if I'm brutal it doesn't really stand out as a cowboy story but maybe that's because it has more of an urban setting so a lot less of any sort of ranch life. What you definitely get is a couple who never stopped loving each other fighting for love .
There does seem to be a lot of nasty, bad guys in Texas because every book in this series has the characters tripping over new ones ! This book like it's predecessors has hot romance, suspense, action and of course those gorgeous military types who always have each other's backs. If I'm honest I didn't really like the heroine and at times I found it difficult to believe that she was apparently so successful at her 'job' that keeping her working was so important. However I really enjoyed the twist at the end although obviously my lips are sealed. So this is book six and as it ends there are other characters introduced so clearly there are at least two or even three Heart of Texas books still to come so saddle up because there's still riding to do !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
OH MY GOSH, I loved this book!!!! This story was amazing with so many twists that I was getting tangled up in my nerves trying to figure out what was going to happen & hoping that Jace & Taryn & all of Jace’s friends made it out of everything okay. This series has had some fascinating themes & the way author Donna Grant tells the stories keeps you on the edge of your seat. This one definitely had a big surprise in it when we actually find out who’s been pulling the strings on Taryn’s life since the fateful night her entire family is kidnapped. Asking for help from Jace is the best decision Taryn makes as Jace & his friends help her get her freedom back from her captors. This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, even as Jace & Taryn reunited emotionally & physically as their chemistry was burn the pages hot. Definitely recommend. Thank you to the publisher & Net Galley for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.
This should be the last book in the series and I am going to miss the series. We have Jace who has missed his love Taryn and has never gotten over her since she left him years ago. He gets a blast from the past and thinks he is seeing things when he realizes that he is not that it is her and even though she left him high in dry he still loves her and when she explains she was and is still in danger he lets her know he is going to help her, and his friends explain how they will help they have always been there for each other and that will not change. Loved catching up with the gang.
I received this ARC for an honest review. This story is about Jace and Taryn. They were a couple when Tayrn mysteriously disappeared, and Jace couldn’t find her. Five years later, Taryn comes back in town. What happen? Why did she leave? Why didn’t she seek out Jace? Those questions are burning in Jace’s head.
This was an ok story for me. There was one surprise in the story, but everything else was predictable. Don’t get me wrong...it’s was not a bad book just predictable.
It took a bit to get into this story. A lot of dark background. I get why Taryn did what she did. It she's so stubborn and lucky she didn't get others hurt by being noble. She really doesn't believe in keeping promises. I wad shocked Jace just rolls over and forgives and forgets so easily.
Jace has been broken hearted for years. When his girlfriend breaks up with him in a text and leaves town, he does not recover. When she reemerges with a tale of devastation and full of fear, Jace and his very skilled friends work together again to face the danger that threatens Taryn and the entire community.
I have read several of Donna Grant's books in this series, so I was prepared for the hot ex-special-forces cowboys coming to the rescue of someone in a tough place. What I was not prepared for but loved was the intensity of this story! Jace has been torn up for the past 5 years or so since Taryn left town one night with her family and no explanation, just as Jace was going to propose. When she shows up again at his door is when the story takes off. I won't say any more other than I was so drawn in that I had to take several deep breaths when the story was done because I think I was holding my breath a good portion of the time I was reading. Excellent, excellent read!
Jace is a wounded cowboy. Not on the outside but his heart has been broken since Taryn disappeared out of his life. He's tried to move on but no-one seems to be able to crack through his shell. He is seeing her everywhere in their town but then realises that she is actually back! He wants another chance to get right whatever went wrong last time but Taryn may have brought more than herself back to town.
Taryn had no option to flee, her life was in danger and she wasn't going to bring Jace into her mess.
He would have ridden through hell for her and she didn't want him to get hurt. She ran out of options and had to come home. He may be the perfect solution to her problems now. His military career has given him experience and strategies that she could sure use now. But can they just partner up and then part again once the danger is gone or is this cowboy determined to rope this woman forever?
Plenty of twists and turns and a taut storyline. The characters are engaging and charismatic. The love between them still as intense now as it was the first time around, so that should stand them in good stead for their HEA. Completely lost myself in cowboy country!
First off, I really like this author and have read many of her books. Struggled a bit with this one though, and not sure why. Between his flashbacks of being tortured as a POW, and her disappearing with out a trace really hit me, and I found it hard to like her. Gets better of course as it works it way to the end, but my bias stuck from my first impression. Would still recommend, as it most likely is just me, but I like some of her other books better.
There is so much I want to say about this story but can’t because it would all be spoilers. There is intrigue, there is friendship – the kind where friends stand in front of you to take a bullet for you, and there is an enduring love that won’t quit – no matter how many years they have been apart.
A Cowboy Kind of Love is a standalone but we’ve met Jace and his friends in previous books. However, this is truly Jace’s story. Most of the “boys” are former government operatives so we are talking pretty clandestine ops. Taryn is an old girlfriend of Jace’s who has disappeared for five long years. She is living thru the middle of a many-year nightmare of a life.
It will take all Jace has, along with all his friends and their families, to get Taryn out of her life nightmare but it is an amazing story that will take your breath away. Love, love, love Jace! He is perfect for Taryn.
Donna Grant wrote another exciting and satisfying novel. I’m going to read the other five books in this series. Although it seems to be free-standing as it is, I think there are character development issues that were in the earlier books. Hopefully, I’ve learned not to start a series at the end. I can’t resist strong, confident men with special ops training. Not so much strong women who have been beaten into near defeat - until they scratch and claw their way back to strength.
.Jace and Taryn are intensely in love and engaged to be married. One evening, Taryn abruptly disappears leaving just a brief note- nothing else. No further contact. Time passes as Jace tumbles down to self-destruction with his stalwart friends trying to turn him around. Five years pass. Taryn shows up at Jace’s door to borrow 5 million dollars….
Ummm. What the heck? Just trust me, eventually it all gets explained and the action kicks in. Donna Grant wrote another action-packed, romantic mystery. A Cowboy Kind of Love is Book 6 in her Heart of Texas Series. By the way, this is not a book about rodeos, or rustlers, or cowboys. But you can’t judge a book by it’s cover - or it’s title.
I removed one half star from my review for these two things I would like to have seen diffeently.
It took a long time for the two main lovers to meet for the first time in this book. But once you’re past the slow start, the book takes off to the end without much breathing room. I had to stay up late to finish. There are twists, bumps, turns, top retired military personnel, who are tried and true friends who knowingly join in at the risk of their own lives.
Jace and Taryn do get their chance at second chance love.
My thanks to NetGalley for an ARC book exchange for an honest review..
